  1. We don't know that. The Sedins signed a 4 year deal after a couple PPG seasons.
  2. Nobody knows what was offered. Just a ton of supposition.
  3. Yes. Miller could be a 40 point guy when he's 35/36. Or maybe when he's 40. Who knows and who cares. Let's just enjoy his freaking amazing season on the way to 100. Let's worry about tomorrow at the draft.
  4. Swiss-Army knife. So a good compliment to any line. At his peak that will be in the top six. Hopefully that means he's in their sooner then later but for sure see that happening. Best part about him, he should be a great middle sixer... as his floor. And late in his career a great compliment in the bottom six. Some guys just play the game the right way all the time and thats what we have with Podz. He's a puck hound. He hits. He's tough along the boards. And he will contribute on the score board all the way along. And i think he's got some clutch in him why i bring up Claude Lemuiex. Has some pest in him too. Won't be long and players around the league will keep their heads on a swivel. Mr Game 7 might also be something we can hope for. Look the guy has played most of the season. He's a rookie. Playing in a much better league then the KHL and absolutely doesn't look out of place. And he's getting his groove on down the stretch. At worst we have a 15/15 bottom six sort/PKer. Think what we have for sure, is a 20/20 guy who when he's 25-32 might push 30/30. Nothing wrong with that.
  5. Yep. What was his high water mark again? 72 games i think without looking it up, but he gave Salo a run for his money, and so did Edler really. Guess a lot of that has to do with not having anyone else and overwork (not Salo though - guy was made of glass).
  6. We have full control over Miller next year. Keep him. 32 teams. If we have some magic make it work. This team has some magic - rinse and repeat. I for one, am stoked Alvin is taking his time.
  7. Brock lol. Not happening. He's either going to sign a 4-5 year deal at a whole lot less then that - or end up with one or maybe two years at 6.35ish. Or maybe we just let him walk. One of those 3 things.
  8. Yes one thing - we had toughness up the ying yang, but not close to enough skill to compete with the guys in the 70-80's...we had the best balance ever in the early 90's...and came oh so close. Then could have been an honest contender if it weren't for Cloutier ... still kept pace with the toughness well enough as well...then toughness left the league quickly after the lockout. And we have what we have. A diluted product. The league is bloated. 32 teams. Too many by about 8.
  9. Yes and to me that a bunch of BS bull crap. Don't care if we were Dallas and that's why we got in (as in we were on the other side of it). Shoot-outs and 3 x 3 shouldn't be weighed so heavily. Zero incentive to win in regulation. Gimmicks (shoot out) and training drills ( 3 x 3) shouldn't determine rankings in a team sport. Total to ridiculous. Bring back the tie game. Or give 1.5 points to a OT win/SO and .5 a point to the loser. Or throw away 100 years of stats and incentivize it 3-2-1.
  10. These guys. Damn they look good in those jerseys. Going to take some magic just wanted to add some good mojo.
  11. Dallas is too far ahead. Our best bet is LA slipping and somehow passing Vegas. I mean there are a lot of variables. LA lost Edler and Doughty..and Vegas is going to flex their muscles for sure. Pretty sure our only chance is to win all but maybe one game.
  12. Sure hope so. Podz looks to be a Swiss Army knife sort of guy. Also a glue guy. That's something. Has a little Claude Lemieux in him which i really like. Clutch. Difficult to play against. Hits like a tank. Makes one drool thinking what he could be like when he's 25-32 doesn't it?
  13. If you have the skills on the point work with it. Quin is a great passer ... OEL with his experience seems to make a more tricky and unpredictable PP though. That said, right now, we shouldn't complain ... the last 22-23 or so games we've gotten deadlier then any other team in the league. On the power play. Nice to have options.
  14. It wasn't "impossible". But a tiny little bit of context makes it obvious doesn't it. Markstrom was injured. Demko wasn't playing great in his absence either. Brock was injured ... we were slipping and falling fast. Even WITH the "mighty" TT, what did we win? Like two games with him on the roster and Brock and Markstrom out? Over a 13 or so games... wasn't Tanev was also out (like usual) near the end? I'd bet we wouldn't have made the playoffs without Covid. That was where the team was trending. The delay allowed everyone to come back. Then we started doing our thing. Bubble was great for team building and not forgotten. Last year covid also screwed with things. Team was on the ride ... 8-2-1 or something and clawed their way back. Then the rest happened. Revising what occurred is kind of mute. We should be happy we have Demko. He's becoming a top ten goalie in this league and that's all you need to win a cup.
  15. It wouldn't be the worst thing would it. OEL does have a better point shot. One could argue Myers does too.
  16. Last year he was very good for us. Was creating some games when no other forward was doing much of anything. That's a short term memory there. Yes this year - bad bad bad Brock.
  17. Yes that's a concern i didn't even think of. Ugh hockey talk gets real. I think the KHL is going to take a big hit too.
  18. Ok. Well for a rookie he didn't do so bad did he. Podz didn't make the all-star game, legit invite, be their MVP, and score 29 goals...injuries for sure derailed that. Don't need to argue about this - get your not a fan. I would be happy to place a bet that Podz won't have 248 points by game 317. He's got 20 his first 71. And know it's not all about points. It's awfully hard to score in this league. One dimensional or not, Brock has had two very good seasons for us, two ok ones and one bad one. But let's throw him into the dumpster. Edit: How does 10k sound? Put your mouth where your wallet is. If Podz is going to be a PPG player, surely he will catch up? 71 games - 20 points. He's got 246 games to catch up. AND has a 20 point head start. That's 266 possible points ... care to place a bet?
  19. Umm. Yet Brock came in, blew the doors off - was a Calder runner up and your constantly dissing him. Guess for you it's about the next shiny new toy until it isn't. Podz is awesome - he plays the game the right way and is a valuable asset for sure. Maybe he does have the talent to be a PPG - for our sakes i sure hope he is because that would be like found money. Think he could be the perfect compliment to EPs line ... in that case 60-70 points is a possibility. It's not easy to score in this league. To me, his absolute ceiling, would be the Russian equivalent of Brady T in OTT. Or a Claude Lemieux type. That's it. Edit: Sorry about the plug on Brock. Podz looks to be a good secondary support player. 20 points in 71 games doesn't scream PPG. He's developed enough as a 20 year old prospect, that he can play the NHL game and not hurt but add to the win column. That's his strength. You need guys like Podz to win playoff series too. What is expect is modest improvement the next two years, then maybe a breakout. Best thing about Podz is he doesn't need to break out to have a long NHL career. Brock on the other hand, is pretty useless as a bottom six player.
  20. I know people have roasted Ferraro - because of his mouth, but if you've seen him with other teams his mouth is just as active. Was a very good player himself, knows what's he's talking about. Might be in the minority here, but i like both Kelly Hrudey and Ferraro. When Don Cherry left the game a massive hole was left as far as colour goes. And SN did a pretty bad job of their hires compared to TSN as an aside, especially at the start - a talk show host? Really?. Kypreos looked like he was constantly constipated. Duthie, McKenzie just a level above really...we were spoiled. Ferraro and Hrudey kept things light enough and added colour until the real champ came in which is KB. Sure these guys have personal biases that come out. Ron McLean was ok about keeping Cherry in check but that was about it, find him unsufferable at times, but even him - it's sure fun to see KB wit just tear little slices off. The banter is way way better with KB. As for Hrudey - i've always liked him, both as a player and as an announcer, hope he's around for a long time yet (and is he an alien? doesn't seem to age). Says it how it is. He is from EDM, and played against us in the old Smythe, so sure he's got some biases but he's not a TO blue blue blue dork either (or if he is he keeps it hidden well enough). On that - our very own coach is. Anyone notice his regular comparisons to the Leafs? I have. He's a maple leaf fan and sure he will be cheering them on this Spring. Bruce is awesome and no big deal. Point is all these guys and gals have their favourites. They are supposed to be impartial. But that's impossible. They are also fans too. And have their personal favourites. Look at Cheech. I bet other fans watching our feeds must find it a little tough at times. Back to Hrudey, 50% of the stuff out of his mouth is about goalie stuff which is fine. He's passionate about that. We have been blessed with our own homers as well over the years. And some of the best ever in the business. Friedman cut his teeth in our circuit. Jim Hugheson. Aside from McLeans rant on Burrows, the rest is forgivable.
  21. He gets top six minutes with minimal second unit PP time (Puljajarvi). Middle six isn't a bad comp either, but he's getting 16:20 of ice time ... mostly 5 x 5. That's 2 minutes more then Miller was getting in TB AND he was part of their first PP unit. So second line minutes is what he's getting. As far as production goes - 27 EV points ... not terrible. Maybe 30 by the end of the year...his plus 19 is impressive though and maybe that's not a bad comp for Podz. "little things". That's second best on their team. I wouldn't expect Podz to be a 60-70 point player - to me that's not his game. 20/20 isn't out of the question, and a valuable guy you can add to any line. Zach Hyman is probably a better comp.
  22. Thing is Alf, Demko has been very good for us - comparable stats to Markstroms best season with us. He's younger, costs one million less, doesn't have the injury issues etc, and is a much better goalie then Markstrom was at the same age. Much better. And Markstrom was injured that year twice. And most importantly, teams could only keep one goalie, the return for Demko would have not been a Horvat. At best maybe a McAan. Late first. Any other year i'd probably agree with you. Edit: Schneider was a proven goalie. Top five at the time (which you pointed out). Demko had THREE stellar games. I remember Boucher rattling off 5 shut-outs in a row. And Hammond winning his first 23ish NHL games for OTT. It's a fickle position. We took a modest risk in signing Demko - but he for sure has the possibility of becoming a goalie who will surpass all but Luongo, maybe even him IF things work out and he re-signs. As far as Tanev yes we should have signed him. We could have traded Brock and signed Tyler i suppose, but wow imagine the freaking out over a move like that. Didn't have the cap space.
