Unfortunately, a quiet offensive night for JV. Only +1 and no points on 9 goals scored.
-
I wonder if GM Scott Bonner is thinking about that right now. With the Memorial Cup being back in Vancouver next season, wouldn't it be great to have a local Canucks top prospect on the local junior team and have him get a chance to win a Memorial Cup in his home area?? And the amount of tickets JV will sell! Wow.
-
And it gets better.... JV not only scored two goals, he was a +2 in a 6-3 defeat at home to a struggling Giants team.
-
JV with one goal in a 1-1 game vs the Giants after the first period. JV also has three shots on net.
-
Good riddance Torts and WELCOME BACK BURR! Just like "Unnold", I knew, when Torts was "Terminated", Burr would "be baak"!
-
Nylander who??
-
It won't happen but how cool would it be if JV got traded to the Giants. Okay, better stop while I'm ahead. Dare to dream.

I tried to look up Gaunce's ice time and I can't find it. I think he is playing 4th line minutes with no power play time. That might explain his lack of production of late.
-
My apologies, Dasein. You did that. Sorry. However, I wanted to show the respective stats of both players for others to see. Nevertheless, I truly like BoHo. What he did in the OHL playoffs that season was what Kesler did against Nashville. But that was one series. BoHo was dominant throughout the playoffs. Which explains why it was great that the Canucks had drafted him. His long term development will make a difference when it comes to battling the California heavyweights in the playoffs in the not too distant future.
-
I do agree that BoHo's numbers with London would be very interesting if he got sent back. He does have strong offensive ability. As for Cassels, he was playing on the third line for, at least, most of his draft year. If Cassels had played in the top 6 that season, he possibly could have been a first round pick. His draft year totals were 64GP-15G-28A-43Pts(as a 3C). Horvat's draft year totals were 67GP-33G-28A-61Pts(as a 1C). Love both prospects. Not that I'm underselling Horvat but I do feel that Cassels is being undersold here.

Let's stop worrying about what Nylander does. If he becomes the Leafs' next Darryl Sitler, so be it. We have two potential 1C's in McCann and Cassels and either one of those guys have potential to click with a player like JV. If only McCann didn't have mono to begin with, then the Nylander talk would be out of the picture.
-
I mentioned this in the Cole Cassels thread that Cassels could and I mean COULD be the sleeper pick in the '13 draft. Both he and McCann have 1C potential, which could make Horvat no better than a 3C. If BoHo can still develop his offensive ability so he can contribute on the 3rd line, that won't be such a bad thing. I also see BoHo becoming more of an offensive player in the playoffs than in the regular season down the road. His defensive game and maturity is tailor-made for playoff hockey. Having pre-eye injury Malhotra available after Kesler got hurt in the SJ series might have made a slight difference against Boston. That's why I'm not all that worried about BoHo if he indeed becomes Malhotra 2.0 with perhaps a better scoring touch.

At least, there wasn't any 'fowl' language involved. Lol. Not allowed on CDC. Great hockey teams have a balance of both size and skill. If a team has shorter but highly skilled and fearless guys like a Gallagher, a St.Louis, a Theo Fleury, and a Tony Tanti(for us old-time Canucks fans), then those very teams need the likes of big guys with a skill set who use their size to their advantage as well as providing room for their shorter and skilled linemates. If JV and Nylander played on the same line together, provided if they were teammates, they would make a dynamic duo. For the record, Nylander is not short. He's listed as 5'11". Just needs to bulk up more muscle to his 169 lb frame.

JV is going to be just fine. I think several people thought that "JV's back!" after his 2g/3pt night in just his second game back. Then, the rust of not having a full summer of training starts to rear its ugly head. Let's be encouraged that JV's shoulder has healed nicely since he checked his opponent over the boards in that one game a couple of weeks ago. GREAT hit. I bet that once he gets going offensively, the Nylander talk will die down.
-
I'm not going to flame you, Gooseberries. Your concerns are very valid. It's frustrating when you check a top prospect's team, only to discover that he had 0 to 1 point while his team had at least 5 goals in the game. We saw this same movie with Shinkaruk last year, only Shinks was struggling before his hip surgery and not after. Both were 40-goal guys in the WHL. However, I'm not surprised by JV's lack of production. Like timberz21 said, JV lost a good summer of training. I haven't seen him play but it may appear that his timing is off due to rust. He is doing other things to contribute, though. I would hope that next season, he is back with the Hitmen so he can dominate.

Dickinson, Pierce, and now Lulay. When was the last time a Lions QB wasn't injury-prone? Damon Allen, perhaps? Vancouver is actually a QB graveyard, not a goalie graveyard.
-
I was thrilled when Benning took Virtanen. What if Kassian doesn't take his game to the next level?? JV is very much like Neely and Rick Vaive, another power forward who was traded by the Canucks and blossomed into a 50-goal scorer in Toronto. I'm not surprised that JV's goalscoring is down, due to the rust of coming back from shoulder surgery. Great to see that JV's assist totals are up. It shows that he is becoming more of a complete hockey player. I like Nylander and he will be great. However, a player like JV can never be passed over. Especially, when being a local boy who has dreamed of being drafted by the home team is a huge added bonus.
-
I wonder if the Lions had broken the CFL record for penalties/yards in penalties in a season. Never have I seen such a huge lack of discipline from the Lions. I know the league is cracking the whip across the board but as for BC....this is absolutely ridiculous. Lack of discipline....coaching.
-
Nylander was my initial choice. However, with the likes of centres like Horvat, Cassels, and McCann, I was very happy the Canucks drafted the local power forward. What if Kassian doesn't "get it"? With Virtanen's package, I see Cam Neely and Rick Vaive, two future 50-goal scorers at the time that were traded away and both were hard-working and fearless fighters. Will Virtanen bury the ghosts of Neely and Vaive? Who knows. I just hope that he is given as much time as he needs to develop because I truly believe that we may have something very special on our hands. As for Virtanen's shoulder, I had no concerns, whatsoever, considering how well Shinkaruk has recovered from his hip surgery.
-
If and I mean IF Virtanen cracks the NHL lineup next year, he should be on a line with Vrbata and Vey. The "Flying V Line".
-
I looked at my Giants schedule and I don't see the Hitmen coming to town. The Giants will play in Calgary. This has to suck. Shinkaruk's hip injury last season and now we won't be able to see Jake in action. Imagine all the tickets being sold...just to watch a Canucks first round pick.

Another great effort by the 'Caps, resulting in two wins in a row. The magic number to make the playoffs is now down to nine. What's really impressive is that should Vancouver qualify for the playoffs, they will likely face Dallas, a team the 'Caps have proven that they can beat. Let's keep it up, guys! -

The 'Caps had that player last year and his name was Camilo, a player who actually wanted to play here. Unfortunately, the buffoons at the little office on Water Street felt differently. -
