  1. If that's the case I imagine they think Rafferty or Brisebois are ready to move up. Rafferty is intriguing and would add some offense to that bottom pair. What type of forward are they looking for did they? I would think scoring help - top six winger? Would take a package including Stecher if that's the case.
  2. Have not heard these rumors? Source(s)? I also wonder if that would be more related to Rafferty appearing close to being ready. He definitely has offensive upside over Stecher although I really like Troy's play defensively.
  3. Beginning of March would be great. The Canucks would likely know if he was coming by the NHL trade deadline of February 24, 2020.
  4. All the stars would need to align and he would need to remain healthy. I like Sven but I think it best to find him a new home if possible and free up the cap space. Goldy is cheaper and younger I may hold on to him and see what happens. That Eriksson contract is really gumming up the works and Strombone is still photobombing the cap. $9M schmillion of waste.
  5. Canucks could really use another legit top six winger that will get 50 - 60 points. Doesn't need to be super high end but needs to have some speed and play making ability. I know we all want Baertschi (me included) to be that guy but he never has reached that level and I am not convinced he can.
  6. This plus 2 morning games back to back - 10:00 am PST starts to boot. They lost their legs in the third in my opinion.
  7. One option would be to sign Markstrom to a 1 year extension and when the expansion draft arrives he would be a UFA - no need to protect him. Then he could re-sign with the Canucks after the draft. The Canucks would need to obtain another draft eligible goalie to expose. This is all speculative and a stretch but Edler will be up and be a UFA during the expansion draft and this is why they didn't need to protect him. I imagine the Canucks will re-sign Edler as well if it is still a fit otherwise Edler can choose his destination and likely this was part of their arrangement. . Markstrom would have to be on board and want to stay or at least he would get to choose his destination. Not the best asset management but possible. But Demko will want to be or have earned a starter role by then so it is all likely moot. It is more likely one of them gets dealt. You have to give to get.
  8. It has helped having a partner who always makes himself available for a pass and can skate the puck out of the zone. In past Tanev used to hold the puck longer because he would hesitate making a decision of what to do with the puck - now he knows give it to QH. The forecheckers in the past didn't have to respect what QH can do if they get caught deep therefore they weren't afraid to get caught deep in the Cancucks zone and were more aggressive. I have noticed Tanev is taking way less hellatious hits because of it and is actually able to be more creative and may actually stay healthy. They make a good pairing.
  9. Your opinion matters as much as mine does. If you don't provide yours and yet feel free to critique mine it is an unfair analysis. Let me analyze yours just like you felt comfortable critiquing mine.
  10. Why would they sit a $6M cap hit player who is apparently a PK specialist, defensively responsible and someone they would hope to build trade value in. It's not my bias it is what is actually transpiring - he is in the press box and sitting. The sum of all the parts equals the total. If Green and Benning thought he could still "play" and help the team he would be playing. There is more to this or he would be playing. I would assume Loui is an intelligent person and realize why. My conclusion is based on this. I don't dislike Eriksson as a person - I don't even know him. It is purely logic based on what people in these circumstances would understand - Loui, the Canucks and anyone in professional sports.
  11. I did elaborate - He is still here collecting a check, taking up cap space and putting the organization in a difficult position while knowing he isn't earning it. My conclusion was based on the whole commentary - for you to cherry pick the conclusion appears lazy and a total straw man. Rather than critique my commentary by cherry picking and sounding superior offer something of substance - like your own opinion.
  12. Not really. He is still here collecting a check, taking up cap space and putting the organization in a difficult position while knowing he isn't earning it.. Your post has no substance and is a total strawman. Nice attempt.
  13. Completely disagree. First off just because someone agrees to pay you based on past performance expecting the same performance at a minimum (or better) and you don't perform doesn't mean you have no obligation or responsibility. You hire me to repair your home like I did for your neighbor and you pay me even more and I in fact perform inferior work are you happy. Where do I sign. Taxes blah blah blah. We all pay taxes. If he will sit in Utica to collect the money he hasn't earned over and above the other money he hasn't earned to this point it reflects on his character nothing I need to say nor did I say - and no I wouldn't sit and collect money I didn't earn apparently that isn't an issue for you. I don't care about the SEL he has made more money than any of those players ever hope to make in that league - by a large margin. If he really "loves hockey" and not unearned money he can still play there. You seriously need to get over defending a player who hasn't earned his contract and is continuing to put himself first over a team that put their faith in him.
  14. Nobody put a gun to Loui's head and forced him to take all that money. He knew as a long term pro this is a results based business and with a contract comes expectations and responsibilities to perform. Loui took the contract in good faith understanding this and failed. He has been paid $27M USD to date and played 3 seasons producing 76 total points (32 Goals) and a -20 +/-. That equates to almost $1M per goal. Now he can hold them hostage for another $9M. So one party to the contract is expected to pay up and play nice while the other fails in performing? I say make it difficult for him that's all.
  15. Depends on how he reacts to being sent down. The best scenario is he plays well enough to be traded. Problem remains no one wants the cap hit including the Canucks nor can they afford to retain. He may need help deciding to retire.
  16. His career earnings are absolutely material - if I have no millions I sit - if I have made $60 USD plus millions I consider what else I would rather do than be a joke for 3 years and sit in a Utica press box. There are numerous examples of guys retiring with money left on the table in various sports leagues. After next July (when he get's another $3M bonus) it's $5M remaining. So he makes $4M for sitting this year only. He has to sit another 2 full seasons for the remaining $5M. I would hope he has some pride and can make that in Sweden or wherever if he still wants to play at age 35+.
  17. Well if that is what he wants then sure. He has made over $60M USD in his career and I would assume he has some pride. If he wants to become the (bigger) joke/talk of the league and leave a legacy like that it would really surprise me. Again, who knows. So sick of this.
  18. This topic is so over cooked. Because we don't know what's going on we can only speculate and it has been speculated to death. No one here has any say in the matter and you are going to get all the same opinions already written in numerous threads - only in a condensed version. So if that's the case here is mine which as usual some will agree and some won't. I really can't wait until this is over: I send him to Utica and sit him in the press box - in Utica - for this whole year. He only has $1M left in salary this year with another $3M bonus next July. I say he will retire after that if he can make it through the year sitting out in Utica without retiring. I honestly don't think the Canucks owe him any (more) favors and I think he just retires - at least after next July having not played one game all year and the prospect of not playing one game the following year if he remains. The team is better without him and there is no room for him here or in Utica. He is just a distraction at this point. I give no decent prospects or picks to shed him. Salary retention is not really an option either based on the current cap retention/buyout/Luongo issues. I hate this topic.
  19. Well it wasn't just Pedan that commented. Daniel Sedin uncharacteristically commented as well. Without knowing the details surrounding the comments it's difficult to understand the actual issues or who/what may have been the problem. Sometimes the ultimate decision and actions taken reflect the cause or issue. Maybe they didn't give up on McCann but rather decided it best to move on based on the circumstances. Anyways it could be worse than Pearson as a result - so far.
  20. Here is the article that includes the comments from Pedan, Bartkowski's Mom and Daniel Sedin: https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/jared-mccann-acted-like-lonely-star-says-andrey-pedan-1.2266811

  22. Bertuzzi made that line what it was. A true power forward - big, fearless, great hands, pretty good wheels for a big man and a mean streak with the ability and willingness to back it up - dominant for a period of time. He gave Naslund and Morrison time and space to do what they did. Somewhat like what Kassian (on a smaller scale he is no Bertuzzi) is doing for Deadmonton currently if he can keep it up. This team does not have that in it's mix. This team is missing another top six skilled winger for the Horvat line to put them over the top. I love Baertschi but I am talking a legit skilled top six winger who will get 60 - 70 points and make that line more dangerous.
  23. How would he know the guy wasn't going for a hit? Boeser likely would have thought the same before his recent concussion. Players have every right to face the glass and not expect to get run. Hitting from behind (in the numbers) is against the rules along the boards and dangerous. If he happens to get a reputation for "defending" himself against being boarded maybe it saves him some concussions. In any event I don't think he will be the next Gordie Howe. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/gordie-howe-mr-elbows-detroit-red-wings/
  24. Frankly, I wouldn't use the term proven with Sutter anymore. Unless you have a time machine..... Slow doesn't work in the NHL anymore. The Canucks need a couple more years to get some more of their youth and speed into the lineup and move out guys like Sutter and a few others.
