[Proposal] Boeser for Laine
Nucker 67 replied to flat land fish's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I can't see Laine and Miller getting along, could create a bad room -
JR said the Canucks are not in that part of the cycle (trading 1sts for players for a playoff run). They need to get younger and stockpile picks/prospects. Is 28 year old JT Miller really the future of the Canucks? You know, in 2 years he'll be 30 and oops, declining..... What will they get for him then? A turd rounder?
-
The timing of it all is near perfect. Miller has another year left on a very good contract. He's in his prime Leadership He's a playoff type of performer: aggressive, physical, desire to win He can play C or the wing, good on faceoffs He's good on the PK and PP Team leader in goals and points What if they decide to hold off and wait until next year's TDL, and then Miller suffers an injury, or slows down, or loses his scoring touch, etc. A lot of "what ifs", but if this happens, his value drops and they might not get near as much next year. It's a gamble. Does Miller even want to play in VAN long term? Previous management may have left a bad taste in his mouth and he might want to play elsewhere. From what I've heard, he never bought a home here, so does he really plan to stay? I don't know if JR has the patience to wait and see with Miller. He knows there is a lot of work to be done, to rebuild the prospect pool, the bottom 6 and the D. Trading Miller gives them a kick start into that. They could end up with another 1st (making two 1st round picks in a strong Draft). He could also pick up a good prospect, and a player to help the team now. With Boudreau, I think the Canucks can win, even without one or two of their better players in the lineup.

Plans for Roster going forward (Discussion)
Nucker 67 replied to KKnight's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
What's going on with Sutter? Is he retiring or hoping to come back next year? His contract expires after this season. Really glad that stupid Luongo penalty is over with after this season too. -

The goal of JR and Co is to get younger and faster. The prospect pool is pretty shallow, more like a puddle. They traded away the last two year's 1st round draft picks. They will want to get more prospects developing, and have a younger, faster roster. My guess is they also want high picks in return for trades. Miller gives them the best return, by a lot. The fact Miller hasn't committed to living in Vancouver, his sights may be set on cashing in big with another team, possibly win himself a Cup. Could be some big changes: Miller for a 1st, a prospect and a player Boeser for a R-shot Dman Dickinson for a mid-round pick Schenn possibly added to the Miller or Boeser trade Team could look a lot different next season. Now, just waiting for Allvin to make his first move. -
Mathew Highmore has quietly been learning from Boudreau and Motte
Nucker 67 replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
He plays the right way. He's a s*** disturber that gets under opponents skin. I hope they keep both Highmore and Motte. JR and Co want speed and aggressiveness, and both these guys bring that. -

[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Kane, Keith, McDavid, Puljujarvi, Kassian, Nurse geez, the Oilers are turning into a bunch of jerks, but unlike Carolina, they aren't any good -

Too bad for him (and her obviously). Young and dumb and too much fame and cash. Good pick Jimbo. -
Excited for the future, for real this time. Having Green and Benning before, there was hope, but who was I kidding? Green was a new NHL coach who lost the room, Benning was a new GM who let the wrong guys walk. Whatever culture they had, he extinguished. Boudreau, Walker, Shaw and Clark - the Canucks finally have some quality NHL coaches teaching these young guys. Rutherford, Smyl, Allvin, Clancey and Castonguay assessing what the team needs and going out and doing it. I feel more confident in JR getting good deals done, more so than Benning. Benning made some mistakes, as a new GM without a President. I also think there were some GMs that refused to make deals with him. I don't see JR having that problem. Respect. The Sedins will play a bigger role, and will work seamlessly with Allvin and the A/GMs. The team feels healthier to me. They finally have a big boss again (JR), with his hand-picked GM ad A/GMs. They all have the same goal. What was Benning's goal? Make the playoffs? Low bar. JR wants a Canucks Cup ring, and I believe they'll get the team there.

That 2017 Cup ring is amazing. The way it has a 5 for the Penguin's eye. Cool -

The way Allvin and JR managed things in PIT (trades etc) won't necessarily be the same as it will be here. JR even said that the Canucks are not in that part of the cycle where they should be trading high picks. They're not a playoff team (yet), and from what I gather, they would like to rebuild a young core where they can all grow together. So, I'm thinking higher draft picks and prospects in return for possibly Boeser, Horvat and/or Miller. Maybe they only trade one of them, maybe all of them. Add those high picks/prospects to Pettersson, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Lockwood, Klimovich, Hughes, Woo and Demko. -

It's a very difficult decision. He's (Miller) their best player, has more heart than anyone on the team, a guy who wants to win so badly. But this team also needs at least one more Top 4 Dman. From what I understand, JR and Co want to get faster. This has a Boeser trade written all over it. -

JR saying there are some difficult decisions to make. To me, this means trades. Who's the first to go? I'm undecided if it'll be Boeser or Horvat. I am looking forward to the changes though, this roster still has Benning all over it. -

I'm looking forward to the TDL and Draft. Wouldn't that be amazing if the Canucks made the playoffs AND ended up with another 1st? This version of the Canucks has been pretty impressive since Boudreau's hiring. It's next man up and they're giving a good effort. Teams are not walking all over them. Even with Horvat, Miller, Demko etc out, they're still in games and picking up points. What if they traded Horvat for another 1st+? I believe this team can still make the playoffs without him. -

Canucks fans are a tough crowd. They just hired someone and right away there's people bashing the hire and spewing negativity. Give these people a chance! JR is assembling a team who plan on bringing a championship to VAN. What's there to complain about? They're making smart hires with their analytics department, they hired Castonguay which is a very positive step. Looking at PIT's drafting over the years and blaming Allvin is ridiculous. Forget who they drafted, they won Cups.
