  1. I admit I reacted rather quickly and a bit emotionally after 40+ years of being a Canucks fan. My initial reaction to Pettersen was based on my desire for a tough and determined Canucks team moving forward. If Dahlen and Pettersen are the Canuck's top line it does cause me some concern. It's dejavu all over again. The playoffs as we have seen are about physically and mentally grinding it out, even for the skill players. It's why I love the NHL. Time will tell. I hope my concerns are proven to be wrong.
  2. Like the PM as well. Team toughness and physical play are missing on the current roster.
  3. Shutdown guys who can think the game and skate are always valuable. I wonder how his transition game is it won't always show up in the points column. Plus I hope Subban finally gets a chance with the big club. He has earned it.
  4. Fair enough but Avery was the bottom. I see some attitude in Tkachuk that will likely mellow with age, but I don't see Avery.
  5. Again based on what proof. I will be extremely happy when I can admit I am wrong. How can you say Tkachuk is Avery and Juolevi is top 4? I hope you are 100% correct.
  6. And I think you can't stand being considered wrong even though up to this point the proof is in my favor. Unlike you when the proof indicates otherwise I will admit it. Not based on your timeline, just plain proof. By the way my point doesn't need to be argued, yours does. Mine is proven.
  7. I just did. Nice attempt at deflection though I will give you that.
  8. Lets make it 5 years. Is that better? I am saying that I would rather have Tkachuk than Juolevi. Based on the current status my opinion is proven. If over time the proof changes my opinion will change and I will admit I was wrong. Until such time I stand by my opinion based on proof. I don't need to wait three years, you do.
  9. What I am saying is based on an opinion that has proof to back it up. What you are saying is stupid because you have no proof. Again, you have it backwards
  10. Uh yes it does until proven otherwise. He has proven he can play in the league, Juolevi has not. You have it backwards. Once Juolevi proves to be a better NHL regular I will change my opinion and you will be "proven" correct.
  11. Well I like what I see and I like what we would get. With Juolevi sure, maybe, one day he will be better. Maybe and one day don't make him a better pick than Tkachuk.
  12. Pretty slight and seems timid. Not sure how he will stand up to the NHL playoffs when the going gets rough. And he is known as a perimeter player. Does this sound good?
  13. Plus they need the type of player Jake was touted and drafted to be. Fast, physical winger who can finish consistently, I'm just not sure he has the hockey IQ / skills to be that player at the NHL level. I see his ceiling as a Raffi Torres (solid third liner). I hope he proves me wrong.

Actually we have too many bottom nine forwards. We need a legitimate top three either via draft, to emerge from within or be acquired. Horvat is the only one who has shown the ability to possibly become one over the past year although he is still not proven. Boeser may as well, time will tell.
  15. Totally agree they are 2-3 years away from being much better as long as the stay on track. A top two pick this year and a top 5 pick next year would really help.
  16. I totally get that. Virtanen needed to be re-set so to speak. He lost a couple of development years. I am hoping he takes off from here. The package is there.
  17. I don't disagree, I just like watching skill as much (or more) as physical tough two way hockey. It just seems the game has gravitated more to a two way, defensive, dump and chase, don't lose rather than try and win style of game. Takes the excitement and beauty out of the greatest game on earth and stifles skill. Again I like all aspects of the game. If the Canucks don't have a McDavid or Matthews or the like they are going to need 2 or 3 guys with skill to make up for it. Goldobin, Baertschi and Boeser need to be able to play to their strength's or it's going to be the same old boring cycle and dump and chase hope not to lose games.
  18. I think its a mix of players playing their roles, but collectively I agree they need to play a team game. Look at how the Oilers are constructed again. I believe they have the right mix of players playing their roles. A very good "team" that mat be a top defenseman away from being a great team. The reason? McDavid and his skill, not his defense. Take him off that team and they likely miss the playoffs. I just don't understand trying to coach the skill out of players and the game. Help them to be responsible yes, but not to the point of taking the sheer joy, passion and skill out of their game. I admit I prefer watching a 5 - 4 game versus a 2 -1 double overtime game. Personal preference I guess.
  19. And this thinking is why Baertschi is oft injured and Gaudreau is not the same creative player anymore. It gets coached out of them or they get frustrated or injured. Gretzky, Lemieux, Bure made plays and the grinder/role players did their jobs. Now its all about positional play, defense first and don't think about turning the puck over or you will sit. Yet the trap and dump and chase are the norm. I miss Bure, Gretzky, Lemieux, et al and their freedom to play hockey like it was meant to be played. What we see played most nights now is boring.
  20. I totally agree. Teams need skill in their top six. Goldobin's strength is his creativity and offensive I. Q. why not use it, nurture it instead of trying to make him something he is not. If he doesn't fit move on but please don't take something this team desperately needs and ruin it and the player. He isn't a bottom six forward.
  21. The post indicates they aren't drafting or signing size/speed/skill/physicality - top six players. What attributes are left? Then says stick at it. Kass was dealt for basically nothing (because he was missing what JB holds in high esteem - character- the only thing not previously mentioned) and isn't here and Jake hasn't made it and some people think he never will, specifically top six. That's seems like a contradiction.
  22. Pretty blanket statement, you included every player attribute possible "size/speed/skill/physicality". What's left? That would mean they aren't looking for any top six players. Then you contradict yourself by saying stick to it. Which is it? Stick to what? Put a little more effort into your responses, it makes it look like they haven't drafted or signed anyone. It's insulting to the other posters who put in an effort.
  23. I would agree with you if it was not this close to the end of the season, for a number of reasons: 1) He needs to see and feel the NHL game to appreciate how hard he needs to play, the speed of the game and what kind of conditioning NHL players commit to. The level of hockey being played is great right now nearing the playoffs. He will get a real taste and see what he needs to do in the summer to make the team. 2) He will get a chance to see how professionals conduct themselves, even when the games don't count. How to be a pro. 3) He can bond and make friends and connections and see how the other young guys train. 4) If Utica makes the playoffs he can join them in a run after the NHL season is over - its a win / win scenario. 5) If he is sent straight to Utica and they don't make the playoffs (and he doesn't happen to perform well) his first taste of pro hockey won't be a positive one. He also misses out on seeing what the NHL is like until next year and won't get to spend any time with his future team mates. Give him a taste of the show, get him hungry and maybe a bit humbled. I think its a good investment - Just my two bits.
  24. I mentioned in another thread that Jake hasn't been properly developed, especially over the past few years. The Hitmen organization did nothing for him and the Canucks not wanting to send him back there made sense. The problem being they couldn't send him to Utica so he floundered in the NHL, not being prepared. Jake has always been "special" and by that I mean he has been able to get by with less than maximum effort and preparation based on size, speed and skill (God given talents). I believe if he can commit to his craft, understand what it takes to succeed in the NHL and is given time to mature he can be a good one. I personally think another half season (or full season) in Utica couldn't hurt him. He basically lost two - three years of development prior to this stint in Utica.
  25. Gotta admit not seeing this as super sexy so hoping for the JB inside scoop on this one. Noticed he's a RH other than that not blown away.
