  1. Watched Utica beat Laval last night, Dahlen first star, but was star-Struck myself with Burrows looking good behind the Rockets bench....still looks like he’s just finished college.. going this afternoon too, Dahlen first star last night, OJ looked good...
  2. Here’s our guy, the dragonslayer at tonight’s game...god bless Burrows.
  3. About to see him, a couple rows back of his head...good luck Burrows!
  4. Burrows, do we really need to ... let go? Sigh. Maybe, maybe not, but the views expressed in this thread is the heart and soul of the collective CDC. Burrows is already an icon, involved in one of our biggest and absolutely cathartic goals. Is that the right word? Biggest works too. Only guy other than Carter that clicked with the Sedins, and did his job well, and for a lot of it was on a team friendly contract (the last one made up for it). Thanks Burrows, and thanks for Dahlen too. Hopefully he will keep your legacy going, the same way Bertuzzi, Luongo, Sedin, and Markstom did for Linden.
  5. All I will say is coastal view did a fine job of covering this a few posts in, any team or fan base has good examples of poor or questionable referring. Buffalo and Dallas is an extreme example as one team won the cup while the other lost it to a non-call, that the entire year was considered not a goal many like it were disallowed...but the refs thought it was a good goal (which it was ) and let it slide anyways and the next year the league changed the rules again... To me the 94 series we were obviously battling the refs too, a tiny clip and Bure was ejected and he was on fire that night...of course we lost. And Messier cross check to Momessos back wasn’t called, worse than Marchand not something like an unsportsmanlike or roughing call. At least in 2011 we got our power plays although again it felt like we were battling the refs. The league seems to have its favourites each year, maybe it gets into the refs head a bit, but the only two rule books that really exist are the regular season and the playoffs. The grit we’ve added and the calls that will come our way as a result, won’t be called nearly as much once we get a playoff spot.. In truth the senior refs that get the playoff games and get the semi and finals are the cream of the crop, they are supposed to be consistent...but they still make mistakes and players will do whatever they can to get away with one..
  6. You should get your wish on both counts...top then plays of the week on SN had THREE with Pettersson, including the number one which was Talbots glove save on Goldobin who was dished a sure goal by Pettersson cross crease pass...or not he must be snake bitten. My fave was his pass between his legs, and a defender that started the tic-tac-toe goal with Horvat and Bear. Not sure how TG plans to play him but he deserves his spot undeniably after what we’ve seen.
  7. I think this is the year we bottom out. By that I mean we will have a guaranteed top five pick in the draft. OTT will likely have honours if DFL but we won’t be far behind. The silver lining is another great prospect, and what happens down in Utica. Also the stealth line should be removed from the thread, when all the hockey pundits think we will be worst in our division and don’t have a chance at a playoff spot there’s nothing sneaky about it.
  8. Not just our division, the entire West. Better hope the boys are ready for the token one road game per year in the East, they will need those points!
  9. THN’s Recent top 25 by position already had “the Flow” ranked 15, that’s in very good company and suggests he’d be even higher if it wasn’t for his season ending injury. Can’t wait to see what a full season of Brock looks like, this year he’s starting to look like Lesnar, added a lot of muscle to his frame. 40 plus goals? If Pettersson can dish on the PP, it’s possible he could challenge for the Richard trophy in his second year...
  10. It's only one game. Let the sample size get a little bigger and the nerves shake out, get used to his defenseman etc (same goes for WNP). Posts are hit to a certain degree from a goalies positioning and what the shooter had available to him. Fact is he let two in, none in the first period etc. and gave the team infront of him a chance to get a real lead (it could have been a 1-1 affair which might have reeled in the offense somewhat etc). Let's see how things unfold, any goalie can have an off night..
  11. He's our secret weapon that won't be too much of a secret after this years over. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he tears up the AHL, these guys spend their whole life been told they will never make the next level because they are too small, and then make people wrong. He did it in junior, then did it in Liiga, and will do it in the A, and then make his way into the top six and do it in the NHL. He looked like Theo out there, but the difference is he's built like a tank already where as Theon was 140lbs at the same age. St.Louis set the bar for these guys, not many get to play, but Palmu looks to have the stuff. Hope he's a PPGer plus in the pre-season and give Benning a blistering headache on what to do.
  12. And Johnsson making the jump to TO won't hurt our odds. One magazine the Forecaster, has him winning the Calder, he's that good. The Marlies will miss their playoff MVP, and we've just added a boatload of talent. Also if one or two of these guys make the Canucks, that should mean someone very good comes down (assuming they clear waivers), and it's possible one of Gaunce, Goldobin is added before the season starts too. Going to make a road trip to watch back-to-back games this year, can't wait!
  13. OJ started to dominate his league last year in the playoffs and started to show why Benning selected him. He's much stronger than he used to be at 200lbs and 6'3" and no longer looks like the string been he was at the draft. It's still possible he develops into a first pairing guy but with Hughes coming he won't have to. The pair of them is exactly what our defense needs, a shut down second pairing behind a run and gun first one, and two guys that can give both our power play units a different look. Good things are coming, I can't wait for the 2019-2020 season, it looks like it will be a pivotal one, and the rest of our division will take notice. The California teams will start to take a back seat to the Canadian teams...their cores will be stale soon (SJs is already and ANA isn't far behind although at least they've managed to draft some good players to keep their window open a little longer, LA will also have a chance if Valardi works out and their core can keep it up for a couple more years)...nice time to be a fan, the suffering is over IMO, yes we won't make the playoffs, but that only means another great wave of players for OJ,EP, Boeser, Horvat and likely Lind, Dahlen, Gaudette, Demko etc to add another two guys to the lineup filling holes and keeping our cap manageable...
  14. That blows. What is a historic sweater anyways? Sounds really, really old...like something from the Vancouver Millionaires or something
  15. So we get to see the Skate 7.5 times a year is what your saying??
  16. The truth is even HHOF guys go through this once or twice...the Sedins did early on post draft at a prospects game where Joe Thornton basically had his way with them (and everyone else), and I read that it was hard for them at the time. Again when they first started in the NHL there were times they questioned if they would stay or even survive...of course they did. Dahlen will be fine, might take him some time to get acclimated, but once he does he will do well and his skill will shine through, but as fans it's important to remember to be patient with these guys and understand some won't make it, and some that weren't expected to do much will also sneak up and win a roster spot. Dahlen probably worked his butt off this summer and will come in guns a blazing, but it's not the end of the world if he needs a full year in the AHL before getting his first NHL game either.
  17. On this team 50/50, Benning seems prepared to let these guys develop more which so far is working out (Boeser). Dahlen looks to have a great chance at a solid (or better) NHL career, what he acccomplished was overshadowed by Pettersson, but didn't go unnoticed, he's got a ton of upside and it wouldn't surprise to see him on the wing on the top line in two years.
  18. Maybe we got those too but we only had two channels that were visible enough to enjoy, a couple half snow with volume which we would watch if desperate. I believe we got cable when I was older but by then didn't really watch anything but movies from the video store (many years of renting vcr's until we finally got one, which felt like winning the lottery as at the same time we also got a microwave). Lots of friends went to Mt.Doug, went to Cedar Hill jr high which was a little like dazed and confused, then off to Castlegar which was almost exactly like it....kids these days don't have a clue what it's like without computer and the internet ha ha. Some fun lost but maybe for the better. Golf clubs for twelfth b-day, then countless nights sneaking on to do the bottom nine. If u remember one year 4 hectares of grass burnt down late August by the rec center, that was me and my brother one friend blowing up wasp nests and otherwise acting like fools near their equipment shed at hole 17...was black for a couple months. We used to climb the tennis bubble at night too and bring a ghetto blaster and enjoy the view until the police would come, which we could see a mile off as they were too stupid not to use their flashlights, slide down and make our get away. Good times for sure! (We called it bubble hopping) and one Saturday we helped a wedding party climb the fence and get up there, bride and groom and all, then disappeared into the crowd when half the Saanich police came to get them down.
  19. I moved to Victoria at five from the Kootenays (both east and west) and grew up next to the 18th hole by the Cedar Hill golf course in Saanich too. We never had cable but did have two channels, one from the states so we could watch A-Team, night rider etc and Mom some soaps, the other CBC..and of course Saturday morning cartoons. Twenty inch screen which seemed ok at the time. Spent the summers at grand parents in Castlegar where I'm from (and went to high school later) and they had the one tone furniture full colour TV with cable which was always a treat (although screen time was maybe an hour and not every day which seemed fine too). Times have sure changed, but hockey with HD and a big screen is definitely great!
  20. Did you get two or three channels, one (CBC) came in pretty good, like a bad VCR tape that constantly needed tuning, the other half snow but decent volume, the third all snow but some volume with added tinfoil and your little brother (or sister) holding it just right the entire time? Ours was 20inch but add ten years (late seventies when we got it, didn't have one when very young) and colour on one channel. At least Intellevision worked crystal clear, all 200pixels of it. My kids had to "suffer" through some tube TVs (but still gigantic by those standards) watching Dora when younger, now as teenagers get exactly what you said...and everyone gets a phone because everyone in their class had one by the time they were in grade five (we are so mean to make them wait until they are/we're fourteen right?). We grew up with 7-9 of us with a single line wall mounted rotary phone, it was just fine too.
  21. Is that Patrick Sullivan? The guy that was Eagered so bad Burrows gives him nightmares to this day, because you know, Burrows is crap and never should be playing at the NHL level?
  22. Prepare to be very surprised then. When he gets his shot and has a dozen games in our blue line will improve, and he will end up on both special teams. Because he is actually a special player. Is see a Lumme type defender, but a better skater, just smart with the puck, controls the pace when he's on the ice, makes smart crisp passes and eventually ends up on the PP and gives it a fresh look. I think he will makes it out of camp.
  23. One more year with a caveat for one more year after that....it's in Bennings contract.
  24. You bet, they will be Wooshing they picked Woo instead. Ugh that was terrible.
  25. That's absolutely terrible. You could play any guy on any NHL team and give them first unit PP time for a year and they would score at least one goal. Man I can't wait to usher in the next top four, I know it's a process but when you point this out you can understand where Gaurdian and others who just want to play the kids come from. OJ can do better than that. Beiga probably could.
