Kadri's old house.

For the next couple years they are dealing with Parise and Suter ... so yep cap hell at least as far as maximizing a team. Guerin seems to be playing the long game from his comments. Doubt we get much other then a bag of pucks trading him to MIN.

I didn't want to say that but have to agree. It's not like the team was a complete pushover because it wasn't (2011)...Kesler, Bieksa, Lappy...ok maybe a little bit but not much for the times. The Bruins obviously we were totally outmatched - they actually had the leagues tough guy at the time in Scott Thornton (which says it all with how the league was already trending), bully boy crybaby Lucic (who asked the refs to come in the first time he fought and actual good enforcer because he was losing lol - most of his fight cards are not really that impressive as far as quality of competition goes - but he's still pretty badass even back then), McQauid (Gudbranson of his era - basically had his way with most his opponents but not a frequent fighter) and man beast Chara (who actually was at best a mediocre fighter when he came in against a much much stiffer level of competition).... we had Bieksa lol all barely 6'0 of him and 192lbs... not a good match. Most fans hoped Boston would beat Tampa who was pretty loaded ... not me. I was like oh sh!t when Boston beat TB. It's a minor miracle it went to 7 games. Our 2014 team was actually tougher team which says a lot too lol. Didn't have a Torres head hunter on it but at least we could ice a decent tough 4th line. Last teams we had that had any sort of toughness go back to the mid-late 2000's. And even they were meh. Have to go back to the Keenan era really. He always made sure we had two enforcers. Plus plus. Walker/McAllister, Scratchard (lol he had a great scrap with Joe Thornton)...Crowder, Ciccone .. and of course Brashear. Jovo, McCabe (for those who don't know he came in as a tough player too)... Plus guys like Cooke, Ohlund, Ruutu and Bertuzzi / either pests or bashers. And if you want to see a team with actual size go check out our early 90's teams (-aside from Ronning) lol. Sandlak. Butcher. Lumme. Diduck. Babych. Murzyn. Momesso. Gino, Antoski, Hunter etc etc etc ...Even our skilled guys got a little dirty like Courtnall. That team would destroy the 2011 team in a 7 game series. Also would have made patsies out of the "big bad 2011 Bruins". Even Hedican and Nedved were tall.

That's good to know. I'm going to wait and see at least two normal 82 game seasons before starting to pass judgement. Schnieder also was considered a top five goalie when we traded him. There are a lot of big names in the league right now that have proven they belong. I'm stoked that Demko is becoming one - last year was so so. This year yes he's moving up the ranks. Edit: Again not picking on Demko. He's a few years ahead of where Markstrom was at the same age. I've also met the guy he's a total gentleman. And tall lol. I like him. He's got some McLean in him too. Edit: Number one goalies is by far the most fickle position in the league. It's very very difficult to be consistently good year to year. The ones that are - are both rare and treasured. It's why Bobrovsky and Price got their deals.
-
I absolutely don't blame Demko at all. All i'm saying is thus far he's proven to be an above average starter - that's to me around top 12. It's also realistic. I've watched a ton of promising goalies come in and do there thing. And the ones that stick end up playing 300 plus games. Demko is a great goalie...being a top 10-12 guy in the world is no small thing. Will wait for a couple years before i start crowning him. Cloutier actually had a couple very good regular seasons too. Will wait to see what happens next time we make the playoffs. Just talking about Ranford. Back then he was considered a lock for the next big thing. How did that work out? Not saying he's Jim Carey either. But let's be logical about this. Edit: Sure composite sticks. Hull Sr. blasted pucks at 120mph with a wooden one. I get that people love to think the game is faster - and it is because of one thing - no redline. If you watched guys like Lafleur, Gartner, Bure, Federov etc .. you'd be thinking the same thing i am. Which is way more Schenn types on the bottom pairing back then, way less power forwards today (none really - maybe Wilson who'd get his lunch fed to him by 60-70 different guys back then) , no off sides lol...an extra pass every time up the ice is 80% of the reason the game is faster - the other 20% is because the league has - taking a word from Milburies book - pansified itself to the point where 4th line guys are what we have now. Instead of Gino, Hunter and Antoski (who was actually fast)... Go watch the games from 1989 against CAL. You'd be surprised i bet. Good grief we don't even have power forwards anymore. Used to be 15-25 at any given time.
-
Yes for sure. Vernon. It's easier to talk about him now lol. But he actually won almost as many games as Lundqvist once you turn those games into ties. And how many cup rings does he have again? Detroit was a great team in the early 90's a powerhouse really. Took some time to gain some traction... Vernon did it with two different teams just like Roy - and he was only 5'7" And what a glove: only Furh had one as flashy as his.
-
Yes times are changing. Think GMs have wised up a little that size only really mattered when goalie equipment was unreal (hello Garth Snowman)...when guys used to tape pads on top of pads on their shoulders. Markstrom is maybe the next Rinne. Following the same path. But like i said we already know it's unlikely to make it through his contract because of injuries. Bishop is 6'7" and did the same thing around the same age then well he's on the LTIR still. Can't think of any 6'4" plus goalie in the HHOF... Dryden and Luongo probably end up as the tallest guys to make it. Just simple mechanics and stress tests perhaps. For me seeing a little goalie with tons of net behind him make miraculous save after save was a lot more exciting then just doing the butterfly and tall enough to block most of the net above. Edit: Oh on Ranford. He gets forgotten - but what he did in 1990 was just as miraculous as what Quick and Thomas did. Only better performance i've seen in the playoff since was Roy's in 93 - which to me is the highest bar since what Parent did in PHI come playoff time. Which says a lot. Quick and Thomas were both otherworldly ... Hasek in Buff but they lost fair and square ... Roy in 86 was pretty unreal too - same as 2001. Roy is the best playoff goalie since expansion. But Ranford sure makes a case for a one off season. I was blown away at some of the action - shot after shot just did a Demko / bubble thing.
-
Thing is a few of our down spots with Bruce were somewhat explainable with context. Halak had one great game - against COL... Demko just isn't Luongo or Broduer (yet - probably never, those guys were next level ) as in a goalie that can play 65-75 games a year and give the team a chance each time to win. And THEN do playoffs ... Broduer ... Roy, Plante, Hall, Sawchuk, Parent, Dryden, Hasek ... he's not that yet. He's proven to be a slightly above average starter - and before i get crapped on for saying that - think about it. First there is nothing wrong with that. It was his first full year. Secondly he played injured for about a month at the end. That's a little concerning. We need a very capable back-up not a Halak next season. Times are reverting back a little to when two goalies carried the mail. Demko is a big body, most big goalies end up injured and can't play all the games its pretty much a fact. Rinne, Bishop, i'd put good money on Markstrom too (he's already got a history).... You'd be hard pressed to find many goalies in the HHOF or going into it that are over 6'1-2. Price ... Luongo ... who else yet? Absolutely going to get some great goaltending from him but as far a durability goes it's a big question mark still. Martin - i hope this guy is the real deal. It sure would be something if he can steal games and make it easy on the team when Demko needs a break. Personally i don't see Demko as a 65 game guy for the remainder of his contract. He's going to need breaks. Means we need a guy who can come in and play 20-25 games and not hurt us. Edit: If we can do that then not only could we make a consistent run at making the playoffs, we'd also have relatively fresh goalies for the post season when things get amped up. Gary Roberts ran McLean 3 times in one game. Bubble Demko is going to get similar treatment. Manson sure would be a nice add. So would Deslaruiers

Every team needs free agents. There isn't a team in the league that doesn't use them. Look at CAL lol. Completely &^@#ed JB - bent him over and said thank you very much now they are a contender. Markstrom at 6 x 6 ... part of that was just terrible timing with stupid Seattle. At least we beat the crap out of them this year (Seattle). Also kind of hope that Vancouver re-ignites the best rivalry we've ever had which was the 89-95 period against CAL. We took over where the Oilers left off. Two very tough and very deep and very skilled teams. Back to the now. We are entering a phase where we have to pay up for guys in their prime and third deals. Are you also saying we shouldn't re-sign Boeser, Miller, Horvat etc?

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
IBatch replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I have a modest respect for some teams that we've actually battled in the past. Other then that meh. Have some Cherry in me because i would like to see the cup return to Canada ... when i was 20 i'd never had thought in a million years i might not see it back again before i was 50. Crazy. And was actually rooting for LA lol. -
Did you prefer Beagle, AR and LE? Every team has to balance things out. We've also got Poolman and Dickinson...how do u feel about them?
-
The OP ranked them a little differently based on "potential" but i prefer what you just did. Can't really disagree with any of that except Schenn should be in there at the top at an 11. Top four D at 750k...And if i could i'd also give Miller an 11.

Only thing he needs to do is get into the groove that this guy had 3 x 3 and with his ledger of shootout players .. -
Maybe this site should be age restricted. Edit: I like to see the pre-game stuff but once the game is on ... you won't see me post hardly ever. Maybe a tiny bit between periods. I can't do two things at once.. Unlike my lovely wife who can watch our favourite show and facebook and watch videos of whatever. I can't stand that either. Games on shut up and don't say anything. Sometime i scream at the TV though. And really enjoy the PGT. And also i live on the wrong side of the country for home games so that plays into it. What cracks me up is i sometimes get up and watch the PVR at 3:00 and you guys are still talking about the game in the PGT. We are all fans ... i should be more inclusive, but some of the stuff I read makes me feel bad about the state of fandom with what i can only think is stuff that would come out of my kids mouths. That said i'm sure id have been really hard to take if this platform existed when i was in my teens and early 20's too. I'd be mostly lamenting about how come we couldn't have a dynasty like MTL/NYI and the Oilers.

Hey not everyone. But i don't take any offense because even i'm not immune to it. Garland has also proven to be solid - as is Pearson when he plays. As soon as TT came in and guys started on Brock i defended him right away. Guy tried his best in the bubble and didn't hurt the team one bit - taking hits to make plays and rushing back to help every shift. That was the only part of his game the first year especially, and a little bit the second year that needed polishing. This year he did look lost often. That's ok. Brocks quite literally scored about a dozen less goals then Pearson (think it might be 11 lol..:take away the Green empty netters and well about even lol) in less then 250 games. It's his 5th year but he's only played about 4 seasons worth of games - some covid related other injuries which is a concern. Don't know why we can't have good things. Instead trade him for a bunch a bag of pucks just to get whom? Domi? No thx. Manson and a little cap savings ... well i'm not the boss but at least that makes a little sense. That said Tre Mac you don't need to stop logging in bro. And your not the only one who's noticed a ridiculous amount of spam or negativity around him. There is a lot of posters (myself included) that get a little too wrapped up in cap hits lol. Those guys/gals for the most part get a pass ... just want what is best for the team. The only ones who need to be shamed a little, are the ones who say crap like "one dimensional" (he's not that - he's a great teammate - and like you've pointed out he's capable along the boards - and actually is a very good passer too) and when worse "trash - garbage" ... shamed me as a fan that our fans can be so cruel ... Brock had an off year. But we don't have to say mean things about him. Edit: And back to TT. Why would fans be so quick to backlist an injured 23 year old RW - our best for a couple seasons / because some LA drafted player comes in and scores at the same pace he did multiple times over the same sample size before? And it didn't matter anyways, we only won like 2 or 3 freaking games WITH him in the lineup down the stretch. At least JB treating him like the rental which he was. Aside from Sundin, i've never seen such fan love for a player who was barely even here. Edit: Even without any ascension, Brock is on pace to blow TT out of the water by the time he plays the same games too. Hope he does and that it's with us.
-
Nope ... i'm guessing 45-50 though.
-
How does Hoglander get a 5 ... and Garland (5 x 5 he was very good for us) get a 6? Were you expecting 60 points without any first unit time? I'd give Garland a 9. Draws as many penalties as EP, doesn't get the ice time that others do and was about as close to max potential as anyone on the ice. Miller a 10 or even an 11. And Myers gets an 8.5. OEL Myers got the toughest assignments. And faired better then the league average. Against the best in the world. Bo gets maybe a 7... Was maybe a 5 until his last quarter of the year. Agree with EP. A 4 the first half a 10 down the stretch. Hope that's not QHs 9. Expecting even more from him but yep way above expectations for me after last season. The only other 10 we haven't mentioned is Schenn. He gets an 11. Aside from Miller the only guy that truly overachieved. Brock at 5 bang on. Green ... lol got it. I'd give him a 5. He turned a 22 ish possession team into a top five one. What he didn't do was anything at all with special teams and wasted his training camp on plugs. Turns out he picked the right plugs though at least. Edit: Remember this is about potential and did they reach it. Green at 5 is like Bruce getting a 1. In other words you way overvaluing Green. The he's not going to become the second coming of Quin or something.
-
Yes it is. As is Miller. So is Horvat. Going to be a tough call by Allvin on how to jam them all in. Brocks age is his only advantage. Injuries don't look good on his resume.
-
Actually that's about right. 3 x 6. Or just QO him and keep looking for a trade partner. He can still get his legacy deal - but he hasn't earned it yet so shouldn't. Throwing 40-50plus million at guys is only once they are proven. Look at Miller. Look at Naslund. Look at the Sedins ... 4 year ish deals AFTER they showed promise. Sure teams blow their budgets to keep a UFA or two around and that's fine - ONCE they are proven. Brock isn't there yet. He's close though and could blow the doors off. But at this point the player you have is the player your most likely going to have. A 50 point player on the low side assuming he's injured which is 4/5 years now. And most not full seasons because of covid and minimal extra games (post season ... regular playoff teams play a lot more then 82 games)... when he's out it isn't as good. Ideally i'd say 5.5 x 3. For the club. But his pedigree is going to bump that up as is his potential. There still is some. I also doubt we can afford Horvat/Miller and Brock. We can there is a way ... but we also need cap help and help in other areas. See Brock QO for one year or a 3-4 deal or traded.
-
Too much hasn't earned a 30-48 deal. Around 24-27 and that's even on the high end. To me it's a 4 year deal at basically the same cap hit, or a 5 year deal at less then he's making. He barely earned his bridge deal as a UFA. Was overpaid.
-
Yep. IMO Garland is a better player. Domi is a mistake.
-
To save 1 million dollars lol. Myers can go but i'm not holding my breath that his replacement doesn't make us miss him.
