[Report] Rangers fined $250,000
Dekey Pete replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I hope the owners unify and stand with the Rangers on this one. The NHL is making the wrong move, it sends a bad message. -

Edler To Have Hearing Today [Update: Suspended 2 games]

Edler just looks like he's bracing himself to throw a big hit. Watch the replay from 28 seconds, it's Hyman that tries a move to deke around Edler at the last second, Edler just continues on his same course. It's not like he stuck his knee out further at the last second, it's just unfortunate. Hyman should have just taken the hit instead of trying to dance around a viking. -
And the more you click on those recommended videos, the more you see like it. If you were a conspiracy nut, instead of hockey videos and UFC, you'd see links and videos to Q Anon drops, and child luring satanic worshipping government officials. And if you click those links, you get more videos, and more posts along those same lines, only reaffirming your belief that all this stuff has to be true! I mean... everyone is talking about it! Or are the dumb people just getting louder?

Part of it is amplifying human nature, but part of it is having created a tool that allows a very small portion of society to have an outsized soap box to throw #$@# from. Then what typically happens is other people tag on, and go straight into the whole mob mentality thing which just further amplifies the issue. Meanwhile, the billionaires who created these platforms are laughing all the way to the bank, as this constant engagement (negative, positive, they don't give two #$%s) just drives more advertising revenue to them. Couple that with algorithms that typically favour the worst kind of eye catching, click bait crap out there, and now you've created this environment that really skews what popular opinion is, and what the world actually looks like. A LOT of people can't distinguish reality from social media, it's a huge problem.

Social media is a cancer to society. It's not just athletes that are suffering from negativity, but it's having negative effects on children and adult's mental health everywhere. For the 1 positive story that comes from social media, there are 10 horrible ones to offset it.

Seven years without a clear plan from Canucks brass.
Dekey Pete replied to appleboy's topic in Canucks Talk
It sounds like an excuse, and maybe it is a little bit, but like Benning said early on, they planned this team around normal division opponents. Only at the last minute were the divisions realigned to put us against some very good Canadian teams. Can you imagine if we got to play 1/2 our games against Arizona, Anaheim, LA and San Jose, instead of Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Montreal? This season would look very different right now. Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg carry some of the best players in the entire league. The silver lining is, we should be due for a high pick at the end of this rough one. Hopefully by the Fall we'll have the vaccines out and we can go back to a more normal season. This season is a bump in the road, but we're definitely on an upwards trajectory. -
a lot of negativity on here about last night's game. Canucks had a LOT of really good scoring chances, the WPG goalie got lucky/played extremely well, and the Canucks let in a single goal in 3 periods (not counting the empty netter). I know it's frustrating to watch your team lose in a must win game situation, but it wasn't like they mailed it in last night.

I used to watch Sportsnet Now. It's pretty decent, but not without it's flaws. Depending on the device you're watching on I found sometimes the app didn't always work the way you'd want it to (streams wouldn't load, stopped playing part way through and have to re-load etc.). It seemed to work pretty flawlessly on a PC for what it's worth. It's really a shame that they don't invest more into their app design, because until there are viable alternatives to paying for an entire cable package just to watch one channel (hockey), people are going to continue to look to the internet for illegal streams.

But that's the problem. You still have "parties". That creates these voters who just vote for a brand, instead of the actual person who's running. Which in turn means that the elected official has ZERO accountability to their constituents, when more than half of them couldn't even identify them in a room. Just my opinion anyways, I'm sure many will disagree.

Pettersson seems like the kind of kid who will take a slump like this and use that frustration to make himself a better player. He is devoted to the game and constantly improving. Just wait

As soon as we rid ourselves of political parties and start voting for politicians not based on their banner/affiliation, but based on their credentials and how they will support their constituents, a lot of this stuff goes away. It's too easy for politicians to just follow whatever the party line is and avoid any and all responsibility, when the majority of the population just votes for a colour each election season. It also makes it incredibly easy for the very wealthy to get exactly what they need from whichever party happens to be in power. Fix this, remove ALL money from politics (USA - we're looking at you here) and you will start to see improvement very quickly. Start voting in independents that have no party affiliation. You'll start to see legislation that supports the vast majority of the population, instead of a very, very small portion of mega corps and billionaires. Trump could have been this person to start making some of these changes, it's basically what he ran on, but he's just a lying sack of crap like the rest of them (worse in a lot of ways), only in it for himself and his friends.
