  1. I agree, I really like Miller and he sure produces, but there are flaws with his game. Boudreau had to recently let him have it for his attitude and laziness getting off the ice in CGY. I remember last year how many times he just gave up on plays, wouldn't back check. I guess he was in pout mode? I dunno, he's always seemed frustrated since being here.
  2. If they sign Miller to a huge contract for 5+ years, how does this affect re-signing Horvat, Podkolzin and Hoglander in the coming years?
  3. All this talk of Miller making $9 million until he's in his mid-late 30s is giving me LE flashbacks. I say let the guy go - trade for a King's ransom. Good luck to him. The future of this team is Petey, Hughes, Horvat, Demko etc.
  4. I'm thinking he may accept $7-$7.5 but he'll want term - 5 years at the least Miller will be 30 when his current contract expires. Do they really want to be paying him $7.5 at 33 when he's declined, and he still has 2 years left?
  5. Just spitballing, threw some names out there, guys who could be #3 Dmen., but what Button said sort of made sense. The Canucks only have two Top 4 Dmen (OEL and Hughes). They desperately need proven (better) D to help them defend and produce. Drafting a Dman or a D prospect could take several years before they make a difference or they even make the team. Canucks need help now, their core is young and ready to take that next step.
  6. Heard Craig Button earlier today, saying if the Canucks trade Miller, they better get a #3 Dman in return. He doesn't feel a package of all picks and prospects is wise, as you never know if those players will have NHL careers. Miller is a proven, top NHL player with a good contract in his prime. Here's a list of some (possibly) #3 Dmen: BOS - (R) Carlo CAR - (L) Slavin or (R) Pesche COL - (R) Girard FLA - (L) Gudas or (R) Montour (or is he more of a 4/5?) NYR - (L) Lindgren or (R) Schneider PIT - (R) Marino STL - (R) Parayko WAS - (L) Orlov This could be more of a straight up player trade though, maybe a mid-round pick or two added by the other team, but the Canucks would get something they really need. Not sure I like this idea, as it's always nice to have the extra high pick and a prospect to look forward to. BUT, Demko would have better D in front of him. They could be a tougher team to beat with better D.
  7. Doesn't JR like to shake things up, make trades? He said he'd like to have the GM in place and to observe, then they'd make some decisions at the end of January. What is major? Miller Boeser Garland Myers
  8. IMO, build around: Horvat Pettersson Hoglander Podkolzin Hughes Demko They could get a lot back (to help this young group make a run in a year or two), by trading Miller, Garland and Boeser
  9. Alright, alright....Garland, Motte and Rathbone for Luke Hughes
  10. Listening to this guy from Daily Faceoff on Halford and Brough, and he thinks the Rangers may not want to part with Schneider or Lundqvist from their D for Miller, but suggested the Canucks might want to consider Zac Jones, a young, small LD. Who? WTF? Why would they settle for him? Screw that to NYR - Miller and Schenn to VAN - Kakko, Schneider, 1st If the Rangers want Miller and a Cup, it's going to cost them
  11. Yes, I agree, somewhat, but it's tough to predict the future. What if he's actually better next season?
  12. So, what will the D look like next season? Ekman-Larsson - Myers Hughes - Letang Smith - Poolman Juulsen Burroughs Rathbone
  13. Canucks don't need to trade Miller this season. He's still got a year left, so there isn't any pressure to move him. I think as long as playoffs are possible this season, they won't trade him. Maybe they trade Garland and Boeser, just over $10 million, for picks, prospects and players.
  14. Canucks are winning, or at least picking up points in almost every game (points in 16 of their last 20 under Boudreau), so they are slowly clawing their way into a playoff spot. I now doubt that Miller gets traded, because they don't need to this season. If things go sideways, then maybe he gets moved, but they keep picking up those points. Garland, on the other hand, I think gets moved. Maybe he's packaged with Schenn? To NJ for Severson and a prospect? (Nolan Foote?)
  15. Juulsen has impressed me, and he a RD. Could he make the roster next season? I don't see why not, he's still young (24) and he should only get better with the more NHL ice time he sees. He's also got size and some smarts.
  16. If the Canucks have a sniff of a playoff spot, Miller isn't going anywhere. Guess to be traded: Garland. Motte, Schenn
  17. It must be a very difficult decision for management, on what to do with JT Miller. Trading him would fetch a big haul, starting with an extra 1st and a good young player/prospect. That would really help the Canucks future. Selling it to a young roster that is dying to get to the playoffs would be a tough job, though. Horvat, Hughes, OEL and Garland etc. want to get in badly, and trading the team's best player, heart and soul leader, sends a message "we're going to step back and take our time here". They just recently lost core guys in Markstrom and Tanev. I think the only way it works is if the return coming back is significant, and to help the team now. Hypothetically, what if there was a mega deal trade with STL - Miller, Motte and Schenn to the Blues for Robert Thomas, Colton Parayko and 1st? Luke gets to play with his bro and try to win a Cup together. Nice story. Although, not sure about Parayko's infinity contract, but that's why STL gives up their 1st. I dunno, it's hypothetical. Or, what if they decide to keep Miller? If they re-signed him for say...$7 x 3 (he'll be 33 when his extension ends). But in order to do so, they need to unload salary. And that's only if he really wants to play in VAN. He may want a 5 year term instead with a full NTC. Difficult decisions
  18. BOS, MIN, CGY, TOR and NYR are the teams rumoured to be interested in JT Miller CGY - Mangiapane and a 1st+ NYR - Schneider and a 1st+ BOS - Carlo and a 1st+ MIN - Boldy and a 1st+ TOR - No
  19. They're all sick of missing the playoffs. Bo ios the captain, so I wouldn't expect him to say anything less. He probably feels he can still win in VAN
  20. JR wants to clear cap space. VAN might not get back what some think in some trades. I could see a somewhat underwhelming returns for Garland and Miller, for example. Possibly Garland to NJ for Ty Smith and a 2nd. Maybe Miller goes to NYR for a 1st, Nils Lundqvist and Chytil.
  21. It would be tough, a difficult decision. Hughes - Carlo pairing is intriguing though. I wonder, all of these trade proposals with Lafreniere or Kakko, a 1st and Schneider etc. if that's just dreaming. What is the realistic return for Miller? I hear it's a 1st, a prospect and a player. I'm assuming "the player" has to already have a sizable contract to make the money work for both teams.
  22. Seravalli reported a few days ago that NYR, BOS, MIN and CGY are interested in JT Miller One of the trades proposed I've seen is: to BOS - Miller, Poolman and 3rd (2022) to VAN - Carlo, Debrusk and 1st (2022) The money works out almost even Thoughts?
