  1. Jake with an assist on the power play. Good to see that he's getting power play opportunities.
  2. Good to know that his +/- in the game is misleading.
  3. Comets are losing 2-0 in Bridgeport late in the first period and Jake is already a -2. OUCH.
  4. Here's a feature on Thatcher. His great performances in the recent number of games is getting well-deserved attention. http://www.trentonian.com/sports/20170316/vancouvers-thatcher-demko-emerges-as-one-of-nhls-top-goaltending-prospects
  5. I agree with all your points except one...Burrows was never drafted. The Manitoba Moose, then the Canucks' AHL affiliate, signed Burr from the ECHL. The Canucks, then, signed him him while he was on the Moose roster. Gaudette will, hopefully, be a prime example of Benning's astute scouting.
  6. Goldobin scores a Bure-type goal and gets benched. But when Linden Vey couldn't score and always got pushed off the puck, did he get benched?? Noooooo.
  7. Congratulations to Thatcher on his first professional "goose egg"! And he stopped 38 shots too.
  8. I said "possible", not "definite". Lol. Great to see Jake get on the score sheet. Hopefully, this will ignite his confidence.
  9. Gawd, I hope it's not his wrist....the one he had surgery on.
  10. I wonder how Ehlers would do in the AHL, playing with plugs on the 3rd or 4th line. It's VERY POSSIBLE that Jake may have scored his last goal of the season. That's unless he gets a chance on the top two lines due to improved two-way play. Hopefully, he will be far more mature by next training camp. Far more disappointed with Cassels than with Jake.
  11. Dahlén has the potential to be Benning's best acquisition through the trade route. Benning is not in Cliff Fletcher territory just yet, but he demonstrated a brilliant general manager's shrewdness with this trade. Welcome to Van City, Jonathan.
  12. Great points. I didn't realize that. Overall, we still need to be patient and not panic. Thatcher is going to be fine.
  13. Thatcher, it seems, is having his AHL growing pains as well. Made 26 saves out of 31 shots faced in a 7-4 home loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Not to worry, though. Cory Schneider had his AHL growing pains with the Manitoba Moose and look what happened.
  14. And an even +/- too. I believe Jake is also on a 2-game point streak now.
  15. As a longtime and passionate Canucks fan who takes a great deal of interest in our prospect pool, I strongly recommend listening to Benning and more importantly, Coach Green whenever they're being interviewed. They see the pro prospects on a regular basis. It's easy to base our opinions from the Vancouver sports media. However, the best and most insightful info comes from those who personally know and deal with these young men. When I hear Coach Green being pleased with Jake's attitude, that's progress right there.
  16. When Benning talked about Jake never facing adversity, look no further than Alex Burrows. Burr was never drafted, played in the ECHL and when he played his first full season in the AHL with the Moose, he scored only 9 goals in 72 games and he was 23. A year later, Burr is playing in his NHL rookie season. By the time he was 27, he was ready to take that next step as Coach AV put him on the Sedin line. The rest is history and whether Burrows finishes his career as a Canuck or not, #14 will one day be in the ROH. Let's see how Jake does by the time he's 23. Or 24. Or 27.
  17. Brendan is also two years older and is far more seasoned than Jake.
  18. Nice to see Brendan scoring in back-to-back games since his return to the Comets. He's showing why the Canucks should never give up on him.
  19. Brendan Gaunce being sent down to the Comets is going to be great for Jake. Here's another former first round pick who enjoyed junior hockey success and is now biding his time in his professional development. Brendan is only two years older and has been doing whatever assignment he's been given with stride. That's the kind of influence that should rub off on Jake. And it's a huge bonus when it comes from a fellow peer in his age bracket. Burrows and Kesler paid their dues together in Manitoba and the rest is history. The same thing could maybe happen with Jake and Brendan.
  20. Falcons fans and Patriots haters right after the game.... The WORST choke job in the history of sports.
  21. Improving one's skating doesn't mean he will be competing for Fastest Skater in the Super Skills competition. It just means being a couple of steps better. The Sedins definitely improved their foot speed but still aren't the fastest skaters and that's okay. Also, reading the plays and knowing where to go for potential scoring opportunities can make up for a lack of foot speed.
  22. Boeser has a great attitude and he wants to do well. If he really wants to improve his skating, then his skating will improve with time.
  23. EW, you remember that killer '86 WJC that Sandlak had? Named the tournament's best forward and it played a part in the Neely trade. Unfortunately, the House was rushed early in his career and never took his overall game to the next level. As I'm reading the recent posts, I feel that 5th Line's and DeNiro's concerns are as valid as J.R.'s and Hutton Wink's views. In hindsight, drafting either Nylander or Ehlers would have been the right choice at 6th overall. However, Jake has gifts that would be extremely beneficial in the long-term. I mentioned Sandlak earlier. Remember Cody Hodgson's CHL Player of the Year season?? And he's now retired. When I look at Jake's zeros across his game scoreline, better believe it frustrates me. However, I also look at his +/-. He hasn't been on the ice for many goals against. If Jake's overall attitude is doing a 180 and he is doing everything that he's being told to do, we will see a much improved young pro next season compared to the one we saw this past fall. And to be quite frank, I would prefer to see Jake in the AHL next season and get more mentoring from Coach Green.
  24. I see Juolevi being that leader on defense down the road. With Horvat most likely succeeding Henrik as captain, I can envision Juolevi as a future assistant captain based on his maturity, poise and solid two-way ability which is going to be very beneficial to the rest of the defense corps. As much as we hope to see that dominant Norris Trophy-calibre d-man in Canucks colours one day, we need to be grateful for having a promising young defenseman like Juolevi in the prospect cupboard. And who knows exactly what his ceiling might be?
