  1. Monkey business indeed. Thanks for the Babych support, definitely deserves a spot in the 30's and isn't up yet. Same with Butcher - and the evil that has yet to be unrectified,,,well those three have to be the next three to work on - can't vote them in when they aren't there yet - and still there is some pretty good choices on the board .... when Edler goes top ten, Mogilny and Salo top 20....guys get pushed out. Think soon we will really see some egregious face palming worthy nominations....and since some that are in already - a few for awhile - and have no business getting votes before any of these three and are getting votes - this part of the list is going to hurt our feelings ha ha.
  2. Voted Lever, nominate Babych.... Razor thin at this point with the guys that should already be in in Kearns, Lever and Jovo - nice to see them lead with the votes.
  3. Get the Horvat nominations - he's 20th overall for forwards in games played and 21st in points for forwards and should make the top 50. That said Oddleifson and Ververgaert - both these guys made solid contributions to their respective teams too ... one was a hyped power forward - the other a solid two-way checker. Not saying they should make it in before Horvat - but am suggesting it's a little early yet. Same with Hansen - still have Williams, Oddleifson, Ververgaert, and Rota to consider as well for forwards - plus Butcher, Lanz, Murzyn, Aucion and maybe Halward, McCarthy and Lindgren to consider on defense (and of course the leagues strongest man Babych whom I nominated this round)... In five years I'm hoping guys like JT Miller, Hughes, EP, BB and maybe one or two other players on Horvats team get some love in these rankings - but for now we have to consider past greats and ranking them based on their body of work - regular season and playoffs - and how they matched up to comparable players in their era's etc. Hate to see Cook come in and bump any of the above out but am expecting it. Hansen deserves to make the list too - but we have to be careful not to push too many guys down the list or eventually they get bumped out. Curiously our democratic fan vote has four guys in the top 25 that didn't make it in THN's book from three years ago. Kearns went 22, Lever 21, Sundstrom 25 and Jovo way up at 16 (which I get no other defenseman played in three consecutive all-star games, was one of six canadians chosen for the Olympics as regulars - where he tied for the team lead in points plus was the guy who made the saucer pass to Sakic for the gold game winner, if he played his entire career with us he'd be top five) ... a few guys going too early pushed the line up. Its' all good .... personally im very interested in what our fan base thinks - and get that a lot probably weren't around watching the 70-80's team.. but also that most on here are fans of the history of the team too and hopefully look past the stats when they can. Gino, Butcher and Williams were great Canucks - looking forward to seeing their names in the rankiings. And all good with the Cook nominations when they come...just keep them away for awhile.
  4. This one was tough. Voted Ronning...close behind is Jovo...and Kearns and Lever and Sundstrom...all five of these guys have a good case for the top 25 so went with my favorite player this time. Nominate Babych....Edit: For those that remember - like Linden Dave Babych seemed to have an extra gear or two come playoff time - he is fourth all-time in D playoff scoring (one point behind Ohlund who was also money come playoff time) and ahead of Salo in 14 less games and Bieksa in 11 less games played...his regular partner Diduck ( for most of his playoff games) is also top ten..these two were hard to handle and helped form a very solid top four during the prime Linden years. Also on Ronning....he's still stop ten in several catagories -and number one in playoff GWG's at 7....enough to win almost two series.
  5. Can we get call it now? Last run 52 votes overall - this time through Lidster with over 40 already....and a commanding lead. Love KB and totally cool with just automatically putting him in right after Lidster....when first time posters are coming in and adding votes it stinks a little of duplicate voting...
  6. Don't worry too much, it's hard to call that a logo and not just a uniform... that said the proper all-time logo appears to be shining through - with the same colours the big V had...not sure why the OP didn't have one of his fave orca's up against the flying skate in all the choices - probably because it just has to have a Orca entertainment US Washington Seattle based branding against the best logo we've ever had - and the best uniforms we've ever had. I'm used to it now - but by the reaction of the players that got to play in the black uni's this year - and the reaction of the fans - and the reaction of virtually every media source - and by the reaction of the Sedin era teammates that didn't get to play in them despite asking to do so (Bieksa and his mates) - this poll was a foregone conclusion. Given the approval rating and the constant changes this franchise tries to make to keeping re-branding the Orca...not really sure why they don't just give in and go back to the ones that the team won more playoff games in and that league wide was and still is considered that best of the bunch. NYI tried their terrible fisherman deal - and Buffalo strayed from their awesome logo and went all buffaloslug - but eventually made reparations, not sure why the Canucks are holding onto and Orca that doesn't have anything at all to do with the franchise other then corporate branding and new ownership - plus signals the start of one of the worst parts of our history in Mark Messier and then Keenan coming. If it was up to me the Orca would become the third jersey (for awhile) - we would go back to the black skate unis and white skate unis - and keep Fin as our mascot. Maybe Seattle will make it easy for us and call themselves the Orca's - which if it wasn't for Quins absolute adamant refusal - we'd already be calling the Canucks. People need to realize this - and honour our traditions. Yes the WCE and Sedin teams had their moments...and one of our traditions is changing things up - its' never too late to correct a wrong, and this was a big one.
  7. This entire hypothetical likely has a lot to do with the "trial by fire" initiation they had starting their careers in the deepest part of the dead puck era - where holds and hooks were commonplace and not called. Part of their stickwork likely occured as a result of this - trying to find the line - which was pretty accepting for all little hooks, slashes and holds, and only the more blatant ones were called. The other thing to consider was they did get murdered often - and to survive the rodeo they certainly had to defend themselves and a six foot piece of lumber was the best equalizer for things like this. Other players were aware they were not complete push overs and would have to risk getting a high-stick or a slash to the hands if they played them too rough. And they definitely were not the only ones doing this. When the new rules became enforced things got much easier for them - and the rest of the skilled players and they shined pretty bright for half their careers as result. If things stayed the same I have doubts they would have evolved into the players they became and instead we'd be talking about how many points they would lose - which I believe would be a lot higher then what we are considering they would add to their totals. Probably career stats in the Linden or Naslund range. Fortunately for us and for them after two years of cracking down the game went an entirely new direction. Hitting was also a casualty unfortunately....and eventually the enforcers died out too...those stick infractions I didn't mind so much - the hooks maybe a little but definitely not the slashes - the only thing that did bother me was the lack of reaction from one brother if one did take a hard hit or a dirty play. If it was my brother I would have lost it every single time. Probably a cultural thing - or maybe something they had talked about and came upon a mutual agreement about. Keith would of had a target on his head every time we played CHI for what he did....
  8. Hi AJ - time to call this one? Please consider respecting KB and moving him into 24th place with an automatic bye...his knuckleball from the blue line to nip the resurging and arguably better team in SJ game 5.....was legendary and just like that maybe he should get rewarded instead of going back into the pool for another go. I actually like KB more - my favourite Sedin era Canuck...that said have to admit Lidster edges him out......both these guys are more then deserving a top 25 rank. Have some nominations coming up that i'm looking forward to getting too...cheers edit: Lidster now has one less then half of all the overall votes from last time...
  9. Absolutely. Or Babych if he's into that sort of thing. AJ - looks like Lidster now has almost half the votes of everyone from the last round...two shy. And 50% more then Bieksa....think we can declare sudden death OT over with a glorious goal from the blue line from Lidster.
  10. Agreed - think that Lidster is going to get his due on this one now - started slow this morning but is starting to take a commanding lead...KB deserves an automatic slot at 24 ... hard to believe Lidsters team record has lasted as long as it has - over three decades now. QH's looks to have the chops to break it but still has to do it. Both guys were leaders on their respective teams, but only one was given the C even if it wasn't for a long time. Ronning should be battling Sundstrom or another former great Canuck D in Kearns or Jovo for 25... two great centers battling it out with two former great D's. I have all of these guys in the top 25.
  11. You mean these aren't hot spots? Or number of flights with snakes on them? Airports and flights are the probably the highest areas of community spread - guess Trumps advisors haven't explained that yet - or maybe he put his hotel money into the air industry and just won't accept losing that too ha ha.
  12. Never understood how a certain portion of the fan base early on was all over Bieksa whenever he made a mistake....that team would simply not be the same without him - and a lot worse off. Even ANA fans loved this guy late in his career after he lost a step. Superman punches helped that of course. Sad to see him go, one guy I would have been happy to see retire as a Canuck even though what we needed was picks/prospects from that core late in the game.
  13. Maybe to speed this up AJ you could put both these guys in as 23/24 - tied so 23, 23, and then got straight to 25. Sudden death shoot-outs - not a fan ha ha. Ties are ok. Just a suggestion. Think the Ronning votes will go to Lidster - and the Jovo votes got to Bieksa ....in the end when they all come in it will still be close.
  14. Kevin Biestra probably nailed this one - around 20 more points their first couple of seasons. It's a difficult question because they really had to work on their games to deal with it - and to stick with it (in their own words they themselves weren't sure they would make it early on) and that extra punishment made them almost impervious of getting beat on after the lock-out. Another poster mentioned speed was never their game either...which became increasingly hard to watch late in their careers when they lost a step. Wonder how many extra points Mogilny and Bure would have too...no red line and what they could still do in the start - mid and peak of the dead puck era despite obstruction was pretty incredible (especially Bure). Break away after break away and 70 goal seasons don't seem like a stretch. Zubov was a perrenial 50-55 point guy during the dead puck era (and think he led his team in scoring two years before it started early in his career) - then exploded for mid 70's post lockout as a 37 ish year old....others like Visnovksy also had their best seasons in their 30's after toiling in their primes in the dead puck era so this subject is definitely valid. The Sedins really didn't play much of their career in it though...just the first few seasons. Hard to say for sure. Look at Naslund....he did ALL his damage in the dead puck era ( same with Bertuzzi) - after the lock-out they faded fast. And Ohlund and Jovo didn't explode for a bunch more points either - although Jovo PPG stayed at a high level throughout his career. Think maybe the Sedins would have between 50-100 points given they were top level guys - but thats about it.
  15. Mel Bridgman...involved in some of the best line brawls in the history of the game. Google Jan 6 1979...enjoy Bridgman beating on Hart - who high sticked Bridgman for stitches a week or so earlier. PHI paid a high price to get Bridgman and he was not a bust - earning the C ( Clark became an assistant coach while still playing and choose him as his successor)for five years and scoring at a .80 or so a a power forward and PHI had their best regular season under him and went all the way to the final before getting ousted by the budding dynasty that also ousted us...(and stuck behind Clark for a lot of his career as a center, did not break out offensively until he finally got some PP after leaving PHI) Also had three consecutive fights few months later in his career in another line brawl..against the same guy....(Jensen vs Bridgman all 3 rounds) went on for ten minutes or so - anyone who thinks Probert and McSorely who went at it for over two minutes ( was a great fight though) have the record for this sort of thing forgot about some of the things that went on before that....ended up the C for some terrible NJ teams...yeah we had some aging greats have a turn with us near the end and he is one of them.
  16. At times both my brother and I questioned why Linden did not get more chances in the top six...he was still better then most late in his career - more reliable and better points per sixty etc while spending most of his time in the defensive zone... was painful at times. Great memory BTW - do not remember it myself but could see it happening. Ryan Walter also played out his career on our fourth line - a former Habs Captain ... that ended up as a defensive specialist. ... The best part about the end of his career - he came back where he belonged.
  17. Another guy on this list that was nominated a while ago but isn't getting his due respect. Played for a decade - close to .50 ppg as a defenseman and averaged around 23 minutes a game....two-way great for sure. Yet Salo beat him out somehow.....FYI he was ranked 22 by THN - one spot ahead of Bieksa - and two away from Edler...who somehow made it all the way to the top ten....this list is a bit scewed towards what have you done for me lately. Next time I will nominate Aucion just to f#ck with some guys ... who was he again? Well he was one of our better defenseman that bridged the Linden and WCE era.. and still has the record for goals in a season at 23 - and one year tied the record for PPG by a defenseman ... tying all-time top five great Denis Potvin. More then Orr, Coffey, Borque....but one less then Sheldon Souray who later beat him. Just kidding on the nomination...kind of. Is what he accomplished greater then Tanevs contributions - debatable. Kearns deserves a spot in the top 20-25 for sure. He is just another casualty of three or four guys that have already got in that are quite out of whack as far as greatness goes. And really I cant comment too much given I was more into Star Wars half way through his tenure and what Wayne Gretzky was doing - and how cool Bobby Clarks hair was - or how cool some names were like Pete - Peters..that said the information is available - and he was our original best D - that did not debut in the NHL until 26...yet still played a decade. Who else on our team has ever done that..
  18. And that is his happy face....it's either him or Momesso for the best resting bitch face in the history of our team.
  19. Thanks for the support 189lb enforcers? .... I absolutely agree.. Of the current list only a few wouldn't already be on my all-time list - and a lot of them in the top 20.. I know you have been voting for much deserved Sundstrom - will help you get him in when I can. Tanev to me is a mid 40's guy. He didn't make the cut three years ago in THN book - I suppose the extra time has moved him in but not if it means Butcher or Murzyn get bumped out for me at least. Booo indeed. I've been trying to vote for the few that have had a chance of getting in that are the most deserving - Boudrais last couple of times even though I feel Lidster has a case to be ahead of him - and that a couple of guys are very close as well - such as Jovo, Ronning and Sundstrom. Don't mind the Bieksa votes - curiously THN had him right at 23....but behind quite a few of the guys still on the list. Babych was one of my favorite Linden era defenseman - just a solid second pairing guy with Diduck especially his entire time with us. Lumme and Murzyn might have been our first pairing but throwing out Babych and Diduck against the best in the league was also common place. He wasn't used like a offensive defenseman anymore - but still to this day is the only Canuck d with a hat-trick. Probert going flying behind the net when reverse hit by Babych is cemented into my memory banks....was a little like Tim Horton was back in his day - strong enough to crush a guy in a bear hug - and didn't have to fight because nobody wanted to risk their life - and he didn't want to hurt people with his otherwordly strength. Legs like tree trunks they used to announce - and was so strong he could hold onto two guys one in each hand. Wonder if Murzyn will get in too...he better. Heart of a lion...not a good fighter but always dropped them if there was a code violation and willing participant regardless of reputation. And despite his slow foot speed regularly had one of if not the best plus-minus on the team. Tanev also is all heart - but he has to wait his turn...Butcher before him too of course.
  20. Solid nomination...The "Strangler" was a respected player around the league - and good enough to get some great players for us when he was traded...top mark in the black eye rankings..both giving and receiving..
  21. Vote Lidster - nominate Babych.
  22. Yeah - at least go Slegr or something...or if you want to go really abstract then Harold Druken or Bill Muckalt or that Carbonaeau guy that was captain of a roller blade team (remember him anyone?).
  23. That would be pretty strange. I suppose social distancing could be waived in athletes cases just to give people something to enjoy during these strange times - and not too sure what sort if the revenue from TV would cover the re-hiring or paying staff required to make this work. Kudos to the owners if they agreed to this - and same to the athletes for obviously putting themselves and their families at risk to make this work...seems like a bit of a pipe dream at this point though don't you think?
  24. Absolutely - I get it. The players all got paid the rest of the their contracts but didn't provide the service - just throwing ideas out there. With everything that's going on they'd have to get on it before July 1 - or make some sort of decisions on what to do with this years crop of UFAs for sure. Postponing it for a little while a least makes a lot of sense - to have a better understanding of what impact this going to have on them long term and the cap etc. 50/50 split - the players all got their cheques but the owners missed out on games this year already...can't see them getting paid past this if no hockey is happening - and not really sure how they will set the cap next year and when UFA's get signed when this season isn't officially over yet. Contract's of course have time limits - but they haven't received the services for the past three pay periods - doesn't seem unfair to ask them to honour that all things considered - plus a full playoff season.
