Then a few shifts later Brayden Schenn was on a 2 on 1 (Hughes had pinched) and with his tremendous backchecking caught up with Schenn and manhandled him, took the puck and drove straight down the ice, passed it to a player who returned a nifty pass back and got a partial breakway, nearly scored. That game really sold me.
Throughout the tournament he was used in PP and PK situations, however few games he played about 7:30ish minutes. He also had a -1 and that came against South Korea of all teams.
I think at the end of the day, him leaving is probably the better for both sides. Frees up more space for the youth, and Archibald could get a much more prominent chance elsewhere than here, as much as it seems weird considering we're a bottom 10 team.
I wish him the best. He's such a likeable guy.
Ho-Sang said he wears it because he likes Lemieux. I don't see a problem there. They should just retire his jersey around the league if it's going to be a problem.
I don't agree with that. There's a reason why a lot of us are debating whether or not he should turn pro. We've never had a player that we drafted that could start in the NHL the same fall since ever. It doesn't always happen, I would like you to name one player that we drafted that even had this kind of discussion?
When his family thinks that going back to Michigan is "worst" case scenario, I think that tells you a lot on how ready Hughes is to turn pro. I'm not suggesting he plays in Vancouver, I think the best place for him is Utica.
Kinda reminds me of Shinkaruk, his skating style, speed, and his very accurate shot. And he cellys real hard like Shinky. Shinkaruk was my favourite player when he was with us and if he progresses well like Shinkaruk did with us, he could be an intriguing player for sure.
Edler is great at keeping the puck in play, he's saved so many plays from the blue line, but his zone entries are just terrible. That being said, if Hughes isn't on our roster he's still going to be our 1D and our defenseman on the PP. Pouliot being the other PP defenseman. Otherwise, the rest aren't good PP d-man.
There could be as many as 4 centerman taken in the top 5 next year. It's a really deep draft for centerman, at least in the first round.
I think it's going to be a 2010 Hall vs Seguin type battle between Hughes and Newhook, with Turcotte and Dach right behind those two. Though, it is way too early.
Whether he goes back for another year alongside his brother or turns pro, either way, i'll be happy.
Though, I think he's going to turn pro and play in Utica.
Don't think I've ever had a feeling where we drafted someone and thought immediately this kid could have an impact the same fall. It's almost as if we won the lottery.. it's a good feeling.
IMO, Hughes makes the team. He has to, he's already our best defenseman.
Would probably cost the top 10 pick, Juolevi, probably Horvat, 2nd and 3rd rounders, another 1st, possibly even more.
Would you do it if it meant getting Jack? Man that would be hard decision but personally I would.
I remember his PPG being very close as well. I think he had like 16 pts in 18gp before he got injured.
Had an injury plagued season. Kid's only 17 years old, hopefully his role increases next year.
Personally, I think the GM’s went overboard with the “ignore size, and draft speed and skill”. Samuelsson is 240 lbs at 18 (6’6”). Like, he’s a bad skater... but is anyone a good skater at THAT size when they are 18?
