[PGT] St. Louis Blues at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 30, 2022
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
and it would be nice to add some young players to play with Petey, Podz and Hughes, like maybe Lundkvist, Chytil, Grans, whoever. A young team that could do some damage in 5 years. But...Miller's contract won't allow them to pay the young studs. That worries me about this team. Giving big contracts to veterans. If Miller was 5 years younger, sure. -

Pettersson, Podkolzin and Hughes in their prime are going to be great. But when that happens, will Miller still be real good? Or just expensive? -
Do We Lack Toughness? Who would you give up for?
Nucker 67 replied to RolexSub's topic in Canucks Talk
Not sure it it's just toughness, but maybe size as well? Highmore, Hoglander and Garland don't strike fear into anyone. Could also include Hunt and Petan. I wouldn't mind if they targeted Zacha and Greenway in the off season. -

Yes, that's the problem right there, they don't have enough depth (and maybe the wrong players) -

Kind of funny that they're saying the team is tired. The season's not even over! Playoffs? Calgary and Colorado sure don't look tired. -

JR is running the show, the owners are no longer telling management what to do. That was a condition with JR being hired. He has full autonomy to turn this team into a contender. It's just going to take some time, a lot of time, to unravel Benning's mess. -

Canucks have no prospects. How do they get prospects? Miller, Boeser, Horvat, Garland, Myers, etc. -

Canucks should be building to compete with the future Ducks, Kings, Kraken, Coyotes, etc. in the Western Conference. Not the Avs, Knights and Flames. Those teams are contenders, they're stacked and ready. It's a joke to think the Canucks are ready to compete with those teams in a playoff series. They're not going to be any better with mostly the same roster next year. They need to decide who the core is going to be and then do a major overhaul. If they don't, teams like ANA, LA, SEA and ARI will be better, and further along, than the Canucks in a few years. -

Kind of wish they were out of it before the TDL, because then maybe they would've cashed in big on some players. This team isn't very good, and I'm now thinking giving Miller a big contract would be a mistake. Build around Petey and Hughes - start over. -
Reminds me of Horvat
-
I think previous regimes rushed prospects into the lineup, to try and make playoffs and appease the owners. I'm really glad the Canucks finally seem to have the right president of hockey ops, and a team of (4) GMs/AGMs, who want to build up the prospect pool and have young players developing together. Also, looking at the college and euro leagues. I'm glad hey brought in Rachel Doerrie to look at analytics. I believe this new management team will make smart decisions. And I'm also glad that JR and Co. have the autonomy to do the work, without the owners meddling. As for the roster, Miller seems to have given the Canucks an identity, I guess? A team that won't quit? Horvat - too quiet, boring in fact Pettersson - too quiet, shy, lanky and easy to punish Boeser - shooter who doesn't shoot enough, and fairly slow. I don't understand the shoulder shrug after every whistle Hughes - quiet, but has fun and performs, makes opponents look silly with his amazing skating Schenn - toughness, fighter, veteran leadership - a keeper even though he's fairly slow OEL - gritty and courageous, veteran leadership (even though he shouldn't get into fights) Myers - "I'm big, but don't worry, I wont fight". The penalty box is his second home. Garland - like a pinball, he just bounces off things Hoglander - Whoa little buddy, slow down and make the right play for a change Demko - Mr. Cool, best player on the team IMO the Canucks need to get bigger, faster and tougher. It's too bad Virtanen and Tryamkin never turned out.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Nucker 67 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What will be interesting is how Miller plays after the Canucks have been eliminated from the playoff race. Will he just float out there with little passion? Will he start to give up on plays again? It should give management a glimpse of what to expect from JT. -
Petey - Miller - Podkolzin ? - Horvat - ? OEL - ? Hughes - Schenn Improvements needed
-
I'm also really torn on what would be best regarding Miller. If they want to be a contender in 2-3 years, I'm not sure they can do it that quickly without Miller. Bringing in new, younger guys, it could take time (years) for them to gel with team mates - IF they gel. But on the other hand, what if they extend Miller, and then replace Boudreau? That would probably not go over well with Miller, as I think he really likes playing for Boudreau. It would be terrible if VAN handed JT a 6-8 year contract at around $8-9, and he decides to give 50%, because he doesn't get along with the new coach.

Looking forward to the busy off season, really aggressive trading, drafting well, signing a couple of solid UFAs. -

True that, but they're the exception, because of how elite they are. Very high ceilings -

Thinking about the Garland to NJ for Zacha+ trade proposal. I wouldn't mind this. -

As long as they have a Smurfy attitude and have fun! - well, everyone except for Grouchy anyway I've noticed the struggle for the smaller players, especially against teams like STL and MIN. If the Canucks are serious about playoffs, they need to get tougher. Maybe then they'll get some swagger. -
[Report] Canucks recall William Lockwood
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
In addition to not being afraid to hammer opponents, because he's in the big leagues, I really like the way Lockwood has the confidence to drive the net with the puck. I wish more of his seasoned, talented team mates would try this.
