[Rumour] John Klingberg waiting on Canucks to make a move
IBatch replied to Mikey87's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It's not often a team flips a switch over night and just becomes dominant. It takes time. And for sure part of that is getting to the post season and finding out what those extra 4-28 games feel like. Podz talking about how going to an NHL schedule (Swedes also plus other developmental leagues) is an entirely different thing. It's not easy on most younger bodies. Takes time to develop the man strength and conditioning. Personally also believe that luck now plays a lot a playoff teams fortunes ... a bounce here a bounce there - a hot goalie. Team injuries etc. And that the more reps, the better chance of getting to the goal. Sure the big boys usually win the cup, and you need to be good to be lucky. But a final appearance to me at least, is way more fun then perpetual rebuilding, just to get a McDavid or Mathews ... and well what have they won? -

So what your saying is CAL should trade Myers straight across for Tanev? I'd be cool with them retaining on Myers to make this work. But get that would bug people. -

Don't worry Alf. Both guys will be on the team. It's just media people making sh!t up. And if your naive enough to think GMs tell no lies then you've never played poker before. Not to say anything is possible because it is. As of right now, we have a full roster and it's cap compliant. We can debate whether it's better or worse - looks better to me at least. -

This is a terrible idea IMO at least. I'd rather trade Myers and retain 2 million for Tanev. And i don't like CAL. And would feel bad for Myers. -

He had what - ten more even strength points the Myers? If Allvin picks him up im not going to be impressed. You guys pick on Myers D coverage, can't wait to see what you do once this guy comes in. -

5 x 5 for us take it or leave it. And then look forward to him saying stuff like "this is the team i always wanted to play for"...Myers i'd probably still rather keep him. But it would make it interesting at least. You can't run a D full of wimps. And im sorry if i offended anyone. -

No sh!t. No state taxes. A deal on the table. And now he's going to lose so much money. -

If true what a tragedy. Edit: So far - no takers on Klingberg either. Wonder why? The Jake Gardiner of RHDs... going to tuck his tail and sign somewhere for peanuts, which is my best guess 6.25 x 5. Edit: That made me laugh because it's a ton of dough. I'd probably fight Mike Tyson for about 250k. He's not much older then me. And yes some of that is going to my facial reconstruction. Klingberg is getting less then he hoped for. But someone is going to bite, just hope its not us. -

Sure from the CDC maybe. Ugh. Also from the CDC we turned down Schneider, Chytill and NYR first overall too, plus a first born child just to try and make the playoffs with Miller. -

I thought it was the late 2000's ... but maybe it wasn't. Don't forget OTT. They were a doubly OT game 7 goal away from beating PIT. Wasn't too long ago either. But i do remember it was Smith in net doing his best cujo impression. There is a reason he's still playing, and there also is a reason why EDM did what they did rolling the dice with him. Maybe this year EDM gets Anderson ... he's another goalie - those two remind me a lot of Kirk McLean. Another gear. Edit: And it was all Smith. Remember that too. A hot goalie goes a long way. We've recently seen that with Demko in the bubble too. What happened this year is uber rare .. since the cap era. As in a loaded team mashing up and running over the competition. It's a little scary that they did that without great goaltending. Haven't seen a dominant team like COL since 2002. -

IBatch replied to Mikey87's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not so sure. I know it's a different team then the bubble, but personally i also believe it's a better team, by quite a margin actually. MIN was a top 2-3 defensive team in the league. St. Louis was a good team and we deserved to win. Unless we draw COL the first round i wouldn't bet against us anyways. Some teams are better playoff teams, some are equal and some are worse come the post season. At least almost all these guys got a taste of what to expect. Vegas no longer worries me, CAL is a mess now and EDM probably has the best case to win the division unless they can't even find decent back-ups to play in net. Markstrom won't keep this up forever. And we all know Tanev will get injured (likely both). We can't have it all under the cap, what we do have is actually really decent. I'd even go so far as to say really good. Personally, i haven't seen a forward group as deep as ours since the early 90's. WCE was a one line team. Sedin era was a 4 person forward core that's it. With some good support. If EP all our guys play to their potential, by the end of the season this teams going to go from dark horse to contender. Not saying it's going to happen. But after decades of waiting for a team that bucks up and plays better then they do in the regular season, i'm willing to wait and see before passing judgement. Nobody is going to match COL next year. They will get a little worse though ... and the year after that a lot worse. -

Why that team, is still in ARI is just silly. New arena or not, it's going to be the arshole of the NHL body, until they wise up and move the team somewhere else (hoping the Nords). -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
IBatch replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No they are not. Have to be awfully special. The guys during our peak Sedin years compared to Edler ... he was the only one that cracked the lineup in a way that made a difference... Tanev was a spare part. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
IBatch replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The first paragraph is exactly where he should be with his comps. Zibanejad signed his money deal a little earlier then Miller will, and is absolutely is the best comp. New York, the state, as Jock tax. They don't pay as much as Van, but they are in the same range as the CAli and Alberta teams - high taxes close to the highest range, far away from the mid range, and further away from the lowest range. So adjusting for that to me at least, a little more for Miller per season, and the same term minus years already done by Zib. What you've said is based on signing him before this season though. IF he goes out and has a par or better season then the one he just had, which is entirely possible, if Bruce loads a line up ... then all bets are off and he's on his way somewhere else. If gets a PPG, which is pretty much a given, he's getting 45-50 million like you've just said. I'm not interested in 9 x 7 either. Only way would be 100 points... -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
IBatch replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Maybe Miller won't get traded? Maybe he will get traded. Will say whatever was offered last TDL wasn't enough to move the needle. And they've said they won't make a trade just for a trades sake. Have also said they've got a number in mind to re-sign him as well, and that it's a different number then Millers camp is looking for. Both sides take a risk. One great season...two? Well if he breaks 100 he's going to add another 7-9 million over the duration of his next deal somewhere. One thing that can be safely predicted, is the cap will go up another million next season, and that the owners will be whole sometime in 2023-2024... it's possible the cap will go up more then one million, the year after next. And for sure will go up after that. It should help mitigate some of the raises coming up, but will take a little time to get there. All it really means, is we lose a Garland or Maki etc... Doesn't fix our right side, but there for sure is a path to jam all these guys in as well. Horvat and Miller probably add 3-4 to our cap. Pearson and Garland all of it (plus some raises elsewhere)... Thankfully the contracts are staggered well enough to give Allvin a pretty easy go of it. EP is the guy we need to build around, but every team needs experienced vets, Horvat and Miller? EP will have two cores to work with. -

Absolutely. Keith lol. Enjoy retirement! Sure nice to finally get some retribution. Tyler Minors ... he was a beast for us in the bubble, if he wasn't injured and didn't miss some games, i think Vegas might have had a different outcome. Only Myers, Motte and Demko seemed to be capable against them. Myers was the only guy who could skate the puck out against those big forwards - and made a couple solo rushes trying to tie the game with 7 minutes left in game 7.... Most of his penalties were just because of his height, hard to keep it perfectly clean AND be super physical. Taking Myers out of the lineup, and adding Klingberg? I'm not sure that's a good idea at all. Even at the same cap hit, other then getting a guy who's only a couple years younger. -

IBatch replied to Mikey87's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Right now? Probably a decent project prospect or a 2nd rounder. Team can sign Klingberg if they really want too, and i think he overshot what he believes he's worth. Dallas has no state taxes. If they offered him say 6.5 x 7, that's 7.4ish here. Would we be comfortable with a deal like that? I sure wouldn't be. Something like 6 x 6 would be ok i suppose. In this case we'd be in a position to find a place for Myers before the season starts - but wouldn't be bargaining from a good position either. Believe we'd have to retain. As of right now, everything we have fits under the cap. And have some pretty big doubts we will see much action before the season starts. Maybe Miller. That's a big maybe. And IF Miller is on the opening night roster, very small odds he's getting traded. Owners wouldn't like to lose the playoff revenue, and the fans will be excited about our chances in the post season. And JR's/Allvins primary job is to make the owners money. Best way to do that, is have a team that's in the playoffs all the time. It's also a good way to win a cup these days. St. Louis. And we've seen too many other teams make the finals and the final four lose now, that it's pretty reasonable to say just making the playoffs anything can happen these days. Gone are the days when seasons were predicable, same with and especially more so - the playoffs. -

No kidding. Kind of reminds me when Edler and Tanev were doing it all by themselves and both would getting heavily criticized ... Edler led the league in minus one of those seasons, and of course Tanev struggled to play 50ish games. Myers got better with a better line mate and support from QHs line. Our bottom pairing is unfortunate. Improving one guy on either side will trickle to the rest of the group. We need Tanev back badly. Shows that maybe his injuries were mostly based on overplaying him. CAL fans love him and why wouldn't they? JB biggest error with that group was Tanev. Markstrom did the right thing and some. TT well wingers are easy to get not a huge loss. Choas Giraffe or not, he's our player and we don't need to disrespect him. Personally never had an issue with signing him. If the cap kept going up things would be different, but quite a few teams got saddled with deals they made a year or two before covid. Cap space is king right now, which would make it hard to trade him, but so are RHDs and first line C's. Come this TDL, the market for Myers goes up. Doubt he's going anywhere. In fact their is room for him still on the bottom pairing once this deal is up ... at a cap hit similar to the one Edler signed last year. Or possibly to continue playing with OEL after as well. QHs needs his Tanev, Manson. Not Klingberg, not Girard etc. Myers is mobile for a big guy, and actually is a decent puck mover as well. And can play both special teams. Would like it if he didn't have to play the PK though. -
Lou is an unbelievable hockey guy. When in NJ (probably did it in TO as well, and maybe still does it in NYI), he would have every single NHL player/Teams with a few notes on them, a wall with cards. And move them around. Great way to have some mass on the subject, and keep up with what's going in with his competitors. All 600-700ish of them. Got to wonder what he had under the GMs name - Quin "watch out for Pat!", Burke "Go to Irish pub with Brian!" Keenan "Douche-Bag", Gillis "Player Agent stay away"... JB "Dump Crap option"....

Vasily Podkolzin Interview (Russian sports media outlet Sport-Express)
IBatch replied to Canuck You's topic in Canucks Talk
You bet. To me he's got a very high floor. Already proving he can play in the bottom six. Hustled constantly...and he's got good wheels. He's got a high floor and projects to be a swiss army knife type. Loved that he mentioned he could score 20 with just a little more finish. That should come. Man this forward group is deep right now. -
Patrick Kane? Was also accused of rape. And did a few other things early on in his career that got caboshed rather quickly. But i suppose i just missed the point lol. I'm out of here!
