  1. Garland shouldn't be treated like a cap dump. If Boeser is going Garland has to pick up the slack. One or the other. We do need more in the pipe to support these guys later. And agree that Max isn't at all worth 6.5 that's an anchor contract. Also have zero care or interest to what these guys did or didn't do together in juniors. That's a long time ago now. Agree he'd be a Pearson replacement. I doubt Domi gets much more then a 4 year deal around 5. At the most. Hoffman had better stats really.
  2. Yes it would mean we'd be back into rebuild mode 100%. Whether or not that's a good or bad thing, we won't really know for another couple years at least. Feel this team is already a perrenial playoff contender for the next decade IF we play our cards right. Part of that absolutely means we need to draft well, and not let free agents walk for nothing. Pearson is up soon. Maybe next year if not the following one for sure. Horvat, Miller and Brock all have pro's and con's to trading or re-signing. Think Horvat is the only one who could get the max. Miller not a chance. Brock a 3-4 deal at most ... likely just his QO. Nice thing about doing that - he can re-sign with the team whenever they find a mutually fair number (after he gets qualified). Gets his JB bonus lol...probably 1.5-2 too much. Then can set up his deal to reflect that. Take it off the total. Miller is talked about so much because he's a worrisome anchor. For sure he should be fine for 4 more years ... next season included. After that regression is almost guaranteed. Nice thing is covid has limited these guys games somewhat, as has no deep playoff runs so their bodies can absorb some damage yet. This team feels a lot like the year before we took off with the Sedins. It's not at all the same. Aside from no Bure (not the Miller hasn't piled up the points ... respect!) - to me it's different then the early 90's teams but has more of the same feel to it then any other team i've watched. Something special is brewing. Don't mess with what's working. That's a cardinal sin as far as managing goes. Edit: As an aside - Allvin did just enough to create the space to re-up those guys who need it, in particular Brock. Brock could be traded for personal reasons as much as anything else. But i suspect he's staying. At least for next season.
  3. Next year we can bring the same team back and give it another go with Bruce and Martin. I'd be more surprised if we don't do that. It would be nice to have one of those 3 done this off-season just for clarity, it would also save Allvin a lot of work ... i'd be starting with Horvat, but Brock can also sign a medium term deal if he wants to stay. There are other teams closer to his Dad that could be interested in him. MIN given their cap issues ... he'd probably have to take a big discount to go there. Being with his pals and support group in Vancouver is also a good thing. A new team, closer to home say Detroit - means new friends, new teammates, new coaches etc etc etc. Hard to say but in a way his QO offer works for both parties. Cap hit is absolutely too high. But it just seems like the right thing to do. These guys are doing something special right now. Hard to think they wouldn't want to be part of that - together.
  4. It's exactly what could happen. Throwing yourself - all of it - into work when other things aren't so great worked for me for the better part of a decade. That said who knows everyone responds to loss differently. I think Allvin cleared the cap for Brocks QO... one year. Might not even bother with his arbitration. Is 1.25ish even worth the bother? Trading him to MIN for sure is an option but i don't think Guerin would go for it.
  5. Yes. Know the media has a job, but i'm not a fan of the post and pre game media bonanza that for whatever reason the game has evolved into. It's not necessary. When Friedman was cutting his teeth in our circuit during the WCE era, he'd meet a player post game - we'd get a few comments about the game ... and that's it (on the way to the dressing room ).... Save the prize fight stuff for the playoffs. Coaches maybe let them do it, but not every single game. And since we have an open line of communication - i also pine for the days that nobody had a clue what any of these guys made and everyone identified with a different player. Ryan Walter. Dixon Ward... Or Tim Hunter. Or whomever jerseys you'd see at the games. Nobody cared about cap hits etc. Know that it was a necessity once salary disclosure bumped salaries into the stratosphere....and there wasn't a site back then - but i bet you wouldn't ever see garbage " so and so" in the same sentence. It's rude and not required even now. Once they put on our jersey they are part of our team. Trash, garbage .. that's not how a responsible fan should act. You never know what's going on in any CDCers life either (my bad too) ... these guys don't need us peaking behind the curtain too much. Brock ... well man that's really tough. Wish him the best.
  6. I'd like to see you skating around at 6'3" without your shirt on lol. Of course the guy was an athlete. Jesus.
  7. No it's Gino Antoski and Hunter. That was the "Fear Line". Was the real deal too. Hunter was on his last legs but already was a bit of a legend - and for sure always gave a little extra stick in the ribs in the corners. Antoski was a hulking monster. I never saw him lose a fight decisively. And beat the tar out of some pretty good fighters. Was a sad when he left. Had shoulder issues. Think he went to PHI.
  8. The "Fear Line" ... for those who don't know it was the toughest line the Canucks ever iced. All three of these guys were warriors even though only two had careers of note. Antoski had shoulder issues. But was one of the best fighters in the league for a short time and was actually our heavy heavyweight when he was here. Guy was a monster. Watching Antoski basically have his way with anyone he fought while here was a treat. Edit: Wilson/Lucic - whomever would have had their lunch fed to them by any of these guys in their prime.
  9. lol why all of a sudden Pearson? I swear this fanbase is totally bi-polar. So we can do what with the ONE million saved? Find another Dickinson?
  10. I'd play for Bruce and want him to be proud of me for sure. Green have a personal connection (distant) know he's a really nice man and his family is well appreciated in the community. So it probably affected that a little. Was the wonder kid in High School who was going to win a cup for the town - super high hopes coming out of WinterHawks...lots of buzz about him in Grade 11. "almost as good as Gretzky" lol ... know what kids are like and it was hard not to get wrapped up in it. Played in a very rough and tough era as well. I still have hopes he gets a job and redeems himself. Bomber - my god that five man box got old fast in the bubble. And Green made some serious mistakes with the guys in the pre-season. Should have played the regulars and new guys to get them in sync, instead looking for the plugs. Chia actually did work out in the end though - and Green did have us playing well 5 x 5. Special teams terrible.
  11. I sure hope that's not the case. To me that means a blow up or a re-set is coming.
  12. Yes he'd have to coach until he's around 70...guy seems to love it though. Didn't need to come back. I think he's going to commit to two years with an option for a third. Quin had to quit because his hips started failing him ... these guys were once athletes for the most part, and the body does break down...I sure hope he's around for 3 seasons though. The closer we are to a cup the longer he stays. I'm certain this team makes it next season. This team is special. I've watched them since the late 80's and exposed to them since the 70's ... and have to say only a few times i've had that tickle of excitement that we are on the cusp of something special.
  13. He will either sign a 4 year deal at around 5.5-6, or be taken to mediation. In that case his cap hit almost certainly goes down to 6.35... we don't need to sweat it that much. And we also don't need to give up on him to sign Miller next season. Tactically, unless there is a player out there this summer that will offer better window and actual return as a UFA, the team isn't in a hurry to trade anyone. I love the idea of Manson but maybe that's a mistake too. Hamonic was. Brock needs to get spend his summer working on a few things and come in prepared. Last season he was absolutely fine at his cap hit. This year was for sure troubling. Best case is actually we keep him - now that he's not getting a long term deal by anyone - get him for four years at around 5.5 ... and he turns into the 35/35 guy virtually every expert predicted he'd become his second and third year (hockey pools are a fun pass time - go back and find any expert that didn't have him in the 65-75 point range and post it if you can find it)... Injuries to me also reduce his cap hit. It's not a big risk for the team to sign him for four years. And it's definitely stupid to sell low on your assets. Brock will be back next season, i'm pretty sure. Unless a trade comes up that's not really a sell low thing. Same team with EP going from the start and Brock just doing his .85 average before this year is one that's winning percentage goes up. Martin looks like the real deal too. .700 is actually within the realm of realism in those cases with everything else being the same.
  14. How's it half the price? Garland is one of my favourite players to watch on this team - so love him already not saying he didn't have a way more valuable season. Guys got some Martin St. Louis in him - and no way should we be trading him either. Give him some PP time on the first unit and i see him scoring 70 points.
  15. If Bruce comes back for three seasons, 700 is well within reach. That puts him up there with coaching legends like Al Arbour. Pretty incredible really. Of course ideally we could add a cup too...(740 is pretty realistic, as is top ten...needs to be 3 seasons though).
  16. Whalers had one of the coolest logos in hockey. Also why i was happy to see Babych... That guy had a Selleck stache his rookie year lol (Jets)..
  17. Starting in July he has to submit a 10 team no trade list. 21 teams is quite a few dance partners. For me - i like Myers and have no issue with his cap or keeping him on next season.
  18. It's not pee-wee where kids cry if they get benched. I'm not saying we didn't need to make a change that much was obvious. But i also think Green didn't have many games where the effort wasn't there either. Bruce had about as many. Better motivator. I always liked players coaches the most. Guys willing to go through a wall for their coach wins cups.
  19. Pretty sure most felt we'd be a fringe playoff team entering this season. And if we win tonight most would have felt that would be enough. 95-100 was the best case. Experts odds makers had us mostly in the high 80's with one the highest of the five groups at 92.
  20. I'm expecting at best another 2 years. Just like Naslund, just like the Sedins around 3 great seasons in a row.
  21. Not to mention he was a big part of a cup winning team as a rookie. Definitely not apples and apples. One of the better centers of his generation (him and Eric Staal) ... debatable if he's HHOFer but it will be close.
