Astronomers Capture First Image of a Black Hole
Borvat replied to prix57's topic in Off-Topic General
Actually if you look closely near the center of this image you can see an actual functional black hole. Despite its invisible interior, the presence of a black hole can be inferred through its interaction with factual matter. The idea of a hole so massive that even light or truth could not escape was briefly proposed by astronomical pioneer and English clergyman John Michell in a letter published in November 1784. -
2019 NHL Draft Lottery | April 9th, 5:00pm PT
Borvat replied to Roberts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Unlucky or................ 3 big American market teams win top 3. No conspiracy just unlucky. 1993.......... 6 Canadian teams no cups in 25 years and COUNTING bahahahahahaha. Oh well we always have Trudeau. -
We could always hope Jack Hughes pulls a Lindros and refuses to sign with any team other than the Canucks.
-
If they get Markstrom extended then it's likely Demko is moved especially with the ED coming up. Depends how much they want the player and which pick. Maybe they move that package for an NHL top six winger or RHD. Either way I would be down with that. Sutter isn't the carrot but depending on the team may have some value.
-
Outside of the top 2 or 3 which we don't have access to I go with BPA as they need wingers and D. If I have a choice I say the best winger available hopefully with a little size.
-
I was inferring that it would be an agreement supported by all parties or not. It seems the current agreement isn't working all that well. This makes me wonder how the AHL age restriction of 20 has stood seems it's a contradiction and could be challenged. But cool story did not know that. Wonder what the US courts would decide.
-
I wish but he can't as he doesn't turn 20 until after December of this year - July 2020. That rule sucks and needs to change. They should change the draft eligible age to 19 and then they are free to choose (along with their draft team) where they play. Or if they keep the draft eligible age at 18 then they "must return for 1 more year of Junior" then they are free to choose. These kids play basically for free long enough. By 18 they have provided their Junior teams enough of a return on their "investment" in the player.

[Discussion] On dealing Tanev
Borvat replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Benning has clearly stated the D needs to be upgraded in the off season. Benning also stated he plans on re-signing Edler. I wonder if that means he plans on moving Tanev (while healthy) if he gets the RHD signed that he is hoping for in FA. Could be part of a package to get a winger for the top six. Or just package Tanev for a younger RHD. Tanev is a warrior but like Sutter he just can't stay healthy. Core is younger would be nice to get a RHD that can develop with the kids. -
I'm not certain you can call what Sestito does as professional . He does get paid so I guess there is that. At least MacEwen can play hockey. I think MacEwen makes the big team next year. He brings an element the Canucks need and he can play. Keep Schenn around as the number 7 - 8 defenceman he has played a simple game and steps up for his teammates.
-
I agree, only I would have hoped he would have a better handle on what's happening in Utica already. Unless he means he needs to head down there to confirm it and or deal with it. He shouldn't need answers after the season is over after what has seemed to transpire down there. Ryan Johnson should have kept him up to date, if he was listening.

Mark Messier talking to McDavid on his cell phone while driving to an Oilers game eating a bag of Lay's chips and a crane with a wrecking ball. Worth a shot.

I am not saying he should be or I want him traded - yet - but Green won't play players who don't clue in. Virtanen may be playing his way out. Green demands his players play within their system, be responsible and use their line mates. Virtanen seems to get lost out there and go on solo missions at times. Wonder if they have determined it's time to explore the market and see what they could get for him?
-
This plus Green's line juggling has to slow down at some point. I get changing it up if it doesn't work but how can you tell after 3 shifts. I think the answer is more mullets.

Well if Orca's represent the Orca Bay era. How about this for the Aquilini era:
-
Finally they are addressing goalie depth and people suggest we part with some - Markstrom. What's wrong with signing Markstrom to a decent extension and trading him once/if they know what they have in the younger ones like Demko, Kielly and Dipietro. Utica needs to stabilize the goalie position as well. No more of the goalie merry go round please in Vancouver or Utica. Plus Markstrom provides some veteran leadership to all these young goalies and players alike. He's a gamer who HATES to lose and he is only 29.
-
Quiet isn't a bad thing for a defenceman. I would be very surprised if he ended up starting the year in Utica. There really is nothing to gain unless he is truly overwhelmed. He offers something no other current Canuck defenceman can, the ability to drive offense.

Well it looks like JB has been working on the D front of late (plus Rathbone) - good to see some decisions/options available. Makes taking a forward(s) in the next draft look more likely outside BPA.
-
I am glad JB is picking up these defensemen especially the RHD. Along with the young D starting to arrive - Hughes - and hopefully on the way - Juolevi, Woo, Rathbone this should bode well. Unless you are getting those high first round picks it's a numbers game with some luck involved anyways. Good to see some depth and options. Maybe the next Giordano is among them...... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Giordano

Doctors aren't always right. He's a young man with a family. Concussions/brain injuries are nothing to take lightly.
-
His pace was actually 19 points this season (6/26=0.23 ppg x 82) but he was playing injured for a part of it. Problem is he is usually injured. 188 games played out of 328 with the Canucks. He has only reached 35 or more once in 11 seasons, but has been over 30 in 2 of the past 5 years.

I didn't know they sold hats at Victorian Secrets.
-
What pro athlete wouldn't. I'm saying it may not be the best decision long term. Crosby shut it down for a prolonged period when his symptoms recurred. He has been fine since.
-
Well brain injuries are sorta a big deal. My daughter was in a car accident 5 years ago and is still suffering from post concussion syndrome. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-sven-baertschi-seeks-concussion-clarity-from-specialist-in-prolonged-recovery https://vancouversun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/sven-baertschi-diagnosed-with-post-concussion-syndrome/wcm/21fe600e-7fb5-4ce8-b3a3-49f09b601b97
