[Rumour] John Klingberg waiting on Canucks to make a move
IBatch replied to Mikey87's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's probably going back to Dallas. Tail tucked, but also going to say all the right things as well. "Always wanted to finish my career in Dallas". In his head he's going "F U stupid agent for making me think i was worth more and thanks because now i had to take a lot less". Just because he's this years best RHD, doesn't mean anyones going to bite. And for him to make more money here ... he'd have to get paid 16.4% more then in Dallas. He's not coming here. -
[Rumour] John Klingberg waiting on Canucks to make a move

Glad this got kaboshed early, but do understand some of us still have JB Stockholm syndrome (some dates back to the Messier era so we have a lot of trepidation even today about how things can go sideways quick!) .... My guess is Klingberg is just like Gardiner plus plus of a few years ago, was looking for a monster deal, never got one, and settles ... Yes he's Swedish so yeah for us. Unless we sign him to something like 5 x 5 it's not going to be fun for us. And he's not going to like our tax bracket one bit. Think that this thread is showing our anxiety a bit ... and that it's also silly. Didn't brass say on the first page that it's not going to happen? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
IBatch replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Depends if your 5'2. Then yes pretty wide but still tiny. -
Hey guess you must be so proud of yourself! Who cares it's just a hockey site. Maybe - just maybe - just maybe - just maybe - you can be the next one who wants to know what a dash means...lol whoops my bad, next time why don't i use this : or this ; or another comma. But suppose that's lost on some. Go read some Stephen King or Hemmingway, then diagnose that. Full page paragraphs or not, it's all about reading comprehension. That said Yep - you nailed - it, guilty of run on sentences and very very long paragraphs. Good grief never assume anything, that just makes an Ass of U and me. Me. Me ironic. Next time i will try my very best - not to confuse anyone. Thanks for the grammar lesson. And didn't used to need videos - to explain - what they meant.

Well i'd rank them 5/10 ... but QHs ascending a little could bring that up to maybe 5.5 or even 6! . Our D is average ... but expensive for what we get out of it , that's undeniable. Coaching could maybe push it a little further. That said our forward depth and goaltending aren't too shabby. As soon as we trade Miller for a D upgrade ... that goes from a 9 down to a 5 too lol. Yeah for us!

Is the team any closer to having an identity?
IBatch replied to Canuckfanforlife82's topic in Canucks Talk
Hey don't cancel me lol. That's ok. The point is - that just pain sucked. We can all agree with that. It was not defensible though. 250lbs against a fringe guy who'd already answered the bell. A lot of people were culpable, including both coaches. It is what it is. The Wattuzzi was such a fun thing back then (song)....i loved Bertuzzi but the guy was a bully. And that part i wasn't fond of. Edit: If i said the wrong thing about a team you loved growing up then i guess my bad. I grew fond of the WCE team but it still had some stink attached to it that Messier left.... Ohlund was great though ... and Jovo won me over too. It's just a sad part of our history. On the bright side like i said, we got one of the best goalies of that generation in Luongo from it, and it resulted in a lot of winning for us... -

Yes it was and still is a sore spot for a lot of fans - which is why i included it in the fan suffrage index. It was the end of an era. Bright side was the Luongo trade. Bertuzzi was one of the funnest players to watch in his prime ... -

Sure that was a team you loved growing up. Taken without emotion, Bertuzzi was a great power forward for a few years, but also like Moore rarely/ would drop his gloves, ever actually, against anyone his size, or smaller because he wasn't any good at it. Don't agree with the piling on stuff - the person that did this was Bertuzzi. He was no Kevin Stevens, Tochett, Neely or Shanny, Roberts, Corson, Clarke, a long long list of guys who always answered the bell. He also changed after it. To me it was cowardly. Be like a large Dad grabbing some teen from behind and sucker punching him because he beat up their son or something. But wouldn't fight the other kids Dad if he was somewhat close to the same size = Bully. He has ti live with it, and it for sure changed him. Last good season. Canucks would have had a lot of chances to get back at ' Moore . Look what COL did with Draper getting his entire face smashed into a million bits by Claude Lemuiex. Waited almost a year for the revenge. It didn't have to happen the next game .... and if you believe Bertuzzi wasn't at fault for Moores life long issues - your not being realistic. Didn't Moore fight his first shift as well? How many times does he have to fight? 3 times? Absolutely the Bertuzzi thing belongs on the side of the pain fan suffrage index, for me at least, 95% because i was embarrassed and ashamed with how that went down - 5% yeah! We paralyzed a fringe player. WCE team was never going to win with Coutier in net either - worst SP all-time for any goalie, including the barn burning 70-95ish era, of any goalie to play 20 or more playoff games. -
Here are my thoughts. Allvin and JR have found out (and i've been saying this for a year now!) that Miller isn't going to move the needle nearly enough to warrant a trade. And that this team could be at the top of the Pacific come the TDL with Vegas a worse team, CAL a worse team and only EDM staying the same or maybe improving a bit, and LA improving but not a threat really either. JR and Allvin are put in a tricky spot which i think we could all agree on. What do we have? Well we have a first line and two second lines. That's a team strength and believe we are going to use it. Our PK has improved, and the final 25 games of the season we were at or near the top on the PP (plus we draw more penalties then most teams!)....Believe we are also going to use that. And we have a top ten goalie. One of a dozen or so teams in the league that have a horse that can play 65ish games a year. It's the cap era and we will never have it all ever. Something is going to go down to improve our D. So what's next? We trade Miller for Marino! And a month into the season a different thread about how we fix our center depth lol. Exactly what's going to happen - even now i've seen comments about worrying about our 3rd center. Good grief. We've got a top five center team in the entire league as of right now, and it's made a tiny marginal improvement. Sure if we load up the top line then it changes, but then our LW becomes beast mode. I think that it's summer, there is too much anxiety and worrying about the what ifs. And way too much stress about the RHD area. Wonder if JR really is going after Klingberg. That to me hinges on what is going on with Miller right now.

Get that we want to win the cup. Being a Canuck fan takes some constitution if your the type that can't stand not getting what you want. Only Buffalo and Toronto come close to the fan suffrage we've had over the years. Losing two finals in game 7, Maki, Bourdon, Ryp, losing the lottery and a HHOFer as a result to start the franchise, Moore scuttling our best WCE era chance (Cloutier was actually very good that year but people don't remember that) and Bertuzzi doing something absolutely cowardly im sure he regrets to this day...Bure leaving, Messier era ... JB era lol is a cake walk compared to the 80's! At least back then most teams made the playoffs by default though, but nobody could compete with EDM and CAL back then (and will add Otto kicking it in, that Vancouver team had a chance to go all the way as well).....two riots, one somewhat understandable and organic, the second one just pure embarrassment (whiny dissidents, poor losers). If you don't have thick skin, maybe choose a US team that doesn't have state tax to cheer for. With US slowly creeping up and Canada slowly creeping down, at some point there will be more US players then Canadian ones, and it will be tougher and tougher to attract UFAs (it already is - bye bye Johnny despite a better CAL offer ... covid changed things and doubt it's going back - UFAs in Canada ... have to pay extra for them)....it's not going to get easier on this front. "8 long years" lol. Barely scratches the top ten worst franchise moments. And will say i actually haven't been excited about a group of young players since McLean, Linden, Bure, Ronning, Gelinas, and Nedved. Demko, Horvat, BB, QHs, EP, Podz ... What happens next for sure matters, as do playoffs next. Team needs some reps in that regard - and Horvat looks to have a lot of Linden in him from limited sample sizes ... as in ups his performances. EP/QHs we're just fine first time out as well. We shouldn't give up hope. Why not this year for a cup? A couple break outs and we'd be a really really tough team to beat. And maybe Allvin can do a Quin like trade or two. And grow some callouses. This team is one of my favourite pass-times. It's got a very rich history despite never winning a cup too. Best final since expansion (THN voted on this and a clear winner, 1994), just added 3 HHOFers from the best team never to win a cup (also THN reported)...and good chance the only thing we have to look forward to after the regular season isn't the draft for a length of time IF Allvin and Co can do a great job of what's next. Our identity as a fan to me should be more like a survivor movie. Don't like victim culture, let's try our best not to do that! Why not a Rocky movie instead? Maybe fourth times the charm, and just maybe this is our year and nobody even knows it (94 ... nobody knew that either!) All GMs in the league know how close things are and how much luck plays into it as well...Parity. It's razor thin. COL is a total fluke. Of course you have to be good to be lucky, but what Sakic did also came out of nowhere as well. Only God has the foresight he had lol. And well, it turns out sub-par goaltending is enough if the rest is in place. And history has already shown us, that great goaltending and average everything else, has also won multiple cups. So buckle up and grow more callouses without becoming callous, and enjoy the ride! I much prefer our identity to be as a team/ fanbase that doesn't give up. And have accepted that our Swedish link is a competitive advantage. That we need. -

Pretty funny how Pearson became a "tough guy to play against".... right after the coaching change. Personally i don't take as much issue in Green, he gave us the bubble and was a placeholder coach with some promise. And despite what some might think, was a little old school too - but not old school like some dinosaurs that got put out to pasture like Babcock did. To me he was just ok. And go ahead and blare your horns about Bruce - if and when things go south his mana will also be reduced quickly by this fanbase. Fortunately for him I think that management isn't going to rebuild or even re-set the rebuild. -

Your the best! This club has a lot to be excited about as should the fan base. Aside from when have we had this much young talent at one time? Not very often. Let's enjoy the process. Get there will be holes. Even COL just had one in net - neither guy is considered a number one goaltender. So buckle up and enjoy the ride. Let's see what JR/Allvin can do to put the finishing touches on some pretty nice pieces. -

Lazar early in OTT seemed like he was going to have a decent - good NHL career ... it's cool that he's still around, and does have a chance here to do just that. Hope he makes the best of it given year's signed (at a very low risk deal)...His good attitude is infectious.

Maki/Kuzmo > then Lammy Chia ...that's the main upgrade right there.
-
Dude it was a joke. Edit: For clarity - why would we want a 5'2" hollywood actor on our D? I'd have picked Jason Mamoa. And don't have any issues with Tom Cruise. Guys amazing - flying helicopters and F-14's? I'm not sure he's human, but bet he'd have made a great hockey player too if that's what he wanted to do instead.

Good points. We are quickly going to become a team that needs and relies on guys like Hoglander to come in and play for us well for cheap. Same with Klim. And their is absolutely nothing wrong with organizational depth. We need some of these guys to work out to balance cap and some to work out so well that it forces a trade later due to their coming raises, to recycle them to create more. That's what CHI did for years and also why they were so good for a decade. Boston as well (Hamilton, couldn't afford to keep him, CHI well Byfuglien and a long long list of names).
-
Is it unreasonable to say that this is Hoglanders chance to "sink or swim"? Year 3, if you can't kill penalties in the bottom six, or produce at a good clip, what's the purpose other then just a cheap contract? First year got top six minutes 5 x 5 and did well for a rookie, second year was part of the middle six crowd ... This year he will bounce back or he won't. If he gets bumped off the roster or is traded it's not the end of the world (leagues full of Leivo's, Highmore's too) but nobody is hoping he doesn't progress, and don't see how this is thread worthy, other then a dichotomy on how some get too attached to their tweeners/players while others don't, but that doesn't mean we don't like them and root for them either. Edit: Also agree that management hasn't given up on him and why would they? Cheap, and when on effective too. Like Brock, EP and a bunch of other players, the start of the season was tragic, Hogs played injured and did seem to have a tough time fitting in the Bruce blender at the start which at the same time worked for other players. I'm sure brass are hoping both him and Podz and a few others we haven't seen much of or yet (Lockwood, Klim, Kuzmo etc) work out too. This team needs strong support players. And cheaper contracts to even cap out. And even more so in the future which means we could lose some of these guys in the future when they work out too. Look at the lengths we were willing to go for JV (the rope)...the teams fans love their homegrown guys more then others. Hockey Gaud too. Good grief the CDC lost its mind over the idea of losing Gaunce to Vegas!
