Just as @King Heffymentioned the Gaborik contract is what Melnyk wants. He won't move it for LE. Ottawa doesn't need cap space hence they don't need to put a player on LTIR. Gaborik will be on IR, his cap hit will count towards the cap but the team only pays 20% of it so like 800k.

Imagine having to put one of those players for a week to week injury on ltir because their isn't enough cap space otherwise to bring up a Timashove .. that would really suck... Who knows how the season will turn out.. the Leafs have actually been fairly healthy especially when it comes to their more important players. Maybe this season they aren't so lucky.. we will see

If the Leafs want to use ltir, they have that player out for at least the bare minimum 10 games.. So hopefully it's not a players like Marner, Tavares, Matthews ( who has missed about 12 games each of the last two seasons.) any one of these players having to be out at least 10 games could cause a serious blow to their playoff bids

Thats exactly it, Vegas I don't think were able to get close to that cap max where they could utilize the full ltir as they wanted to sign another player or two, they have been trying to move him for some time now so I think a higher draft pick could have been received, but when I think about it the draft pick was not important to the Leafs as i know this helps the Leafs with trying to sign Marner to 10.5 but it's still 10.5. it may have cost Vegas more to move him if it were another team. Hopefully the Leafs don't have an big players injured if they do and aren't able to put them on ltir to bring up replacement players, this team may be in trouble

I am kinda surprised that Dubas only got a 4th rounder for taking that Ltir dump, this does help Vegas a lot actually... I guess Garett Sparks has even less value than the leaf fandom thought

a team can place any player on ltir during the offseason as well as long as they provide the league a doctors note if you will, that said player will miss at least the first 10 games and 24 days of the season. I think that teams can exceed the cap by 10% in this manner, so 8.15million over the cap

I think there is a good chance, it's just that the Canucks may have to wait until the majority of the teams have their rosters in place as a lot teams after they sign their fa's will be near the cap.. I think the most likely scenario is that one or two other players are moved this year, then next year mid July he will be moved after is bonus is paid. I believe that next years cap with increase more than the 2 mill it didn't this year and a team or three will be interested in his services

I'm not a big fan of analytics or advanced stats but the site "hockey reference" has all the info that people may need, I've attached a link to the Canucks page basically LE was the third best PKer for all who averaged over a minute per game, only Stech and oddly Hutton where better. On the opposite end he was one of the worse on the PP that played on average over a min/game. LE had one of the lowest Ozone starts of players that played at least 50 games, he started at least 2/3 of his shifts in the dZone. He was about middle of the pack on the canucks in all advanced stat ratings, ie: Corsi, Fenwick Pdo.. he actually wasn't that bad.. so saying that he doesn't have any value or is not a NHL player is a little off. The best part is what you mentioned last, and why many people are wondering why Aho would sign a contract deemed low, he is now 21 in 5 years he will be 26 and Ufa. Nashville has about 13 million in cap space, with most of their guys signed, Duchene is looking for something around 9 million apparently, so they do have cap room from him. From what G. Laraque said (lol I know very credible source) Duchene is going to Nashville If Habs are going the offer sheet route, I wonder if it will be for D, Provorov or a F Laine, Marner, Aho, Point?

The Canucks cap space availability will be tight but it is possible to include all and Myers. With that projected roster, Spooner and Schaller will most likely start in Utica. The first $1075k doesn't count against the cap so that is an extra 2.1 mil in space giving them 18.6 mil with an 18 player roster. Of the 8 players given QO, Teves, Rafferty, Boucher and Perron will all most likely be in Utica to start the season so their contracts won't affect the cap. For reference purposes, Teves and Rafferty QO are 875k, Boucher 765k, Perron 715k. The QOs that matter Motte and Goldobin are 875k, I doubt either will be more than a million on a year, maybe 2. Lievos is 975k, he could be at most 1.2 on a yr or 2. That is an additional let's say 3.3 mil onto the cap, leaving them with about 15.3 mil in space and 21 roster players. That's more than enough for Boeser and Myers and a cheap 3rd pair dman leaving them with a 24 man roster and if left as is, Gaudette most likely starts in Utica. This is all without Rousell being put on Ltir or other trades and moves that may be made or the cost of the contract bonuses which may be about an extra 4.5 mil, (which I believe could be deferred to the following years cap?) Also Spooner could be bought out instead of sent to Utica which would give the Canucks an extra 1 mil in Cap space. So yes they will be tight up to the Cap but they have 3 salary retention slots for trades and hopefully LE will be moved where if a player has to be taken back in that trade it is for one that has a year so he can also be bought out ie: Boedker, 4 mil from Ottawa. Or they agree to a contract termination, I'm not sure of the impact that it may have on the cap if any. Though I believe that if they do come to a mutual termination it has be so that LE plays in Europe, he won't be able to play in the NHL this upcoming year.

Could be a good pick up for the Canes to add a bit more scoring if Haula's knee holds up. Roy is an ok 22 year old prospect.

Granlund was actually acquired for Shinkaruk, it was Baertschi that was a 2nd round pick, which could have turned out better if he didn't get concussions the last two years. Vey was acquired for the 2nd round pick that they got from tampa i believe for Jason Garret? Sutter they got their 3rd pick back from Pittsburgh and gave them Anaheims 2nd from the kevin bieksa trade.. i think it was like 9 spots different. so they may have taken william lockwood with that anaheim pick anyway?

This also works against the Canucks as they will not know what Hutton will get and how much cap space they will have to either sign FA's that they need or make trades that they may be able to take back salary. Also Andre Burakovsky hasn't been given a QO, and apparently the Caps had received many offers for him during this past years TDL, he could walk for free and I would say he has more value than Hutton
