  1. I wasn't being serious. Just saying if we win ten in a row, then "St Louis won a cup" and "anything is possible" will come up. Of course we aren't playing in the playoffs. Totally agree - we are preparing for next season.
  2. Our D sure looks like an experiment now. Do think they shouldn't ride Demko too hard. A ten game winning streak and this will turn into "Maybe we are St. Louis" and "Anything is possible" lol. We beat TO with all their might fair and square. Like what Millsy and Tochett had to say "this is our playoffs right now" ... not many teams are going to take it easy on us - still fighting for position, but we could see a lot more back-ups then we'd be seeing if we were a wildcard team right now.
  3. Barzal is out as well. Horvat isn't playing the bumper as well with new teammates...it takes time usually. Not with JT though. He'd be waiting for a chance and grabbed it by the horns and ran with it when he became a Canuck. A great example of what you're hoping to get out of a mid level deal with RFA and a couple UFA years included. EP scoring 100, is like Miller scoring 65 at their current pay. Miller and Horvat are both getting the toughest assignments. Horvat's game was unleashed by Bruce, but NYI doesn't cheat, that's not their game. They paid for a 35/35 guy ... and are likely getting a 30/30 one, not terrible if Horvat's defensive game also becomes a focus. For sure his shooting percentage isn't sustainable, but likely once Barzal is back dishing pucks his bumper play will come back. Hockey has its ebbs and flows. Sure both Miller and Horvat will too. Was hoping to keep both at the start of the season .... change was needed. This is looking like a good deal for us and YTD for NYI. Sure their fans won't be too happy if they miss the playoffs. Hronek...Not expecting 50 points. But 30-40 seem reasonable (he won't be taking QHs job on the first unit) and it adds quality depth which we for sure will need later on. As a re-tool move it was a master stroke for a rental.
  4. Let's hope TB gives us their entire 2026 draft class for him lol. At 50% retained from us and 50% more retained from a third party.
  5. Didn't it happen for OEL and LE though? I'd say ... maybe Seth Jones for Myers lol. Book it.
  6. Allvin at night reading your proposals ...
  7. Yes. Retention may help ... next TDL maybe. In the end maybe we just have one more season with Myers.
  8. Too bad we don't know the teams Myers will put on his list. My guess would be none of the bottom feeders with cap space
  9. The scouts are which makes it even more funny. Ok expect from maybe the first pick:
  10. Guenther surprised me. Didn't think we missed much in the draft. Know it's vogue to take a lot of stock from the WJ's. His last couple games he was a boss. Hard not to notice that.
  11. So you want a team of Stecher's. Have to pay to play. Just look at the OEL trade. We basically traded Horvat for him, AB and Raty plus a second. That's good asset management for a rental. Excellent given our terrible right side, something i've grown tired about whining about. Let's see how he plays the first 40 games before calling this a disaster. Or a great trade as well. So trading Horvat was the biggest bite of the elephant.
  12. NYI pick has options making it quite desirable. Yzerman may make fools of us, or maybe it works out fairly even. They are still looking for game breakers, we are trying to build around ours. Detroit and Vancouver started rebuilding around the exact same time. They had no pool as well, not because they couldn't draft anyone - Bertuzzi was a good pick, but because they had no picks after years of going all in. We on the other hand, were a mixed bag but mostly saddled with claused guys that didn't waive when they still had good value other than Kesler. If i had to choose a roster, theirs or ours, i'd pick ours. OTT is a great example of trading before guys are UFAs and i'd say they are already ahead of us as a result.
  13. Take OEL out. Well maybe. Suppose there is a world where he waives if he's just going to get bought out. Allvin for GM if the year if he can manage this - but pretty sure we'd be adding this years first as well. They will use their cap and weaponize it. 20 million ... yes some bad contracts ... maybe instead we get Seth Jones (if he waives) in this deal.
  14. A far cry from getting excited about Vrbata, Ryan Miller, Sutter, Gudbranson, Hutton etc ... kind of so beware the foundational players lol. It's a good start for sure. Hopefully they can do some stuff at the draft to add picks and shed salary. Brock, AB ... maybe even Kuzmenko. Expect one of them gone. We've got a pretty mean top nine. Just need to work on that defense.
  15. Totally get it. The same way folks from 82 and 94 want to be vindicated, and I'm sure a few on here also want to see the WCE era back and vindicate Lidstrom's long bomb ... had one of the best teams ever assembled on the ropes. 2-0. No other team gave the Wings as much grief on the way to the cup. We are already known for that - but so do a half dozen other teams so it's not like we own that either. Re-branding seems to be part of our thing, and if we are going to do this, let's do it right and start with the "unfinished business" from the skate era. QHs and EP, Demko ... well even Podz looks like a boss. Bite of the elephant and major surgery and all of that. Let the core that emerges after this one (a decade or so hopefully) give the Sedins stuff another go. At least they finally got it right. Took over a decade (to get it right).
  16. Reality is this team has rebranded itself a couple times, and usually times it when change is needed. The guys just look too boss, minus the stupid TD square, but i'm willing to overlook that, by bringing the skate back as the primary uniform. Miller loves it. Bieksa and his mates loved it, asked to wear it and were denied. The WCE era has their's, Linden teams theirs, Sedin team theirs, going back to the best of the best and most liked uniform in club history isn't the end of the world. Sure it will be an adjustment for younger fans who haven't had to go through much other then fixing the colours with the Orca and the SIR now and again. Thing is the blacks were good, but the whites were even better. Back then on low D, often rabbit ears it was hard to know whom was whom lol ... with the blacks. 20 inch screen, 15 feet away. With the whites it was much easier. And they were our home uniforms back then. Know it's polarizing ... but it's not like the WCE ones didn't do that too. Sometimes removing the trauma is easy, but causes some on the way too. This would help give the new core its identity. Keep fin. Or maybe it's just about giving some hope that we use the ones that won more playoff games than any other. There will always be some that pine for one of the others, but believe the pushback won't be so bad.
  17. How about a tank that shoots banana's? Best of both worlds. 24 points. That's how many we get.
  18. He made some comments for sure "thought i'd be a Canuck for life etc", then signed a deal with NYI right away lol. So yes shocked and a little surprised and a little sullen.
  19. In fairness Rutherford did his best to sign Horvat. 7.5 x 8 or x 7 was a lot of dough. And repeatedly said the better he plays the better the return if they couldn't get a deal done. Horvat acted stunned and surprised after a trade the entire fanbase and the hockey universe was anticipating. A lot of fans said "we have to get a RHD for Horvat" ... and this is how it was managed. Horvat and a second for AB, Raty and Hronek. Trade tree has a decent chance of having some legs for us ... hard to say how it will work out for sure. So far pretty great.
  20. Let's just hope they pick some guys. We need a boffo draft like Nonis's first one this season.
  21. It's still a worthy conversation. Depends on what it's for. Swapping picks and another young top four RHD or a young solid 3C maybe is the best course. If we win the lottery of course we take our pick. I'm sure they will do their due diligence and have an option available to them to move up or down the draft as well. Hard to know for sure.
  22. I never bought into Green was a terrible coach like some ( a lot). We all enjoyed the bubble. Agree Tochett is probably a better communicator. Greens rosters were very underwhelming for the most part.
  23. Decades? Didn't we compete for the cup with the Sedins? Pretty sure we were the favourites. A cup yes. But ever competed for a cup about on par for the course with how many teams exist now. Every 32 years - one cup one final loss on average. Yuck. And like flipping a coin, odds are still 50/50 even if it's heads a hundred times in a row etc. Get we've been waiting for a cup forever. Or half a century plus. And that's a long time. There is no perfect method. What I will say is QHs and EP look unique and special like Bure and Mogilny. They don't want to go through a rebuild. They want good players around them. Funny. COL. How many of those guys did they actually draft? Core guys - 4 McKinnon, Landsekog, Makar and Rantanen. The rest were trades. Should they instead waiting for a "new core" to emerge? The majority of their roster was traded for (including Makar for sure )... Kadri, no cup without him, same with Toews, Girard and Manson. A lot will have to go right for this to work ... but do think we have a solid base to work with. Our "pool" sucks. Absolutely. Yet we are still now the 3rd youngest team in the league. I for one, won't be at all "shocked" if we trade our pick this draft. Nobody should really. Unless we win the lotto.
  24. Soucy would be a great add. MIN most noticeable in a good way, D in the bubble.
