Yes and No. That's a loaded question. Generally yes there is a downside but sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. The extremely dedicated players don't really have an off season and need to be told to take a break. Almost like an addiction. So in theory yes your probably right but it could be what the kid needs to regenerate his batteries.

I sure hope this poster is a kid because if not someone may have been dropped as a baby. Im sure his keyboard warrior response to Tryamkin will gain a lot of traction.....or he may just be a little to busy with that beautiful wife of his. I suppose the world championships might be a slight distraction as well. Then maybe he will find time for @darinbadershouldamadeit tweet .

We can debate whether you think hes ready or not but your nuts if you think the slippery swede will spend more than a 1/3 of the season in the AHL next year. Most if not all of his season will be in the NHL. Were not talking about a player that has good attributes were talking about a truly elite talent. The kid makes everyone else around him better and that alone will keep him in the show.

I would say its extremely unlikely Elias starts in the AHL. He looked good out there. Very slippery, smart, and confident. He will only get better and bigger with time and I'm confident that will be with the Canucks.

https://www.new-iihf.com/en/events/2018/wm I just went off the IIHF website.

I was watching the Canads US game but the stat sheet show 16:54 played and a +1 . To add to that they really spread out the time for defense with highest ice time to Zaitsev at just under 19 min.
-
Yeah sure it was his 3rd time and obviously we all know the 2nd time Finland as a whole was awful but he was also an allstar and had the most assists of all defensemen his 1st go around. As far as comparables in sm liga goes you can look at guys like Klingberg, Lindell, Ristolainen, and Vatanen. All of which he either did better than or had comparable stats. That is a solid group of D there and for me I think Juolevi is just scratching the surface on what he can become. I imagine there will be bumps along the road but his potential is outstanding and something we should be excited about going forward. But I respect the idea of wanting to see more of him over here first just like some want to see Elias excel on NHL ice first as well. I still believe this team will rise to the occasion quickly over the next couple years and be back in the playoffs sooner rather than later. With a young team that will be able to challenge for the cup for several years.

Have no problem with what your saying besides your assertion that he is just an okay prospect and his progression is disappointing. He had a great year in a pro league and took his game up a notch during playoffs. Also was one of Finlands top 3 players at the world juniors and from my view there best defenseman. I have no idea how that screams okay prospect to you?

Really i thought it was awesome and done in good fun. I like when players show some personality and dont act like robots. That's a stretch to find it creepy imo but to each there own right

He should be working on quick pivots and gap control. His body should be use to the weight by now and a strong summer will only help. I believe his potential greatly exceeds anyone we have on the left side but i certainly wont mind some time in the AHL if need be. The kid will be a stud for the team in the not to distant future.

Yeah its a fair assessment when your talking about the transition to the NHL especially for most defensemen. However when some other posters use it as a tool to label the 19 year old kid a bust, then that is where I have a problem with it. Im glad Sami has an honest and tough approach with Olli. I think hes the perfect mentor for him. Here's hoping Olli has a great summer of training because I cant wait to see him play next year whether its with the Canucks or the Comets.

Your so much like fox news its embarrassing. You have knocked down Juolevi any chance you get and then expect everyone to fall for your troll attempt hook line and sinker. Ill trust @Rob_Zepp every day before I trust your opinion. One person actually exerts knowledge of the game and the other throws crap at the wall to see what sticks. Judging by my post you can guess which one you are. Now bug off so I can enjoy the game.

Make that 2 assists for Juolevi now. Go Olli Go!!!
-
I really didn't think he would get in that quickly either or I would have attempted to find a stream. Glad he is though and thanks for the vid Sid .

Just checking the scoreboard and it looks like Jasek has his 1st point already, an assist. Im pulling for Lukas he has some nice potential. Like a swiss army knife who can do a bit of everything.
-
It was today. They lost 2-0. Still up in the series 3-2. Cant comment on how Olli played since I didnt get a chance to watch .

Fact: Elias could be playing in the NHL at this moment regardless of his weight. Fact: That wouldnt be the smart thing to do as hes still very slight and would either get hurt or wear down. Fact: He will get strong enough to handle the rigors of the NHL and we can all shut up and enjoy his excellence. Whether that's next year or the year after really doesnt matter.
-
@peaches5 Emil is playing at 185lbs now so you can bet Elias will be somewhere between 185-190lb which will be more than enough to allow his elite skill make your jaw drop year after year in the NHL. As a Canuck fan that is what you want isn't it?
-
That is correct and 11 fights previous to that in the WHL.
-
He can definetly defend himself and has had a handful of fights.
-
If his season goes late he wont be with the Canucks towards the end of the season. If there out early then he will sign it is simple as that. There is a 0% chance he pulls a Vesey.
-
Fair enough. Again though just remember these last few games are a small sample size of a very successful season. Dont get hung up on a couple weeks or games. Just like I shouldn't either. For example i thought the last 2 games Virtanen played were some of his best hockey but I wont claim he has arrived. He needs to show consistency which hopefully he is starting to show or will come with time. I still think there are ebs and flows but he is on the right path. That is how I look at Juolevi. On the right path.

@R.Dahlin26 I really do understand the point you are trying to make and you are entitled to your opinion. He is not meeting expectations so far in your eyes and that is fine. You are however taking a close minded approach and not looking at the big picture which again you have the right to. Most of us disagree with your stance as everyone knew Juolevi most likely would not make it until he was 20. It was stated at the draft he would need a few years. He would have exceeded expectations if he made the team sooner than that. At this moment he is on track with his development which again you can disagree with if you like. Just one question for you though. If all you knew about Juolevi this season was the stats he has put up thus far in Liga as a 19 year old and that he was named a top3 player for his team at the world juniors then would you still feel this way about him?
-
I agree he should be making strides to become a top4 dman but I'm okay if he plays 15-20 games in the A just like Chabot did.
-
Yeah but for Pietrangelo it did take 2 years though. A 9 game cup of coffee with 2 pts and -9 does not mean ready. I fully expect for Juolevi to debut next year at some point whether beginning or midway through the season.
