  1. It looks likely that Tryamkin's team (Avto) makes the playoffs. They would have to play pretty bad to drop out completely. 62 games total for the season. Look who is dominating the KHL. Our very own Linden Vey. Maybe Willie D was onto something.
  2. I know TG likes his players to be on their handed side RW and RD. I wonder how he will deal with Podkolzin being a LH RW. Hopefully it won't be an issue.
  3. Check out these highlight clips from the Finland US game. Two elbows and a direct boarding from behind. Perspective is important. https://www.tsn.ca/finland-s-gm-kristian-tanus-not-facing-suspension-vs-team-canada-at-world-junior-championship-1.1421746
  4. Agreed. This is the sad part in all of this. Tough for an 18 year old kid.
  5. This latest penalty is not even close to vicious or blatant - linking them is not realistic. Look at all the players getting suspended in these IIHF games for contact to the head. Yet a Finnish player throws a flying elbow at a US player, knocks him down with a bleeding nose and gets nothing. So if it gets called is this player now a bad player or is he not because it didn't get called and noone is talking about it on reddit. I say perspective is just as important as objectivity. As in this is getting blown way out of proportion in my opinion all based on the one bad hit that we all acknowledge was bad which apparently will follow him - like it did Edler?
  6. I don't read comments on reddit. Hoglander threw a reverse hit like a lot of players - especially smaller players - do. He got his elbows up and shouldn't have. It's people tying this latest penalty to the other one that is my point. Edler has been suspended several times in the NHL. Is Edler considered a vicious player now because of multiple suspensions or does reddit decide?
  7. Maybe he is following in Mad Dog Edler's footsteps.
  8. Watch the video. Has nothing to do with objectivity. He did nothing wrong. If you see it as a vicious or blatant head shot that is your opinion. I see a smaller player getting their arms up to brace for contact (to protect his own head) and as they impact his elbow comes up. By saying you aren't comparing someone to someone then you use that someone as a comparison it kind of discounts your caveat. Just say what you mean.
  9. There is nothing nasty about that hit. He was preparing for impact and got his arms up to protect his head, his elbow comes up after initial impact as a result. I have zero issue with it. He should protect himself. People labeling him a rat and comparing him to Tom Wilson are being ridiculous.
  10. https://www.tsn.ca/sweden-s-nils-hoglander-ejected-from-world-junior-semifinal-1.1422345 What a joke. Incidental contact Hoglander looks to be bracing for the hit. No intent to injure.
  11. I think a playoff or playoff bubble team that needs depth scoring and or has injuries nearing the trade deadline may just take him on. It won't cost them anything other than salary basically. He only has 1 year left after this year. Although his Cap hit next year will be $3.36 Million his actual salary will only be $2.4 Million. It is possible but more likely at the deadline if he is healthy.
  12. They could have Svenislov Baertschiev for quite cheap. One can only hope.
  13. I think someone may take Baertschi on if they miss out on the first wave or have too many injuries. He only has one year left after this year and he can still contribute in the right situation. He just doesn't fit TG's style. I wonder if Montreal may be somewhat desperate after all their recent injuries up front.
  14. He plays a 200 foot mature game which is one of the hardest things to get a young player - especially a high draft pick with high end offensive skills - to buy into. PK and PP and trusted by his coaches. His potential to be a really dependable and productive team player are pretty exciting. Tarasenko maybe He can always work on his skating if it in fact is an issue. His style of play will help get him into the NHL sooner and help him stay.
  15. Hate/brutality and toughness aren't the same. If you watched the Sedin's or paid any attention to what they accomplished while taking all the abuse - physical and verbal - throughout their careers without skipping a beat and don't recognize how "tough" they were I can't explain toughness to you. Is this toughness? Like many elite skilled players they will never be known for their physical game or retribution. There are too many players to list for comparisons. But very few come close in comparison to them as role models and leaders in the sports world. My son was lucky enough to have them to idolize as sports stars growing up. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/hidden-strengths-canucks-greats-daniel-henrik-sedin/
  16. Bettman's involvement isn't just speculation for me. It is tangible. Nothing material happens without his approval or design. His goal of entrenching hockey in the US and "growing the game" has obviously been a major part of his decision making. Look at the markets in the US and all the effort to grow them or make them viable even after they have technically financially failed. Yet Quebec can not get a team or Hamilton and Winnipeg had theirs taken away. The Vegas Knights entry draft is a classic example. They will be competitive and at the top of the league for years straight out of the gate. Bad ownership has something to do with it for sure. But there have been/are bad owners in the US as well. It should have evened out somewhat.
  17. So true. 1993 is the last year a Canadian team won the cup - 26 years and counting. There were 6 Canadian teams as a constant while Winnipeg was out and 7 when they were in. Basic math dictates that a Canadian team should win the cup once every 5 years or about 20% of the time. (6.5 Canadian teams / 31 NHL teams or 6 / 30) Bettman must have a different calculator than me. I assume it's the taxes and market frenzy free agents avoid. Also, Canadian teams/markets don't tolerate constant rebuilds - Florida and Arizona. I would welcome a Canadian cup and would cheer for anyone outside Toronto.
  18. Without next years $4.375 Million possibly at the deadline if he was able to stay/be healthy. I don't see how anyone takes him after the last few years unless the Canucks retain significant salary. Especially how this year has gone when all of his problems were supposedly behind him. I wonder if he will ever be fully healthy for any period of time again. All of these wasted cap dollars are really starting to pile up. The next couple/few years will be tight - no more room for mistakes.
  19. Basically like playing in the ECHL at best - two levels below the NHL. Everyone has been waiting for you here in the Palmu thread. Welcome back.
  20. Very true you have. Dahlen will have much lower expectations from his team and easier competition. Good fit. I do like my chicken bosses. I guess playing in the relegation league in Sweden is the most direct way to the NHL.
  21. Make up your mind. You seem to be confused - often. Here is an article quoting Benning. I trust Benning before Dahlen or you. Can't wait for you to spin this. https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/jonathan-dahlen-requested-trade-sent-to-san-jose-sharks-for-linus-karlsson-1.23645383
  22. I can't put my finger on it but it seems TG is either playing "not to lose", doesn't have faith in his players or is coaching to keep his job rather than trusting in his players to get the job done. He leans heavily on the players he feels safe with way too much. All of those (or any combination) don't bode well for developing young offensively gifted players. They need the ability to play "their" game to a certain degree and have the confidence of their coaches that if they make a mistake it won't end in being stapled to the bench. If not they will get frustrated eventually or worse their development will get stunted. I wonder if some of them are at that point already - frustrated. Bo definitely doesn't look the same for one although I wonder if he is playing through some type of injury. Maybe this team has outgrown TG's style and need someone else to take the next step. Time will tell but my fear is that as the younger players are ready to make the jump - Rathbone, Rafferty, Lind, Madden, Juolevi etc. TG won't trust them and let them develop. His coaching style is like watching paint dry at times.
  23. Lind is more top six suited at this point. Hopefully when he gets his chance it won't be solely because of an injury.
  24. Put him on Horvat's or Pettersson's wing already. EDIT: I made this comment around the time Sutter was returning from his previous injury under the assumption they would have Sutter Center the third line again and keep Gaudette on his wing or worse sit him in the press box. If they leave Gaudette Centering the third line that is the best place for him.
