[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
DrJockitch replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think OEL was good last year. This year the mobility looks awful and he is doing more and more of the matador poke check and indecisive d-zone coverage. ‘Yeah miscast as defensive d-man which brings up the question again, why did we burn assets to get a d-man that represents a worse version of what we had in Quinn when we needed more help at every other position. I guess I know the answer, Benning. Miscast or not though that is the role he has and last year he was okay at it. He even seemed to settle Myers down a bit. This year though I don’t see it. Would really like to go back to the OEL-Bear pairing and put Myers with Burroughs on third pairing. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

I have been pushing Carolina as a fantastic fit for Miller. That team would be scary with him and Patches and their coaching is good enough may be able to fix his defensive game. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Unfortunately that is probably correct. Another year of OEL-Myers is depressing. Just incredible the decline in OEL from last year to this. He is probably a buyout after next year. clock is ticking on Miller and just don’t know if can or will get traded. JR has never been shy but I think other teams see what he is a pure offence player with just atrocious defensive acumen and effort. Really is quite sad the player Brock has morphed into this year. A couple years ago he was winning board battles and was a play driver, this year he looks so slow and so soft and makes JTM’s effort level look good. He was talking about scoring 30-40 before the season, will be surprised if he gets close to 20. Almost $7M for some secondary assists and no defence to speak of. -

Being a fan of this team causes so much internal conflict. Not sure if feel better when win or lose, especially such an ugly error filled win against a mediocre team. ‘Still think JR will move heaven and earth to make some ill advised deals to make a run at the 14-16th OA pick. ‘Coach fired, some more B level young guys for pics. A long-term screw job overall for the fans. Great draft year, little chance to make playoffs this year time to spend capital on Vey level prospects and try to decrease our chance of picking top 5. I don’t get why we fired Benning if we were just going to keep following his plan with a bigger front office. The quality of the on ice product reflected the quality of the front office. We completely rebuilt the front office but doubled down on the sub-par on ice product. It is just nonsensical. -

The only players clubs are moving on that age range are discontents or Linden Vey, Cory Stillman level players. ‘Sometimes around deadline can pry out some good youth but need to have desirable players to do that and most of our vets that would be looking to trade don’t fit that. This is going to be painful for a few years and then maybe the next GM can start a rebuild. -
[Proposal] Time to Start the Rebuild
DrJockitch replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
They traded us Bear because their right side is stacked. -
So you think they further sacrificed salary cap flexibility to aide the future? I don’t think there was lack of effort behind the scenes it is just, and I know this is shocking, teams aren’t lining up to take bad players on bad contracts unless you give them a lot of pics and prospects to do so.

[Discussion] Real cap dumps for?
DrJockitch replied to LTC123's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
So we trade EP to get rid of a bad contract, retain and take back a bad contract. Not seeing this helping to get rid of Myers who has less than 2 years left. there is no calculation that this puts us ahead. What is a contender offering their firsts aren’t very good relative to EP and a short term bad contract. We are doing the essential bit now loosing at an incredible rate in a year with a deep draft. Now adding draft capital would be great but using our best players to sweeten the pot on cap dumps doesn’t get us better. -
I don’t like giving the C to your scoring stars in general but EP is more than that. Best 200 ft player they have. Still there will be enough pressure on EP. Let someone else carry the C. Luke would be interesting as an almost interim captain. Miller just no.

I mean the cap constraints of other teams. No contender is in a place to take on $10M plus in salaries even with some reciprocal cap dumps. -

Cap constraints make almost any of these deals impossible. -
[PROPOSAL] Bo Horvat to Carolina Hurricanes
DrJockitch replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Swap Bo for Miller and I am good with it. I think this is the team we should be looking for Miller trade. If Carolina had Miller and did the TB to bring Patches back for the playoffs they would be very hard to beat. -
No apathy, concerned but still care. ‘Frustrated that we still believe the false narrative that Canadian teams won’t tolerate a rebuild. 20 years ago when the Canucks were bad people didn’t show but not anymore. ‘If you communicate clearly to the fans that we are going to rebuild and give them some high end prospects to look forward too, this market will absolutely support it. Part of being a Canadian market and knowing the game is we can see that this is how the NHL works. You are either working your way up the ladder or jumping off and starting again this team is not working it’s way up the ladder but it is only the fans jumping off because we can see that the only place this team can get to is the middle of the pack. We are rebuilding Oilers style, general managerial incompetence but without lottery luck. We are not going into a clearly planned out and communicated rebuild like Toronto or Montreal who built up pics, used their financial resources to gain assets and dropped to the bottom of the league where you get the high end talent. Yes Toronto pulled the plug on the rebuild too early when they signed Tavares, it was not a perfect rebuild but a lot better plan then ours. ‘I want this team to build to something that can be competitive for a number of years and this team as built isn’t it. ‘Management needs to come out and say this needs a full tear down and this is the best year to do it. This is the best top end of the draft in many years. We have done it so far with general managerial incompetence, let’s shift to a more focused plan that has a goal better than drafting mid round small wingers and calling it a victory.

Historically I am very positive poster but 8 years of Benning mismanagement followed by a year of JR doing his best Benning impression have left my relationship with this team in a dark place especially since we are waisting the career of one of the best players we have ever had in EP and the best D we have ever had in Quinn.
