I sure hope your not serious. That's pretty paranoid. We are definitely not the only team to have had some interference or bad calls. Imagine being an LA King, up a goal late in the 3rd. Outplayed MTL first two games. Roy just a brick wall. Then get a penalty for a curved stick and lose the series. Inches from up 2-0. We haven't had anything done to us, that other teams also have had done to them.

Where would CAL be without our leftovers? Maybe ok but certainly not a contender. Which they truly are right now.

Decide what to do with Brock. And have a solid plan in place for both Miller and Horvat depending on how things go. Don't do anything stupid either. That's about all they need to do this off season. Maybe Martin/ back-up plans as well.

So aside from the low hanging fruit in TB... Look at how many cracks at the bat it took an equally advantaged Miami team to get to where they were. If that doesn't look fun - then how about CAR? Very few playoff spots since their final run(s)...a ton missed in a row. NYR looks to be doing a TB right now - as in a couple bad/down years and then right back to it. But they haven't won a cup since they beat us either, and really were a lucky team their last final run. There are so many more teams that struggle for half to a full decade before they come out of it then ones that do what they've done. If St. Louis didn't get lucky they'd still be the poster boy of just keep trying just keep trying but never really be a top team. Suppose that gives us some hope. The league is so big now that teams on average, have to go through a decade of middling to a chance or two - then back to sucking for about the same. Play-ins need to start becoming a major GM meeting add on. 20/32 teams doesn't sound so bad and isn't. Especially given parity. Reduce the season back to 80 games and add a round and let four teams fight for the two wild card spots in each conference. Seats won't be as empty down there stretch, and massive upsets could become story lines. GMs shouldn't be so worried about LTIR either. I'm 100% ok with them going over the cap - teams and fans deserve the best possible product after the regular season. That's how i feel anyways. This season was an eye opener for me at least. And get rid of 3 x 3 OT and the shootout. If your going to keep them then make ALL games worth 2 points and weight then 2 for an honest 5 x 5 OT win, and if you need the shoot-out then 1.5 for the winner .5 for the loser. It's a team sport for crying out loud. Not a skills best on best competition - save that for the all-star game.

Full confession i had a little tiny tingle somewhere in my nether regions that this would finally be the guy to fit with the twins. Turns out that of course was Burrows - and probably indigestion. My brain did say "huh" though a few times when LE was our big signing that year. That was when he was 30. Wasn't it?

Your assuming EP is still here. I hope he is. EP might be on a line with Podz and someone new as well who knows. It's a real pickle. At least we get to chat about this pickle though. Can see both sides. Probably something in the middle is what's going to actually occur - but as Spook just brought up, one of Brock or Garland also likely end up gone. That's an oppurtunity cost i don't care to even try and figure out.
-
All i can say it's going to cost the club something too. Either Brock or Garland. That's ok. I don't know the future - but i do have a pretty good understanding of the past going back to original expansion and beyond. We are rolling the dice both ways. Don't know the correct answer but can say, Miller is likely bought out if we go to six years - past that for sure.
-
All depends on Miller. A lot of guys that last half decade waited. Miller gets to decide if he wants to get to free agency not the club. If he does - so be it. Allvin said he doesn't want to lose guys to free agency, but i doubt he's so stupid to sign a 30 year old until he's 37/38 either. At least i hope he's not.

Did we though? Gillis contracts aside from Luongo's retarded deal - were all medium/short term. Who did he hand out a 7-8 year deal too aside from again Luongo's? Nobody. The Sedins got a four year deal then another one. Zin got his next deal when he was how old again? And how old is Hertl now. I really can't re-call that many deals aside from fringe or HHOFers that for paid until they were 38. Miller doesn't fit that bracket IMO. I really doubt we re-sign Miller for more then 6 years. And his cap hit isn't going to nearly as ridiculous as some think if we do. Trade him. Let him go to market if they don't like a lucrative deal from the team that gave him a shot at number one. Edit: aGENT that said i think your fears are valid. I just don't think we are going to do it. Edit: Why can't we have good things and appreciate them too? I'm a fan. Miller isn't perfect. Bertuzzi and Naslund were far from perfect too. I like the guy. And hope we can sign him to a 5-6 year deal that's not dumb. If not then ok. Trade him or even just enjoy him while he's here - and that's enough. Courtnall. Ronning. I sure did with them, same with Adams.

If that's the case we just cut bait aGENT. Guess we will find out. A lot of freaking out over the years about cap hits. Percentage is fine. Just because they want the moon - doesn't mean they get it. I really doubt Miller gets the moon, if he was younger then absolutely. He's not. Edit: I actually think we are saying the same things. To me he's earned 3/4 of what Zin signed for - same with Hertl. That's it. 6 years. We as a team can live with that. If he wants the moon then he's getting bought out - after playing with ARI or some other crap team that can afford him. He knows this too. And that's the max really. Guys that are 30 years old don't get those types of deals often. Yes it happens. For defenseman. Kronwall and AP come to mind. Forwards though? Even the best of the best end after their legacy deals are up take little tiny contacts term wise until they are done. 2/3 years isn't enough. Their agent can say whatever they want.

Josh Manson is my hope for Brock. As in cap savings from his deal - and that we trade him. Myers and Manson sort our right side out until Myers is gone. That said it really depends on what the term and cap hit are. Having as many legit top four guys as we can down the depth chart is a very good equalizer from not having an all around number one D. We've done this two times before - both times we ended up in the final. I'd say 3 times but McCarthty was out and Butcher as a rookie came in.
-
Thanks that someone else finally noticed that. It only happens with bona-fide top tier guys - and even then not very often. The guys that actually managed great things past 33/34 were mostly NOT on long term deals or just finishing theirs up. Nobody is going to give Miller 8.5-9 x 7 or for us 8 years. Nobody. IF Miller wants to go to market so be it. He won't get a ridiculous 7-8 year deal from us.

Thing is we won't be going "all-in". The team has next season to re-sign guys too. Only major decision this off season is what to do with Brock. That's about it. Cap space will come back our way over time as well the way things are staggered. Best possible scenario IMO is the team does really well, wins a round or two and the guys commit to the team. Have a nice little 4-5 window. Let's use it. Don't get many chances with 32 teams. Can we be better? Of course. Manson ... i'd trade Brock and take a run at him. Sure there are others too. EPs going to be dynamite for us next season. Miller probably ends up with about the same many points again as well. During the "Green" part of this season 3 things were off and it wasn't 5 x 5 play. It was our PK, and EP/BB. Otherwise we'd have 108-110 points right now. Edit: Massive roster change takes time. About one year to click. Let's not mess with a good thing. Time to rest Demko and play Martin.
