Horfat Wallet was an even worse captain than Naslund. A stat padding puck sucker. A true dumparoo!

At the time Horvat was named captain It was him or tanev or Edler, everyone else was trash or just brought in... He did his best with the disaster line up and lack plan attitude the team ownership had at the time.

We all saw how Tanev was treated .. and elder also walked.

They clearly expected a quicker turn around. Draft Horvat, Jake, Demko, Boeser, OJ, etc And team built.. I know that order is slightly out

Wasn't till Petey and Quin were on the back burner the real build started, even Demko if he doesn't perform this year and next will be moved, its really a perpetual thing... but blaming Horvat for being the captain after the time following a 10 year up doesn't make sense. Naslunds career was ruined by a cheap shot that was rectified but albeit aggressively... Or he would maybe have helped a cup final so... What your point?

IMO Bo would've been worth every penny of $6.5M and maybe even as high as $7M, but $8.5 is waay above his level.

Yeah I was gonna say Bo even at 7 would be worth it, that'd be ideal to have Miller taking draw with Petey but playing wing. Sucks Bo needed that 8 +

Hughes has already had 9 Norris trophy votes in his career, Dahlin has had zero.  They are both getting lots of votes this year.  Hughes defence has improved greatly from last year when he received 9 votes.  He had more points than Dahlin this year, better +/-, played more minutes on the PK.  Hughes is 49th in on ice expected GAA, Dahlin is 115th.  Hughes is 113 in on ice high danger shot attempts, Dahlin is at 98.

They are closer than you think...

Totally, With the right partner eventually Hughes defensive stats will go up even more too. He's already drastically better than his second year.

Would be great if we could trade Myers and Beauvillier with retention and get some slightly pricey big, physical guys to fill out the depth.

    Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Mikheyev
    ________ - Miller - Boeser
    Garland - Suter - Podkolzin
Pearson - Blueger - Joshua (not massive but at least they'd offer some pushback and scoring ability)

If Hogz comes in flying I wouldn't mind seeing him in that #2 LW spot even, thats a dream situation if they can move Myers and move out Beau too and bring in a upgrade on RD, that is massive win this off-season!!

WE MISSED PLAYOFFS BY 13 POINTS. WE STARTED THE SEASON 0-5-2 WHERE WE LED BY MULTIPLE GOALS FOR THE FIRST 5 STRAIGHT GAMES TO START THE SEASON.

If anyone thinks this isnt a playoff team this year because of

    1) Demko’s slow start

    2) horrendous goaltending for nearly 4 months without Demko

GIVE YOUR HEAD A BLOODY SHAKE.
we needed f***ing 13 pts. We EASILY could have had that if we didnt blow the first 5 games and if Demko was healthy 1 week earlier.
    OR

    If Demko didnt get injured?

Despite Demko’s injury and length of time he was out, we only missed by 7 wins with 2 goalies sporting a nearly 4.0GAA

DOES ANYONE REALIZE JUST HOW CLOSE WE ACTUALLY WERE TO PLAYOFFS??? ANYONE?????????? My god. This was literally a matter of one health body, losing our #1 goalie for half a bloody season. Scoring was there, goaltending was not there to back it up.

For anyone to doubt this core’s ability to have an impact on winning games, please just go watch another team.

Dude Demko was pretty bad to start the season too(injuries/bad start) he has to start the season in good form injury wise and mentally, and when Martin came in he was really good not for long unfortunately or we might have made it because of him, if he could maintain the first few games he played. The team played terrible enough to get a coach fired after one season. Three coaches in such a short time says it all, this core (the same -boho)  has a hard time staying competitive! It's not a sure thing we make it to the playoffs either. Last year we had a red hot Bo horvat too that helped us get some points. It's just not so one sided. It's quite close to 50/50 if we make the post season, a lot of other teams improved their chances too. Good teams make it past bad injuries. If we weren't so cap pressed you go out and trade for a goalie if your #1 goes down and then I bet we would have made it last year.. since we're rolling in with the same goalies minus Silovs steps forward, quite the rookie still nhl wise too. We could easily see an injury to a key player keep us out of it again. Overall the teams better but by how much? Definitely not contenders this year to easily make the post season. No one I'm the biz has us making it easily. I don't get why your so cheesed! Pretty realistic to say we could be in or out this year..

  6. If anything I'd say this interview with Petey shouldn't come as a shock, at all really.. it should put some fire under some butts though. I like the improved D and think it can be a 2000% decrease in GA (exaggerating obviously) but should be way better. But I still don't like seeing how a lot of people's line up includes Beauville in the #2 LW spot. Imo that guys showing last year was typical of a new team boost followed by a more realistic finish. I'd love if they can find a way to move a winger with a pick and a prospect for a more bonafide #2 LW. The top line should be Petey, Kuz, Mik as they were dynamite, a true top line and young enough to improve drastically! That leaves Miller most likely Boeser with, Hogz, Beau, Podz, (some people's options) PDG etc.. none are ready as of now (Podz/Hogz see where they're at) to be consistent 20+ goal scorers and/or top gun play makers. Also none are the pwr forward type to create space and be worth it in another intangible way.. if they want Petey to sign long-term let's take that one last step to go from fringe a playoff team to competing with Vegas/Colorado/Deadmonton /LA?

Yeah, i agree with this. The Canucks haven't demonstrated nearly enough to warrant their own players giving the organization discounts. Discount for sucking? No thanks. With that being said, it worries me that EP40 isn't as confirmed to sign long term. Him signing short term gives me the impression that the jury is still out in his trust with management and where they're heading. He probably has Benning PTSD just like the rest of us.

f**k Benning and his regime. They f**king screwed us over.

Yeah the continuous spending/lengthy contracts. Now we got another that will nullify the raise in cap for the next several seasons... Yay! I think there's a chance though that we make the playoffs still so don't loose hope, IF I'm still watching every game after the all star break I call that a win. The last few years I watched a lot of partial games or skipped them completely so.. it'll be nice to be that loyal 82 game family again, I grew up watching every single game I could it's been hard since my two boys have been on this planet. Not a lot of ups!

This is what the NHL wants. That’s why they keep giving us massive road trips to start the year. It’s like giving one team a bunch of penalties at the start of a game. It doesn’t matter if it gets evened out by the end of the game. All early momentum is lost, putting a team in panic mode.

We always have a tough start eh, a 5 game east trip or something in the first 6-7 weeks, it's tough being the furthest west team (considering florida and Tampa etc,  not just east coast Canadian teams ) It's nice Seattle offers us some more (3/4 a year whatever it is) close games. We only have so many east coast road trips but I guarantee they hit us/edm/cal/sea harder.

Definitely us the most screw those other guys. Haha cheers

In all fairness, since EP’s emergence in this league this team has accomplished diddly squat and to a point been a laughing stock while sitting amongst the lower tier of hockey franchises.

We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, we don’t know the convos had with ownership and how they filter down, and we also don’t know the extent to which the media affects a players desire to play here. Lots of travel. Higher tax rate, coaching carousel, etc etc.

if I was EP I wouldn’t be playing this out any differently. He’s competitive and a winner. If this franchise can’t get their shit together enough to *legitimately* even make the playoffs on a median level, why should he handcuff himself longterm to it? Money is great, but without promise or success, the desire gets sapped right out.

I love it that he’s effectively putting ownership on the hot seat. What I fear is that mgmt is tasked to make another poorly thought out deal to acquire short term pieces that kinda gives hope. Rinse and repeat.

In his short time EP has seen a lot of crap go down with this club. Any fan can have blind loyalty and pontificate and project that expectation upon the players, but like I said, true winners want to win and are not satisfied with anything less.

He is a leader. And definitely captain material. Maybe not just yet though. I think JTM fills that role under a Tocchet regime, or it’s at least the shared A between EP, JTM and QH until we see how things shake out.
Naming a captain to go into the season would be ideal though  imho.

We better make the playoffs this year. If we don’t this team will get blown apart…

Yeah if there isn't a sizeable amount of improvement it could get ugly. Imagine Petey doesn't stay past Rfa, gets traded if they know he won't sign.  what will Millers attitude be like after that? Hughes, that poor guy will be trying to do it all who knows what happens to him. A lot can go wrong here .. Sure we'd get a huge haul for those two/ maybe Miller too, but maybe the fixes on the D get us into the playoffs! It's not a sure thing imo but a possibility still. Need a good start bro! That's half the battle, can't start out 2-7 or be Xmas time when we hit 10 wins lol or something crappy like that. Hot start so we're in it come the  All star break!

The constant desire to get draft picks is a fools errend. First of all you ain't getting much better than a late round pick and the chnace of getting an NHL player is >20%. Rathbone is not a house hold name and by now scouts are doubting he's an NHL player period. The idea of a sweetner to another trade is likely the best you're going get

Draft picks all day er day

I'm hoping as some sweetener to say Chicago or Anaheim to take on Garland.

Rathbone is good enough to play a "Tyson Barrie" role on either of those clubs. They get a decent middle 6 winger to help shelter prospects, and a young free, depth offensive D.

Yeah man totally agree there, he's ready for a role but needs to be sheltered with a bigger defensive guy, and we already got two offensive guys on our top4, unless Hughes N Hronek play together, they'll be with their own bigger defensive guys. I don't like the idea of Bones with Myers lol rather Myers and Wolly or Briseboi or Irwin etc..

Between our kids, new signings, and players returning from injury, up to half the team could be meaningfully different than last season

    Kuz - Petey -  Beau

    Högs - Miller - Boeser

    Podz - Suter - Mikheyev

    Dak - Blueger - Garland

    ————————————

    PDG - Dries - Åman - Studnicka

    Hughes - Soucy

    Cole - Hronek

    Irwin - Myers

    ————————————

    Wolanin - Juulsen

The defense should be 100% better than last year that's for sure!

Silovs is going to be our #1 in a couple years.  He has the mentality and talent.

Yeah hope we don't rush him though, that's what we all heard about Demko and even he had a lot of rough games in the Ahl and also in the Penticton tournaments I saw him and was scared. Seemed like everything went in on him the one tourney lol. Kinda just did the "yikes" this is next Schneider!

Honestly, Martin will be fine unless he’s thrown into the starting job again. He was pretty good at first last season, keeping Canucks in games, but after a while it became too much for him.

Exactly, I think he'll be fine playing a game every so often. 9 back to back games, get him another 10-15 starts? Spread out mostly road trip games? He can handle 15+ games I think. He was looking like a really good backup till he feel from grace, hit the ground though.

    From the Canucks site:

Back-to-Backs: "The Canucks will play nine sets of back-to-backs this season, including three in the month of November, two in February, and one each in October, December, January, and April."
