  1. I really think that if OJ came in and was better than McAvoy that every thing would be different. I hated the pick at the time but understood why he did it. I’m not that bullish on him as he seems frail and hasn’t made the show yet. Plus watching him live one game he was good the other he was benched on a play that turned into the game winning goal for Laval (instead of taking the body which he easily could have done he went for the puck and the guy blew by him). Can’t see how he will be in the NHL this year, maybe late in the season, plus Brisbois was better....of course this is a small sample size. The flip side is maybe we wouldn’t have EP as a result so things worked out ok. I was sick to my stomach when I heard the trade and was waiting to here Sergechevs name but it didn’t come. After some research into JT Miller I wasn’t as sick anymore and after doing the math on what that pick could mean for us actually pretty stoked. I do get your viewpoint and will even admit that it could be right. For now and not for a year or two we won’t really know if it was the right move, but I do know that the players themselves must be really stoked to have Myers and Miller and Benn coming in (who is considered a top five value UFA this offseason) could be our Vanek signing but for defense the next couple years.
  2. Not bad. I can’t disagree with a lot of this with the exception of SJ. I wasn’t surprised EK stayed but have said for a while that this team is on the decline even though their window is still open, much like PIT but even older. One of those guys left in Pavelski who’s still probably going to be decent for a year or two, the other wasn’t re-signed in Thornton who still is good enough to play a decent 2nd line center but you never know when he’s going to decline further, could be this year. And Burns is going to be done in two or three years as in a Norris caliber guy and regress too. They are like we were five years ago. The difference is Wilson won’t rebuild he’s a re-tool all the way sort of guy and seems to make it work. But he’s going to have to pay the piper at some point and I think EK will maybe keep them a bubble team at best until it pops. Last year they had some bad spells. Jones has seemed to regress, fixing that position would go a long way in keeping them relevant (if they had Gibson I wouldn’t be talking about them nearly as much, but they don’t). Im also not as bullish on NSH. They seem to have issues, losing Subban will hurt a bit, adding Duchene might balance the hit and put them up. Rinne is in the twilight of his career and their back-up wasn’t as a bright light last year as he was the year before. Not saying we are better then them, would say somewhere in between marginally and a different league. I would definitely swap Vegas with SJ. Vegas (I’m jealous) added Stone, Patches and MAF still has the stuff (and would have beat SJ handily if not for that Pavelski hit, and all there guys are back basically, not SJ though) at least for now I’d say we are in a different league then them. On paper at least both wild cards look to be coming from the Central. We have decent odds of fighting for the third spot in our division. Vegas, CAL, SJ/VAN would be my bets for 1,2,3 and of course on paper is NEVER the same as what the experts say will happen so we do have decent odds that one of the wild cards will come from our division, and slim odds both even. I also believe we are a team on the rise, EP is also an if...you have to think one of two of those ifs we will hit on and when he does explode, watch out.
  3. I have not looked in that thread sorry. But who focuses on the negative? Nice try. But I did read one of your posts after that looked actually not too bad, your assessment of the western conference teams and it really was pretty good. So I gave your a heart. Good job bubbles, now I think I get it your handle, you think JB is Bubble Man. Like a bubble team...just on the outside looking in. Heck could be right, as in that’s where we are at in the rebuild. The future looks brighter then that though, as long as he doesn’t or someone else doesn’t mess it up, in three years all the cap space comes back from the re-tool and gap/placeholder phase, just when Podz arrives, Tree is hopefully back and all the kids are starting or well into their second contracts. That’s when this team could do some damage. For now I agree mostly with your assessment there are a lot of ifs still for the team to make the playoffs and win a round or two. Not that many to make the show but still some, decent health is one as the team proved the last year and even a little when the Sedins were here that they could play with anyone when healthy and win enough to be a top three team in our division. Markstrom is also still an if as is Demko, but not a big one. One things for sure prime UFAs like Panarin, Stone, Duchene, Stamkos, Tavares etc will be much more interested in choosing Vancouver as a destination in three years then they do now and in the recent past (and many of them did anyways) not saying we should do that but at least it’s an option. Anyways thanks for letting me know I honestly had seen nothing but complaints and negativity and started to pick on you. Look forward to seeing more like your western conference list.
  4. Or Horvat instead of Nitsch (how do u spell him again) when posters frequently whined and wanted to trade him because all he could do was win face offs when he came in. (No I’m not saying this because maybe OJ will end up better then every other D in the draft or because he will make me forget that we passed on MT). Or JV instead of blank blank. You crack me up sometimes as does this forum. ( BTW BPA is smart safe and usually works out....glad he’s learning that and picked Podz this year and not the next best D even though we needed one).
  5. Not that he hasn’t tried, nobody wants our leftovers...Vanek scores 50 points and the best he could do was Motte (not bad but not a pick either, although he likelihood of the pick doing what Motte does is small, could be better too though of course which is where your coming from right?). Beiksa and a second string goalie at least got us three picks. Waiver eligible? You must be talking about Vey...sure that’s not you tomatoes? When wad the last time he traded a pick before JT Miller (below six)...I get the frustrations but why don’t we wait and see how the team does this year before the pitchforks come out. Not intentionally trying to troll, yet it’s the same thing every post just like Tomatoes, whose mysteriously quieted down since you came on board...careful or you might be censored the same way Gaurdian eventually was. Try and say something nice every now and then and maybe it won’t come across as trolling.
  6. What you failed to add to your narrative, was that the Canucks were a top team in the league for years, four actually, and during that span the drafting was abysmal (the little the actually occurred), and their was no Stajanov -Naslund or Linden who turned into Bertuzzi and one of the Sedins, eventually Luongo, well I guess we got Markstrom from the deal that keeps on ticking this time around (thx MG). Context helps. Yes we’ve sucked for a while, four years in a row now, but the few years around Keenan seemed a lot worse, and most of eighties weren’t too hot either. There’s also 31 soon to be 32 teams now, not 12 - 21 like the 70’s and 80’s...it’s harder then ever to get your shot. I do agree that the loser point inflates things though. TO never broke 100 in all their years until I counted. 100 is the new 90.
  7. Tomatoes duplicate? Or at least a clone. It’s so obviously similar and the timing of (joined June 28th) it with a Benning support over 10-1 on one of the recent threads, I called it at the time that the few that keep hammering the CDC with anti-Benning sentiment would make more handles just to vote against him so they could agree with more then a few people (themselves apparently). Plus bubbles are round and so are tomatoes ha ha. These guys I actually don’t mind too much, but wish they’d step their game up a bit and not be so obvious like the Gaurdian before them (where the heck did he go anyways sometimes his stuff was insightful). “Keep all draft picks we are in a rebuild “ is tomatoes on endless repeat. Sound familiar?
  8. Why don’t we just wait and see how things go too, before passing judgements. Both sides are could be right depending how things could play out. For now anyways why don’t we just welcome him on board, he’s a bona fide multi-purpose blue chip player on a decent contract. TB really wanted this guy at the time and offered him a good contract later to play with them long term. Their cap situation and the progression of both Kucherov and Point meant they had to do something. Same thing could happen to us in the future with Horvat or someone else. We weren’t getting that from the draft and paid a fair price for him. He might endear himself to the fans OR he might be linked to a could have would have should have situation depending on who we might of had instead. Look forward to hopefully seeing him help EPs line and the team take the next step...
  9. Hopefully it’d Mettalica or Slayer and not Blind Mellon or Dave Mathews edit: Id even go Def Leppard Rock of Ages, cool intro good sounds and upbeat
  10. Pretty much exactly how I see it. Maybe Benning is more optimistic then me but he should portray that confidence in his lineup. He believes in them and that’s something that spreads done to the bottom of organization, The call-ups in Utica. Don’t see why I shouldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt. Not as fickle as some fans. I suppose that’s a result of watching hockey this long. Nothing would surprise me at this point. We could end und DFL or winning he Presidents trophy. Probably somewhere in the middle...
  11. Play something that has bite to it and a good beat. Mettalica (Seek and Destroy, Don’t Tread on Me, almost anything really) AC/DC, GnR, Zeppelin has a few good ones that would work, .... SJ kind of owns Mettalica so be careful but could still work....just no Bryan Adams or contemporary crap please.
  12. Sounds like your a seasoned fan. Two riots, reffing, Bertuzzi and Brashear incidents, the Keanen and Messier years, Kieths elbow, the Orca (ok that’s for some of us oldies, I accept it now but didn’t like it at the start (the look) and didn’t like how it came into fruition) ...there is a lot of reasons not to get your hopes up...nice to see like me you haven’t lost it in spite of all of this. EP, Boeser, Hughes, Horvat, Miller, Demko, Podz, Edler, Myers plus a few of OJ, JV, plus plus definitely has me more optimistic then I’ve been in a while... Markstrom too. It will be disappointing if we don’t make the playoffs this year, but Canuck fans are used to that. Once we make the playoffs anything can happen, I believe we will see some guys step up and some guys disappear a little...but we could definitely surprise some teams and win a round or two.
  13. Is McQauid still available? Doesn’t fight as much but when he does look out, one of the best in the league and would likely come cheap. Nice guy to have around as a depth defender and could slot him in when guys need rest or a tough game is coming up...
  14. Hmmm... is that legal? Might not be in he “spirit” of the NHLPA ... it could be “circumventing” it. Let’s do it!
  15. Good post. I can’t wait until his contract is done too...at worst three more years, and by then we will have moved on from placeholders and “foundational” guys like Sutter and Tanev (unless by some miracle he stops getting hurt and we re-up him)...when Podz is just getting started this team won’t look anything like it does now, some of the secondary players in our pool will be getting looks such as Madden, Lind this years 2nd etc..that is the team we will actually have a chance to contend with (hopefully). And good chance Tree comes back a seasoned vet.. Best part is until then guys will be coming off the books each year and playoffs are more likely then not. Should be a interesting ride...
  16. And didn’t they set a team record too? Oh sorry that was the year before at a whopping 105 points and that includes OTL Shoot-out wins. In fact they NEVER broke 100 points before OTL became adding a point and have done it five times since 1999-2000. All between 100-105 points... which is a big whoopie. We did it eight times since then including four times in a row and 117 as the high water mark, and also broke 100 points once when it used to be an actual accomplishment. What happens in Leaf Land ( la la land), is grossly exaggerated, the funniest thing is Kadri ruined their chances at a cup, this was the year to do it before all the cap came in and crushed their dreams. Now they can try and west coast express it, except this time they have a good goalie but no defense and soon a questionable depth issue. Their top guys better be on. When Gardiner went down so did they. Now no Gardiner at all...and no Kadri, sure they have a PP specialist instead for a year...don’t think it will be enough. Hole Marner sticks it to them, he’s their best player by far. And should get paid as such. Which according to Dubas is at least 11.5 (wow, really wow).
  17. You should have stopped while you were ahead. Hello tomatoes. Started June 28, yet been following the team since 94? Seems suspicious to me, only one other poster on this site is as black and white as you, just give up already.
  18. Wow. I don’t mind your posts. Anyone who’s suffered through it since 94 with me is a brother in arms even if our viewpoints don’t line up. I also don’t think that it’s so black and white when it comes to JB criticism, there is a graph or spectrum, it doesn’t have to be all the way bad or all the way good. If I had to give him a mark (and I have marked papers and given grades before, part time anyways ) he’d get a 71%, high C plus or a B - overall. The fact he isn’t in the looney bin or cracked to all negativity, and the sh$t sandwich his predecessor left him is somewhat endearing. Its only the few tomatoes that constantly give him a bad rap and never give him any props despite some great moves/signings/picks that gets my ire up....is that you tomatoes?
  19. Who wouldn’t? What the NYR did was pretty cool too, but they definitely seemed to waste some of it last draft. Now they have Bread man so maybe their rebuild is over plus Kakko? Ha ha... somehow I doubt it. With all their wealth they couldn’t buy a cup pre-cap although they sure tried too...what a rush job. Of the teams rebuilding do you really think Benning has done that bad of a job? Not great, I’d agree to that, but certainly not bad either. He’s got his core locked in, you can only afford so many good players and we seem to have that now. His cap management is underrated, once the chaf and guys that will age out (Sutter, LE, Schaller, Beagle, Tanev, Edler, etc etc etc) we will have money to spare and all our guys under decent contracts that are renewable. I truly never thought our next core had a chance. Still have some doubts but they are getting smaller, NO team has ever gone from the top since expansion back to the top as a presidents trophy contender back to back unless you include Detroit who managed it with parts of two cores. I figured that we’d might get another chance with parts of this core and the next one at best, just like we’ve done historically. In other words maybe when EP is in his late twenties and Horvat, JV and Boeser are all gone, maybe with Podz too. Now I’m not so sure. Our team is on the precipice of making the playoffs every year for the the next four or five with who’s under contract and assuming Hughes and OJ both work out. Each time we make it we have a good shot, especially now with parity. Look at what’s happening with “contenders” like ANA and NSH and WNP and TB the last four years and others too. Guess time will tell.
  20. Bracket has a lot of guys doing a good job absolutely. Delmore gets credit for EP but he wasn’t the guy who discovered him, that was the local scout who had ties to our organization who watched both Dahlen and EP. Benning gets the credit. I agree Burke and Nonis built the Sedin team, and Gillis polished it up. What are we arguing over again I’m not sure ha ha?
  21. Go back and read it again. Two teams rebuilding for decades etc etc and one having decent odds at a quick rebuild, that being OTT. When you have something like 100 picks coming your way it helps a lot. Edit: I agree it takes a plan and a clue, OTT somehow landed on their feet after one of the strangest years I’ve ever seen an Org go through. Duchene could have been Hughes, Byram is still a tough pill to swallow, but CLB got past the first round and they got a first back albeit not as good. They are also one of the better drafting teams in the league and have been for quite some time...Gems like Stone and hitting a lot better average then us past the second round the past ten years. If that continues I think they might end up one of the better teams in the East, despite losing EK, Stone, Duchene, Hoffman etc...
  22. Don’t forget teams have an allowance to go over the cap too during the off season, I believe it’s ten percent. And as per the penalty for going over the cap it means during actual games that the team has to ice whatever that amount is less people. Worse case is it’s usually one person short. In the past teams have managed by moving guys that won’t likely get picked up on waivers up and down. Sometimes losing a guy to waivers is actually a good thing for a deep team looking to remove a roster spot too...
  23. I didn’t play but if I did this is almost identical except I’d have an asterisk next to Hughes as number one offensively given he hasn’t done it yet (which I’m sure he will do). I’d also rank Myers higher then Edler offensively given they are almost identical career wise PPG, the difference is Edler has had all the primo PP time including when we had the guns, Myers has barley had any yet managed fine, plus he had the better shot. Good job...
