  1. Pretty much described Cody Hodgson when he was drafted. High hockey IQ and skating issues with his first couple of strides.
  2. I agree with you on Delorme but I wouldn't knock Steamer. He's the director of player development and he's done some college scouting but he's not a big part of the scouting staff. Thank goodness Boeser is in the prospect pool, however, let's not give up on Jake just yet. Let Green work with him for another season or two.
  3. Anything is possible. Granlund is showing good progress. Nevertheless, Boeser might be turn out to be the best Canucks first round pick taken outside the Top 10/15 since Cory Schneider and best forward taken in the latter part of the first round since Kesler. His maturity is as great as his ability.
  4. Buy Jake a hotdog every time he scores. On second thought, no. Nice to know that he is getting strong mentorship from Green. I hope the Canucks can re-sign Green so he can work with Jake for a couple of more seasons.
  5. How in the world did LA go from nearly two decades without a team to getting 2 teams in 2 years?? Granted, the Rams shouldn't have left in the first place but the Chargers.....now, San Diego only has the Padres. The NFL may be a world-wide marketing machine but it has the worst collection of capitalist owners in sports.
  6. I just went to Yahoo Sports to catch up on NHL stats and I did a comparison between Virtanen and Matthew Tkachuk, who's a year younger. Tkachuk is listed at 6'2" and 202 lbs and Virtanen at 6'1" and 229 lbs. The AHL website currently lists Virtanen at 207 lbs so perhaps he did lose all his summer weight gain. Then again, all that talk about working hard over the summer and he shows up to training camp out of shape. Now for the up-to-date stats: Tkachuk: 37 games, 7 goals, 17 assists, 24 points, 72 PIM, +9 with Calgary. Virtanen: 22 games, 4 goals, 3 assists, 7 points, 18 PIM, -4 with Utica. Yahoo Sports also reported him playing on the third line as of last Saturday. Yes, he's only 20 years old, but this is scary stuff, people. Is Virtanen not committed to being a premier power forward on the team he always dreamed of playing for? If he only had Stetcher's determination, Virtanen would be playing and succeeding as an NHL sophomore. This is not good. Not good at all.
  7. Big Country was notorious for always being out of shape by the time the Grizzlies' training camp started. Driving tractors around his farm were far more important than basketball. If Jake is as non-committed to his hockey career, based on being out shape, that's scary. And here's a local kid who always dreamed of playing for the Canucks.
  8. Lockwood and Subban yes. It's Virtanen and Cassels I'm really concerned about.
  9. The Killer B Line. Such a great relief to see Boeser back in the lineup and back on the scoresheet in a big way. Following the other prospects this season has been very depressing.
  10. FIRST GOAL!!! Congratulations Stech! And what a way to get it too!
  11. Back to reality. Here's a great column by Ed Willis... http://theprovince.com/sports/soccer/mls/vancouver-whitecaps/it-all-looked-so-good-for-the-whitecaps-until-2016#comments
  12. Shaky, question for you...are you a season-ticket holder? Maybe you told me and I forgot. I am a season-ticket holder and I'm also a Southsider. I have not seen Teibert in the starting lineup in who knows how long. I haven't even seen him come off the bench as a substitute. And what about Bryce Alderson?? http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/omar-salgado-bryce-alderson-vancouver-whitecaps-mls-major-league-soccer/
  13. Agree with all your points. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine who follows the soccer world told me that players have a window to negotiate with other clubs during their option year of an existing contract. I read that article on Camilo in the Vancouver Sun on how he wanted to make Vancouver and Canada his new homeland and raising his family here. This guy was this city's most exciting and electrifying athlete since Pavel Bure. And he wanted to be a Vancouverite and most of all, a Canadian. However, thanks to this incompetent management committee led by Lenarduzzi and Rachel Lewis and the absentee ownership, they allowed the 'Caps brand to suffer as a result. This move ranks right up there with the Cam Neely trade, the Lions allowing Doug Flutie to bolt to Calgary and the Grizzlies' dismissing of acquiring Steve Nash. As for getting a DP in the Camilo mold, forget it. Camilo was a lucky diamond in the rough that got tossed in the deep ocean. Because the 'Caps scouting is a complete joke, expect the more Jarjus and Riveros disguised as DP's and more wasted picks like Salgado, Mattocks and Hurtado. The so-called Residency program....what the heck happened to local kid Caleb Clark? First he was hurt, then given away on a loan and now he's out of the organization. What's happened to Russel Teibert since his two-goal game vs LA? Build from within, right Mr. President Lenarduzzi? I just hope this club continues to lose and score goose eggs for the remainder of the season. The entire organization needs to be heavily exposed for what they are before things ever get back on track.
  14. It shows that the 'Caps didn't do their homework. I don't know exactly what other land the club owned but it doesn't matter where. As long as it was close to rapid transit. Look at Arthur Griffiths. Okay, unfortunately, he didn't have the financial backbone but explored all avenues on where to build GM Place. Kerfoot and Co didn't explore all their avenues.
  15. I have vented about ownership's cheapness ever since the Camilo fiasco. However, Lenarduzzi has bugged the living hell out of me for, who knows, how long. Shaky, you bring up great points about so-called "BC's Mr. Soccer". If he thinks he's untouchable, then why does he lack the pair of grapefruits and the spine to go to this invisible ownership group and remind them that the 'Caps winning legacy has been tarnished? That long-time fans and supporters are fed up with mediocrity? Every time I listen or read Lenarduzzi's comments, my stomach turns. The guy is extremely condescending. What does he really have to offer the Whitecaps other than rehashing memories of his playing career and the '79 Soccer Bowl winning team? Is he still hung up on being Vancouver's sex symbol and poster boy to local young women? Heck, Stan Smyl looks far better than Lenarduzzi today. The guy doesn't even know how to evaluate talent. How does one explain his ditching of Dominic Mobilio when he coached the Canadian Men? How about the Waterfront Stadium fiasco? Remember all the excitement and hype over a privately built soccer-specific stadium? Our very own BMO Field? I blame ownership for this but Lenarduzzi doesn't escape blame here. He doesn't have what it takes to be a leader of a professional sports franchise. Not like Pat Quinn and Bob Ackles. Those two men worked their way up in their respective sports the old fashioned way. Never lived on the stardom of their names. They had heart and they cared. Let's be honest...when Ackles left for the NFL in '86, it left a big gap. When Quinn was fired by Orca Bay, it felt very wrong. I don't think it would feel the same if Lenarduzzi got let go. To me, all Lenarduzzi is, is a Vancouver born-and-raised original Whitecap, wearing his #5, who rode on the stardom of the '79 'Caps and Canada's goalless '86 World Cup team and coached the 86ers to greatness in a terribly weak Canadian Soccer League.
  16. Here's another problem......DEFENCE. Whose idea was it in the 'Caps organization to trade Steven Beitashour? The club has done a 180 in goals against. Last season, 'Caps conceded 36 goals all of last season, which is only three more than they've conceded in 19 games this season. If the issue came down to money, it's not surprising, based on the way this miserly organization operates. The trading of Gershon Koffe was another huge mistake. Getting very fed up with a cheap ownership group and an incompetent management team, which includes the likes of so-called "Mr. Soccer" Bob Lenarduzzi, that's been dragging the once-storied Whitecaps brand through the mud of mediocrity.
  17. I see a lot of 'Sedin class' in this young man. With the Canucks For Kids Fund and the Canucks Autism Network, Brock is going to be a great hit here in Vancouver - both on and off the ice.
  18. Excellent perseverance in securing a point after being down a man for more than half the game. Great save by Ousted. However, I am losing more and more patience with Rivero each game. Jarju 2.0.
  19. Boeser is looking more and more like the real deal. Still hate the trading of Shinkaruk BUT...if Boeser continues his development at this current rate, along with Granlund progressing, he will make us forget the Shinkaruk trade.
  20. This is the second straight year the Lions have played at home at the same time as the Canucks' home opener. Doesn't happen in other CFL/NHL cities. Only in Vancouver. Why CFL? Why??
  21. Hutton with 3 assists tonight! The kid's looking good so far.
  22. I agree. Ever since Bob Ackles' passing, the club has been spinning its wheels. They should hand out player cards, have other players besides Harris make public appearances. They should also ditch the high-school helmet look by putting a black-orange-black stripe on those white lids with a matching one on the pants.
  23. The Lions will be exciting to watch this season but at the end of the day, this is a very average football team at best.
  24. I remember when Burke called out Kesler's name at the '03 draft. I didn't know much about our future Selke winner at the time. The rest is history.
  25. At first, I thought Benning said "Brock Lesnar". And Boeser and Lesnar are from Minnesota. Seriously, I really like this pick. A big and strong scoring winger who plays with intensity.
