[Signing] Flames sign Erik Gudbranson

Hutton, Gudbranson, Pouliot, Del Zotto... those were the days... -
Can't state how important this is. The 2020 team was one of the tightest group I have ever witness, seeing all their close friends who wants to remain here leaving and bringing in a bunch of guys who doesn't fit don't want to be here really ruined all the magic and chemistry the team built from 2020.

Tucker Poolman is leading the Canucks #1 whipping boy board with the departure of Eriksson, Beagle and Roussel. -
Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
ruilin96 replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Petey: 6 x 8-9 Qunn: 6 x 7-8 I am not afraid to commit longer terms and higher cap hit on both players. I don't put much value in the stats last season. Shortened season, limited number of opponents, horrible schedule and gong show of a season in general. -
[Discussion] Are the Canucks now a legitimate playoff team?

If Demko is still in their heads let's say we steal game 1 on the road with a Thatcher Demko shut out, we could actually pull off the upset. -
This is an off season filled with big moves and significant changes to the line up. The general concencus coming out of the 2020 off-season (before the season even started) was not very positive as the team lost more quality players than they gain. This sentiment was proven to be right after a disastrous shorten season in 2021. The 2021 off season, the Canucks made significant changes to their roster coming off of a disappointing season. The team on paper should definitely be a much better team than the 2021 team. It shows clear sign on management improving and looking to pick up where we left off in the 2020 bubble playoffs. My question is, do you believe this current Canucks team is better than the 2019-20 Canucks team? This is more of an assessment on whether or not this team is improving. Note: Obviously, I am aware this isn't a fair comparison as there could still be more moves to be made and if this Canucks team are in a good position by the deadline, we could pick up additional players to bolster the roster. I am just curious to see what your thoughts. 2019-20 Canucks Line Up in the buble: Miller - Pettersson - Toffoli Pearson - Horvat - Boeser Roussel-Gaudette/Sutter-Virtanen Motte-Beagle-MacEwan/Sutter Eriksson Hughes - Tanev Edler - Stecher Fantanberg - Myers Benn, Juolevi Markstrom Demko 2021-22 projected Canucks line up: Miller - Pettersson - Boeser Hoglander - Horvat - Garland Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin* Motte - Sutter - Highmore/MacEwan OEL - Myers Hughes - Hamonic Rathbone - Poolman Juolevi, Schenn Demko Halak

I am generally very optimistic about OEL. I think a fresh start is exactly what he needs. He is only 30, exact same age as Hedman. I hope he can atleast bounce back to a reliable top 4 defenseman who can put up points from the back end. -
I don't see this as a downgrade from Grubauer. Kuemper put up bery good numbers on a bad team for 2 straight season, his stats took a hit last year but it could be due to the fact that he had to face the Avalanche and Golden Knights way too many times. Kuemper with Colorado in front of him could bounce back to his 2019-20 form easily.

We should be as long as we are not decimated with injures especially on the blueline. Not gonna lie, this blue line scares me. -

No wonder why Eddie Lack chose to be a realestate agent at Phoenix as his post hockey career.

He could probably sell that and buy a 1 bedroom condo in DT Vancouver. Housing market here is nuts.

We had no problems scoring goals in 2019-20, we did struggle with offense last season due to lack of depth in the forward lines. Virtanen and Gaudette took a big step back and Beagle, Roussel and Eriksson were blackholes offensively. Bringing in Conor Garland solidifies our top 6. Hoglander should be better next season and we also get the addition of Podkolzin. I think this team can really do some damage offensively next year. Preferably would want another decent scoring center for between Podkolzin and Pearson to add some depth scoring. Ideally: Millter - Pettersson - Boeser Hoglander - Horvat - Garland Pearson - Scoring Center - Podkolzin (checking line with more scoring upside) Highmore - Dickinson - Motte (checking and defensive heavy line, may end up with more minutes than the "3rd line") Defense: Hughes - RHD (via trade or UFA) OEL - Myers Rathbone/Juolevi - Hamonic? I see Schmidt being moved to recoup some draft picks that we have lost in the cap dump trade yesterday. At the same time, it gives the team more cap flexibility to re-sign Pettersson, Hughes, Dickinson and Garland. Demko Holtby?/cheap 1 year UFA? This is actually a solid line up if we can fill in the holes with the right personnels.

Similar age as Shea Weber when he arrived in Montreal, so I think OEL will be fine here. Keep in mind that this is a player who waived his NMC and willing to list Vancouver as one of the teams. I have a good feeling about OEL will rebound once he put on a Canucks jersey. He doesn't have to be OEL of 4-5 years ago, all he has to be is a dependable 2 way defenseman that can relieve the pressure of Quinn Hughes, that would be huge. I look forward to watch OEL.

[DEBATE] Which #35 in their prime are you taking?
ruilin96 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Thatcher Demko no doubt -
Unpopular opinion. Habs are very overrated. They got a Toronto team without Tavares after the first period of Game 1. Then despite leading 3-1 in the series, the Leafs knocked themselves out with their pathetic and inconsistent play in games 5-7. Winnipeg had a lot of rust in game 1, but the turning point was the hit Scheifele conducted on Evans and he gets 4 games (for a guy with 0 prior history). Habs also thrived playing against Canadian teams over the last few seasons (10-3-2 record last season), but are absolute garbage against American teams (if you do the math, 21-28-7 last sesaon). They were also the only team got swept in their season series agains the 2019-20 Red Wings. They lost not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 games to Detroit last year. They got lucky being put into a pool of teams where they have a good record against. And especially the Canucks, for some reason, even when we were a godo team, we struggled against them. This divsion is gift wrapped for them. They fluke into the playoffs and fluke into 2 series wins. I don't care what anybody say, and you can downvote me all you want, but this is the most overrated team in Canada at the moment. In a regular 82 game schedule where they have to play everybody, they are always a mediocre team and I am willing to be they miss the playoffs next year. PS: I don't hate the Habs, in fact them, Senators and Jets are the 3 Canadian teams that I like (Canucks not included obviously), but i just feel like this is a year circumstances align for them to have these kind of success.
