  1. Sedins didn’t lead the teams until Naslund left ... and Linden was on those teams too. His first 79 playoff games he scored 80 points ... too.

Roussel is still on the books for two more years... means we’d be paying for him for four so no thanks. Pearson, Bear and Sutter ... and even then no thanks for buyouts. Trade Pearson - play Ferland and Bear and Roussel...edit: see you might be meaning after this season. Guess we’d have to wait and see how things go. Pretty sure we could find a taker as long as remains healthy ... useful player.

You were much nicer then I was - agreed it’s not that easy. Make a spreadsheet folks. Once you include everything these guys would have to sign at discounts bigger then I think are fair market value (see above) which is a lot less then some think already.

As had already been pointed out that won’t work. If TT gets signed we will need to trade Pearson as a minimum- I could live with that as he’s a modest upgrade. Plus either Bear, Roussel or Sutter. I also wonder given the flat cap what TT would actually get in the free market. Why should he make more then Neal for example. He’s never been a first line guy. Personally I’d be shocked if he gets five at this point, even on a one year deal. People have to stop looking at what he did the first 5-6 games and look at his career averages. Three seasons at over 40 points and one year with 31 goals (3 with over 20). How on earth does that make him a 5 x 5 guy even without Covid? With Covid and a flat cap I doubt anyone is going that high. Better off going after Hoffman or Dadanov at that price. Remember last year Gardiner was supposed to make 6-7... turns out nobody wanted him and he settled at 4 x 4. Also feel Tanev is in the same boat. Nobody wants a vet who can’t stay healthy - bet in the open market like Gardiner he’d have a hard time finding suitors for any sort of long term deal. Part of me wishes we’d just let all of these guys go to market and then come back with their tails between their legs - because if they read the CDC their heads would be way too inflated. See Markstrom 5 x 4, Tanev 4 x 1 or at most flat cap x 1 and TT 4.25 x 4 at best. In other words the CDC for the most part is grossly over estimating these guys value. Before and after Covid. Tanev I doubt would get a deal over 4 anywhere else. Markstrom is the only one that MIGHT be in a position to cash in but GMs would be wary given the small sample size and his age. Maybe he could swing a 5 x 5 deal somewhere at best. TT? To me he’s like Silverberg was - useful and a playoff plus / but not a first line guy. Capable for sure - hot and cold too. He could just as easily become another Sutter or LE type as a good signing. There I said it. Beware what you wish for.
  5. Gotcha. I don’t think LE should be moved down or sent down or whatever either unless someone can push him out. Might as well play him - but do get where those folks are coming from too. Chances are higher he’d consider retirement playing in the AHL...if there was no AHL season then I guess he’d get his cake and eat it sitting at home in Sweden or wherever. Hopefully he plays well for us until he’s done - that’s about the best we can realistically expect. Our fourth line is monster ... Sutter Beagle LE or McEwen or whomever, that is for sure. Team needs to go deep this year - that isn’t outside the realm of possibility - the deeper it goes the easier it would be to trade Beagle, Roussel or Sutter without it becoming a cap dump scenario. It’s possible we play with a shortened bench next year too. Wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened in the NHL and we aren’t the only team in cap trouble over the next year or two.
  6. Ok didn’t see this ... yes exactly. The further we go the better our chances of unloading a contract or two without any consequence to our future. Believe your right that we’d have to get to the 3rd round - and hope that Sutter and Roussel or Beagle are big reasons for that (which they’d almost have to be). Heck who knows maybe LE too.
  7. Winning likely means his veterans on one year deals stock goes up - the further we go the higher their stock goes. Best case scenario for this team to unload a couple of contracts in a way that aren’t going to sacrifice some of the future. If Sutter is a beast - or Roussel a pest-beast ... Pearson too. If we win a cup then nobody cares what happens next as mission accomplished ha ha.

Every single placeholder will be done in two years, many will be done next year. If he’s guilty of anything all it is was the timing of when the youth would be ready to start taking this team over (one year wrong). Still have to ice an NHL team...can’t ruin every prospect by playing them at 18 and to his credit after trying that once with JV every other top ranked guy was developed properly. OJ was a mistake - should have went for a different defenseman. MT would have been great but then the trickle down might mean no EP and most definitely no QHs so I can live with that. Plus he still might make it (doubtful as an Edler replacement but factually if he wasn’t injured he’d be right on track to join around the same time Edler did - some bad luck there for sure injuries wise). Think JB has done enough to deserve some time to see this through and to see what he can do with a better team (which under his watch has been created). Ahead of schedule. Just read an article how his team is ahead of schedule written by an Eastern Biased source. We just have accept and expect a hard year and that we can’t afford certain luxuries yet (TT). We will in the near future though.
  9. Like your optimism. You make some valid points . To me the two things that stand out the most are the very good youth in the roster and about to come up and the overall depth. We won’t have both these things for maybe a very long time (only the Linden teams had as much depth ) - so hoping for good things this September. No matter what we still have to other side (youth) for the next 2-5 years .... so hope folks don’t go into panic mode if things don’t go as planned. To me the cap is the biggest constraint. Any team would love to have LE on their fourth line but not at 6 million. The next two years could go either way (playoffs or no playoffs) - but once we are over that hill watch out. Plus it could still go very good for us just as easily as long as the youth movement keeps it up .... can’t see that not happening either. Our defense isn’t up to snuff but our top 16 is lights out - we have goaltending and our defense can and will be addressed once cash is available.
  10. You bet - like Red Skins - Eskimos and pretty soon the Blackhawks. You know because it’s so offensive and all. After that we will be next. How dare we make a Haida like art logo without written consent from every single person that was here before me or you or anyone else. Traumatizing for sure. Next NYR because you know Chuck Norris and every other Texas Ranger must be so offended that they would have to balls to name their club after them. Same with any Knights of old and Vegas. Then finally the Kraken because the Norwegians must be pissed they used their folklore in an entirely different ocean system and all.
  11. Watching him beam positive thoughts and accolades to JB for signing Myers at a great cap hit last season pretty much sealed the deal for me - even at the draft I could tell he was rooting for us too - didn’t like the pick - but also explained why which made sense from his viewpoint but if he didn’t care he wouldn’t have said sh!t about it. He’s got Canuck blood still in veins and won’t be rooting for anyone else if we make it past Calgary this year.
  12. Careful what you say. Brian was absolutely supportive of his son and a huge advocate for tolerance before it even became a thing - and the NHL and hockey universe is still a little backwards when it comes to homophobia despite appearances. Brendans dying wish was that Brian and Kevin made up - and he called Lowe right away and it stopped that entire media circus. Lowe and Burke hugged on TV the next time they met after Brendan passed and are apparently good friends now. It just goes to show that these guys are human and personally in a sport that is often too stiff I welcome some humanity to it. So what he’s divorced- he’s been through a lot and had a lot of tragedy and success in his life. Can’t be easy constantly being under a microscope. Bet a lot of us would have done a lot worse under the circumstances. He’s still around - still working and still one of the better hockey people we have and his knowledge of the sport is at a level I could only wish to acquire. Without his abilities and background we’d never had Bure (even though he found the document that said he’d played enough games and was fair game - but then advised Quin as his right hand man not to pick him as he was “that’s a small body gentleman, a small body” ha ha. Deep down I highly doubt any of us has the proper knowledge as to why he’s divorced and that too personal and has no relevance to the thread. Losing his son changed him I’d say that though. And he stood by him like a great father the entire time despite all his bravado and testosterone.
  13. Said before they came out that no way they could make an actual Kraken without it looking like squidward. They were smart not to create one on their logo and go with the letter. Not sure if it’s underwhelming yet but kind of think it might go that way long term ...
  14. I can see some simalarities with their uniform and the WCE ones .. the blue is so dark it would look black-ish on TV back then - and the neon blue turned purple instead would make it even closer . Their “navy blue” is pretty dark. I get what your saying AJ though and also like that they used a colour that isn’t close to anyone else’s in their logo, anchors and accenting. The red eye and stripes are very clean too. It’s pretty good actually. Edit: the biggest problem I had with the Canucks change back then was it was so completely different that they paid zero - absolutely zero homage to our past. Didn’t help that Messier was associated with it either.
  15. That’s a pretty good representation- probably what Dumb-Nuck and Tiger-Hearted see when Fin walks around ..
  16. aGent I can agree to that. Still prefer the older look. To me that meant Canucks more. And adding Messier to the mix didn’t help either.
  17. Fin for a mascot is fine. But that’s about it period. Those black uniforms looked way way better on our young guns then the colour change plus the army green stripes on the sleeves they brought out this year. Players fans - non- fans and media agree ... yet we just keep rolling out the same thing each year ...
  18. Let’s hope it looks like a skate going really fast downhill...
  19. How would anyone know it was an Orca? Make it black? It would just look like we copied it. I would love me some spaghetti skate and try to forget any of this other stuff ever existed.
  20. Yep. Argh taking a crap while trying to look fierce in a nothing to do with Canucks tradition other then getting branded by a corporation sort of way. Would be like taking the Detroit logo and turning it into a pizza. Most folks I know who were around at the time know what I’m talking about - not all but for sure most (some preferred the new look). We had a very unique and identifiable brand and ruined it. Bring them back for the 50th and everyone from the players to the media to fans who were never around for excited about it...polls still show the Orca behind the skate and the original one but yet here we are. Buffalo got rid of the buffaslug, NYI got rid of fisherman guy. We stayed with our constipated Orca. The team never looked better in then black skate uniforms and I preferred the home (white) ones! Ugh. Our 50th uniforms were underwhelming to say the least - and the Orca has never ranked high even during the Sedin peak years. Bet the “S” with a red dot will beat us out next season or whenever the pro designers do their thing next. Have a mag ranking the top fifty hockey uniforms all-time (done by pro designers and fan polling) . The only Canuck one that made the cut was our skate sweaters. Hard not to wonder why - Linden/Bure/McLean inspired a lot of folks. And this was maybe three years ago. Dumb Nuck might say a lot of things - but killing the Orca seems harsh (id keep Fin and make the Orca the third uni’s) and going back to the skate would find a lot of positive reactions league wide. Seems like we are stuck with it. Probably one of the stupidest things this organization ever did. Fans don’t like it as much. Any fans. Boston also got rid of their Bear logo ... because they actually LISTENED to their fan base.
  21. Yep they really really wanted us to re-locate and thought of the Seattle fans of the time that were hoping some recognition ha ha. Change the neon blue to a purple scheme and they almost nailed it. The blue is so dark it’s almost black ha ha. Like the anchor touch - does homage to the Mariners. Funny thing is Seattle is not really facing harsh pacific waters - yet they’ve gone with this theme they are like some Atlantic cities that are. Even LA and SJ are more situated for open waters ... islands and large land masses all around no deep waters off shore. Krakens actually is a Norse - Viking mythological creature that lived off the coast of Norway and around Greenland. Makes more sense that an Atlantic coastal team would take up that name. Shows the irony of the education level of the folks down there that voted on the polls. Would have been more authentic if they went with Seattle Pigeons, Gumboots or if they wanted the ocean theme - Gulls or Crabs ha ha ha ...
  22. Nothing wrong at all with their look and colour scheme. They’ve done their research that is for sure and separated themselves from the SJ sharks and the Vancouver Canuck/Orcas as far as logo and colours go. Their logo pops so definitely will be interested to see what their full uniforms will look like. Orcas eat great whites livers - we won’t have to worry much about Krakens (giant octopussies) because they simply don’t exist ha ha. And if they definitely do not near Seattle ... Krakens is better then salmon so at least they didn’t sh!t the bed on that one. A rivalry is starting - and expect it will be a good one.
  23. Back in the 70’s you could to get a seasoned vet at 20. Potvin is a prime example - stepped right in and changed that team his rookie year completely. However it’s never going to happen as a judge changed all of that because of linesman taking them to court and winning the right as a draft eligible (get sent to war) voting adult he and everyone else for that matter was deemed allowed to pursue their career rights the same as everyone else. Taking away one year of earnings is no small thing either. It affected everything (going from 20-18). Potvin lost two years of NHL money - he easily could have played at 18....same with Dionne, Lafleur, and a whole lot of others. Most times a player is sent down for a year or two of development at least, but there are also a couple players each year that come in at 18 and kill it. WG started at 17 (of course he’s an extreme example) in the WHA and could have in the NHL too...at 18 he tied Dionne for the Ross (in less games). Crosby ... Ekblad (won the Calder too)...yeah there aren’t too many examples more are like Patrick, Hughes, Kakko, Stamkos and Thornton then like Crosby, Hawerchuk and Barrasso...but there are definitely enough of them that can come straight in and at least manage a bottom six role.
  24. You could always hem the sleeves back to exactly where your want them if it’s very close. Wouldn’t be perfect but one inch wouldn’t be too bad as pretty there isn’t any detailing there... could get it done professionally... especially if it’s already close in the chest as the next one might be to tight and then your back to square one. Would cost around 10-15$...
