  1. Well next time you post bring a shovel. I lost you as soon as you went into the realm of other GMs. He missed on a fifth and drafted a problem player whom at the time, was right on the par line for a sixth overall on average. He'd have passed the par line this year if he wasn't a pervert. I've been following NHL hockey since the late 70's. If you think JB is the amongst the worst ever - you'd be in for a sad sorry surprise. He wasn't great he wasn't terrible either - but i suppose that's tough for kids who grew up under the Burke/Nonis/MG era. Make me 3 GMs who forced a player to give up their NMC or full trade clause. Didn't Garrison want to leave? I know being a Canucks fans isn't easy - but we were pretty spoiled for a long time. How's Detroit and Holland doing anyways? At least he actually gave up firsts year after year and got results.
  2. Hate to say this again. But from 2000-2014 the Canucks, Detroit and SJ won more games then any other team in the league. I had zero delusions that this wasn't going to take a long long long time. Each final appearance adds a bunch of years due to expansion. We have a little window now. But really BEST case - and sorry for younger fans that haven't figured this out yet - is that parts of the QHs EP core, meet up with what hasn't even happened yet and then MAYBE, best case again, we get back on top. Of course there are fluke seasons that could occur like the bubble. And that's ok too. But we weren't ever going to go from a top team to another top team with the next core with only Kesler and Luongo's trade. Sorry. JB well he was average. That's it. Let's hope the next group is elite. We need that.
  3. They sold before they had contracts coming up. Smart. I agree with everything you said. And for all those JB haters - they never seem to understand that once your team is locked in - full NMC and NTC's right down to guys like Hansen lol - the next GM has absolutely zero chance until the team sucks enough and the guys are willing to waive. The Sedins didn't. Neither did Edler. Hamhuis waffled and that's a point of contention for some to this day. Only Burrows, Hansen and Bieksa did - all three of them going to at the time good teams (Burrows to a team that just almost went to the final) but they were far far away from the same players they used to be.
  4. Let it go man. JB didn't have much of a chance to do anything but wait it out with the previous core. His mistakes came later - spending to the cap etc. If you like the team we have right now - it's 98% JB's. Edit: If you can name 3 GMs that sent guys packing with NMC and full NTC's i will give you a gold star.
  5. No doubt. I'm sure St. Louis and Detroit fans enjoyed 25ish years of playoffs each year to what we had, of course Wings won cups, and of course we had 3 final appearances... St. louis early ones don't count given the format lol. I'd rather get excited about our chances as an underdog then just miss. Man IF we had made it this year, i feel something special could of happened. Also why i don't want management to do anything too dramatic this off-season. Wait until we play the first 20 or so games at least next year and just make sure everyone is under contract.
  6. Again why would we trade Garland? Unless he's part of a very good deal i just don't see him as a cap dump. We could do a lot worse for 4.8ish or whatever it is exactly. Especially with Brock up in the air as well. Maybe management sees it differently but i like the kid. I think he's going to add an extra gear yet.
  7. So you found one team. How many more? Like i said - they don't have the top tier talent, and can afford to have a deep team so yes we are saying the same thing. Any others? How does he stack up with your favourite team MIN?
  8. Of course he is. ARI fans hated losing him in that trade. All he's done, at every single level is prove everyone wrong. He's got some Martin St. Louis and Theo Fleury in him. Led the entire CHL in scoring and still got passed on... he's got a gigantic chip on his shoulder. Would love to see what he could do with actual PP time. He's also the reason we can trade Brock and not worry about it too much. Cost controlled for four more years in the age group that JR likes. If we are going to pick on size well... that's another story and one i get. Scotty Walker and Ronning were tiny guys too. So is QHs. I doubt he's more then 5'9".
  9. Who cares about MIN? You could look around the league and try to find more guys - who played the same amount of time and scored more 5 x 5, drew more penalties and was plus 18 (didn't he lead the team in that category for forwards ... not sure but he was for most of the season).... he's not a third pairing player. St. Louis doesn't have top tier talent aside from maybe O'Reilly. For sure they are deep.
  10. Yes i remember that comment. All Garland did was score 5 x 5 ... 52 points worth in 77 games. That's not a third liner. He knows it, so does the coach and so does management. Tickling the old motivator strings by calling him out in a nice (kind of) way worked down the stretch didn't it? 49 even strength points ... where does that put him not only on our team, but with every forward? And he did that with 16:24 of ice time as well. That's very very decent production 5 x 5 - and he was a plus 18 AND he drew penalties. I'd hate to see him traded. To me he's worth a first rounder every single time. He's also fun to watch play. Edit: He scored as many EV assists as Kopitar and Crosby, almost one of the top 30 forwards in the league in that respect. Almost all the forwards ahead of him, are first line players.
  11. Boudreau was putting a spark under Garlands ass. And it worked. I agree with the OP - Garland is a very good 5 x 5 player, while with Green he led our team. He's also the reason why a Brock trade would be mitigated - and aside from EP, he draws the most penalties on the team. He's not a third liner.
  12. This lineup looks great this season. But it would only be a one year thing and as others have pointed out Dickinson is not a good 3rd C - 4th maybe that's it and even then he's better on the wing. Would see if Sutter would come back maybe and offer him the league min. That would bolster our bottom six and provide some depth. However i don't know how that helps our cap past this year .... basically we are picking Forsberg over Miller which is fine but we'd have to expect Miller is gone just to pay Horvat and the lineup wouldn't be as good the following year. That said IF somehow Allvin managed this - it would be both a minor miracle AND we'd be a much better team. Manson ... yes please.
  13. Absolutely. That said we just went through 8 years of JB, he'd say one thing, and do something completely different. The OJ draft is a perfect example of this - you could say he was talking about PLD or MT pre-draft for a month...and then picked OJ. That's an example of holding your cards i suppose as well. Mis direction of a fanbase does happen. IF we re-sign Miller how does that fit in with what they've said? Other then Allvin "not wanting to lose free agents for nothing"... And of course things never go quite the way they communicate. If the Canucks stay the course, end up first or second in our division and win a couple rounds, wouldn't they consider a lane change? As in locking the core in and adding vet support to plug holes .... get they don't have the assets for that right now other then picks. But it is a possibility. All they've done so far is one minor move in Dermott (fits the younger theme). If 26 is the age they want and younger, plus finding guys that can play on the same line for a very long time - Horvat, Miller both seem likely trade candidates .. Edit: Some might look at what COL did and think that's a good idea. Could trade Miller and ? Brock? Horvat? Won't work in my opinion. We don't have a Rantanen coming up, or a Girard ... and losing that type of center depth will toast our team and scuttle EP. Don't you think? Miller is the only guy that makes sense. And don't think it will be enough. I'd be surprised if they don't come to the same conclusion and just do very little next season. Other then along the edges. The decisions will be made during next years TDL. A few years of tanking might be the best medicine i don't know. To me it's like using your credit card to pay a bill by trading Miller just to get a RHD and Horvat just to get younger. Well not really, more like hitting on a 16 in blackjack. There is another option. That's praying that JR and Allvin can channel their inner Quin. For this team to succeed during QHs and Demko's contracts, we'd need a minor miracle - a second rounder for a Lumme - and a Butcher for a Courtnall, Ronning, Momesso, and that's why these proposals exist. You just never do know no matter what a GM or coach or player says on social media or in a clip.
  14. Yes. Also any D that's getting 20-25 even strength points is doing ok - well. One year Bieksa almost led the league in even strength points with very little PP time. If OEL and Myers are in that range it's decent although i'd agree for what they are paid it's not enough.
  15. Problem is all of those picks combined still have a lesser chance of finding an NHL of any substance, let alone one that will even play 100 games. If we drop a couple spots the price would be an additional second rounder. That's about the only thing we should consider... For perspective all the rounds past the third collectively have a combined chance of around 12.5% of finding ONE player to play 100 NHL games ... the 3rd 12.5% ... There is a statistical reason why Edler was our last home run and Hansen in the 3rd rounds and later - it just doesn't happen often. Gaudette was actually a big win lol. It's also why mid and higher first rounders are so coveted.
  16. Well said. Only thing i'd add to this of course they are also playing a game. You don't put your cards on the table and tell the media these are my cards. Who knows what's really said behind closed doors and on the phone - the only time i ever remember that becoming somewhat public was during Burke's and Lowes 2ish year feud, and the media lapped that up.
  17. A marginal risk. Clarke ranking in the low teens before this years draft is tough to consider much of a risk really. Only guys we've had since the JB era that did better then that were EP and QHs. And even QHs wasn't far off. For perspective that's in the same territory as Zegras and Boldy. Podz managed the late teens (18-19) coming into this season after a couple years of percolation in the KHL. Fighting for territory with usually 3 drafts including the one coming up - anyone in the top 20 is almost always going to make the NHL, and most of them as impact players.
  18. OTT has cap space and a stable of tweeners that would and should make Hoglander blush. Not talking about their Blue Chip young guys either. What could they have accomplished spending to the cap? Dorain and Melnyk both said they'd be spending to the cap again soon.... Sure they might wait to see what's on the free agent market first. Miller and a couple more vets could turn that team around fast. Just like us they are in the highest tax bracket which doesn't help. But they are in an enviable position of having a lot of trade chips and cap space. Won't find many teams like them.
  19. A trade and sign makes more sense for sure. Edit: OTT makes a lot of sense as a sign and trade but not sure he'd want to go there unless the brinks trucks were included. They need a vet like Miller helping that young crew. If we could get their first rounder and one of their extra tweeners that would be tough to refuse. Miller might like it here i'm not sure. What i'm pretty sure is going to happen is absolutely nothing around Miller. He's coming back. And the team won't trade him unless it's just too hard to refuse. I'd trade him for Clarke straight across in a heartbeat. And i love Miller. Edit: NJ as well. They are younger then our team.
  20. We won't get Clarke. He's their Doughty replacement. Too hard to find RHDs. Schneider wasn't even in the radar with NYR...Lundqvist isn't worth the trouble for sure we could do better. Again - what we can expect from Miller is a roster player coming back that is ho-hum to help that team with cap, a first rounder (not a high one a middling-late one) and a Grade A prospect. Clarke is a sure thing. About as close as they come to that anyways. If they offered us that we take it and run. I really don't see why LA would trade one year of Miller for much. Edit: The teams that could be interested are ones that aren't working on creating a core behind and aging one - that are trying to still win a cup. I don't think LA is that serious about winning a cup with Doughty, Quick and Kopitar, the same way CHI isn't that interested in trying to win with Kane and Toews. They know their window is closed. And are working on keeping appearance whilst getting the next group up and learning from those vets. Dallas, SJ, OTT, Boston, COL seem like good fits though. Only say SJ because although Wilson is on a hiatus - he's expected back lol. And they don't rebuild (not yet at least).
  21. That's how i see it too. Clarke all by himself is something we should be happy to get. For reference Lundqvist doesn't even crack the top 100. Rathbone is around 60. We'd be re-coup our first plus some from last season .... some of course is cap. I'd be fine with just playing Miller and making the playoffs over re-signing him to a long term deal he never is going to earn. Tavares. He isn't Tavares. In other words we get 3 years on his next deal ... after that ... ugh. Edit: Schneider in the high 30's (although won't be on the list next season)...Clarke in the low teens ....
  22. I don't think LA is going to be that interested in Miller. He's just too old for what they are working towards. They are hoping to have one last dance with their old guard, but they aren't going to be giving up the young assets to make it work. Wouldn't they just go after Forsberg for free instead? Or someone else? Oh and if they did want to play - Miller for Clarke straight across would be fine. If we could get a pick too we'd be lucky.
  23. Garland isn't the cap dump we need to consider. His value is higher then a couple lottery tickets given he's cost controlled throughout his prime and is one of our best 5 x 5 players. He's also Brocks age basically ... that's the guy we should be considering. Only reason the team should even consider this would be if they have plans for cap somewhere else or if they just don't like him (which makes little sense other then his size). Garland age fits the team and has four years left on his deal. Mitigates the loss of our first last season as well...and allows the team to deal Brock if we need too. A couple seconds ... 50% don't play 100 NHL games. Hoglander is a success story. Edit: As for Klim...don't look at one of the leagues best teams and expect similar production. I won't happen. JR wants more young C's and RHDs. Think Klim is pretty safe at least for now.
  24. Still think that you are asking too much for Miller. An 8th overall who actually slipped a little in the draft - some had him going near the top. IF ARI got Clarke JB would have been forever roasted (not that he shouldn't anyways...) .... To me it's a pretty fair trade straight across without adding Turcotte and this years 19th overall - that's half their youth right there as far as their trades that forced them to get worse so they could re-set around their aging core. Which is exactly what Blake's intentions were all along. 3 first rounders for Miller isn't going to happen. If they offered us this deal we'd be coming out like bandits. Anyone arguing against doing this trade has their heads in the clouds still regarding what they think Miller can get us in a trade.
  25. Half measures. I don't blame JB for what he had to deal with at the start. He followed the protocols in place and managed to draft decently enough until its last gasp. But his "competitive" complex did him in. Really screwed up our cap. This idea that our fanbase can't endure a rebuild was ridiculous. Get it wasn't going to come right away, what i don't get was him thinking we were as close or as good as he thought. I'm sure JR, Allvin and the chipmunks won't be so daft. Even the casual fan can see that we didn't bottom out properly. As soon as Burrows, Bieksa and Hansen left, that was his chance to let us flounder and not spend to the cap.
