  1. I doubt the team has the funds for all three of Brock, Miller and Horvat mid-long term. Flat cap ... what bad timing. What they do have is a chance to see what they can do next season in the playoffs, and think they will take that chance.
  2. Absolutely agree. We won't get Miller type performance at his cap hit in the free agent market that's for sure. If we had even one more player in the pipe - high end enough to be comfortable, i'd be ok with playoffs next year, for the guys experience, and then Miller going to wherever he wants. We don't have that. Kind of a pickle isn't it? Unless EP blows the doors off which, well he has been doing since Bruce took over ... and getting better as the season goes on. That might make one run worth it. Think he's scoring at over 90 points and 45 goals...that's something, and if Miller keeps it up next season ... Brock has a career year. We'd be a tough team to beat even with our flaws. Have to weigh one year over the next five.
  3. If we lose Brock straight up and trade Miller for this we might as well pack it in and re-start the rebuild. Trade Horvat too because what would he want to stay. EP probably won't either. It's an option. Kap was playing with elite linemates in TO ... to me he's Hogs plus. Won't be getting much from him. Marino of course would be ok. The picks would help our rebuild of course. PIT is doing their last hurrah right now. Doubt they want Miller for more then a final cup chance. Malkin probably gets let go. He's a great player when he's in the lineup. But that cap ... could be used in better ways. Tough to say really ... not a bad proposal really, but it won't make our team better next season. The draft will be telling what direction Allvin wants to go.
  4. It sure would. We need one more guy in the pipe on top of him coming up ... without him in the lineup...it would really suck. He's our swiss army knife.
  5. Pretty decent way to say it....
  6. Allvin already stated he hates seeing UFAs go for nothing...if the team didn't play so darn good since Dec 2, we'd probably already seen major surgery at some point. Nice thing is, aside from Brock, he's got 1/3-1/2 or maybe to next years TDL to decide what to do...and of course if a deal comes that makes sense the trigger gets pulled as well.
  7. Good try. First you need to make a thread about it.
  8. Yes i know that ... we are also chasing the second wild card spot and would beat Dallas on any tie breaker ... 3rd is ideal but i'd take COL too. Dallas losing two in a row gives us a sliver of hope in that regard. LA has an easy schedule - but also doubt they pull off six wins in a row as well.
  9. Just watch some Mario and Lindros highlights. All anyone needs to do. League was super fast back then too. With a redline.
  10. I'm not. It's just part of the bad mojo from that era. Actually didn't mind we signed him (at the time after the shock wore off). Two years before still a top C in the league and showing no sign of aging. What happened next was like throwing a hand grenade into a good dressing room.
  11. If we make the playoffs...in the third spot. I don't think the odds would be as long as we might think. Against COL first round? Slim
  12. Nope. Sad thing our best lineup was the one with Mogilny, Bure, Walker, a young Ohlund coming etc... On paper that one with Messier is tough to beat. If he'd only taken the second line center role, and fell in behind Linden...but didn't happen. Instead we got the Orca and we got the WCE team and we got the Sedin team. For 14 years only SJ and Detroit won as much as we did. Edit: And it was the 92/93 team that really shone the brightest.
  13. Wish more of us could aspire to this sort of fandom. Also feel the same way. And for the team until we make the playoffs:
  14. Can't believe i'm defending Eddie Vader, but in his defense it seems like murphy's law that aside from LE anyways, once a player is picked on a lot and it gains some traction, it often blows up. Maybe it's time to get our digs in on Demko? Being rather "average". Whatever it takes!
  15. As for MIN. Hartman really impressed me during the play-ins - as did Soucy. Not at all surprised to see Hartman enjoying some success. Good player - does all the little things right and has some skill. What i hoped to see from Motte. Guerin's team with more cap space would be a powerhouse. Needed the surgery though.
  16. Yes that's how i see it too. Unless for some reason two teams above us have absolute stinkers ... which isn't going to happen. LA easy schedule. Vegas plays Dallas ... yikes there whom do we cheer for? Way i see it too exactly. The team can afford to only lose 1 out of ten points or we are done for. LA goes without saying, a must win. Dallas losing a couple gives us hope but really it was LA and Vegas we want to stink it up.
  17. I think the team has shown enough the last 50 games ... it's a good team. That said. Just to poke some fun...let's just win this ... if not then we always have the draft ... and next season ... when Miller will be like: Edit: Alf's pre-game ritual.
  18. I remember a rare moment where i actually predicted we could end up with Podz, yet another top 3 ranked player at 10 entering the draft. Big pat on my back for that. Said it many times, could end up with Podz. One thing he did better then anyone in that draft was he was a puck hound. His skating and shot was good too. Size of course for his age was good too. To me it was a home run. Guys going to be a solid addition for sure, and has already proved he belongs.
  19. Yep. Fans can be the worst. Media plus fans ... adds some ketchup. Which should never be put on a hotdog. Kessel for awhile anyways, was old reliable for my hockey pools at one point. A staple in the top ten there or around, just like a hot dog for easy to eat so so fast easy food (add some onions and mushrooms and it's easy to elevate lol). It is funny he filled the cup with hot dogs.
  20. Ha ha jokes on you so far. Brock has been just fine.
  21. Yes he beat Benn. But really this is kind of silly. A brief google search of Vancouver's best fighters all-time comes up with some pretty ridiculous rankings. One from the Canucks Army - has Bieksa at five and Rypien (RIP) in it too. We've had a lot of great fighters over the years....but if people know Schenn's history, he was a punching bag for about a decade when he dropped them. He's getting better with age (quality of competition went way down, and finally learning helped) - but fighting isn't a big thing anymore and hasn't been for a decade or so. Benn is a tough customer so respect for sure. Bleacher report ranking is equally as ridiculous - Darcy Hordichuk? Really? Wow. Should be in the 50's really, not 13 or whatever he got ranked. So warning stay away from that stuff if your looking for a history lesson. We'd have to get into the hundreds before any of Bieksa or Rypiens fights would register. Coxe, Fraser, Odjick, Kurtenbach, Brashear, Antoski, Snepsts, , Williams, Delorme .... McAllister would be the leagues heavy right now....Don't think people have much of a clue how tough it used to be. So would Stajonov. So would probably another dozen guys. Momesso would scare the tar out of Wilson. Neely lol. He'd make his face bruised up. Leagues nothing like it used to be. Schenn is a throwback and for that i'm grateful. But let's not get carried away. Wonder what Biestra would think. Maybe we should rank the top 25 fighters. Maybe in the off season. Coxe. His two fights with Probert are still considered the best all-time. We're close ones too. Or maybe the top 25 fights all-time. This for sure, barely moved the needle. And if we do this, consider the quality of competition. McAllister did just fine against two goons Belak and Parker. Used to be there were 20 or so power forwards in the league that were scary. Now? Do we have any really? No Tochett's, no Shanny's. No Neely's. No Kevin Stevens's .... man Lindros would be scoring 140 points and destroying guys all over the place. Iginla was probably the last one.
  22. I'd say two weeks. Green won 2/3 his last games. Actually would say more like 4-6 weeks. Team needed time to acclimate. A massive roster change. No pkers. EP and Brock were shadows when they came in ... whatever off season training they did it wasn't enough.
