Well, I guess the real Canucks are back, the excitement of a new coach has lost some of its shine. Playing the best teams is exposing their deficiencies. It's not a coaching problem, it's a player personnel problem. They just aren't good enough yet. Benning was desperate and made some poor decisions, and now here we are. Waiting for JR and crew to make the improvements.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Carolina Hurricanes | Jan. 15, 2022
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Changes are a comin'. This road trip was the litmus test on what happens with the Canucks. A 3-game winless streak so far on this trip makes me think playoffs is no longer realistic, and certain players will be moved. Some players just aren't doing enough and I'm looking forward to when they'll actually start making moves to improve the team. Maybe once they start wheeling and dealing and acquiring more picks, the 2022 Draft will be a great one for VAN? -
[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
^^ I like what Clancey is saying, and it sounds like they're going to define what a Vancouver Canuck is and what kind of team they want to be, and then start cleaning house. Just the tone of what he's saying, to me, is they want to get more physical and aggressive. As Boudreau also said, good teams don't lose two in a row. Maybe they also want guys who are hungry with the right mindset, like Miller, who go out every game and contribute. I have a "bad" feeling Horvat is going to be traded, and Miller will be the new captain. I also believe Boeser will be traded. They'll keep Petey (for now), because there's too much upside still. Too early to give up on him. Build from the net out. With these trades, I think the Canucks will acquire more draft picks and upgrade the D. I could also see them picking up a player like Crouse. Better days ahead -
Pete Davidson, he's a bad tattoo billboard

[Proposal] Yikes, Petey gets traded...?
Nucker 67 replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
That's a lot of salary for NYI to take on to NYI - Petey, Rathbone and Poolman to VAN - Barzal and Dobson -
Playoff type players only. Pearson's been a beast lately. Two fights recently, first guy to jump in for his team mates. He's a keeper.

I don't think Alf is crying, but Petey seems to be all out of tears. Time for him to put his big boy pants on and start earning that big paycheque. Enough excuses for this guy, it's his 4th year and he's not injured.

Has the narrative changed with JR now in command? Benning was selling playoffs to the owners and fan base "in 2 years" For some reason I thought JR said that he wants them to get younger, so they can grow as a team and be a competitive playoff team every year. But maybe that doesn't mean this year, as per Benning's plan. I believe, after JR has hired the GM (Allvin) and the A/GMs, there is going to be a bit of a housecleaning, and also more draft picks acquired for VAN this year. I'm not sure they make the playoffs, but you never know.

Who will be the first player to be traded under the new management?
Nucker 67 replied to Rabbit's topic in Canucks Talk
I think you're bang on with this. Horvat is the captain, but captains have been traded before, and Bo has a lot of value. Rutherford and his crew have no emotional attachment to any of the players, but there are some they just should not trade in the near future, like, IMO: Demko Hughes OEL Miller Podkolzin Garland good prospects and picks in Rounds 1-4 It's funny, I've heard Boudreau go on about Miller's leadership and how he carries the team, him being better than he thought he would be, etc. I haven't heard a peep about Horvat and how good of a captain he is. -
Tragic death of teen hockey player
Nucker 67 replied to komodo0921's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Tragic when the hell are they going to develop proper equipment? It's 2022 ffs. Throat, ear and wrist guards for all players!! -
Quinn - Dan Robson The Game - Ken Dryden Playing With Fire - Theo Fleury 9 Lessons I learned From My Father - Murray Howe I enjoyed all of these a lot

He was surprisingly edgy and hilarious (outside of Full House). RIP Bob

Benning traded the last two year's first round picks, plus lost Juolevi, Dahlen, Gaudette, Gadjovich, Lind and MacEwen. The prospect pool is pretty sad again. I believe Rutherford wants draft picks and young players, but he also wants to make the playoffs every year. Tough job ahead. Can't do that with a soft roster, though, so I'm thinking he may trade out the less physical, if you will. (guys that may not be built for playoffs, and who haven't been producing like they should). Pettersson Hoglander Rathbone Highmore and/or Motte They're going to have to make some really tough decisions, but it'll be what's best for the team.

[Rumour] John Klingberg requests trade
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Hoglander, Poolman, and Rathbone for Chychrun? OEL - Myers Chychrun - Hughes Hunt - Schenn I know, the Chychrun thing has been beaten to death lately, but Rutherford wants to get younger and tougher to play against. ARI still get a decent RD and two young players. The money works out pretty close. Maybe VAN adds a late pick? -
to NYR: Hoglander and Dickinson to VAN: Chytil Chytil is only 22, has size (6'3" 210), and is a C He would be a good #3C, who could develop with the young guys on the team. Hoglander is also young, but he plays a reckless mistake filled game and lacks size to do any real damage in the playoffs. Adding Dickinson gives NYR a #3C option.

[Proposal] Trade away the duds
Nucker 67 replied to Paul-walker's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Rutherford said he wants more scoring from the bottom 6, and that the team can't rely on 4-5 players to do all of the scoring. The bottom 6 did well last night, but I think changes are still coming. Pettersson Pearson Motte Lammikko Dickinson Chiasson ...are all not scoring enough. I don't think they trade Pettersson, as he's only 23, but you never know. I could see a scenario where they trade Petey for another 1st, a young player and a prospect. But he won't be traded to improve the bottom 6. Pearson and the rest though. What real good bottom 6 players are out there, that could be brought in to help? The criteria is they have to be young, strong NHL players. -

I agree. I want Petey to be the Petey of 2019/20. I believe he's just thinking too much. He knows he's making a lot now and failing is not acceptable. He's struggling, maybe in his own head. It feels like he's on the cusp of scoring, many goals. Hoping once he gets a couple, he'll get on a roll and his confidence will be back. Hmm, just in time for playoffs? -

It's good that Petey is learning a different part of the game, hopefully would make him a more rounded player. But the guy is an expensive, offensive wizard who looks like he lost his magic spells. He's making over $7 and needs to be a lot more than pretty good on the PK. An the assist here and there is nice, but so very average for an NHL Top 6 player. -

Pearson was a beast. Good game by Hogz and Podz, and that 4th line. Did Pettersson play?
