Let’s not forget that Bure was so talented that he’d easily be able to get in there and add to the washing machine cycle. That said I tend to agree that his talents might be wasted on that line - H would be looking for Daniel too often and that line needs a guy to get the puck (not that Bure was a slouch in that area - id pick Linden out of R wingers/centers to do that job). He could finish too and sure he’d be a PPG plus on that line and he could take draws...insert Ronning at center to take over his role and cut someone else. Also Mogilny Federov Bure was a line (and possibly the best junior line ever) - sure Mogilny is more then up to the task to play the left side ... something TSN didn’t consider.

He was a fun player to watch - had wheels - and went to the gritty areas (Gelinas). Delmore is part of one of the most iconic pictures of our first run .

Vote Murzyn (again), nominate Hlinka, Boldirev, Reinhart, Mitchell and Blight ha ha ... ok will start with Blight looks like he has the best chance to get in this time.. Murzyn is 31st in games played and tied for 4th in plus minus...played on both the good and the bad teams of the 90’s...was only a minus once in his career (-1). If Tanev gets in at 40 he should be in too, held the same job (top pairing) for longer then anyone in the entire league while a Canuck and he wasn’t by default either (Lumme/Murzyn was the longest pairing in the league in the 90’s at one point). Keep saying these things - he also had around 8 fights per year - against some very tough players some of whom would clean Wilson’s and Reaves clock - always to protect his teammates and his goalies. He wasn’t my favourite player but he was a mainstay for most of a decade and at this point anyways he definitely deserves to make the top 50. Edit: Also a big thanks for AJ for taking the time to do this - look forward to doing it again in five years or so - will be interesting to see where Horvat, BB, EP, QHs, Markstrom, Edler, Tanev, maybe Miller and If maybe a new or recent face (Pearson? TT, Podz?) end up then.

It’s early yet to know if the two countries health care systems is not going to get creamed (again for some state’s)...for sure it could be organized and all those associates shouldn’t have too much time social distancing the games. If they do go ahead I’d be surprised. It’s not hard to charter planes and use the same flight staff - personally I think that it’s a must that teams finish out the schedule against the teams they originally need to play - which would include those that are mathematically eliminated.

Buffalo lineup looks better then their overall record ha ha...St. Louis current team or the one from the last decade or so will definitely be looked back with rosy thoughts...Perron, Tarasenko, Peitrangelo, Parayoko etc...probably O’Reilly and definitely their version of Dryden/Roy. They’ve been a top team on and off for quite awhile in the East, paid their dues and had one heck of a second half/run last year. Yeah hate to say it but we are a little like TO that way - Clark, Gimour, Teeder, Horton, Conacher, Bower etc. Sundin was their longest serving Captain and leads them in all-time points etc but was ranked 10 by THN below a murderers row of original legendary original six stars...feel fortunate for the team we have had though lots of heart.
-
Good points ... PHI obviously would make our team look sad - that said I wonder how ST. Louis and Buffalo would stack up against us? I’m thinking maybe pretty even with St. Louis and we might spank Buffalo depsite Hasek and the French connection line.

Parise’s Dad and Dave Gagner are the biggest names missed but I’m very impressed...they had Mike Ribeiro just ahead of him given he played his best hockey their scoring 407 points in 461 games (LE has 357 in 501)...it’s sad but I’d have to say that LE is the most disappointing player after Mark Messier (who had two very good seasons just before we signed both full seasons well over a PGP and one with 48 goals). Seems six million dollar men come with baggage or something ha ha...so please don’t sign Markstrom to 6 x 6 or TT to 6 x 4 or something like that ha ha. edit: And yes absolutely if your a forward and you’ve played 20 years for us and your PGP is below LEs then you better come with one heck of amount of intangibles to be considered in the top fifty given the competition. Brashear isn’t really that far off and he did a lot of other things for the team for many years. And I wouldn’t think to nominate him despite that. And as an aside - it makes me warm and fuzzy inside to think that LEs 28th given who we have around there that deserves the honour. TO’s list is surprisingly empty of top tier all-time talent .. although their top 50 is extremely impressive given who’s in between 40-50...Ian Turnbull at 47 wow. We stack up decently - but also are shamed by some expansion teams from around when we joined (PHI) and two of the WHA teams.
-
Way to go Fraser! In case anyone’s wondering how LE did in Dallas - THN ranked him 29th best all-time...ha ha .... his PGP is higher then Cookes...just imagine if he finishes off his contract - has some playoff heroics and ten years from now with his 500 ish games played indeers him enough to get nominations then in a re-do ha ha ha.
-
It’s never ever going away. It’s ok. I’m not a fan either but I’m it’s better then the original black purple red mess that we started with.
-
Cool. Can’t wait to see a vintage mask with black red and yellow all over it ha ha. It’s simple ... Markstrom is definitely the goalie of the future and the future started 18 months ago. Like a brick wall. Reminds me of a book i read in grade five about a fat kid that nobody liked until they put him in net and there was nothing to shoot at...James and the Giant Peach author...at the time I thought it was a great idea - and now we have our very own monster that nobody can score on. Because he’s huge and he’s very good. And he’s got swagger now which was missing early ... sign this brick wall already - 6 x 6 just like LE...but unlike LE he won’t disappoint.
-
I don’t mind their selections...but one has to wonder IF they took the honourable mentions and inserted them into the lineup and removed the lowest handing fruit (which I agree would be difficult to determine) what that team could do. A ton of heart in that group.

Their defense shutdown pairing is suspect- better with one of either Murzyn or Snepsts (following the rules that is). As far as all-time no matter how many games played then Reinhart definitely gets in too. Otherwise it’s pretty good - although like others have stated the Sedins would be better off with a different winger. I’d put Linden on their wing (which follows their rules) and insert Ronning somewhere to make up for that which would mean a tough cut. Playoff stats matter too and both his regular season and playoffs were top ten. Would also give Quin the head coach job - a monkey could have coached our prime Sedin teams and done fine. I bet he would have done great with that team (Quin). No coach in team history was loved as much as him by the players - and that’s the best coaching style these days - when players are willing to go through walls for your captain and your coach - the results speak for themselves. Which also why both Linden and Smyl deserve that honour too (Captain and alternate).
-
Scott Walker and Antoski weren’t here long but it’s funny how some players have more of a lasting impact then others. Walker gets extra props for creating a rift with Keenan and Burke - you know we had to protect the great Peter Zezel instead ... helped speed up the process in getting him the heck out of town ha ha. Antoski was our answer (for a short while) for Sandy McCarthy in CAL (Gino’s buddy) at least for a short while and very fast for a big man too...not as effective as say Lappy in 2011 but still iced for most of 94. Great list Biestra it’s been a lot of fun strolling down memory lane with you and AJ and the rest of the CDC participants.

Congratulations Lanz...voting Murzyn...nomination Pederson

How will the NHL treat conditional trades in the 2020 draft
IBatch replied to Ray_Cathode's topic in Canucks Talk
Yep. Last year it was unite the Hughes brothers or get Kakko at all costs..before that trade everyone for Dahlin, the year before that all-in for Patrick or Hirschier. It’s really a lot of hype. Lafrenniere and a couple other guys look to be stars ... same like last year. And again next year. -
Best of Defunct NHL Teams (Very long read)
IBatch replied to -AJ-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
If you had to create an all-time team - no doubt he’d be a third or fourth line center with all due respect to his peers aka Yzerman, Messier, Francis etc...he was an absolute beast before injuries took a toll. -
Ahh. I’m talking about the 70’s and 80’s. I’m sure by the 90’s both parents and male children’s constant complaints against buying them for them finally clicked.

62% of this vote at the moment has never had to walk around in grade school with a boner OR had their sweat pants pulled down with it without their underwear infront of their favourite girl in grade 2-6. With or without a boner. Seriously folks they are called sweat pants for a reason and if your not sweating in them when I was a kid at lest - you were arguing with your mom as to why there was no clean laundry and you had to wear them to school. I don’t know ONE male kid from school - that didn’t have a boner in class at one point or the other - and how dreaded having to wear sweatpants to school. Nowadays it would be considered lifelong trauma
-
Ha ha. Hope your wear underwear - because when I went to school it was fair game. Sweat pants was like an invitation to have your pants pulled down to your ankles.
-
So you’ve never been pantsed - or had to watch a buddy or yourself go infront of the entire class and solve a math problem with a pre-puberty can’t help it boner?
-
I will reply for my entire generation (the male portion). Sweat pants suck for two reasons - one the inevitable spontaneous boner in grades 2-6 when you had to stand infront of the class and show how to do a math problem - full-mast (plus all the times you noticed a fellow class mate hunched over his desk more then diligently working on his art project or whatever) - and if you kept wearing them past that the stupidly easy pantsing target you’d become in middle school. So no - nobody should wear these outside of a gym or the privacy of your own home. I’m convinced some of the ant-bullying campaigns started as a result of sweat pants. Ha ha.
-
You’re absolutely correct - especially in one thing where playoff or fringe playoff teams like ourselves will now almost all be completely healthy where as down the stretch both sides of the above were hurting or not hurting which definitely would have affected the actual standings. At the very least the league needs to play equal games before making a list of playoff teams. Which means we get four games or so with teams that are also in our situation. If say they go to only 72-73 games then some teams will have to play teams they wouldn’t normally have to play again which also puts and asterisk on the season. IMO they should choose non-playoff cities so there is no home ice advantage. When the Oilers won their first cup they drove around NYI hotel and wouldn’t stop honking their horns - and for that year only they altered the playoff schedule to save on flights and to this day the NYI players say it wasn’t fair (and it wasn’t - they aren’t the only sore losers in Stanley Cup history and they have a better reason then the refs to blame). So yes I’m agreeing with you - no matter what happens playoffs or no playoffs this year will go down in history with a big asterisk. The same way any goalie that played for shoot-outs deserves ones too. Luongo, Lundqvist and MAF also don’t deserve the same respect as Cujo, Belfour, Osgood, Sawchuk, Broduer, Roy and anyone else who had 400 career wins post shoot-out. Changed the subject but as far as asterisks go that’s the biggest failure in the history books do far. Well maybe everyone who is living through this deserves a bit asterisk too. You and I and everyone else on this site and in the world today too.

Players have already been paid for the entirety of this season including playoffs. So really they owe us fans and the owners to do whatever is asked of them safely to finish the season. Any pending UFA has just had three gigantic pay-days a lot of which would sustain an average family comfortably throughout the pandemic until vaccination. Should we worry about UFAs who won’t get paid come July 1? No. Not at all. They will get their contracts when things are back to normal for undoubtedly. What’s the league minimum again? Hmmmm. Poor MT and BT all they have to do is post stupid things they have to do with their big huge head dad. Whoops sorry. They aren’t close to UFAs yet. Sorry for the sarcasm but really is this even topic worthy? And is it really more “far more important” then draft day? Not to me at least. Some of those kids signing right away would have really changed their families fortunes. Instead we have to wait awhile as fans to see who goes where and for how much overpayment.
-
I thought they’d just put faces on the seats like aprons or something. Much better idea. Greenscrean the entire thing and it might look like NHL30 or something like that. Towel power and all. Ha ha. Really I hope that the players families are at least invited to watch. Can’t think that with smart head that some fans can’t be invited and comply with social distancing. edit: if we can stand in line to get groceries and if we can stand in line to buy them then surely they could modify arenas so every third row and fifth seat could have a fan. Would look just like a regular season Flordia, ARI or CAR game right?

Deb your one of my favourite posters - like the Mom of the CDC and what you says matters. A super fan and very obviously a lovely person too. And I’m not siding with Leipsic one bit but do feel justice has been swift and even cruel given the crime. My buddy Pats (kick-boxer great fella) is a cool customer and doesn’t get upset about trivial things (not that this is trivial). We’ve had discussions about what bothers him and what doesn’t - and for me at least there is no surprise that it bothers him more that what he’s called keeps changing then being called an Indian (which doesn’t one bit bother him - but it’s offensive now nonetheless so sorry ahead of time if I shocked some white folks for saying it). Gen x and earlier grew up playing Cowboys and Indians and it was fun to play either side - and I preferred being an Indian and now that I know better wish we all were like them...maybe the best civilization the world has ever seen as far as sustainable lifestyle goes and much can be learned from them. How we see possessions and land ... silly really. Leipsic’s life is forever going to change now - he’s definitely would rather get kicked in the face then what’s coming. Strange thing is when I bring this up with my much younger sisters they get upset with the idea that Cowboys and Indians is awful and distasteful and wrong thing and the rest of it. But when I talk to my older native buddies they laugh it off and are more concerned with regular name changes and lost culture. Wonder how many people responding to this are First Nations. As white people if you’ve hurt or done something wrong then shame on you. But we don’t have to carry the shame for those that actually did the harm forever either. Yes it’s a touchy subject and sorry if I pushed anyone’s buttons. Just my two cents and again I’m not the greatest when it comes to sensitivity training because it never existed when I was in the work force.
