  1. The Sedins wouldn't of had the careers they did, if the lockout didn't occur and guys like Derian Hatcher, Craig Ludwig died off quickly..,, EP and QHs would have both been drafted in the 3-5th round had the game remained the same. And although this isn't unpopular, I for one, am grateful for it.
  2. Gino was a goon, but fearless. But Antoski was actually a better fighter while here. That MY unpopular opinion .
  3. Great ... And, were you expecting anything else?
  4. Good grief. What is wrong with people!
  5. I added this to the poll...good suggestion! As for those guys that fake it, the refs know who they are ... risky business to embellish, i'm sure they hate it when they see the review later and realize they got played. We've had players do this too... McDiver lol. Gretzky used his "whining" way too much - but if they can get away with things that's what they do. Was it Kesler who was barely touched, and had a delayed reaction that looked like he just got hit by a bus? Or Cooke. Can't re-call. Sure makes it for a fun TV highlight though.
  6. Think management is just going to let JB regime play out organically. That's primarily on how Bruce got them playing, especially down the stretch. We won a couple more games we'd have been in, and were one of the hottest teams the final 25 games .... COL fans were biting their nails after we beat them lol... Our D structure and PK should be better next season. And if every young core guy plays to their abilities and continues to improve ... we will be flirting in that top 8 range league wide ... that's a good team. Sure it's going to change again (season after) ... but this one will be fun to watch, and a playoff sample size to me at least, is the Miller deal paid in full. Plus who knows, maybe he will re-sign at what the teams comfortable with as well. A strong showing in the post season - would go a long ways towards that.
  7. This is true. And i doubt we will see a trade before the season anyways. If i was Rathbone, i'd be practicing like crack right now on playing the right side. And if I was the coach, id also be asking the same of OEL and QHs in the off season. A successful move of one of our key guys to the right side, solves a problem. Rathbone is going to be in the NHL very soon. Hope it's with us, and that he becomes our Samuel Girard. And that makes us need Myers size even more. Our forward additions should make for a better overall D structure. Wait until the right time to snag a RHD.... if we haven't done it, the timing is wrong still.
  8. Actually think they should allow one linesman to make calls behind the play that get missed. And for sure get rid of the extra ref. It gummed up the game, plus you'd get only the best of the best in the business. There was a time you'd know pretty much every vet ref in the game very well, their style, how they called the game etc. Paul Stewart was one of my faves because he just let the guys play. Sure we got burned by all of them at one point (Fraser)... but they had personality too. Now i barely pay any attention ever to who's reffing and don't have any thoughts about "they are out to get us" either, every team feels that way to a certain degree. Our current team the past several seasons is right at, or near the top in power plays for. And in 2011 we got 2 PPs for every one of Bostons but still read/hear about how we got burned lol. No ref, is calling it all, in a final or in a playoff game for that matter. And it's part of the game is so much better the second season.
  9. Interesting concepts. I think making the first round best of five like it used to be is perfectly fine (with the addition of the play-ins), as long as the league goes back to 80 or even 78 games. Don't want the best teams not have to work for the cup as hard as teams did before You'd be happy to know... as for hockey history, save percentages have been done all the way back to i think very early 50's now. And you can see why Plante, Bower, Sawchuk, Hall etc, ranked so high in older folks minds. Imagine, there was guys with career sp over .920 back then too! Drydens rivals Haseks...same i believe. Parent, just his PHI years (most of his career anyways), was very good too. Plus minus im not as sure about.
  10. No worries mikey! I love Garland and feel he's got a chance to become core instead of just great support player. Allvin has options with him in the lineup around Brock too. Sample size was small (just like him har har) but all Garland has done is prove everyone wrong and love his big balls and giant sized chip on his shoulder dating back to when he was snubbed TWICE at the draft table, even though he led the CHL his second go around in points. Every NHL team whiffed on him .. ARI even given where he got drafted and whom they took before him. Like EP he draws a ton of penalties. Watching him live I was blown away at his skating. Guy can play in a phone booth. Our forward group is very very good right now. Feel it's teetering on exploding, and that could happen next season. Garland for sure is part of that.
  11. Alf i love your commitment to trading Miller - it's outstanding! Here's one for you - trade Miller straight across for Tanev and CAL 2023 first ... would you do it! Too bad they are our divisional rival.
  12. Personally believe we could move Myers at this TDL too. Not sure we should either. There is a spot for him on this team as well once his current deal is up. Like Edler, he could sign for half the price and become a safety net if the guys above him (and hopefully we actually have one by then lol) goes down. Myers had played against the best hockey players in the world for us since arriving and done a decent job. This team does need a Tanev badly. Wonder if CAL would trade him to us if Mathew T is on his way out? That team is about to go into rebuild mode. Doing their best OTT impression as in imploding. Normally divisional rivals wouldn't do this sort of thing - but it's for sure something i'd be kicking tires on hard if i was Allvin. Back to Myers. Simply can't see them trading him without someone already in place as in a UFA (please not Klingberg!). Acquiring a RHD via free agency is a very very tough thing. The fact we even got Myers in the first place was a minor miracle, it was him and LHD Jake Gardiner, the goat whipping TO boy, whom were the best D's available his year. Alex P and Hamiltons only come around every blue moon. As in hardly ever. They are treasures really. JB did his best but screwed up with Schmidt ... a lot of D's play both sides ... maybe it's time QHs gives it a shot and we go after another LHD instead. Much easier to do, and won't overpay as much either.
  13. Only thing is, this is such a drastic change, i feel that next year will be a wash. Like Seattle, almost, starting with a new team (yet again!). Our teams already gone through enough change the past 8 years, hasn't it? Cost JB and Green their jobs last season. But agree on paper it looks pretty good. It solves our pool issues. Which i like. But i'm not sure that D is any better really. Pullock vs Myers ... modest at best improvement, but it gives us some certainty anyways. QHs vs Chychrun .. well that's obvious enough we lose there. Klingburger is another anchor like OEL just on the right side but that line could be interesting ... Where is EP though? Ugh. Back to the drawing board for me at least. But maybe your right! A lot of moving parts but thanks for keeping Miller - at least it's not one of those trades lol.
  14. Not if we add another top pairing D even younger then QHs. Sure QHs can switch sides now too. But why bother? We don't have 4 top four guys at the moment. Part of trading Miller idea is also about the cost it's going to take to keep him cap wise. He's still decent at 8.5 for a few years ... decent not great like now. That 3ish plus million is say we lose a Pearson plus a bit (his replacement - cap going up does that... so another Lazar?) . Palatable. But our RWs .. one is going to play their off side as soon as EP moves to center to replace Miller ... boggles the mind a little lol. EP was blazing hot down the stretch because Miller was on his line...both were actually - on pace for over 100 points for Miller, EP 45ish goals and over 90 points last 25 or so games as well. And Horvat was also on pace for close to 40 goals as well. THAT is worth another shot just by itself. It is a tough decision. JR and Allvin have a number in mind and it's not the same as Millers camp. I hope they stick to their guns, because our best chance at a cup is not overpaying for too many guys. Right now OEL is an anchor we can stomach on his own. We went through this with the "stale" Sedin core. Going right back to that ... ugh. Hope not. We need some buy in from the group. Maybe that happens maybe not. Cap going up Millers second year of his next deal mitigates things a bit too. Im not a fan of losing Miller. But even less of a fan losing Miller for nothing ... as long as it's not a stupid trade just for a trades sake that blows up in our faces (like the Kesler deal...). Trading good cap, for bad that is. Edit: There is a chance - and it's slim but a chance anyways, that Rathbone can become our Girard/Sprurgeon type. A small PMD that doesn't hurt you and adds 30 or so points without PP time ... for this to happen QHs or OEL needs to switch sides. So you may be right. I don't want to trade Rathbone without giving him a legit shot first. Edit: I don't think Miller is getting traded at the TDL if we are at or near the top in our division. Which is a real possibility. If we play like we did the final 25 games or so...for 82 games .. it will match the peak Sedin era almost points wise. 110 at least, with modest improvements maybe 115.
  15. I've been saying Byram for Miller for a year now (even when his future was in doubt)... It's a solid move for both clubs. They need to fill the Kadri hole, and if we give them Rathbone too we could even get something else. Retain on Miller if we must.. And agree we probably just hand them another cup. After this year, they enter some cap pain. Sakic knows this.
  16. Guess he got beaten by his Dad? Joking aside, i didn't like WNP back then ... how many times did his bully Dad drop the gloves against Murzyn? Well think once 3 times in one game ... but would tuck his tail and do this when Gino, Antoski, Hunter or Momesso was on the ice. Apple fell a little far from the tree. Kassian. Not exactly a "bruiser" ... shamed his shameful family name. At least Brady is scary like this:
  17. Why so angry? Those are some pretty mean things to say, about a guy who's actually in the NHL. Brent Sopel 2.0 maybe. Without the hair.
  18. How hot? 29 before 8 here, 38 by four o'clock. That's some heat. Also Bourdon... man Edler beat him out, but not by much ... what could have been.
  19. Heffy i can never tell if your actually serious or not, so have a hard time taking anything you say seriously. "Trash this - trash that "... get the poking at other fan bases. Is that what it is? If so what a busteroo. If he was on our team... wonder what we'd actually be saying. People trashed Bieksa for years early on too. On this site. Agree, this position takes a lot of time. So we've found some common ground.
  20. Really. Like i don't know that. Your also missing the point. OJ was so hyped after the WJs his stock rose way past his threshold. The guys who's living is to scout these guys did mess up, but also got it right (the order and OJ wasn't at the top, Cychrun and Sergachev were ahead of OJ)...Sure hockey personalities did really buy into the WJs even more. It's not the first time and won't be the last either ... it's been happening for decades now. That tourney is hyped ... As for Bouchard. How's his career going compared to OJs anyways? Only brought him up to make a point. OJ couldn't even keep up with a guy, just entering the CHL, draft plus one.
  21. Brian Burke was wrong lol. Funny thing ... where did OJ "rank" prior to the WJs? And isn't Brian Burke a lawyer! Not a scout. Button at least, and maybe McKenzie (but not really either) have clout when it comes to picks. Burke didn't want to pick Bure either. And picked Byran Allen 4th overall. To me, you have to start with the ISS as a base line then start going out from there. That's their job a least. OJ was a late first early second rounder prior to the WJs. Guy who can't get close to a PPG on a loaded London team? And also draft plus one was surpassed by RHD Bouchard. Good grief. We can revise this all we want, but it was a bad bad pick at 5. Late first early second? Sure good pick. And even then a failure. Edit. I love Brian Burke. Why do you think that's where he ranked OJ? Didn't see a "Burke list". GMs are heavily involved with their first pick ... that's about it. JB maybe more then some, but this was 100% a miss. And the signs were absolutely there. Gym avoidance for one. "Can't teach hockey smarts" was OJs excuse for not working out. It's on him too.
  22. It was what his peak was considered. If u want i can go back and take pictures of print media. If your not aware of this then that's understandable. How long did he wait to sign? Not long. His UFA year it was Myers vs Gardiner as the top D's available ...one a LHD with a meh pedigree, one a solid RHD buried behind Trouba and Byfuglien. Maybe instead, like go look, we should have traded a young core player for Trouba instead. He got 8 x 8 lol. And well, about the same outcome. Despite being younger. RHDs are a massive commodity in this league. Myers is fine. And yes, 7 x 7 was considered his peak going rate that off season. Yet he signed for 30 instead. Why? His Kelowna link. He's a great teammate and to me at least, the guys that stopped picking on Edler just switched lanes. Ridiculous. Crickets Edlers last two years, a symphony of noise since his 3rd season or so playing with us. Our fan base can be the worst sometimes.
  23. Agreed. On the flip side, a player should honour their contracts ... the team doesn't need to make a trade even if they publicly ask for one. Duchene in COL waited for a year, Sakic had no obligation to trade him, was heavily scrutinized for months prior, but eventually found a partner, and in those circumstances did have the entire league to choose from. JB could have waited Kesler out longer if he choose too as well, maybe the list would have gotten bigger hard to say. I do like it when players pursue a cup and have zero issue with that, it's a little too bad Bieksa, Burrows and Hansen didn't follow suit while their value was sky high still .... but eventually all 3 where fine with moving on. MG backed himself into a corner. knew he needed to rebuild or re-tool ... but had no means to do it, self induced.
  24. Pre-season presser. One word and back to work.
