I have a feeling Benning's other candidate might have been Konecny due to his character/leadership etc, but opted to pick Boeser due to Konecny's concussion history (might be a reason why Sens didn't pick him).
-
I think Konecny dropped that far due to concussion concerns. But anyways, Boeser, Jasek and Olson are great picks. I am reserved about Brisebois until I see how he performs next season.
-
We pick safe and people yell, "MEAT AND POTATOES!". We pick risky and high skilled, people yell, "NEVER GOING TO MAKE IT TO NHL".
-
He can go to the AHL yes?
-
No need to downplay Nylander/Ehlers to make Jake look good man. We needed what Jake could provide. Nylander/Ehlers are very skilled, but I think Jake provides what our team needed.
-
Yup all JB; not like there are MANY other GM's that pass by them.
-
Maybe he was just bummed MIN didn't take him. Give these kids a chance. I feel more disappointed by some comments on here than Bieksa's trade not going through.
-
Oh yes, because everyone looked thrilled. I bet McCann absolutely hates us.
-
Can already see people ripping him for not looking happy.
-
Great pick. We might have some Canadian-bias, but I am fine passing on Merkley/Konecny.
-
Except you don't even know you've won yet. With that level of hindsight, why don't you also include not drafting Benn, Karlsson...etc?
-
Ehlers and Nylander are probably discussed more than Virtanen in a Virtanen thread. Been in Vancouver my whole life and haven't seen this level of negativity; how come all the optimism and patience suddenly disappear when you get onto a Canucks forum?
-
Predictions have him trending one way and his actual performance could have him trending another way. I am uncertain about CA's predictions because they always leave an escape route for themselves when they are wrong and take full credit when they are right; it is like writing nothing at all.
-
And by pointing it out, what have you achieved? Should we all just be pessimistic about our Canucks prospects and completely dump on them? It is weird to see how many people can not see reality and want to build a time machine. I guess Sedins will never rebound due to age decline and trade Edler for a 2nd or 3rd because of -39 for a year. Am I pessimistic enough now?
-
I think "most" scouts said he would be the "ideal" 3C in the league. Top six center potential with the right line-mates. His playoff performance made me doubt CA's prediction to be quite honest.
-
I agree. So many Jake haters say his supporters are blindly defending him, but I don't believe that is true. His highlights from his draft year looks very appealing (I dare say it was impressive even to Ehlers/Nylander lovers). It is true this year is "disappointing" stat-wise, but can we not give the kid a chance before labelling him a bottom-6 grinder? Drouin was the Calder favourite going into this season, and yet he was benched for the playoffs because his game is not complete. He destroyed the Q offensively and yet his regular season production was similar to Horvat's while playing similar minutes (Drouin scored 3 of his 4 goals on the PP). Give some time before writing these kids off.
-
Drouin is -6, 0 0 in 6 playoff games. Bust already right? No future at all.
-
Why is it STILL about Nylander or Ehlers? Stop living in the past. I see everyone pointing out his stat-line and yet his critics do not back their claims with any actual insights beyond PPG. I can look up Drouin's stats at the moment and call him a bust, but that would only be one side of the story.
-
Similar to how early it is to decide Jake's future.
-
Barzal, Harkins and Jake are pretty good friends right?
-
Wow someone with actual insight! Very well written and props to you for not predicting Jake as a 4th line grinder like many on CDC.
-
First 2 were OT games; they were blown out in one without Jake.
-
Many predicted Horvat will have a 30 point ceiling. Could still be true in the future, but I would rather wait and see.
-
Mostly 2nd and some 3rd line. Played on the 1st line with Tambo and Rankin when Hitmen couldn't get offense going. Played LW/RW/Center at different times throughout the season and 2nd PP most of the time. Mind-boggling how he was used that way.
-
Playing on the 1st line in WHL this season...? Someone didn't follow his season at all...
