2023 Canucks Development Camp
Pure961089 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Prospects / Farm Team
A lot of buzz around Christian Fitzgerald, I wonder if the Canucks can sign him, they have the inside lane advantage already with him being here before collage free agency opens up. And he can play all 3 forward positions as reported by Faber. 2nd best skater behind Willander. -

The OEL buyout was a smart decision. In years 3 and 4 the payments are pretty hefty but the Canucks are playing 4 D chess with the way they have it set up. In 2 years from now all our slow cooking kids like Klimovich, Raty, Jurmo, Lekkerimaki, DPetey and Willander will be ready to step in on their elc. Not saying all of them will be Canucks regulars but I'll hedge my hunch that some of them become core pieces. -

Love watching this guy skate. He can generate some serious speed when he gets going. -

The Canucks have accumulated depth for the first-time in a long time. Sasson might be more NHL ready but he doesn't have a lot of upside. The Russian is a good prospect but he needs more time. -

All the Hughes kids were taught to skate by their mom. And they're all phenomenal skaters. -

Our defensive depth is more deeper now than at anytime during Benning's 8 years of turmoil. We had a handful of prospects withering on the vine. Now we're committed to putting time and development into our picks. What a novel idea here in Canucksville. -
With Ian Cole the Canucks not only got a versatile RD/LD it they also got themselves another player development coach. Lol.

So how did all your mock draft predictions go? Were they good, bad or worse than mine? Curious. I didn't have Danielson going 9th that's for sure.

I like this clip. Nice compilation of his defensive work.

Our problem hasn't been drafting it's been rushing players and stunting their development

Yeah Willander at his floor is still a top 4 D. There's just too much talent. I like Willander's floor a lot more than Benson's

He might not be as creative as Quinn but his gap control is better and he has dynamic straight away speed. It reminds me of the EP40 draft when all the scouts were sleeping on his talent they had him ranked in the 9-13 range. Our same scouts I feel have done it again.

Love the pick, he has special talent written all over him. The NCAA is the best place for him to get a ton of ice time. He's a breakout machine much like Quinn only he's a bit faster but maybe not as creative as Hughes. He gives me McAvoy, Heiskanen feels.

I remember in the 2017 draft the fans were furious the Canucks passed on Glass and went with the 159 lbs soaking wet skinny Swede. Most hated that pick. When the Canucks drafted Willander I think they saw potential in him most scouts until recently hadn't seen, it feels like most scouts have been snoozing on this kid and taken off guard. All he needed was the confidence to step out of ASP's shadow. He has serious high end potential. He gives me Heiskanen vibes.

The Canucks got lucky in the 3rd roud. He should not have been there at 75

One thing about Hunter that stands out is how calm, cool and collected he is under pressure.
-
Benson if he breaks right could be a special player if he doesn't his floor is a slightly more talented virsion of Connor Garland.

When I saw Benson I tried to project him, maybe he becomes a star and then again maybe he becomes a slightly more talented version of Connor Garland. Hard working, great vision and passing ability, fights through checks all that good stuff. In the end though I think Willander has more predictable upside. I think Garland has good edges and is a decent skater much like Benson, the more you watch Garland the more you appreciate him and what he brings. But it's limited potential. We'll see what happens in the next few years. You never know how things pan out.
