Whats really exciting is the progress hes made with his time up. You can definitely see growth. Utica( with all the TOI it will offer him) will provide fine tuning of his game, and jelling with the boys. Looking forward to seeing him u next year.

He didnt get many quality shots on him but always seemed square to the shooter. He just got bored and added in offensively to help the team. #assist

playing in a contract year

Goldobin is getting the Jake Virtanen treatment this year. we all know he can shoot the puck and has good offensive awareness but green wants more of a 200 foot game out of him. Make him more defensively aware, back check ect. This makes me believe they have plans for goldy on this team. I don't think hes done all that bad playing a third line role and is looking better. In the end if goldy adopts these skills it only makes him a more dynamic player.

Thanks Alf. do you know if hes in tonight?

Is Erik nursing some nagging reoccurring injury that The nucks are trying to keep tightly bottled up? If i remember correctly he missed a game, came back for 1 and then missed the last 2. Any news on him?

Im not sure but the majority of the goals Jake scored this year were shear skill . Top shelf , just above the goalies pads and a rocket of a shot beating the keeper glove side. A couple of "flukey" goals he got were a just reward for the effort hes been putting in this year.

Motte is by far 1 of our best 4th liners . First in on fore check and always hits, and never gets penalized. If others on his line would keep up or go to the net maybe some of his hard work would convert in goals.

Ben Hutton has been playing leaps and bounds better than last year. PP and PK duties while covering for Eddys absence has been spot on. Against top lines with and without Guddy . Hes coming into his own and will just get better ( much better). With the injuries of Beagle and Sutter our deleted D-core has been taxed and pushed to its limits. Stetcher, pouliot, and del zotto have been our weak links on the D this year. Biega has played better then those 3 and should get more playing time. I honestly think if other teams looking for D men to shore up their core will take a flyer on biega (especially his last couple games) when we try to waive him back to Utica.

My hope is that if phagnoof challenges Jake and he responds, Jake holds his own. I think if he loses he might hold back from those heavy hits for a bit until he works the confidence back up. Jakes playing high right now and man he looks good ,i'd hate to see him set back a bit. On the other hand if he comes out on top of this fight.... i think hell lay the body a lot more and that's a big Canucks win .

yes i agree. but my point is, if he used it more it will definitely produce far better scoring options. Nothing beats a great fore check to pressure the puck out to open slots. Like i said he doesn't need to destroy every hit just has to make contact and roll off . Not just skate by allowing that D to get back in position to assist in getting the puck out if hemmed in. Hes got that power in spades i just think he should apply it more.

Jake has really started to pick it up and the best part is hes been consistant. He uses his god given speed to seperate from checkers or break defensive lines. His shot is getting through and his accuracy his hitting its mark.( a lot less to the chest or over the net as last year). I do believe he has an incredibly hard hit and thats what i think would put jake beyond his projected points total hes currently on track for. He needs to fore check in behind their net (a lot of his heavy hits are on the boards middle range of the ice) put the fear of god in anyone attempting to clear the puck. He is so fast , before the D know it his on top of them forcing a pass or clearing attempt.that is where he needs to make contact not just pass on by.Not killing the guy every time but solid contact, roll off and carry on to the back check. I believe that will open plenty more opportunities up to steal pucks , setup passes from behind the net to EP40 or Goldy. If jake used all his god given attributes given to him (those hes working on to be the premier power forward he can be) will come easier and faster .

Any news if Brock is in the line-up today?
-
Hutton is always on the 2nd pp. Other then the last couple games the 2nd pp couldnt even cross the blueline and if they did was lucky enough to make 2 passes. Not really a true example of failing as a PP specialist . Give Hutton pouliots min on the 1PP and see what happens. Give him a fair shake , cant hurt more than watching pouliot choke back there. Brock over Goldy will help with our PP success ,goldys been a mess. Is brock cleared to play today?
-
the last statement is correct if reversed. Hutton does a lot more of the heavy lifting on that pairing. Especially against a speedy forecheck. todays game will show that with guddy getting turned around alot. Habs are fast on the forecheck. Thats not to disagree with how the pairing has looked together this year as a whole. a very capable pairing ,feeding off each other well. Stecher and del zotto line needs work.

Please explain whats changed or moved on .

For now. Didn't see Hutty get any PP time until injuries occurred. The coaches then decided he was the best to take over the 2PP duties, and doing it well. Whats to say they don't believe he's won out over pouliot and just looking at options. If he seems overwhelmed with this TOI (as mentioned before)and is faultering slightly causing him to not play up to his standards or reach his potential dial him back a bit to regroup. LOL and this is just my opinion and am not pretending to know anymore then any NHL coach . Its easy to say you agree when its the norm.
-
Hutton has had 2PP opportunities yes and with that looked more dynamic than pouliot in my opinion. Holds the line better and gets shots threw ,that leads me to believe playing on the 1PP will translate into better scoring chances with obviously the better of the PP specialists. So why play "ok" when you dont have to.Hughes isn't here yet and Eddys still out . Lets work with what we have atm.
-
Easy fix. Hutty has shown he can manage more TOI effectively. Drop Pouliot to the 2PP and give 1PP to hutty. Work him while hes hot ,see what hes got.
-
Good ole Guntrix. Jakes doin well, guess its time to find another player to prematurely spout crap about. Try looking on the positive side of life for a bit. You might like it.
-
With Eddy out for a while, this is the perfect time to give hutty a good look on the PP. Give him a few games on the #1 PP not just time here and there. Couldn't be any worse than what Pouliot's been serving up over the last couple of games.

That sounds like good news for Gadj if thats the case then
