I really hope the teams can have a good start. Another bad start is going to kill the confidence of the team. It is getting more difficult due to a huge hole in the RHD position.

[GDT/PGT] Preseason Oilers @ Canucks / Oct. 9 / 6:00 PM Rogers Arena
ruilin96 replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
My biggest beef with Green this pre-season is his deployment of Garland. He should've been given more time with better quality line mates. He should've been out there late in the game to tie the game up. No idea why Chiasson was out there so much and get so many key situations. I can only think of this as it is a Brock Boeser place holder. But with just over a minute left the tie the game, I would've rather Garland, Hoglander or Pearson out there instead. -
I like his game. I really hope he can be a solid 3rd pairing D man for us going forward. He fits with the age group as well.

Expecting you to have a good night in front of the home fans tonight Petey. No pressure though, if you don't score don't worry because we rather you score when the games matter. -
I dare McDavid to drop the gloves with Bo. It came close a few times but he never actually did. I would love to see Bo beat him up in a fight.

Words cannot express how happy I am to see Petey and Hughes on the ice together again. What a fun game!

[Report] Sharks claim Jonah Gadjovich off waivers

I hate the Sharks. -
I came here for some Travis Hamonic updates and I had to double check to make sure I am not in the wrong thread.

Are JP Barry's tactics affecting your opinion of Petey and Quinn?
ruilin96 replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
If we take it from the players side: They spent their whole life training, practicing and improving to where they are today. They don't have a very long career compare to most other professions. One has to maximize their earning during their playing days in order to secure themselves for the rest of their lives. I have no problem with the player doing every thing they can to get extra money in their earning. Because once they retire, they have very limited skills for any jobs outside of the sport. -
If Gadjovich does make the team, I will like to see him as a net front prescence on a PP unit. Big body, can create havoc and he also got the hands to shove in the garbage goals. Would like to see him develop this aspect to his game.

[GDT/PGT] Pre-season Game 1: Canucks @ Kraken 6:00 PM
ruilin96 replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
They are playing a lot of regulars over there. I don’t expect us to do the same. I can see we drop this one. -
I was anti Benning for basically almost everything he did last off season. E.g. letting Tanev, Stecher and Toffoli walk. Didn't work hard enough to get rid off Beagle, Roussel those bums etc. I am glad he got rid off the bums and brought in quality players who can actually play in the line up so I am going to give him a chance this season.

[Proposal] Van - SJ Kane comes home
ruilin96 replied to Odjick the Warrior's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Don't want him anywhere near the Canucks locker room. If you hate Virtanen, then Kane is 10 times worse. -
I am gonna rank players by tiers. Tier 1: Bo Horvat Tier 2: Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes, JT Miller and Thatcher Demko Tier 3: Nils Hoglander, Tyler Motte Tier 4: Vasili Podkolzin, Tanner Pearson Tier 5: Brandon Sutter, Tyler Myers, Travis Hamonic Recent departures: Tanev, Edler, Markstrom, Toffoli and Stecher all belongs to tier 2 Adam Gaudette on tier 4 before he got traded. The 2019-20 season Gaudette was Tier 3 but he dropped to Tier 4 base in the 2021 season. Also please don’t bring up unconfirmed rumours as I don’t think it is fair to slam a guy down with these hearsays. I strongly recommend reading Gaudette’s wife’s recent journal/update about what they went through the last few months. Schmidt, Holtby, Beagle, Roussel and Player Name. Please GTFO from the team tier. Yes it isn’t fair to group Beagle and Roussel with the 3 names. But they are overpaid and genuinely good guys. But when you have to watch some former tier 2 players leave because of their contract, I just can’t like them anymore. Player Name is just Player Name. Schmidt and Holtby does not get along with the locker room and the room was very divided last year and they have their own little clique. For that they deserve to be on the GTFO tier. Lastly… Virtanen gets his own tier. I am beyond disappointed with this guy. Even when I know he won’t be a bonafide top 6 player, I was still rooting for him to be a regular NHLer. I can’t root for him anymore due to those allegations. Yes, one should be innocent until proven guilty but given his history I am just too disappointed and I am glad he had moved on. He doesn’t even deserve to be on the GTFO tier. I left our guys like Dickinson, Garland, OEL, Halak etc. as they all haven’t played a game as a Canuck yet. I have also excluded guys like Highmore who IMO just haven’t played enough games for me to decide which tier to be in. I know it isn’t fair that I included Podkolzin but I can’t take him out. Everything I learn and read about this guy is just fantastic: Vasili Podkolzin and Nils Hoglander can move up to as high as tier 2 pending on the events of this season.

[PTO] Tobias Rieder with Ducks

No, he has to score 10-15 goals so the Ducks can make the playoffs. -
[Signing] Flames sign Erik Gudbranson
ruilin96 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Erik Gudbranson is perhaps one of the least impressive shut down defenseman I have watched live. I have been to 15 live games since 2016. I have seen a lot of defensive/shutdown/hitting defenseman either playing for the Canucks or against the Canucks. A lot of names were people who makes fun of online. The list of names includes Luca Sbisa, Roman Polak, Codi Ceci, Luke Schenn to name a few. Luca Sbisa: I had my mind set that Sbisa is not a very good player going into the game. But after watching him played live just once, I understand why he still consider to have value by GMs. He does look better live than he does on TV. In live games, I notice he does seems to be at the right side of the puck more often than not. I can tell he is aware of what's going on around him. For some reason, he just looks a lot worse on TV, but I could have also been to one of his better games. Roman Polak: Same with Sbisa. He was rumoured to be old and slow and a pylon by the time I went to a game. However, watching him playing for the Stars that game, I understand why he still has a job at the NHL level. He knows where to be and knows when to body check a player. May not be flashy, but GM/Coaches know what to expect of him. Codi Ceci: Again, he gets ripped apart by a lot of fans on the internet. I watched him with the Senators one game and I actually think he was pretty decent player and knows where to be when a play develops. These are things you won't notice on TV, but in a live game situation and being in the building, you will notice it. Luke Schenn: I went to his first game as a Canuck. It was against Anahiem on TDL. The day where Gudbranson was just traded for Pearson. Luke Schenn played because of the void Gudbranson left. I immediately notice how much better and effective he is than Gudbranson. I understand why he was drafted high. He may not be a flashy defenseman, but he is always on the right side of the puck, keeping the puck in the zone, getting the puck out and body checking opposing players at the right moment. These are all things we hope to see from Gudbranson, for years and I saw them all with Luke Schenn in his first game as a Canuck. Now onto Gudbranson... Unfortunately, Gudbranson doesn't seem to know what to do or where to be most of the games I have watched live. He never gave me the "ya, now I know why he is still in the NHL" vibe that I got from the names I mentioned above. Most of my memories of Gudbranson was just him getting caught out of position, sprawling on the floor and lead to a scoring chance or goal against. He has never manage to impress me in any of the games I have been to. I had more vivid memories of good plays made by guys like Tryamkin, Biega, Del Zotto, Pouliot and Hutton. If you ask me about Gudbranson from all the games I have watched, my most vivid memories of him was his fight with Michael Hayley. Other than that, was just his facial expression after he was on the ice for a goal against.
