  1. I had to read this post 3 times to figure it out. Was like "huh?" I thought Robert Downy Junior played Iron Man and who the heck is the Falcon. And then was like - that doesn't really make sense, RDJ looks off and the dude beside him looks small for his security. Then I had the "Ah -HAH!" moment. Popcorn bowl. Got it. Thanks for posting, and you did better than I would have.
  2. Tale of the tape once had Bieksa at 6'3" 225lbs lol...I'm not even sure he is six feet tall. Vernon was listed at 5'9 ... he's 5'7" (admitted it once his career was over). These guys don't look so big even on skates, once you go see them live. Demko yes he's a big tall boy. Who cares anyways, Taylor Pyatt versus Wendel Clark? Who you going to take. Chris Chelios or Bryan Allen? If they can play, then can play.
  3. Yep. Could see this team make some tweener swaps this summer or using them as add ons for trades. Both these guys could be traded.
  4. Myers to ARI? Well he's got full control. If he wants to stay in Vancouver, which why wouldn't he, all he has to do is remember grade two arithmetic and eliminate the teams that have the cap space for him when it comes time to put his 10 team list in. Then eliminate a few more teams he definitely wouldn't want to play on after that, there isn't many as it is that can take his full cap hit, and why would they want to bung up cap instead of weaponize it? That's also bad math even with the actual dollars saved. He's not going to ARI or CHI. Doubt ANA is his dream trade either. He wants to win a cup doesn't he? Myers has been playing some of his best hockey of late. It wouldn't shock me to see him traded in the off season, but doubt it. What we can hope for is both OEL and Myers respond to Tochett and his staff's system. Pretty sure this team can make the playoffs next year. That doesn't make us sellers. Don't see Myers going anywhere, unless we are a bubble team then maybe see a retention deal with Myers then. OEL ... i doubt he gets bought out this summer too. Not unless every team gets a freebie. Going to have to work with what we got. Do see a good chance we re-sign Schenn though.
  5. Actually think that JT Miller brings a lot more to the table than Kuznetsov. Only way i'd consider this is if WSH retained 3 million and took Garland back and maybe gave them second rounder. Not even sure i'd do that. He's not the same player he was when they won the cup. On a steady decline. Ovi's keeping his stats up... Backstrom is done. WSH going into rebuild mode, doubt there is much appetite from any team to pick up this contract other than his last year at the TDL a retention deal. Maybe i'm wrong and he just needs a change of scenery. But i'm pretty sure you could take Miller and play him with Ovi and he'd be getting a lot more points then the Ostrich. Teams committed with JT Miller. He's our second line center. All we need is a Maholtra or healthy Sutter type for our third line and our forward group is more than set. We can afford to trade a winger and not skip a beat. Focus should be on trading one of Brock, Garland or Beau. Maybe swapping some tweeners. And then finding that tough stay at home solid type. We are a Willie Mitchell, Maholtra and solid back-up away from becoming a legit threat in the West.
  6. How about top ten facial hair? Babych 1-5 Snepsts 6-10. That said let's do this! McLean Bure Linden Babcyh Ronning Jovo Ohlund Smyl Bieksa Gino Cant rank them 1-10. Also had another 5-6 close cuts. 5 if I get to keep the Sedins as one player lol. Snepsts and Butcher early favourites...Kesler or Burrows or Adams? Hard to pick one of those guys. I'd probably go with Adams or Burrows. Lumme too. For guys who weren't here that long: Gelinas Reinhart Larionov Walker Peca Mogilny Courtnall Mitchell Momesso Pettersson Edit: New team needs some playoff successes. Those are the most memorable ones. EPs won me over though, same with QHs, Miller and Demko.
  7. Let's just hope we are .500 by Christmas. Then go on our "usual" winning streak late in the season lol.
  8. My kids liked that show. I watched the original Lou Forrigno stuff. And was like how did his pants stay on! At some point someone should let Marvel know it's not realistic. Edit: Plus people want to know. How would his junk do against a tank shell or a heavy machine gun!
  9. Hulk is great and all. But let's get real. His pants would be off completely. Know how it works even after a heavy meal... He'd be doing this old Roman style "Mano da Mano" junk out. Also feel bad for that dude ducking back into the tank. How would he ever survive that sort or wheel go around abuse and throw out a the end when Hulk let go?
  10. Oh no! Delia got us another meaningless win... yikes. Broduer, Furh, Roy and Luongo plus plus used to do backs .. what's wrong with this picture?
  11. I assure you, the "ones" growing up in the Eastern part of BC, are not Flamer or Oiler fans, other then migratory Albertans and Ontarian's but those folks live on the West coast just not if not more then the Kootenays. And Vancouver Island.
  12. A couple things. The folks I know from the Kootenays are avid Canuck fans and most grew up playing hockey. Fanatical in high school. Revelstoke has changed, but used to be a gem - could see some Oil money implants there cheering for CAL but doubt many actually are full-time residents. Same goes for the Okanagon valley. 1973-2009 .. As for BC born players -Neely, Bozek, Walter, Ronning, Courtnall(s), Adams ... yeah sure they don't want to play in Vancouver lol. Quin sure brought them home didn't he? Also Morrison. Rota..Lidster. Hamhuis...Tambellini. Travis Green. Ferraro - where does he live again, as in after retirement? Some Kootenay guys in there - and also quite a few came when they had more freedom to choose ... Sure would have been nice to have Sakic and Yzerman. Instead we got Linden. Those guys childhood allegiances change... As for Livingstone. If he doesn't want to come so be it, not the end of the world. What a silly thread. Literally 6 of the top 15 all-time BC born guys played for us.
  13. Here's some facts too. This is the second year in a row it's happened. That's it. Both starts were polar opposites. Green was trying to put in a system. Most of those losses were one goal games, and we played decently 5 x 5 and the PP. Our PK stunk. Awful. This year the guys were blowing doors off at times, but also blowing big leads. PK sucked again. And didn't have good or decent goaltending. Personally believe Green overachieved with his roster or at least on par until things unravelled. Effort was usually not an issue. But whatever system he was trying to communicate wasn't working, at the end especially. Completely different team from the one he started and finished coaching as well. Bruce let all the steam go, and the players responded. But like media said during that winning streak, a team doesn't just forget previous lessons either - from Green. Bruce unleashed the offense...and Demko was very good. Even the PK was a respectable 11-12th under Bruce after bottom feeding. This year again a lot of roster change. And some bigger bites off the JB regimes elephant. The two seasons were very different. What these players do in the off season - and Tochett is going to be on them as his staff, hopefully helps come October. Bet the fans will freak out if we start 0-3 lol. It can't be judged until mid December. On the flip side I will always take a strong second half team over what we used to get from the aging Sedin core and several other teams. Iginla for example, was often a slow starter. Strong finisher. Willing to wait and see before calling it a pattern. Especially given how different the two seasons have been. The team knows it can win games and a lot of them in a row or in any given month. That's also a positive. So was covid, as far a building resilience goes. So was playing without Markstrom and Demko being lights out. All valuable learning experiences. This teams got the bones for a great culture. Let's see if Tocchet can achieve his goals with the team this summer - which is it's not a four month holiday.
  14. Podz was ranked 3ish ... and slipped to 10. Contract being his big concern. Players often don't work out how scouts believe, and same with the opposite. Drafting at 18 compared to 20 is a crapshoot. So you're right. And someone will be wrong too, likely several in the top 10 will be better or worse than the consensus views.
  15. All will be forgiven the Canucks come into camp next season with the mindset Tochett is selling. It's starting to feel like the organization has some alignment. Funny coincidence, EP talked about the team needing a better defense at the all-star break...and management went out and created that. Coaching these guys what it takes to win. Includes being able to take those hard minutes. Maybe this team is closer ... also get those that are worried about being fooled again. At least there seems to be a clearer path. Playoff reps are the goal. Kind of has to be at this point for these guys too.
  16. To the op's questions, the team already has a good idea what they have in Hoglander, are trying to unlock some offense - plus keep him off waivers. As for Demko - he's playing because HE wants to. That's what Tochett said, when asked - more than once now by the media. Same thing with riding his core horses. They want the minutes. The best D's... Stevens, Neidermayer, Lidstrom, Potvin, Pronger, Al Mac, Doughty, EK etc - regularly played more minutes than QHs has been tasked with. Half a game or more for entire seasons. He's giving the guys an example of what playoffs will look for them when it comes time. And showing them what level they need to play at consistently, to be great players. Don't mind that at all. A ton of goalies in the past wanted to play every single game. Only Furh and Broduer got close in the modern era. Aside from the olden days. Not sure but remember reading about 500 plus consecutive games ... Pronger did it for several teams in his prime. Sure this seems counter-intuitive - but I bet the scouting staff has several guys on their list that are interchangeable at 8-12 anyways.
  17. As for the OP. .500 on the low end, 7-3 on the high end. So 10-14 points. Would give us 81-85. Think we finish 10th and slip one spot. Edit: Just for fun. Imagine how it would be "so Canucks", if we go 8-2 ... Catch up and pass OTT (Chychrun is injured), pass WSH, end up with the 12 overall and win the lottery. The CDC would implode.
  18. Remove Miller and insert EP, and our first this year and 2024 and 2025, and then MAYBE they consider it. The only way Beddard would ever be traded is if he refuses to go. Even the Lindros trade took a lot of the season or so to materialize as well. He did put on the Nords jersey, draft day, despite warning them he wouldn't report. Every year since JB arrived, some new toy comes to play, and another 15 year old is brought up to start drooling over. Chychrun when he was 16. Jack when he was 14ish. The next "Lidstrom" Dahlin, and next "Kane" in Jack Hughes. We won't win the lottery. Likely picking 9-11th.
  19. Yes me too. Also think if Lindros played today he'd do to Tom Wilson what he did to Panarin. Nobody could handle him in todays game.
  20. Nope. I bet he ends up with around 650-700. Nothing to be ashamed of (assuming he plays at least 17 seasons). Gretzky shoulders and back slowed him down considerably in the shot department, kept it up until his early 30's ... at some point the same thing is likely to happen to him. Doesn't have the frame that Howe, Hull senior , Jagr and Ovi had/have. So 900 pro goals isn't going to happen. My bet is somewhere between 650-700 if things work out for him health wise. Once cap stuff comes in, two more full years with Draisatl (he's scoring a lot when it's not even strength), he's going to have the same challenges Kane and Toews had. Sure he's good enough to keep it up ... 40 goals for 12 more years assuming he can do 20 full seasons, likely still has him around 700. Going to need to string together a lot of 50 plus goal years to come close to top ten. A lot of guys lost at least 1/2-1 years due to lockouts that otherwise would had added to their totals, covid did that to him. He's got a decent shot at being in the mid 700's but that would mean a good amount longevity (17-20 seasons). Nothing wrong with that either, and it would put him with some of the best goal scorers to play the game. Personally I think he's having his best season right now. Playoff games start to take a toll. I think they make it to the Western Conference final this year.
  21. My bet is that a decent amount of the same folks that keep complaining about not getting Beddard, are the same ones who wanted to trade the crew for "the next Lidstrom" or do the same to move up for another brother duo or even trade some of the farm for Nolan Patrick. This obsession and first overall envy is getting old. 12% is bad odds. And let's say we did, the conversation would quickly change to how we are "wasting his ELC" and the panic level would be extreme about which core player we'd have to trade - QHs or EP, to fit him under the cap lol.
  22. Yes. Most likely we'd be saying he's the best player we've ever had - maybe some would say no it was Bure. And a few Mogilny. Even now, EPs getting some love for being the best we've ever had. And rightly so. Bure was a one man/line wrecking ball. EP makes those around him better. Not that Bure didn't lol... probably would have 75 goals the year he played with Gino, spent a considerable amount of effort setting him up (and swear half the time Gino whiffed on an empty net!). God bless Gino though. Heart was three sizes bigger than most.
  23. Dale Hawerchuk was a great player on some bad/mediocre jets teams ... McDavid could suffer the same fate - but his teams aren't as lacking. Dionne 2.0?
  24. If he's getting compared to guys like Yzerman, Sakic, Bossy, Kurri, Hull(s), Crosby and Ovi - that's a pretty special group. Espo deserves props as well. McDavid has been on fire since last season's playoffs. He's playing like he's on a mission. RNH and others are helping too. EDM would be a force to reckon with, IF they can tighten things up, play a little better infront of their goalies and get top ten goaltending this playoff. Like when Mario and Gretzky were playing, the goal now playing against him is just to tie whatever they are doing. Shutting those guys down is a difficult task. Mario with three guys draped on him, and Gretzky so good with the puck, forcing guys to try and take it from him and watching them blow by like fools (EPs done that this year ... Gretzky did that all the time, like Bure skating fast with the puck all the time, with Gretzky, he'd fake half a line and play 5 moves ahead. Shanny said 10 but that's just to make a point. Orr with the puck on the PK...just give it to him and he'd rag the puck lol. Gretzky on the PK was good for 8-12 shorties a season for half his career. McDavid should be able to rattle off two more boffo seasons. Hope he does too. But don't think it's a disservice to bring past greats into it...it's a compliment.
