  1. For his salary, Chiasson was a beauty this year. I hope they re-sign him. I also think Dermott has been very good and VAN won that trade. He's just going to get better. I find Myers to be the most frustrating player on the team. Is there an award for that? Such size - surely he would let bombs fly from the point and crush opponents legally every chance he got, like Schenn. Nope, Myers thinks he's Gretzky out there with the puck, trying to create offence. He's so awkward and gangly, he can't make quick turns, gets caught up ice. His passing always seems to be off too, lots of giveaways and mistakes, bad penalties. I'm sorry, but he's got to go. It's not even about his salary. Give that $6 to a big D man who can play good defense.
  2. Not sure Benning is the blame. His roster would've made the playoffs if the players played well early in the season. That same roster did very well under Bruce. It;'s the players. They didn't like Green, tuned him out and just said "f-it" until he was fired.
  3. Petey missing camp and taking half a season to get going, didn't help. Same with Hamonic. Sutter out all year. Green may have lost the room, but the players just played bad, until Bruce the Motivator showed up. I remember how disengaged Miller was early in the season, just floating out there like he didn't care, no backchecking or effort. Losses piling up. Easy to blame Green, but I think it's on the players. Amazing how they suddenly perked up once Green was gone.
  4. With the Canucks playing their last 2 home games wearing the black skate jerseys, it would be amazing if they hit the ice in EDM wearing the white skate jerseys.
  5. I agree. This makes me think that Bruce will be re-signed and they're going to go for it next year (playoff run). Now thinking: Forget about trading a bunch of key guys for draft picks and prospects. This team under Bruce is a different animal. A full season with him and who knows. Miller, he's a huge part of the engine that runs the machine. Horvat is too good at faceoffs/C, and I think he accepts a team-friendly deal. Petey will show up on time next year, ready. Boeser is a pickle. I see him in a Devils jersey next year for some reason.
  6. You've got a good point with the lower $ as well, which would allow them to spend elsewhere (wingers? D?)
  7. ouch! that term Do they go crazy and sign him for $10 x 6? That's still cheaper than 3 of TOR's players
  8. So, say they agree on $9 x 5 for Miller and $6.5 x 6 for Horvat Miller Pettersson Horvat ...down the middle. What are the wingers going to look like next season? I'm going to guess Boeser will be qualified, re-signed and traded. He's too expensive. I believe they'll keep Garland, Lockwood, Podkolzin, Chiasson, Highmore, but only two of those are Top 6. Due to cap, could the Canucks be looking at players like Chytil, Zacha or Bastian? Cheaper, younger, bigger
  9. Okay, I made my own choices 1. MVP - Demko (runner up: Miller) 2. Most Exciting Player - Garland (those crazy spin-o-ramas) (runner up: Podkolzin) 3. Best Defenceman - Hughes (runner up: Schenn) 4. Unsung Hero - Schenn (runner up: Chiasson)
  10. $8.75 x 6 years Yikes, imagine that salary tied up if Miller ever declines to a bottom 6 player. He better be good for a long time, and bring VAN a Cup.
  11. Okay, don't judge - I once watched Hockey Wives several years ago and Brown and his wife were part of the show, and Dustin was saying after winning 2 Cups with LA, that he wanted to eventually give each of his 3 kids one of his rings. 3 kids - 2 rings Let the family in-fighting begin!
  12. JR and Allvin were smart to advertise Miller early, well before the TDL, to see what other teams would offer, but also, now that the season is pretty much over, those GMs may circle back in the off season and offer a package the Canucks can't refuse. Knowing Miller could score a 100 points in a season and his competitive edge, other teams would give up a lot for that. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but we may never know the offers. I think ultimately they re-sign Miller and keep him in VAN. He's a good leader and mentor for the young guys, and provides a lot of offensive production. They want to build a culture in VAN, and Miller is the guy to lead them IMO. Horvat also has a lot of value to this team. Can they possibly re-sign both at a decent salary/term? Miller Pettersson Horvat ...down the middle looks good to me. Trade Boeser, Pearson, Dickinson and Myers.
  13. Wow, you're generous with your grades. Wish I had you as a teacher in school. Keep in the mind the Canucks are a non-playoff team. My take: Demko - 10 Miller - 9 Horvat - 9 Hughes - 9 Garland - 8 Podkolzin - 8 everybody else... Dickinson - 2
  14. 1. Demko losing his stick and blocker against the Rangers (scorpion save) 2. Bruce there it is 3. Podkolzin's 1st goal
  15. I believe they'll re-sign: Miller Horvat Boeser (and then trade) Chiasson Highmore Lockwood Dries Schenn Boudreau I also think Pearson, Dickinson and Myers could be traded. Canucks are now out of the playoffs, so I'm looking forward to the Draft and the off season. Don't care who wins the Cup, as long as it's not CGY, EDM, TOR, BOS, NYR, LA, TB or VGK if they get in. Canucks 2022/23 roster should be a bit better, and I can't wait to see what they do with a full season of Boudreau. Playoffs definitely.
  16. Miller is like a hockey card at it's highest value. We love that card, it's a good one, but every month that goes by, the value of the card decreases just slightly and the condition is going to wear soon. But maybe someone in New York offers you a 3rd year Chytil card, and the Lundkvist and Kravtsov rookie cards in exchange for the Miller card? Maybe you do it, seeing as you've already got a Horvat card of almost equal value as Miller in your collection. who knows, I'll probably change my mind again later
  17. Martin is going to pull a Binnington and win the last 3 games, getting the team into the playoffs. The Martin/Silovs tandem will get them past the 1st Round and then Demko returns! Nice thought anyway
  18. ?? - Miller - Podkolzin ?? - Pettersson - Garland Hoglander - Horvat - Lockwood Hughes - ?? Dermott - ?? Demko Lots of holes to fill, but if they can re-sign Bo and JT to reasonable contracts, they've got their top Cs down the middle - super important positions to fill. Maybe the most important. Surround them with cheaper, faster wingers. Sorry Boeser, you're gone. Same with you Pearson.
  19. Myers, Hoglander and Rathbone for Crouse? No thanks. I agree that OEL needs a better D partner and Myers should be traded. They need to clear cap, can they keep Miller and Horvat? Petey, Hughes, Podkolzin will all be getting nice raises in a few years.
  20. I was for the "trade Garland" idea before, but he provides such a spark and really gets under the skin of opponents, draws penalties. He provides a lot of offence and makes just under $5 for 3 more years. Horvat, Pearson, Dickinson, Myers - they gotta go Needs: Top Pairing RD, Top 6 LW, speed/grit in the bottom 6
  21. I agree with this (although I'm not sure I'd prefer Maurice over Boudreau). The Canucks have been trying to get back to the 'real' playoffs for 10 years. How bad is that? What they really need, IMO, is to tear it down to the core, keep some of the support players that are cheap and perform. Draft or trade for a good prospect goalie, Demko won't be here forever, and DiPietro is not an NHL goalie. Build around Pettersson, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Lockwood, Hughes, Dermott. Maybe keep Garland, Chiasson, Highmore, Lammikko, Schenn and Burroughs Try to get many picks/prospects/young players in trades
