  1. If the onslaught of young forwards arriving or soon to be on their way doesn't convince him to work harder and prove himself he won't have long to worry about it. He will likely get a new opportunity elsewhere. I hope he figures it out.
  2. I'm not on the bust train. Just need to be convinced he is top six. It's up to him, as I said above I am pulling for him. I think he ends up a decent 3rd liner in a couple of years. Not great for a #6 overall pick. I agree Utica is the place for him, I said this at the beginning of the year. He should remain there until he starts producing consistently to ensure he gets a solid foundation and won't regress when he hits some adversity. Some players take longer and need more development time. I'm just not sure he will have the determination and work ethic to stick it out and develop into a 3rd liner. I could see him quitting hockey actually.
  3. For me the obvious choice is Megna. But knowing WD who knows, Megna is the new Linden Vey (Not meant to be mean towards Vey knowing his personal situation just a reflection on WD's tunnel vision)
  4. Just confirming it's speculation, which I don't buy. His character and indications don't point to a holdout, especially at his own expense. Thanks
  5. This is all speculation right. He is not going to play in college for a couple of more seasons after this to play somewhere else. Makes no sense and has no foundation.
  6. I am not trading Boeser. I am imagining him on RW with Bo and Baer. I think that has the makings of a legit top line in a couple of years. From what I have seen and heard their games will compliment each other quite well and they seem to all have the same character and commitment to the game. I'm pretty excited to see them play together. If we can find another top six center I am pretty hopeful this team is on the way back up. The defense has depth and a good mix and the goaltending looks stable.

  8. I think the Juolevi pick would have been fine if Virtanen had proven he would stick with the big team and that he would most likely be top six. I didn't see that last year, just glimpses but there were signs he wasn't what they hoped he was I think a forward was in order instead of Juolevi based on organizational need. I must admit I wasn't sold on Tkachuk, but in hindsight he would have looked good with Baer and Bo. Too bad the Canuck's fell so far in the draft and the so called "sure picks" at forward had been taken. JB went BPA in his opinion. But there is always the trade route. The Canucks do have defensive depth and solid goaltending depth which is always a strength to deal from. Virtanen will need to draw deep now and prove himself. He has dug himself a bit of a hole. I am pulling for him, but it is now up to him. Heck even Pool Party was sent down to the AHL. So question: Pool Party or Juolevi? That could possibly have been an option and I would have taken Juolevi. Hindsight is amazing.
  9. I found a few articles when I googled "timeline for Erik Gudbranson wrist injury". In this one they quoted him, however, a few mentioned it was lingering including some ligament repairs and bone chip removal. It could have been something progressive. When a joint gets damaged, if not repaired properly, it usually lingers and produces complications. Pretty debilitating for a hockey player especially if your compensating and likely avoiding contact.
  10. He has been suffering from his wrist injury since October and it sounds like it was a problem that started even before that. Sounds pretty limiting actually. See below. Would hate to sell low on this guy: What we do know is the injury started bothering him pretty early in the season, likely near the end of October. By the first week in November, he had started seeing specialists, trying to figure out his options. That went on for weeks. “It was sore for the better part of the season,”Gudbranson revealed By the end of the month, it was clear he was going to need a procedure, it was just a matter of when. The injury was problematic. It was to the wrist on his dominant hand. It is that right hand he has always counted on for leverage, using it often, just about exclusively, when pushing players in front of the crease and along the boards in attempts to win battles. “I had some ligaments re-attached and some bone chips removed,” Guddy said. “There were some pins in there. “I tore ligaments and bones that shifted because of the instability. It got really tough to do my job. “Holding a stick was difficult. The biggest thing with me was my inflection backwards and pushing guys. “This is the hand I use to guide guys, so it was really tough. If I’m in a board battle or in front of the net, this is the hand I’d be pushing with.” Is that enough to reconsider your position on Guddy’s season? Or are you ready to trade him?

  12. I'm starting to believe the Canucks don't think Virtanen has a confidence issue, rather it's a pouting issue. I'm seeing a player who thinks he doesn't have to try and expects that eventually he will be given what he wants, because I'm Jake Virtanen - 6th overall pick. His comments and approach tell me pouter not doubter. This is probably why they are trying to get him to the point he realizes he must take/make/earn his own way. The confidence and reward will follow. What is given never means as much as what is earned. He has never had to earn it, he better learn or it will be gone.
  13. I think the reason people wanted Tkachuk (or any other forward) over Juolevi may be that the Canucks have much greater depth in the D prospect pool than forwards. After Virtanen and Boesser the cupboards are pretty bare. If you look at the best player available I might have taken Juolevi. Only if I believe he is quite a bit better than any remaining forward, including Tkachuk. I'm just not sure I don't take a forward with that pick. Hopefully Benning is correct about Juolevi. The fact Jost and Boesser would have played together for a year in college would have intrigued me. I like Jost's game. To be fair to Juolevi his style of play has been compared to Lidstrom (I know) and I can see why in certain ways. He is calm and smooth, no panic in him. He is usually in the right place and makes the right play/first pass consistently. He seems to be able to slow the game down and read the play. Not sexy but helps you win.
  14. He needs to mature and commit to training harder in the off season. The skills are there when he applies himself. He had lost his confidence and was floundering. The NHL isn't a forgiving and nurturing environment, Utica will be be a better place for him. I think if he figures out what it takes and is able to stay focused he will be fine. If not, like a lot of others before him, he will fade away. Overcoming difficulty is not in everyone's make up. Time will tell.
  15. Sami is that you? Come back Sami........
  16. The longer this goes on the more it sticks - in his mind and on his reputation. "Every player needs to earn their ice" So help him earn his ice. Teach him how to play an NHL game. Before he is ruined. Travis this is where you step in.......
  17. He has too many distractions in this market. He is too comfortable and I think some time in New York away from friends and distractions may help him. The press box won't help him get his game together. Maybe a couple of months away will do him and his game some good. Let him ride the bus and see how the other half lives at the AHL level.
  18. Please delete my topic regarding Ryan Miller to LA Kings should have checked proposals.

  19. In my opinion it's a maybe. This team has a need for speed and skill. If the role is a tough guy grinder, I want someone with size and speed. Dorsett has neither. Again, just like Burrows a great guy but the level of play isn't there. There must be guys who are good team guys that can actually play. And for less than these two are paid. Burrows looks slow and ineffective.
  20. Raymond had so much potential, but potential doesn't materialize on the perimeter unless you have a world class shot. Etem reminds me of Raymond, speed to burn but rarely shows up in the middle of the ice where games are won and lost.
  21. Man I sure wish Boeser had left school this year. I know all the "he needs to develop" stuff but watching all these teams with young talented forwards and then......the Canucks, It may also have helped convince Cagiulla to come here. Man we need to catch a break soon don't we. Is it just me or do we seem to be as unlucky as all get out lately.
  22. I live in Abbotsford. Met him at a golf tourney this summer and a few social events. See him at the gym often. All I will say is he isn't in shape and he does like to have fun. Having said that he seems like a good kid and is happy to be a Canuck. Like all of us he does need to grow up, let's remember he is still only a kid. But I'm not convinced he has the dedication and mind set to be a top pro based on what I have seen and heard, even if he does posses the skills. Time will tell and I hope he is that player we all want him to be. For his sake and the Canucks.
  23. Pedan is 6'5 and 215 lbs and a devastating puncher. Pedan was fearless and feared before the goon that ankle skated over and gave him his last concussion.LaPlante would be better sticking to the middle weights which is needed as well.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

I hear you. My lineup would look like this in my dreams: Sedin, Sedin, Rodin Baer, Horvat, Eriksson Etem, Sutter, Hansen Zalewski, Granlund, Virtanen

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Any lineup I see with Burrows in it anymore makes me think - waste of cap space and opportunity for a better/younger player. I know he is signed and I know he will likely play. But I see a past their prime player, albeit with the heart of a lion, and feel bad for him and the fans. I hope it doesn't become a focal point as in "why is Burrows still playing and who's spot/salary is he taking that would benefit the team more?" The decision to let this play out and see what happens, of all the recent decisions, causes me the most concern. Hope I am wrong - #nomoredramapleaseluongoschneiderkeslerwasmorethanenoughforawhile PS: I didn't realize that Rodin was Captain for Brynas and all at the age of 25 as well. I have a good feeling about this one. I think with the Sedins help he could become a player. He is also a LH shot who plays RW. Ring any bells?
