  1. Eriksson sells 50/50 tickets and gets coffee for the press box residents for the full year. He shouldn't be on this roster.
  2. TG wasn't going to play him. Whether it was a confidence thing, not liking his overall game or how TG see's the team being constructed. It's better for Baertschi to play than sit in the press box or play limited minutes and be in and out of the lineup. Pre-season is not at the speed, skill and contact level of regular season. I am just hoping he stays healthy and proves he still belongs in the league for his sake.
  3. For me the optics are the worst part because of the dreaded LE effect. LE should have been waived too. But for Baertschi's hockey career this is likely the best move for him long term. 1) He needs time to get his game and confidence back. That means top six and PP minutes - if he is going to remain in the league he needs to be an offensive player. He will get that in Utica. 2) This is the best time to waive him if they plan on exactly that. Teams are scrambling to get down to max roster size. Let him play and get his game back without losing him. 3) If another team does have room for him it gives him a chance to play which is fair to Baertschi. 4) TG wasn't going to play him in the top six. Time playing top minutes and injuries to the big club may get him that opportunity as we know how may injuries this team suffers every year. I like Baertschi and wish him all the best. I think he clears, regains his game and makes a healthy return.
  4. The issue I see with that third line is the lack of a playmaker. I think the Canucks have too many tweeners - third liners. Leivo, Baertschi, Pearson, Virtanen, Gaudette, Sutter - Goldobin just doesn't seem to fit and I think it's time to move on from him hopefully for another project or later round pick. I don't want Gaudette sent down but I don't think the Canucks want to lose assets until they know what they have. Gaudette has earned a spot but it may take time to clear the decks a bit so to speak and sort through all the players. I would like to see this though. Just my opinion but there are so many options and opinions: Ferland Petey Boeser (Gaudette if Boeser isn't ready) Baertschi Horvat Miller Pearson Sutter Leivo Motte Beagle Virtanen Goldobin Gaudette sent down until they can move someone or injury occurs. Schaller / *Eriksson (*I can dream) - waived
  5. I have hoped this is what they would try. Makes the bottom six even deeper and gets 2 centers on each line. Ferland Petey Gaud Miller Bo Boeser
  6. I don't think they do it they don't have the depth. I would have said they will be packing hat in hand again in the first round but Matthews will be holding something else in his hands. They are in huge cap trouble after this year and only have 1 D signed for next year.
  7. I wonder if he gives up his number when the other 21 arrives?
  8. I am hoping Hoglander doesn't need to spend any time in Utica.
  9. Lets Make Number 21 Great Again.
  10. Yeah I don't see the same thing so far in pre-season especially based on the additions like Ferland, Miller and Benn.
  11. I only really noticed the one play involving Beagle in the last game. Otherwise it has seemed pretty vanilla to me especially with the so called fighting for jobs mantra and new guys trying to make impressions. I honestly expected more. Maybe I expected too much. I admit I do like some emotion and good old fashioned physical play - hockey at its finest. Maybe the season will bring that soon enough.
  12. I have watched all the pre-season games (1 live) and frankly I am a little concerned with the lack of apparent emotion/push back from the Canucks so far. Especially because there are a bunch of new guys trying to make an impression and guys trying to make the team - fighting for jobs apparently. Gaudette has been a breath of fresh air with his enthusiasm. I am hoping it's just because it is the pre-season.
  13. 1) Benning plainly said if a (young) player shows up and proves he is ready and earns a job they will make a spot for him. 2) Weisbrod basically said there are ways to make room and "contract status" will not be the deciding factor. 3) TG was pleading with players to "make an impact and make our decision difficult" just like Adam Gaudette did. 4) Gaudette knew what he needed to do in the off season and put in the work to get there. 5) Players are watching to see what happens and if you can actually really play your way onto or off of this team or is it the same old same old like in past when there wasn't enough NHL players available to fill the roster - FINALLY. I get all the asset management blah blah blah but it's time to fish or cut bait with some of these players and move on. Gaudette earned a spot. If he doesn't get one over numerous other players it smells like what it is no matter what you sprinkle on it.
  14. Agreed most of the Canucks would have been guilty. The play this pre-season has not been impressive overall.
  15. Must have looked different live. I watched on TV and the team did not look all that great. I love Horvat but I wasn't really impressed with his game. I will take your word for it then.
  16. He gets his goals but he is extremely one dimensional and his deployment is also extremely favorable. His underlying numbers aren't great and without all the PP time I am not sure how effective he would be. Amazing what a great shot will get you under the right circumstances.
  17. The whole team was bad in the last Ottawa game. Horvat was a -3.
  18. Yes I watched. Here are the game stats for the Oilers game. I don't recall Chatfield standing out in a negative way More ice time than Hughes.
  19. I have liked the way Chatfield has played. Brisebois has seemed more indecisive and has had some bad turnovers. Chatfield seems more confident and ready.
  20. I don't understand how anyone can say Eriksson has improved. Seems like posturing for the inevitable non-waiver backlash. He has not earned a spot on this roster.
  21. Well at least some Bruins fans understand how this happened. Matthews was never Captain material it should be Tavares.
  22. I have him starting on the fourth line at this point with the current depth (barring more concussions) but hopefully he moves up.
