  1. Aboriginal people lived all over the Americas, not just here in Vancouver and BC. The Canucks' heritage and history is not based on marine life and Aboriginal people. The Canadiens don't use an animal based on Aboriginal art in their identity. Neither should the Canucks unless they change their name to Orcas or Totems, provided that the latter isn't taken by Seattle.
  2. History lesson time. The Blues are named after the W.C. Handy song, "Saint Louis Blues". Blue note crest for the song.
  3. CDC poll is small potatoes compared to the overall Canucks fan base.
  4. I've been a Canucks for 40 years. Just telling it like it is. Like or not.
  5. Uniting a fan base is passing on the club's heritage, history, knowledge and tradition from the oldest generations of fans to the current and future generations of fans.
  6. If that's what the Canucks are really trying to do, it's called dividing the fan base. Good sports organizations unite their fan bases. Bad organizations do exactly the opposite. Catering to Millennials who aren't as knowledgeable about Canucks, hockey and sports history as their respective elder generations is plain wrong. I'm a Generation Xer who grew up with the Skate and I appreciate the heritage and history of the Canucks, which is Johnny Canuck and the classic Stick in Rink C.
  7. Only on CDC, dominated by Millennials and a few older environmentalists. Outside message boards, Johnny Canuck is widely popular and the corporate Orca is the least popular.
  8. The Canucks will win the Cup with Johnny Canuck or the classic Stick in Rink with Johnny Canuck on the shoulders. It's meant to be.
  9. The Leafs had the 'Harold Ballard' leaf for the longest time in their history and still changed to an updated version of their classic leaf crest. The Orca has long overstayed its welcome. Even when Messier went back to New York after cashing his Orca Bay pay cheques, the Orca had overstayed its welcome.
  10. Keeping the corporate Orca will continue to make the Canucks brand one of the biggest laughing stocks and most complex in hockey and North American sports. No logo has ever divided any fan base any more than the Orca Bay-inspired logo. If Johnny Canuck were the primary logo since '97, I highly doubt that there would be outcries to get rid of it compared to the huge number of outcries to ditch the Orca. Well-respected sports uniform expert & critic Don Taylor from Donnie & The Moj says the logo sucks and fully supports Johnny Canuck. Jon Festinger, a regular guest on The Sport Market and a former vice-president of business with CSE has said that the Canucks need to "get rid of that awful Orca". As for Seattle, it's unlikely they will even use the Hartford Whalers 80's green with blue look. Chances are that they might be a forest green and salmon red team. A colour scheme far different than the Utica Comets beautiful Kelly green look with blue helmets and pants -> that's the look the Canucks should adopt as an alternate. As for Johnny Canuck, no matter if the alternate is green or blue, a well-designed JC jersey will outsell the Orca.
  11. I guess you feel the same way about the Penguins logo, eh,
  12. Perhaps, it's time to educate the average Canucks fan?? Knowledge is power.
  13. Jester13 is 1000% correct on all accounts. We all have our respective favourite and least favourite Canucks logos and uniforms. In fact, I love and admire orcas/killer whales just much as any other animal. From a Canucks standpoint, I grew up with the Flying V and beloved Skate logo. The Skate was my hockey symbol growing up. I bled the black, yellow and orange-red colours. However, as I reached my mid 20's, I started to learn and appreciate the history and legacy of Johnny Canuck. The Canucks name is one of the great team names in hockey. It's all because of the late Coley Hall and his vision for Vancouver's professional hockey club. That vision needs to be restored. The Canucks have nothing to lose and everything to gain by retiring the corporately-inspired Orca and embracing Johnny Canuck. JC has critics like all logos do but in the end, it's an identity that will indeed unite all Canucks fans. If JC had replaced the Skate back in '97, there would be no identity crisis, not including demands for throwbacks and new alternates. Johnny Canuck on a blue, white and green uniform along with the block-style font would give the Canucks a Top 10 NHL uniform.
  14. Your Johnny Canuck concept a few years back was beautiful.
  15. Here's proof that Orca Bay was a meddling corporate ownership that wanted their corporate orca influence on the Canucks: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/team-changes-name-of-holding-company/article17979211/ ^^^Arthur Griffiths said it wasn't "his intention to incorporate an orca into the team's logo". **In fact, Griffiths stated on his former radio show that he wanted to have the updated Johnny Canuck in the Skate colours, also designed by Orca logo designer Brent Lynch, as the new primary but new majority owner John McCaw and his Orca Bay "Yes people" like Stan McCammon wanted to have their orca brand in the Canucks' identity. https://relationshipscience.com/person/john-e-mccaw-jr-3366735 ^^^ Orca Bay Capital Corp. Sounds like corporate influence to me. https://theprovince.com/sports/willes-the-complicated-ultimately-happy-saga-of-arthur-griffiths-and-his-vancouver-sports-legacy
  16. ^^^^^^ It's so refreshing to read intelligence on this subject on CDC for a change.
  17. A very accurate, intelligent and thorough post. Thank you Jester13.
  18. Team is called the Vancouver Canucks. Not the BC/Vancouver Orcas.
  19. Like a "Bruin" is a "Spoked B"? Like a "Canadien" is a "CH"? The Canucks are a hockey club. Two hockey elements, coming together in Vancouver, BC colours of blue and green, forming a C. The Islanders and Capitals use a hockey stick in their logos. There are hockey rinks around the Lower Mainland like Burnaby 8-Rinks and at the North Shore Winter Club. In their first 27 NHL seasons as well as their 25 years in the Pacific Coast/Western League, there has never been a reference to marine animals or any other animal for that matter - and rightfully so - club isn't called the "Orcas". West coast or no West Coast. Vancouver is known for its natural scenery especially the North Shore mountain backdrop. The Orca logo was inspired by the Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment ownership, headed by sole owner John McCaw of Seattle. Arthur Griffiths was already out of the Orca Bay ownership. It's baffling how orca logo supporters allow their love for orcas and marine life to get in the way of the truth. I love all animals including orcas. However, there's a clear difference between Canucks Hockey and Corporate Orca Hockey. Otherwise, change the name of the club from Vancouver Canucks to Vancouver/BC Orcas.
  20. Orca Bay uniforms existed from '97 -'07. =Baggins awesome sauce
