  1. Probably doing their due diligence on which player they would take with there possible 2nd top 10 pick. With all the rumours of Eichel and Reinhart being traded and Buffalo hoping to have one if not both done prior to draft. Come to think of it maybe they are close to finalizing a deal. Would be fun if it's Eichel to Anaheim with the 3oa as part of the package. 1oa Powers, 3oa Eklund
  2. Sure the seasons are different but their use and development in that stage is what I'm comparing and I like more from what I've seen from Olli than what I'd seen from Lauzon at that stage. I like Lauzon but he got those games due to players injuries and partial lack of depth. Did you watch any games he played? I watched ever game in that Washington series, mind you it was only a period, that's all I could handle . After game one were Boston lost with a full healthy d Lauzon was taken out for game 2 and replaced by Clifton and didn't get back into the lineup until the 2nd round. Didn't watch much of that series but I'm pretty sure he was the 5th Dman in term of use until Carlo went out again. As for Olli and this past season, he played good, I liked his game. I'm not going to speculate as to why he didn't play as much pre covid but when he did he looked good and played on the pk. After covid he wasn't fully healthy, he lost a lot of weight it took him longer than others to get some of that weight back, not all, and yes when he did play he wasn't as effective prior to covid but it is understandable. And no I don't think he has be replaced by Rathbone and I also liked his game which is different than Olli's. If Boston gets that return then all the power to them, good that it was another GM taken and not the Canucks. Then Boston can use all those assets to upgrade on Lauzon and their D. Though with Carlo's concussion I don't know if Boston doesn't protect Lauzon now. I'm not sure how the injuries work for Xdraft.
  3. Thank you for this, as I said Lauzon age 23(last year) played less than age 23 Juolevi which was this year. Lauzon at 23(last year) played 19 games. Olli at 23 (this year) played 23. And the last few game he played under weight.
  4. This is only my opinion after watching both of them play this year and Lauzon play last year. At the same stage in their career Olli has played better than Lauzon. I think Olli will be that Tanev type no need to give all that up when you have one already. Woo I don't know I haven't seen him play this past year just heard the reports from the coach's in Utica. Whom probably know more than you and I. Next year's 2nd could be used to move a cap dump(s). By some advanced metrics Marincin is a good Dman. But aside from your advanced stat evidence from hockey reference have you seen him play much?
  5. Lauzon (24), who is a year older than Juolevi (23) ,last year at age 23 Lauzon played less games, less minutes than Olli did this year and was more sheltered than Olli was this year. So I wouldn't say that Olli is that far behind him. Part of the reason Lauzon played more this year was the massive amount of injuries Boston had on their D will no veterans to fill in. Boston has been looking for D help for the past 2 seasons. It's why they are once again in on OEL and any other D available. They also hope to get a good D pre Xdraft as they feel they have a protection spot available for that Dman. If that is their thinking then I don't believe they are worried about losing Lauzon. I like Lauzon I was hoping the Canucks would have been able to draft him but alas no 2nd rounder that year
  6. Olli has played real good this past year. After the team came back from covid it was mentioned that Olli lost a lot of weight, it took time to get some of it back but still he wasn't at his pre covid weight. I'm not sure if people realize how hard that is, to play after being that sick and losing that much weight, especially in pro sports. It takes months not weeks. Rathbone played well but he wasn't sick he had momentum from playing some AHL games before coming up. He was able train, skate etc. That's huge
  7. This is a massive over payment any which we it's sliced. Carlo had been injured a lot this season and played a lot with injuries, even then Lauzon hasn't out played him. Juolevi, in his limited games and time, has played very good, I'd say better than Lauzon has. But I've only watched a handful of their games this past season. Juolevi most definitely will be more than a 6 or 7 D in this league. He will be a very steady solid number 4. A 2nd alone is too much let alone adding Woo. If Boston is afraid to lose him for nothing then give them a 3rd at most or they can lose him for nothing. As no team will give them more than what Vegas got for Schmidt
  8. To me this makes the most sense. Both players have same term almost same aav. As you mentioned horrible ES players. Keith may perform better in Edmonton as he'd play a lot less minutes per game then he does in Chicago (23+).
  9. As @Alflives mentioned, Edmonton does make sense with James Neal going back. I've heard that Edmonton wants to move Neal this offseason. Also Klefbom might be out longer than thought, may not be back until well into next season. That leaves Nurse and Russell on that LD side. Holland wants a veteran LD as well. Neal for Keith makes sense. Seattle make sense if they get a sweetener they like. Calgary I don't see it unless it's Lucic for Keith and Calgary thinks Keith may offer more than Lucic. Vancouver makes zero sense nor do I see a fit for Keith here.
  10. I liked the Miller trade. If it's one of those 3 left, I can see Benning making the trade for Reinhart as he has wanted him for some time now. Which in turn would mean that Reinhart is better than the player(s) left there at 9. I personally think it will be either Geunther or McT there at 9 and I'd rather have Reinhart then either of those 2 as they are both 2 to 3 years away and I don't think will be better than Sam
  11. It would have to be a draft day decision, with several partners waiting around. Depends on who is there at 9? if it's a Dman, especially Clarke keep it. If it's a forward not named Eklund, depending what trade is in place ie: top 6 forward or top 4 RD I'd move it.
  12. I wouldn't mind if the Canucks gave up the 9th for Reinhart provided it is done at that draft if none of 4 Dman are there and it is only the 9oa. If it's Guenther, Johnson, McTavish I'd take Reinhart as he can play C as well, though I know Johnson can too but Reinhart has shown it at the NHL level.
  13. I doubt that the Canucks are the team that will acquire OEL. As to what was mentioned, the Coyotes are working on a trade and if the price is agreed upon then they will see if OEL is willing to accept going to that team. Which more likely means not Boston or Vancouver, his preferred destinations last year. It could be any team really, more likely an Eastern team that thinks they can make the playoffs and compete ie :Philly with Gostisbehere or Pitts: with one of Matheson or Pettersson on the way back plus some other way of evening out the money. Personally OEL is a good Dman but not what this team needs.
  14. I'm sure they will get it done by hook or by crook. It's just a rumour about them possibly playing hardball to try and keep his cost down to allow them to keep as many players and team intact, especially since Makar will need a new contract in the same range or slightly higher than Landy. Whether he gets to UFA or if it's another higher end player that may be in the 5.5 to 7 mil contract I'm confident that the Canucks can move some cap to be allowed a chance at a player in that range.
  15. They were, from what I've read they have backed off as the cost for Eichel was too much and now have turned their attention to Reinhart. It may be 8oa for Sam.
  16. I read a day ago that the Kings were looking into Reinhart and their 8oa pick was up for grabs. Sam may get his wish to be out west but further south. As nice as having Sam would be I'd rather wait and see which prospect is available at 9, if Clarke is there rather draft him than trade him for Sam. Also rumour is Sakic may not have the money for Gabe Landeskog and may hope that he doesn't want to move and try to get him under 6mil on a longer term deal ie: 5 or 6 years. If he gets to FA I'd rather give the 6 mil to Gabe than Sam but that's just me.
  17. Brad Shaw it seems will be running the Forwards and PP while giving Baumgartner some input and possible direction on the D and PK side, that seems to be his bigger role an possibly the associate coach, Green's right hand man, next in command Here is an article in the province by Kuzma today and what Green and Shaw mention. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-travis-green-picks-veteran-coach-brad-shaw-for-critical-role/wcm/16aeaf77-c0e9-4aa6-936c-4f18fb7cb22f/amp/ Canucks: Travis Green picks veteran coach Brad Shaw for critical role 'At times, I’ve been told I’m too detailed or too finite. I’ve gotten better and learned simplicity is a real important aspect ... ' — new Canucks assistant Brad Shaw Author of the article:Ben Kuzma Publishing date:Jun 10, 2021 • Last Updated 6 hours ago • 4 minute read Travis Green, pictured, will be aided by the hiring of Brad Shaw as a Canucks' assistant coach. The first conversation lasted an hour. The second one went on for two hours. When Brad Shaw wasn’t afforded an opportunity to interview as a replacement for departed Columbus head coach John Tortorella — the assistant was surprisingly not retained by the NHL club — Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green quickly sought permission to interview the free agent. What the Blue Jackets may have lost in their curious decision is what the Canucks hoped to have gained Wednesday in hiring the well-travelled and highly respected Shaw as a key assistant to Green. The former defensive defenceman, who logged 377 games with four NHL teams, hasn’t only guided top blueliners in a trio of coaching stops, his ability to deploy responsible mindsets will resonate with a club that has to stop the bleeding. The league’s 26th-ranked defence and 17th-rated penalty kill will get a boost from Shaw’s knowledge because the Jackets sported the best kill in the 2018-19 season. He was also instrumental in helping Seth Jones, Zach Werenski and Vladislav Gavrikov develop into top-tier defencemen and reliable rearguards. It’s why Shaw’s name popped up in the past to fill head-coaching vacancies in Arizona, New York (Rangers), Buffalo and New Jersey, and why the Canucks will deploy the 57-year-old Cambridge, Ont., native in an expanded role. Nolan Baumgartner will continue to work with defencemen and run the penalty kill but Shaw won’t be far away for some sage advice while helping direct forwards and the power play. “Brad brings a lot to the table,” said Green. “Everyone looks at him like he’s a defensive coach, but he’s a lot more than that. He’s a very sharp hockey mind and is going to be able to touch a lot of areas of our team and be a good influence on our staff. “We’ve (Baumgartner and Green) been together for four years and sometimes a different point of view and different set of eyes is helpful. That was a big part of it and I really enjoy talking to people who have a mind for the game. And as a coach, you want to be challenged and broaden your mind and ideas. He’s a new voice for me and somebody I can lean on and he’ll have some good words for Baumer.” Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella stands in the bench in the game against the Detroit Red Wings in May 2021. An example of Shaw’s expanded capabilities came in the 2019 playoffs. He worked with Tortorella and assistant Brad Larsen, who will interview to replace Tortorella, and the trio devised a plan that completely choked the Tampa Bay Lightning, winners of the President’s Trophy. A shocking first-round sweep of the high-octane Lightning, who had four of the league’s top-six scorers and were held to eight series goals, was made possible by a staying-above-the-puck approach and mucking and grinding through the neutral zone. It worked for the first round, but the Jackets were eliminated in six games by the Boston Bruins in the second. Still, Shaw made a statement that he wasn’t a one-dimensional coach. The defensive side is something I’ve done for a long time and always had a huge interest in,” he said. “Your defence has a big role and how they see the game, react and finding solutions intrigues me and always will. It’s always a challenge to get that message across. “I know how I want players to play with habits and attention to detail. To have my hands in everything and have a little bit of a different job description is exciting. With Baumer, I hope to augment him in different ways by getting my point across and not being offensive. “We’re all in this together. It’s getting to a comfort level where you can say what’s on your mind and by being totally honest, we’ll get further ahead. For the defence and forwards, certain habits are important across the board. “At times, I’ve been told I’m too detailed or to finite. I’ve gotten better and learned simplicity is a real important aspect and coaching five years with Torts is as simple as it can get. He has his trigger points.” Those who really got to know Shaw, label him as “a super-nice guy”. If anything, he tends to be a perfectionist and a constant drilling of fundamentals might affect some, but the Canucks could use that right now. They need direction. “This is a steal for the Canucks,” said a Jackets’ insider. “You’ll see results pretty quick.” The Canucks also added Kyle Gustafson as an assistant and special assignment coach. He was assistant general manager and associate coach of the WHL Portland Winterhawks and his connection with Green dates to working the junior bench together.
  18. I like the idea but that is not nearly enough unfortunately for those two, even with expansion draft. Cernak is playing lights out these P/Os and big piece for them going forward likewise for Cirelli. I see them protecting 4f. Stamkos, Kuch, Point, Cirelli, 4d, Hedman, Serge, Cernak, Foote. Sure they expose McDoughagh but Seattle isn't touching that. Which means the will lose a forward (Killorn?). After that, I'm sure they will figure out a LTIR work around somehow (Stamkos' turn ), like this previous year when everyone thought they would lose one of their rfa or whatnot, they will somehow make a trade to get value for Johnson I don't see teams like TB or COL giving up pieces for picks or prospects when they will lose a player in the XD anyways, they will deal with Seattle directly. After the dust is settled and all teams have lost a player or 3 and they know where they are Cap wise, there will be movement. I think after the E.D, leading up to the Draft and during there will be a lot of trades and possibly then some players previously thought not available will be.
  19. If the Canucks draft Brandt Clarke then I'd be interested in a trade with the Devil(s). To bring in his brother Graeme Clarke, otherwise meh.... actually if they'd take JV and gave us McLeod I'd do that too
  20. That would just be too much good news and good vibrations going out to our team and fanbase. That doesn't sell their (papers), direct traffic to their twitter, insta, wannabe blogs etc. or allow all the louts to cry foul on everything
  21. For sure especially in a draft year like this where the scouting was done remotely the difference in player caliber could be huge especially for D. For whatever reason I feel like Clarke will be the best of the bunch just has I thought Werenski was better than Hanafin and the best of the top 3 talked about D in that 2015 draft. Add to that, that he is a RD for me that is a slam dunk pick. The fact that the Canucks have all of their first 3 picks, if they move their 2nd to move up and get Clarke, I'd be really happy as I know they can very likely get a really good C with that 3rd round pick such as a Red Savage.
  22. I like that name Red Savage , I'm hoping and think that Zach Dean will be there for the Canucks 2nd round pick and Red Savage for our 3rd round pick.
  23. Stevie Y and the Detroit staff are the wild card in this for sure. It all depends on what they think the difference in talent is between Wallstedt and Cossa and if they think one of them ( mostly Cossa) will be there with their Washington 1st round pick. I think Chicago takes one of them as they don't really have much depth in G and they take Wallstedt if he is there at 12. If they are set on taking a goalie and it being Wallstedt then they may not take a chance to go further back than 10th the Ottawa pick. Stevie with his first pick in 2019 went a bit off board to take the big German Dman Moritz Seider, that's why I think he may take the goalie at 6. Lets hope he does If Clarke is there at 6th I could see Benning moving up to nab him and Stevie moving back to our 9th to get his goalie and an extra pick or prospect
  24. I don't think any of the 4 Dman falls to 9th. I think the Canucks will have a choice between Guenther or McTavish. I know C is needed but from videos I've seen of both players I'd take Guenther. He seems electric. The way I see this going down 1.BUF (D) Power. 2.SEA. (C) Beniers. GM Ronnie says they will build up the middle 3. ANA ( C/RW) Eklund. Anaheim could use more skill upfront and Eklund, the no. 1 Euro had an excellent rookie year in the SHL, he fits the bill 4. NJ (D) Hughes. NJ has skill upfront could use more on the back end. Luke skating the line on their PP and dishing to Jack will drive the NYR fans crazy. 5. CBJ (D) Clarke. To the dismay of us Canuck fans CBJ gets our guy. With Jones likely gone they need a high end RD and Clarke may end up being the best D from this draft 6. DET (G) Wallstedt. Det has very good prospects upfront and on the back but nothing in goal. Wallstedt fulfills that need 7.SJS (D) Edvinsson. Sharks need players everywhere but more so on D and Edvinsson is last D standing. 8. LAK (LW/C) Johnson. Kent had a fantastic rookie year playing LW at UofM. Kent on the wing with either Byfield or Turcotte is gonna be crazy. 9.VAN (LW/RW) Guenther. I'm sure a lot may disagree and say take McTavish but Dylan's speed, skill and potential is more tantalizing than McT's 10. OTT (C) Lucius. Chaz dropped in ranking due to an injury filled year but he apparently had one of the best if not the best shots in this class. (He may be the Barzal of this class but I doubt that) 11.CHI (G) Cossa 12.CAL (C) McTavish
