  1. A healthy Gudbranson provides "pushback" by just being on the ice and on the bench. He is respected by other tough guys just ask Hamonic. I think teams have been taking less liberties with Canucks players this year. There are reasons: Gudbranson, Roussel, Horvat , Archibald, Beagle, Schaller etc. Its called mutual deterrent and team toughness. Teams understand it can get ugly if they take liberties. Fighting is way down in the league and only required (in my opinion) when there is a reason. The only two times I have seen a reason to "pushback" were the Pettersson incident and the cross check to Brock by Calvert. Other than that I have been okay with team toughness. Also, I'm not so sure the resurgence of Hutton isn't partly due to the presence of a healthy Gudbranson for a partner.
  2. Fights per year with link to supporting numbers and interactive chart. Seems the league is actually going back in time. http://dropyourgloves.com/Fights/FightsPerGameChart.aspx Based on regular season data. Hover the cursor over the markers to view fights/game for each year.
  3. Once Edler is healthy it would be nice to see them provide opportunity for some of the deserving Utica D (prospects) to give them a feel for the NHL game and gauge where they are in their development. I wouldn't mind seeing Pouliot sent down/waived or traded if possible - I know - and some of the young D given a look. I'm fairly certain Del Zotto will be gone by the deadline anyways. I also hope they send Gaudette down for more ice time once Sutter and Beagle are back. He could use some confidence and minutes. I want them to rotate some forwards in - Mcewen for one maybe Dahlen and Jasek - to see where they are at as well. This is the year to do it.
  4. With Virtanen's speed and improvement on the defensive side of his game the lack of trying him on the PK stumps me. He would be a threat to go the other way and make teams consider this on their PP. Must be a reason Coach isn't comfortable with it.
  5. It's all propaganda. How big is Marner? Listed at 6'0 and 175 (yeah right) Ennis? Listed at 5'9 and 161 (okay) Nylander? 6'0 and 190 (haha). That's just the Leafs. TSN hates the Canucks and always will. Pettersson is going to be a star in this league.
  6. If he has regressed will you post one of you eating Varsal drenched in fruit loops?
  7. Would make sense. The only wild card may be if/when the Acquilini's could make a deal to their liking with the city of Abbotsford. The arena needs a legit anchor tenant.
  8. When the Heat originally left Abbotsford (end of 2014 season) the Acqulinis were interested in moving the AHL team to Abbotsford. They held meetings with Abbotsford city staff (my friend was involved in the meetings at the time he was a city employee) regarding locating the Comets in Abbotsford. The play was actually for the real estate (the arena and some surrounding property the City owns) The City of Abbotsford was not interested in selling so the Acquilinis re-committed to Utica. In 2015 the AHL formed the Pacific Division. If you look at the map there are several teams that need to travel to a majority of games by air. Abbotsford International Airport to California is approx 2 - 2.5 hours. You are likely correct but the Acquilini's are more about money and real estate than they are about an AHL farm teams location especially if it can benefit them financially. I wouldn't be shocked if the team was moved by current ownership especially for financial reasons or opportunities.
  9. The arena in Abbotsford is still looking for an anchor tenant - AHL team since the Flames affiliate the Heat moved on. The AHL has created a Pacific Division and Abbotsford would work well from that perspective. Gold stars are the locations of the Pacific Division. I also think a team in Washington State or Oregon will be in the plans.
  10. Works hard in the off season. Keeps a low profile. Shows up every night. I am hoping he gets prime ice time this year and shines. It's his time, he has earned it.
  11. I can't wait to watch this young group of players develop. Been a fan since team inception and have to admit this is the best depth and quality the prospect pool has ever been.
  12. Would imagine that is pretty accurate. Who do you think 1 and 2 would have been? I am thinking Dahlin for sure but I think he may have taken Hughes second. Svechnikov would have been pretty tempting though.
  13. Pretty excited about and for this player. Whether this year or next Benning and the Canucks hit the jackpot. I wonder if this is the player Benning would have chosen first overall?
  14. I looked back at what I posted and I am not certain where I poo'd on him (or did i offer a different or varying opinion) if you could, please point it out. It was not my intention and I would like to correct it.
  15. Alf needs to get out more. Only in your case the movie is called Pawloose
  16. Maybe not in your case but some of the joking/mocking can get pretty ugly fast and the piling on ensues. As you are a respected poster and tend to be a tone setter I thought you would understand the phenomenon. If I offended you personally I offer my genuine apology. It won't happen again.
  17. Thanks I did know that. I get genuinely concerned for these "kids". I have billeted some and know how seriously success and failure can both affect them. I know Hughes will be a very good player. I also know that he is 18 and time is on his side. But would I love to see him play next year (and succeed) - ABSOLUTELY! PS: if the Kevin Bacon was too much I do have others that may be more acceptable Just yanking your chain......
  18. Here are my quotes. Tell me where they are negative: "I believe he could play in the NHL now. But a year of more practice than games, access to a weight room and trainer and time to work on things like his shot by returning to College for one more year may be the better long term option." "I would love to see him turn pro now - what a story. But a year to develop more and mature may pay some real benefits. Hate to see him get chewed up by the Vancouver media and some fans at the tender age of 18/19 if he doesn't initially live up to the hype." You seem to joke (mock) a lot of other peoples comments at their expense. This is a discussion forum and people should be able to express their opinions without being mocked or ganged up on. It is basically a form of bullying. My post was meant to be funny as well
  19. Amazing how full of yourself you can appear to be. People like you like to spout your opinions, pile up the likes like high school girls on snap chat and mock those who have a differing opinion. If you don't agree fine. No need to be a child. Oh I forgot you played hockey my bad and have now gone on to become a very successful......... Dance double for Kevin Bacon in Footloose? Hughes is going to be a very good player. But frankly those stats below don't scream generational to me.
  20. I get that but it is a long 82 game NHL season and the dog days can come especially if the team is not playing well. I just think a year of development and more practice/gym time would not be a bad thing for his preparation. I say this out of concern for the player and the Canucks long term.
