(Proposal/Discussion) Value of Players
IBatch replied to NorthWestNuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Hall trade doesn't count - it was ridiculous then and still is now. Jones for Johansen is the go to trade - that said it's happened what ONCE in the past 10 years ... and he's a center so higher value. So extremely unlikely. BB for Dumba might work right now because both players have missed time and Dumba's below his career norm (stock has lowered). I 100% agree with the Demko trade, at least until the ed is over or he shows a lot of improvement he won't get us a very good return. The better he plays - the better value of course. Top D's and first line centers are valued about the same - some like D's more, some C's. Wingers unless they are elite like Panarin and Kane wouldn't get you one in most cases. BB is probably worth a good second C with upside, or a good 2nd D with upside - doubt he'd get a top thirty D, even though he's a top five R winger in the entire league points wise. We'd need to add most likely to get one. It's hockey and you never know, BB is a solid young player that most teams would love to have - his peak could be white hot (40/50 goals), - unlikely he gets worse that's for sure. He's 1-3 years away from his prime starting.... edit: For the record im not at all in favour for trading him. Especially for picks that's idiotic. He's got all the tools to be a perrenial 30 goal scorer. Second fastest to 50 on the club right? Calder finalist. A lot of HHOFers starting their careers slow, very few started like Gretzky, Lemuiex, Selanne, Crosby, Oveckin and McDavid. Thornton got like 7 points his first year and was ridiculed heavily for it, even punished by his team to do drills on his own. Rocket was plagued with injuries his first few years (just like BB). Lafluer often looked lost his first three seasons. What EP, BB and QH have done isn't the norm at all - yet here are discussing his trade value yet again. I get we need solid top four D. Myers has helped with this - Edler and Tanev are both playing more games then we've seen in a long time. Stetcher plays there we lose. OJ, Woo, Tryamkin, Rathbone, Rafferty (AHL All-Star) etc... have to think one of those guy will at least make the top four ... possible two. They definitely give the bottom pairings and 7th guy loads of options the next 5-15 years. Brisbois too. -
If we lose again then I'd expect more of the same on the CDC.

Correct. At some point something's got to give though right? Ugh.

Damn. Wonder who TB will pick with the 31st and last pick of the first round. Sure he will be better then Miller eventually right? Ha ha GCG! We aren't out of it until we are out of it. About as premature as the lad that made a thread saying we'd made the playoffs a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately that's what rising teams usually have to contend with. The silver lining is we have a decent prospect pool since that should add a couple roster players that will play well, and the core itself is still 2-3 years before they are all in their prime. That's what should push us out of the middle - ARI leaving and Seattle coming in should also make it easier (no way they do as well as Vegas did)... This is absolutely disheartening. The Canucks do this to us often enough but it still isn't easy on us fans. The last two games could have been wins quite easily - that also is promising and Demko had his best game since Markstrom went down. Miller is inspiring - need more desperation. Hope this makes them mad. Just need to pop off a couple of wins to get things back on track.... our home record is excellent - those games especially we need them. Two more games against ARI...huge games for sure. Hope isn't lost yet. No need to bring the tank on. -

Absolutely. 90ish points is the new .500 and with only half making the playoffs now it's usually not enough. Which is why I'm not sure if we win 8 of the next 16 it would be enough...throw in a couple OTL and yes probably is. Still we have at least a fighting chance, we aren't out yet - factually still a little better off then other wild card teams - that said, must admit I feel a little sick that we've blown things this bad - especially given Demko finally had a very solid game for us... -

Yep. Demko wasn't the problem at all. ARI is a very good defensive team ... their goals against support this for a couple years now. Ugh. Oh well on to the next one. Officially a losing streak. Team isn't done yet, still in a position to make the playoffs with games on hand - that said not sure even .500 hockey is enough at this point. Need a couple wins badly to get back on the horse. -
Staged fighting? I think you've watched a lot less hockey then I have. This was about McEwen trying to stay relevant - I'm sorry you and anyone else can't see that. I'm stoked we have at least one player on our team willing to fight to make it. Can't believe I even have to explain this to anyone. Way too critical. That wasn't "staged fighting". That goes to the last class of enforcers which McEwen is definitely NOT, and has been out of the game for years now.
-
No I didn't miss the point. He was saying this had something to do with the loss and I disagreed. He didn't lose the fight, he did fine - neither was hurt everyone's ok. Why make that a "turning point" in the game when it wasn't. McEwen did everything he could do to stay relevant - nobody else can even do what he can do - the fact that other guys took two stupid lazy penalties .... was that his fault too? Or maybe Domingues for letting the goals in was his fault too. Sorry I'm not buying it.
-
Here is the flame you mentioned. We lost the game game because of two dumb penalties. McEwens fight was NOT one of them. That's completely wrong target and is the same "think" that has become close to removing it from the game entirely (it doesn't belong in the game anymore). If someone was asked to write 100 most memorable moments the past 30 years - both Iginla/Lecavalier and McSorely/Clark fights would be in it. Proberts/McSorely too. Used to be we'd have 40-70plus fights per year, no big deal. Now we haven't even managed 10 yet and people are critical of it. Win or lose these guys are factually RARE now. Not talking about the one off "warriors" that hug each other and fall down. I'm sure TG doesn't see it the same way. The fight had virtually nothing about losing. Agree TD better be on today. His back-up outplayed him his last three games.

IF we're going there. Episodes 1-3 after waiting 20 years or so after Jedi.

More like Willie without the mustache. What's the point then ?

Or worse. Thinking you have enough coffee beans left for the next day only to find out you have maybe enough for one cup...so you scrape out some of yesterday's from the compost and add it to it. Plus you re-use the old filter because your also out of them. It's either that or a paper towel cone.

Sutter, Roussel, and Benn are the lowest hanging fruit for a trade. That said none of them will be that easy to move unless we make the playoffs and they are a factor before and after (and their value goes up). We might need to add just to dump them. I'd add Bear to that list but he has even less value, cleared waivers twice and definitely would be a cap dump that would cost us picks and or prospects to get rid of. Demko and JV have value, maybe a multiplayer trade where they take one of these guys and the return is small. I'm sure JB would love to add picks AND dump some cash. Won't happen without paying a modest price - or even a steep one. TD to Detroit might work - same with OTT, but doubt his value is very high until after the ED and some more improvement between now and then. Why would they do this when their own goalies have shown similar promise? What's his face in OTT just beat us right? Also as far as Holtby goes - highly doubt he's staying in WSH. Unless something happens and Samsonov derails in the playoffs - but even then he's way cheaper and they won't be able to compete with other teams looking to solidify their goaltending long term. He's good for at least 5 of a 7 year deal. When did 30 become so darn old in the NHL?

Ha ha ha. Get home about once a year and my 70 year old Dad is often on all sorts of crazy diets (Mom still makes all the meals)...and treats him like an addict when he's not happy about the bird seed salads and no gluten in his bread (literally Mom says he's addicted to food, and well I think that's funny isn't everyone?even if he probably is - must be Addicted to air too ha ha ). One day he eats a big breakfast, right after we go out to get some water for his cooler (no way would they do delivery, bad for the environment and the pocketbook - but still has to DRIVE to get it right)...we get the water and he's like "just a minute just going to check something at Tim Hortons" and comes back with two sausage breakfast sandwiches (he offers me one like he's doing it for me as a "treat" but he knows I'm not hungry and can tell by his huge grin how happy he is I said no) because they were 2 for 4$ and now he gets both. Have dozens of these when it comes to my Dad, nobody I know finds more joy in eating. (A few years ago he found and ate several boxes of chocolate covered granola bars while visiting our house and hid the containers behind the couch) And he's not fat or even overweight. I like the drunken frat boy reference. My Dad still has a big appetite but it's not what it used to be - and a few times the last ten years while visiting he's shown jealousy over younger people eating more (I find that hilarious)..have to wonder what it is we do that our kids find ridiculous. Maybe spending a lot of free time on a Canucks forum ha ha.
