  1. I love both colour schemes. For me, wearing the Canucks Skate is going back to a logo that screams Canucks hockey, the speed of hockey and getting away from the Orca. I love the idea of recolouring the Skate and using navy blue instead of royal blue with the kelly green. Navy keeps the intimidating dark aspect like the black while maintaining the BC theme of blue and green. Much like the Whitecaps. They went from royal blue to navy while maintaining the classic double blue identity.
  2. Happy Two's Day, Tuesday everyone! 2 - 22 - 22
  3. Sam, this was the BEST post I've read in a long time. Thank YOU for telling it like it is. The comparison of being an "ambassador" and a "diplomat" in comparison to being an actual "leader" threads the needle. I made a similar comment when I critically compared Linden to Smyl a while back(with the exception of his outstanding '89 rookie season and great '94 Cup run performance). I know you weren't throwing Horvat, the Sedins and Naslund under the bus. Facts are facts. The team captain doesn't have to have a mean streak like the two-faced Mark Messier. However, the team captain needs to have bite. Steamer had it. Original captain, The Big O, Orland Kurtenbach had it. Trevor(for the most part), Nazzy and Hank were simply diplomats. BoHo has regressed over the years. With OHL London and his first 2-3 NHL seasons, he was a bull in a china closet. I know you haven't and I certainly haven't seen that version of BoHo in a very, very long time. All I see is a club spokesman whenever the club is promoting its 2020's social justice activism. In post-game press conferences, Horvat also hides under his ridiculous club mandated ball cap, with the cap's bill shading half of Horvat's face while trying to be diplomatic in responses to reporters' questions. Where was his leadership during Jake Virtanen's early troubles before things got out of hand with JV18? Where was Horvat's leadership with Adam Gaudette before Gaudy was shipped to Chicago? Leaders are supposed to have a strong and positive presence and influence on their teammates. This hasn't happened. I do hope that Coach Boudreau and even Rutherford has/had a good one-on-one talk with Horvat. It's time for #53 to either shape up or ship out.
  4. Minnesota wears all dark green. Dallas wears green jerseys with black helmets & pants. The Canucks would wear green jerseys with blue helmets and pants.
  5. I LOVE the black, red and yellow-gold. However, we can't keep leapfrogging back and forth between colour schemes. I would actually love to have the green jersey/blue helmet-pants combo like Abby's. No NHL team has that look and the Canucks can own it outright.
  6. For away games, I would love seeing this:
  7. Both the Skate colours and our current BC colours are great. Why not just change the blue from royal to navy? Navy blue and kelly green look awesome together.
  8. Yellow-gold represents our beautiful BC sunsets, red represents us being Canadian and black works perfectly with black and yellow-gold. These images are from below the Granville Street Bridge on Granville Island.
  9. Should've happened last night. Better late than never though. Will make a beautiful uniform matchup with the Flames' classic whites. Far nicer than the cheap Checkmark in Rink jerseys. And I will have my jersey ready!
  10. My eyes have opened up about Trevor in recent times. I know I will be flamed for this but I'm calling a spade a "spade" here. Family time or no family time, Trevor has been overrated and overhyped in this market. I will always appreciate his outstanding rookie season and his great playoff run in '94. I even have a white Skate jersey with his name and #16. Yes, his involvement in the community during his playing days was very admirable. We never hear of him being available in the community or meeting sick children nowadays. (NY Islanders great, the recently departed Clark Gillies has always been tireless in the Long Island community long after his playing days. He was extremely active with his Clark Gillies Foundation that focused on working with sick and disadvantaged children. Clark was also a very devoted family man.) However, where was Trevor from his retirement until he was hired in '14?? His Club 16 fitness clubs creation is great but still. He hardly ever makes himself available for Canucks activities or the fans. Even guys from the '94 team like Kirk McLean(Canucks '94 MVP), Gino Odjick, Jyrki Lumme and Dave Babych make regular appearances. So does Steamer after he long retired. Linden, to be very honest, was an underachiever. Scored 30 goals as an 18-year old rookie on an offensively challenged team but never cracked more than 33 goals on much better Canucks teams in the higher scoring era. Linden, with his 6'4" and 215 lbs couldn't even stand up for himself nor teammates. With his skills, size and outstanding skating ability, he should've been able to dominate on a regular basis. Should have been far more prominent in the playoffs besides that great '89 series with the first-place Flames and the '94 Cup run. He was great in the '94 Final. Though I hated the way Mike Keenan bullied him but Keenan said something to Trevor that made absolute sense: "Why be a good player when I know you can be a great player?" I believe Trevor being the team's NHL Player rep during his young prime hurt his on-ice focus. Trevor has become too much of a corporate guy and far less of a people person. Then, there's Stan, The Steamer. Never took a shift off. Scored 34 and 38 goals on sub .500 Canucks teams. Scored 38 goals & 88 points in 74 games. Would've likely cracked 40+ goals and 90+ points if he played in 4 of the 6 games he missed in '82-'83. He played consistently well in the playoffs beyond the '82 Cup run. In spite of his 5'8", 190 lbs size, he wasn't afraid to fight for himself nor his teammates. Didn't need Tiger, Harold & Ron Delorme to answer the bell for him. He even beat up guys bigger than he was, ie. Flames' Gary Roberts in '89 and Islanders' Bob Nystrom in '82. Stan and his wonderful and devoted wife Jennifer became parents to 3 children in the latter part of his career and he STILL made time to be the face, ambassador and voice of reason for the Canucks and loyal fan base. Stan had gone through more hell as a Canucks player with all the constant losing, Harry Neale's mismanagement, the revolving door of coaches including the lunatic Bill LaForge and the highly controversial Flying V uniforms and he never ONCE whined nor complained. He was proud to be a Canuck and he bleeds the Canucks to this very day.
  11. Best ever Canucks captains and Canucks ambassadors, IMHO, are Steamer, Orland Kurtenbach & Henrik Sedin. I will always appreciate Trevor for his outstanding rookie season and the '94 Cup run. Despise Me$$ier.
  12. There are things about Trevor that I'm starting to realize in comparison to Stan. Stan is a true blue Canuck through and through.
  13. Happy birthday to the greatest Canucks captain ever.
  14. CONGRATULATIONS STEAMER!!! 'Mr. Canuck' FINALLY gets his due. So well deserved! I couldn't be happier as a longtime Canucks and Smyl fan.
  15. Absolutely 1000%. For example, if Francesco kept his nose and black horn rims out of it, Benning would have drafted the likes of William Nylander(as recommended by Thomas Gradin) or Nicolas Ehlers instead of Virtanen. Francesco is a micromanaging bully who badly needs to be removed as chairman. For example, he even fired the entire inhouse entertainment team because of they stood up to his micromanaging over the music being played. He wanted to pick all the songs.
  16. Because I happen to LIKE Gilman and his strong potential as a general manager. Two tips for you...1. No need to be rude when you disagree. 2. Team name is spelled "Canucks", not "Cancucks". Otherwise, proofread.
  17. I know exactly what you're saying and you're right. Though I despise the way Trevor was mistreated by Mike Keenan before he was traded to Islanders and his being undermined and mistreated by Francesco Aquilini, something has opened my eyes. Even before he was hired in 2014, he NEVER EVER makes public appearances at Canucks events. 'Captain' Kirk McLean, Cliff Ronning, Greg Adams, Dave Babych...they are seen regularly. Original captain Orland Kurtenbach makes appearances. Even the Sedins make public appearances. Last but not least, 'The Steamer', Stan Smyl has made appearances. I've been a Canucks fan for 42 years now. The greatest Canucks captain and now, ambassador is #12, not #16. Stan is the true definition of a leader. Never played on a winning Canucks team(NOT his fault), save for the '82 Cup run, endured one of the darkest eras in club history in the mid 80's and STILL to this very day, bleeds the Canucks. He even refused to a trade in '87 to play with Gretzky and the Oilers as Stan is from Glendon, Alberta. He wanted to win....in Canucks colours, not Oilers colours. When one listens to Stan talk, there's no malarkey. He speaks from the heart without sounding politically correct/incorrect. Trevor is a very good guy by nature but the guy comes across as very corporate and fake. Great in the community....well, action speaks louder than words. He's been retired since '08. Where is Trevor? We hardly ever see him. A little too full of himself, to put it mildly. The Canucks president's chair is tailor-made for Stan. He's worked in many different positions over the years in the organization and has never forgotten what got him to the NHL in the first place. He has earned it and he deserves it.
  18. Why is Laurence Gilman not on this list?? He understands both the business and hockey side. He knows the salary cap structure perfectly and he knows the Vancouver market. Gilman is also very likeable and personable. He would be a no-brainer.
  19. After three disastrous road games and based on this season overall, it's become very painfully obvious...the entire Canucks brand is broken. There has been absolutely NO leadership and accountability at all levels. Young star players like Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser have regressed. The trading of young prospects like Jared McCann, Gustav Forsling and Jonathan Dahlen, who are all enjoying NHL success right now, and 2nd round picks with the lack of quality coming to Vancouver in return is biting this franchise in the arse BIG TIME. Not to mention the drafting of Jake Virtanen 6th overall which likely impacted GM Jim Benning's decision to draft Olli Juolevi over Matt Tkachuk. Chairman Francesco Aquilini needs to be relegated by the Aquilini family by being placed in the background while new Canucks Sports & Entertainment CEO Michael Doyle needs to be THE boss and hire a qualified GM replacement. Leadership and accountability are badly needed. Benning AND John Weisbrod must go. Weisbrod is NOT a hockey person. Just a former NBA executive who's a "Yes Man". His hiring came at the expense of former assistant GM Laurence Gilman who is very highly respected and understands the salary cap thoroughly. The loss of former director of scouting Judd Brackett will most likely prove costly. All because he wasn't a Benning "Yes Man". Unless these crucial changes are made, nothing will improve. Very sorry for the pessimism but a spade needs to be called a "spade".
  20. Dan Woodley was a fine WHL player and wasn't developed properly but missing out on Brian Leetch truly hurt. Jason Herter was the consensus #1 overall pick in mid rankings. His lack of commitment to fitness and development ruined his chances of an NHL career. Josh Holden was supposed to be a good one...a fiesty and offensive Canadian centre from the WHL but a nasty injury to a tendon in his wrist hurt destroyed his offensive abilities. Shawn Antoski, Alek Stojanov, Libor Polasek, Nathan Smith and Patrick White were "WTH" picks.
  21. The Skate was still the primary crest when the Flying V was on the front. The V was not a logo....just chevron striping instead of traditional hemline striping. It's like the Rangers' 3D drop shadow diagonal wordmark is not a logo. The only time the Rangers ever wore their primary shield logo on the front was for 2 seasons in the mid-late 70's, "the John Ferguson uniforms".
