OK - Have some time to type out my list too (thanks again Biestra for spending the time to make yours) here it is and given this is somewhat subjective - eye of the be-holder - what pulled your heart strings etc. during your time as a fan this might have a bit a too heavy of a Linden teams flavor to some but personally aside from the early teams that couldn't gain much traction which as a new franchise is understandable and some of the 80's teams that toiled in the toughest division in hockey at the time - playoffs to me are given a higher weighting the regular season successes for the most part. NO teams played as much or won as many games as the Linden teams did period....which is why guys like Momesso, Murzyn, Babych, Courtnall, Adams, Lumme, and of course McLean, Bure and Linden get in maybe higher then some of their peers who played longer and maybe put up more points. The Sedin teams also get some love given they were they did better then any team before or after - and are the ONLY team ever to be first in goals, first in goals against, first in PP% and close to first in PK to not win a cup, they are considered the best team ever in the history of the NHL not to win...go figure ... the Sedins lose out on first place purely based on playoff difference against Linden plus how iconic he's become (and deservedly so) 1-10 1. Linden,2. H. Sedin, 3.D. Sedin 4. Smyl, 5. Bure, 6. McLean 7. Luongo 8. Naslund 9. Ohlund (what could have been without almost losing an eye?)10. Gradin (19 points in 82') 11-20 11. Snepsts (number two in mustache rankings) 12. Bertuzzi 13. Kesler (lets get these two out of the way - shame hurts their legacies with us - and their ranking) 14. King Richard 15. Lumme (playoffs give him a bump over the next three D's ...)16. Lidster 17. Ronning (best 2nd line center ever) 18, Kearns) 19. Edler (he doesn't belong ahead of any D's already listed) 20. Tanti 21-30 21. Burrows ( sorry folks too many great guys to consider before him - the Sedins were a pretty sweet assignment right?) 22. Boudrias 23. Bieksa. 24. Jovo-cop (best all around D ever length and lack of playoff success hurts legacy) 25. Sundrstrom 26. Lever 27 Adams.28 Courtnall. 29. Babcyh ( could beat all the above and below in bench press..a bit of a homer pick but mustaches rule) 31-40 31. Morrison (defensive conscious on one of our best lines ever) 32. "The Streak" 33. Mogilny (lack of playoffs hurt legacy...so does the "M" word). 34. "Strangler" 35. Salo (do people forget how many games he actually played for us over a decade? Hard to create a legacy from the infirmary...Edler and Tanev take notice a bit too). 36. Tiger ... any lower and he might snap! 37. Kurtenbach 38. Rota 39. Ververgaert ( the first Bertuzzi kind of) 40. Gino! Gino! Gino! 41-50 (This is hard now) 41. Horvat 42. Oddleifson (the first Horvat - solid playmaker - checker on forgotten teams) 43. Smith (best season ever with us - got us our first banner) 44. McCarthy (injury cost offensive defenseman cost us in 1982 cup run) 45. EP (moving up this list fast for sure) 46. Murzyn...the first Tanev -except face punched anyone who came near the net or bumped a player or goalie - the "Tanev" to QH 's with Lumme for a long time... 47. Tanev (after a ton of consideration decided to bump some down and one out of the list) 48. Hansen (sorry your the first to go down) 49. Momesso - (key ingredient to our best Linden teams kept Ronning safe and chipped in his fair share -great all-around player for us - moving him up the more I think about him) 50. Aucion had a solid career ... still has a couple team records - the timing of his career hurts legacy for sure. Edit: ha ha - I see I messed this up and am missing number 30...that gives me another player - will think on it and edit later. Edit #2: Rick Lanz is missing in action. Monkey Business indeed. Will re-do the latter part of this list at a different date - Good news is Horvat might move up into the top 30...bad news is Aucion you are now an honourable mention - and no way will I put Momesso out of the top 50...so have to think on this.
-
No monkey business indeed. That's a great list...Nice that we have such a great group of young guys that deservedly are making a top 100 list right now...some awesome names on this list after 50 too. As far as mine goes the top 20 only has two different names on it and the top 20-30 two names in the 30's and two of the guys in the 30's I have in the 20s...the 40's is actually close too only two names past the top 50 I have in the list (Aucion and Momesso at 48 and 50...had to put Momesso in because he was a very valuable member of the prime Linden teams, plus playoff games played and heriocs - and Ronnings bodygaurd) but he's right at the end and I haven't quite made my mind about it the order 40-50ish). You have Salo lower then me but a lot closer then where he actually went on this ranking...and I have Bieksa in the top 20-30...great list - thanks for posting maybe I will post mine when we get into the 30's.
-
Well if you find Horvat boring - and want to make him seem super interesting plus have them get a past Canuck - let's petition them to get Naslund on there and that snoozefest will make Horvat seem as colourful as Tiger Williams or Juice. I still cringe a little at the thought of post or pre or mid-game interviews with Nazzy - showed about as much emotion as oatmeal without sugar or milk win or lose.
-
Well said. Momesso is one of my favorite support players ever - mean mug - memorable moments both regular season and playoffs hulking tough middle six player (and protector of Ronning). Gelinas is a good example too - mentioned way early in this that he led the team in scoring one year in the dark ages, really was quite the player part of the kid line in EDM last cup and mentioned by Gretzky as one of the players he wanted to play with in Vancouver. IF this was a list of my 50 all-time favorites instead - both these guys would make the top fifty instead of someone from way back who's greatness to me might back in the late 70's early 80's might have been his stats on a hockey card or in my sticker books, plus how cool their hair or name was. Hansen played longer then most for us so gets extra credit - and had a lot of heart - but so did these guys you mentioned and some fought often and were better players. Honey Badger is a cool name - and like you there is no reason to criticize the nomination - its a testament to him considering who's still left plus who will eventually be bumped out as a result...noticed Murzyn and Fraser were at the end of your list...hard choices...
-
Hey wouldn't be too discouraged, it's pretty hard to deny that Hansen was an all-time great player top 50 for us - he for sure is. Just keep at it some other guys still waiting but not too far and he will be up- maybe even this time out. Rick Lanz is another guy that needs some love (and not sure he's been nominated yet)....Have both in the 38-early 40's range...we are closing in on that area very soon including the guys already available to vote on.
-
Sundstrom - nominate Williams...

The OP brings up valid points. Last recession people kept coming in droves and the players were protected by and immune from it, receiving healthy raises along the way (and having huge buying power as markets went down 54% over three years)...this time with the league already shut down and still playing their athletes their last three pay cheques - you have to think that the owners have been more then fair so far. That said they can't afford to do it forever - and your proposal seems more then fair given how most regular folks are hurting and wallets getting lighter has only just started and the uncertainty around the economy and social gatherings right now. One downside of this is those players that have received hefty contracts the past two or three years will be disproportionately compensated compared to those up for renewal - and the NHLPA might not have the stomach for that...instead they might rather just go for a roll-back and take their medicine based on the 50/50 split and hope that the same thing happened last time (salary cap going up 10%ish during a recession each year) happens again. Hard to tell really. IF this goes into next season you can gaurantee the owners won't want to be so generous and pay their guys when most of the rest of their organization is laid off and won't be paying them until the season is up and running. Setting the cap bar based on the previous year seems fair to me - not as easily said then done...but it won't be the first time salaries have rolled back - there are good reasons on both sides to consider rolling back salaries based on the existing revenue sharing model some short term pain to keep the businesses healthy and not put undue stress on the organizations hurt most by this...people love their hockey but how many want to risk their families health to go see a game live when a vaccine is probably at least a year away still (and that's assuming it's even allowed at that point).
-
Well sh!t. I guess that was about the stupidest thing i've ever posted. Well - not really but it's a doozy!
-
Your dedication for getting Sundstrom in is awesome....should have made the list a while ago - same with Jovo (for me at least). I have a bit of a soft spot for defenseman...Babych I liked more then Jovo but am doing my best to vote with my head and not my heart ... doesn't always work.

How would Sedin point totals differ had they debuted in the "new" NHL?
IBatch replied to apollo's topic in Canucks Talk
It really is something only maybe a Marvel character like the magic guy that time travels could figure out. My hackles always go up a bit whenever its suggested the players today are "so much better" then eras gone. The Sedins after they lost all their support, a step and closing in on the rest of their contract ( a shadow of their peak to say the least) - were still putting up 50 plus points when wonder kid McDavid and Mathews were just getting started... The biggest difference between back then and now is goalie equipment, style and size of these guys (monster sized), and that the fourth line is no longer filled with hulking bruisers that for the most part can still play the game...that's about it. IF the Sedins can get 50 plus point with zero support - about half what the very best today are getting - what are younger fans that are babies now going to say about whomever compared to McDavid? Probably that no way he's as good as so and so....as far as speed goes...watch how they time guys now - and then go back as see if you can find video of how Bure did his laps (he lost and edge once and still made around 14 seconds and is still considered the fastest skater ever by most experts - the eye test is really all you need - look like he was shot out of a cannon - or sling shot or whatever and nobody ran to the net and used the boards to slow down like he did)...same goes with guys like Howe, Makita and Hull Sr (who is still considered a top ten fastest skater ever)...if Howe can get 40-50 points his very last season as a 50 plus year old ....against guys like Dionne and Gretzky..well yes he was awesome too..not to mention the historians that praise the original stars of the leauge and how fast some of them were - or how great they were (Shore etc.)....our bodies haven't changed that much in 100 years. The Sedins were unique all-time players in that they were twins that played for the same franchise for their entire careers. And they were stars for half of that and super-stars for two years when they peaked (and thanks to Crosby dealing with his concussions back then and Ovi not playing his best hockey they stole the show - and Perry - what a terrible pick for the Hart - one of the worst ever up there with Lidstroms last Norris)....100 points in any era is awesome - and they did that. So did Naslund, Bure and Mogilny. For those that think it's rather ordinary....well just go look at TO and find out how many guys all-time have had 100 points for them - as an original six team. Might surprise some that we have them beat. Edit: Won't drag this out either - but as my parting thought I want folks to consider this: NHL.com - who like it or not has some good hockey people that at the very least know their stuff (if they didn't no way they would be working there)...is doing a Power Ranking right now on the best by position since expansion or top 16 rankings..they did the centers first and recently did the goalies (Luongo made the list I think at 11 - have seen someone suggest he's top five - ha ha ha well thats a homer thing which yes I do understand) .. IF H. Sedin is such a great player and destined for the HHOF - you'd think he would make the list right? Art Ross and Hart trophy must matter for something right? Unfortunately for him there have been too many all-time greats in that time period...and he didn't even get ONE vote. Nobody voted for him. The last person to get in was Lindros at 16....Thornton didn't get in so that tells you how great this list is. Gretzy, ML, Crosby, Messier, Yzerman, Francis, Clark, Trottier, Federov, Hawerchuk, Lafontaine, Malkin....those are off the top of my head (read it about an hour ago) can't remember the rest - but it's easy to see why. The list of guys after that also got votes makes me also realize how many great players we've had from 1968-2000ish....a murderers row of incredible players....again if a 38 year old Yzerman can clean the clock of a 20 year old Sedin on the ice....hmmm...and all the guys he played against over his career including when he was 20....not hard at all to trace thing back is it? And BTW - Gretzky received every first vote and ML received every second vote. -

Gary Suter on Gretzky in 96 against the US knocking him out of the series....Kariya was a tough player himself - coming back from that hit from Stevens, obviously hurt but still playing took some big heart. I know the Marchand thing was brutal - and really hard to watch at the time or stomach (wish they would have done something) ... the Rome hit changed that series in a bad way for us. The Sedins took their abuse like champs - and took a lot there first few years to the point where they started to doubt they could make it in this league - a lot of skilled players benifited from the lock-out and the rule changes - they were definitely were part of that group - but at the same time matured and learned to take their lumps and use their sticks too (hooks and slashes were part of their game). Canadian hockey is my preference - but there is no denying their greatness as both players and Canucks. Naslund was one of the best during the dead puck era - strangely his prime wasn't extended after the lock-out - part I guess was age (he was 27 when he really broke out)... They would have done well in the 80's - but how well is impossible to determine. Maybe they would have quit pre-insitgator. Not so sure how they would have done when PHI was going around beating the crap out of everyone and anyone ... who knows maybe they would have fought themselves - wouldn't stand by myself while my twin or brother was getting maimed by Shultz or "Machine Gun" Kelly (watch some video of those animals - never gets old ha ha). I suppose they would have been star back then too - but would have had to learn to get some respect - by liberal use of lumber or have a Semenko type on the right side every shift. Bench clearing brawls were common enough where I'm sure they would be fighting whether or not they wanted to at some point. Gretzky was asked a month ago if he thinks fighting will be gone from hockey eventually and his response was it already is. " players don't fight anymore, when I grew up people fought at 15, 18, 20 - now its not in Juniors or college hockey - it still happens every now and then " he shrugs and then says again "its already gone from hockey"....so from his viewpoint the era the Sedins played the last third or their careers in was tame - and now its all-star gamish. -

OK now that I saw your enthusiasm for it - and because I know how much you love the Sedins - I changed my mind and take it back (above post). The Sedins would have retired with around 2500 points had they played from 79-95... -

The game in the 70-80's was much rougher, unless they were so good they became untouchable (Gretzy) they might have been murdered too. Jagr scored 123 in the middle of the dead puck era - and in his prime...WG his last year he was done for sure - (dead puck era) the few before that he still managed to lead the league in assists in both of them...and score 97 and 90 points on a bad NYR squad and also in the dead puck era. When most guys were scoring 100 points (stars) he was scoring 200, he finished ahead of the second place in scoring an average of 50 points each of his Art Ross years - and beat second place by 70 or more in points 6 times (and thats with Mario in the mix for some of them). If you take .880 save percentages and make them .910 that means 3 more goals for every 100 shots or 30 more for every 1000. SPs aren't so far apart as they were in 1981 and 2014 (peaks are shown here - now its closer to 20 per 100 and even less as the 90's went on)... Have mentioned this enough before....he made a mockery of the record books and the amount of star players back then in a 18-22 team league was pretty incredible. Yzerman on one leg was better then the Sedins when they came into the league - an he was almost done. WG had 200 ish more assists then Yzerman had points....Iginla was traded for Joe N. in the mid 90's and became one of the best players of his generation but couldn't keep up to an aging Joe N or a way past his prime WG .. Its not hard to take players from their 30's playing guys in their 20's an establish who is better - especially if the 35 year old is better then the 25 year old etc....So lets' not be ridiculous. The Sedins would have had a nice bump to their stats - maybe 10-15% playing in the 70-94 range....expecting him to rival Gretzy is hilarious. What i'd like to know is what WG could do today with no red line and a salary cap. He didn't have nearly as much to work with in LA and still did some great things..I'd guess instead of 200-212 points he'd be in the 185-190 range. His best season was a pee-wee - where he scored almost 400 goals. Nobody before or since did what he could do - he made hyperbole seem too modest. The most dominant athlete in the history of all sports for real. As far as speed goes - Orr is still considered one of the fastest players ever (top five) - maybe the third and fourth lines weren't up to par - but the stars certainly were. Coffey is top ten too..Federov...They don't measure the laps like they used too. Now the players are further away from the boards when they skate them - and get to start before the clock does. 13.5 is the new 14. Gartners time still hasn't been beat in my mind - and Bure who most rank as the fastest ever - because he looks like he was shot out of a cannon - ...and it's not like speed is everything - not even close - see Hagelin or Raymond...or Hedican. Or Wayne Gretzky. -
Voted Jovo - might surprise some ( going before Sundstrom) but I liked this guy a lot and had him on my list a while ago...the closest thing we've had to an all around number one who scored a lot of goals in the deepest part of the dead puck era for us - fought - hit etc. Few players went to three all-star games for us, even fewer consecutively - and only one represented the best team in the world at the Olympics (ok the Sedins did - but the seas parted for them in Turin - and admittedly that was one stacked all-time Swedish team) from our team.. Nominate Williams - and congratulations Butcher for getting in.
-
Ughh... you got that right. The tension as we watched our team slip away - mostly by one goal (and the odd EN goal) games was palpable. I really believed we would have turned it around in a great Canuck moment - then went on and really made it difficult for whomever we played first - maybe even won a round. Markstrom and BB getting injured was the edge we lost - and they were back or soon coming back for the final 10-14 games for sure. The most exciting season we have had in a long time. I've stated over and over again that both BB and EP are destined for greatness on this team - have made my peace with this season now am just hoping the next one isn't interrupted as well. EP is a special player. He never had a personal trainer or hockey skills coach - hes' 100% self taught the same way Lafluer was coming from a town where those things weren't available ... instead he had infinite ice time on his own to hone his skills - and the results are something new (which after 100 years is hard to imagine). Once his body catches up to his brain - the sky's the limit....never heard Wayne Gretzky ever compare himself to anyone before him...and doubt we will see anyone have the first three months he had as a rookie for a long time. ..... QH's....well the sky's the limit with him too. Coroovirus#Canuck Luck....at somepoint this crap has just got to change...#Otto kicked it in # Brashear # Bertuzzi # number 2 pick # riots # Please god let this stop! Ha ha.
-
The impact on the city had a lot to do with toiling for several years no doubt and what he did his first ten games was only one upped by what Bure was doing when he started despite the point difference. You could tell right away that Bure was going to the HHOF....best skater ever - including McDavid (and don't get me going about the "fastest skater" now they let them take a stride before the clock starts PLUS they do a lap further inside the rink - it's like cheating, watch some video of how they used to do it and it's pretty clear that 14 seconds is the new 13). Mogilny is one of a few guys to score over 70 goals in a season - and when he first came he was great. Faded quickly and was part of the Messier era which kind of ruined it for him - became a floater and Kovalesque way too quickly. Still its undeniable that he was one of the best talents to ever suit it up with us - arguably better then the Sedins and second to only Bure. QH's .... well awesome too. Let's not forget that BB also reached 50 goals faster then any rookie not named Bure too. EP IS hard. Two years in a row he started strong then faded over the course of the season. Larionov probably should get in before EP - but won't. Think he should be in the late 40's....and still he will bump someone out who's spent a lot more time with us. Like Aucion or Murzyn.
-
Hmmm. Well how many goals did Mogilny score again? How many guys all-time do we have that have beat 100 points? Mogilny is too high - I agree on that absolutely. But if we are going on 2-3 seasons we shouldn't sleep on Larionov or Tallon either. Better then most? Well on this team he's not as good as Miller or QH this year alone - maybe we should wait until he's actually done something ( im a huge fan and sure he will) Greg Adams, Ronning, Linden, Rota, Sundstrom, Sedin, Sedin, Bertuzzi, Naslund and of course Bure and Mogilny all have had better season then EP..and that's of the top of my head ... We can all see the potential but blow on him too hard and he falls over - I have serious doubts he'd survive when the Sedins had to - and of course before that when the regular season was called more or less like the playoffs are now. Thank god we have him - hes perfect for todays hockey - and I'm sure he will move up the list quickly...but he has to do it. Nedved was also super hyped - the next thing etc. Let's wait before we crown him "better than most guys on that list". Good grief.
-
Couldn't have said it better if I tried - and I have almost every new thread. Oddleifson is almost a perfect comparable minus the recent C given out. A two-way forward, checker, mucker who also contributed on the scoreboard. Lever waiting this long is a bordernline travesty - and guys like Sundstrom have seen little love (except 189lbs early - since his voting strategy seems to have changed to pick one of the two or three front runners that are most deserving to keep the list from getting out of hand - same as me and maybe a few others from what I can tell). Hoping our pretty regular posts on taking a step back and really looking at our entire history is helping swing votes a little. My list Mogilny, Salo haven't got in yet - same with BMO and sorry Horvat you haven't done enough to be ahead of these guys yet. Sundstrom, Kearns, Jovo, Courtnall, Adams, Babych and Hamhuis are involved in some great Canuck moments...Horvats greatest moment is taking a ridiculous amount of face offs and winning most of them one game this year.... and what about Kurtenbach? Williams and Odjick are wild cards as well. Definitely fan favorites and great Canucks with some epic moments. Gino's very first game going against two of the better enforcers/fighters in the league - his time playing with Bure and getting endless passes on two on ones (and missing a lot ha ha), and for the you-tube generation St. Louis vs Odjick never gets old. Williams and his goal celebrations....and the fact his record for most PIMs is now as untouchable as Broduers wins or Orrs most productive seasons - or Gretzky's bazzillion records too. In 200 years he will still be on top - and he played some of his best hockey with us .... and had over 1200 PIMs in 4.5 years....Is what Horvat has done so far better then that? If we are voting for futures BB and EP and QH should be on the list by now too....but that's not how it works and how is Tanev even a top 50 Canuck? Hard to explain that one. Who's out then? Murzyn - no way he should be...Aucoin? Well both toiled on bad teams .... how many PP goals did he score again one year? Rota? He's already getting love ... which he should.... Smith? One of the best goaltending seasons we've ever had....Larionov? Hmmm. Sure there is a case for him to be in the 45-50 range...but he's been on the list for a while AND is has also got votes pretty much right away too. Anyways - again you said it best - I can't help getting a little fired up. Tanev before Murzyn OK...I guess I could live with that. But before Kearns, Jovo, Babych, Butcher, Hamhuis and Lanz...maybe even McCarthy? Come on. It's too bad Horvat has had to spend the first 1/3 of his career on a bottom team. Wait five years and I'm sure he will have leapfrogged right into the mid-teens IF things go well and we have some playoff success. For now though - too many other guys yet to get voted in, and a few yet to receive nominations.....
-
That would kind of disregards defenseman achievements and players that were great but didn't play long - like Coutnall - especially playoff hero's. Horvat will get his due in time - and believe in five years the list could look very different now that we are close to getting back as a threat to get in the playoffs and have a young core that will only get better. Plus even going by this alone there are others on this list that scored more points and aren't in yet - including Sundstrom who's 91 point team record lasted until Bure arrived, Adams who had both great regular seasons and notable playoff moments, - the "Streak" and going by this still not nominated Vervegaert should also be in right about here (which he should not - the hyped power forward was pretty good - on one side of the puck at least). Don't really mind at all that he's on the list - but he should wait a while yet (same with Tanev) before getting votes over who's available now.
-
Kearns and nominate Butcher...nice to see these guys getting their due and to see Babych make the list!
-
Whoa slow down their buddy. How did it go from paranoid media is out to get me to "folks that had difficulty passing and English proficiency exam" - and earlier talks of Hitlers regime...hmmm smells a bit funky to me. Let's not generalize - we - us - everyone - folks - blah blah blah. Bored and don't often go to this part of the forum as one thing I do agree on is there is a lot of BS. And no hockey. Speaking of paranoid. Hows this for a take. Wuhan had a biological WAR game just a few weeks before this started. AND a base in Hawaii was closed down by the CDC in September - army biological site. Two people were hospitalized with the Corona virus way back then. So maybe the Iranians are right (the middle East has blamed this as deliberate and from the US) and this was a timed strike by the US covert ops - like Call of Duty 12 stuff. Did you know that there are at least 5 strains of the virus -China has one, Italy has one, Spain has another Iran has one too. And that the US has all five. Did you also know that the one in Iran is far more deadly then all the other strains? ( Great idea to kill your future enemies - but it backfired....or did it?) Since we are being dickea4ds about this - did you also know that African Americans are far more likely to get this and far more likely to die then anglophones? Ha. So take that corona virus thread. Back to who's better - Lever or Kearns.

Used to pick up whatever hockey rags I could find in the mid-late nineties and one I really liked was Tuff Guys - a magazine that ranked the enforcers for four or five years ... Brashear was named fighter of the year after his break-out season. Even before when he was in MTL I noticed this guy - he was laying some serious beatings on guys before he was really noticed later in Vancouver.. from 95--96 rag he wasn't yet ranked in the top 25 but was given "golden gloves" recognition and was considered a reluctant enforcer early on and criticized for it. He's quoted back then " I wanted to study guys before opening up because I don't want to get beat"... pretty hilarious considering he went on to lay waste to the entire field - worrying about losing maybe helped him from getting dropped early but he could also skate and was a decent junior scorer and teams valued that back then (both toughness and ability to play the game). From a technical standpoint he was the best fighter we've ever had, and the only one who had the heavyweight belt for a couple of years before Laraque came up and most would say took it from him (although head to head they split ties and decisions)...he fought Probert more then anyone else - and Probert really was never worse for wear but couldn't keep up to his furious left jabs and crosses.. Odjick was good too - all offense but was never considered a top ten heavyweight (13 was a highest rank he got - back in 95), very good for sure but lost his fair share....and when Brashear arrived his days were numbered. His fights with loudmouthed Domi were epic- kept on beating him but Domi kept on mouthing off. The other enforcers considered him the cream of the crop for most of his career - and its not often those guys play over 1000 games....beat Boogeyman, Boogard, and Orr late in his career... One tough S.O.B. and he earned his reputation playing for the Canucks.
-

Bieksa and Burrows were my favvorite two Canucks from the Sedin teams....That said there are some guys behind him that arguably were greater in Kearns, Lever and Jovo, ...and maybe Sundstrom too. That said he almost exactly where THN had him (23) .... maybe 2-3 spots out of whack but nothing egregious. All-star selections and team records (that later get beat) matter in these things. He was a great Canuck for sure - a huge part of our cup run - a memorable OT goal....and even Conn Smythe consideration after the third round. Should have beat out Salo for sure...and Mogilny too. But really hard to put hiim ahead of anyone else on that list except maybe BMO.

Hansen will make the top 50 - and deservedly so - Hamhuis too...and yes he was the better player although greatness can be pretty subjective. This is going to be quite the ride to the end and think the heart string players will start to pop in a lot more now nominations wise which is ok. Five years of Curt Fraser - a heart and soul 25 goal scorer who had a great playoff run to the final for us and one of the most feared fighters in the league - an original Canuck draftee who was good enough to end up getting traded for Tanti....he's a guy i'd like to see get his due - same with Suitcase Smith - who had his best season for us, putting the entire team on his back on the way to our first playoff berth in 75. When we start getting down to guys who burned bright but weren't here that long both Rota and Larionov also deserve some props. Losing Larionov was the difference between the cup in 94 for sure. Hope that people look behind that stats and spend some time watching video ..... Oddleifson...our original Captain too...Ververgaert....still some great guys in the weeds - and only 15 more of them can get there! If your doing your "research" on Ranker....ha ha ha. Well that's hilarious as LE is 51, Vrbata is in the top 40-50, EP the top ten, Horvat 13 and BB 15....need I say more. A lot of great options left - look forward in seeing how this all plays out and will try to bite my tongue but no promises ... both these are deserving ones...but still we got some others (Babych 7 years - Butcher 10 - Williams 5 but an Icon) that need their due still - Babych is way up near the top in playoff points and scored a huge goal in the 94 final for us...more points in less games then both Salo and Bieksa... Edit: Speaking of feared fighters - if you like enforcers Brashear had the best Canuck season of any enforcer ever - where he led the entire league in PIMs, set a new team record and fought a league lead 26 times and won every single one. He became the leagues best fighter while here, beating Probert, Mcsorely and the rest of the old squad - and all the new up and comers too. Could play the game ok too - taking a regular 3-4 line shift and scored a modest amount of goals - definitely not a goon. The McSorely incident might of soured things - but thats not on him really....the best fighter in team history. He toiled through the dark ages - too bad he didn't stay for more of the up years - but he protected our guys well and added a lot of intimidation during his time with us. Maybe he doesn't deserve to be on this list - and I won't nominate him - but he wouldn't be a guy I'd be upset to see get some love. Was here long enough...and made our bench feel a few feet taller I'm sure.
