This season will be what it will be. Due to COVID, everything's changed and different. Not our year, I feel that. It's not just the poor record to start, but also the team looks unwell. But that's okay, not the end of the world. Another Top 10 Draft pick would be nice. I don't know if there will be any management or coaching changes during the season, but I think at the end of the season there will be. What I would like to see is a new GM, new coaching staff - a pro team that will get these young players to the Promiseland: Horvat Pettersson Hoglander Podkolzin Boeser MacEwen Hughes Juolevi Rathbone Demko and build a championship team, trade away the dead weight, bring in quality bottom 6 players and D who will make the difference come playoffs.

Canucks aren't losing because they lost Malhotra, they just aren't very good. I also think it's not mentioned enough the impact Markstrom and Tanev had in the room. Losing that leadership, the glue that bonded the team. For some reason Miller looks like he's pouting, instead of pulling up his boot straps and putting this team on his back like he did last year. He's arguably the Canucks best player, and if he's not giving 100%, then they're going to struggle. The D was overhauled, Schmidt is still getting used to his team mates, playing with Edler, Hamonic is a bust this year. Even if he comes back, the guy hasn't played regular NHL hockey in over a year. Hughes takes too many chances and the D suffers. Chatfield's been okay, but they need better than okay. They lost their elite goaltender, so the D has to be great. It hasn't been. Fire Baumgartner.

I think it might be lack of confidence and fear that rules Jake's game. For 6 years he's been coddled, a lot of coaches over the years trying to teach him the finer points of the game, like defense. But he might be scared to try something new, like will his way to the crease and battle until that puck goes in. Maybe he's scared to make a mistake and then hear about it from Green. He tends to play a safe game, doesn't do anything exceptional, but tries his darndest not to make a mistake. I really wish he'd just throw it all out the window and play hockey by instinct. Use your speed, use your shot, use your size.

So, what if they get their butts kicked again tonight? I appreciate Green's confidence in Jake, but telling the world that Jake will bring a lot of energy tonight (we've been waiting 6 years). I don't buy it, but I hope he proves me wrong. I'm thinking Benning and Green will get the benefit of the doubt this season due to COVID, but if the Canucks finish near the bottom, like in recent years, then one of them should be fired at the end of the season, if not both.

Ever notice the Canucks seem to help other teams set the wrong kind of records? It just feels like other teams occasionally get a record of sorts against VAN. (e.g. Toffoli scoring more against his former team than any other player, ever). Has another NHL team lost as many active players? Maki, Bourdon, Demitra, Rypien, etc. They need to bring in a witch doctor to cleanse the curse.

Nice to have a superstar or two who can put the puck in the net, but unless the team has great D, they aren't going anywhere. Hughes is a great player, but he's not great defensively. Always caught up ice, the giveaways, etc. High risk high reward type of player. Hamonic is just bad luck. Benn and Edler have been decent. Schmidt needs to be better, Chatfield is a spare part filling in for an NHL Dman IMO. Is it Baumgartner? I mean, he wasn't a very good Dman when he played, why is he coaching? Good people person?

Yep, they really need to figure out why they can't beat MTL. It's kind of ridiculous. Sometimes it's tough being a Canucks fan, but that's part of being a fan, sticking by the team even when they suck - I mean struggle. They've got to get better and win eventually, don't they? Hopefully in my lifetime.

JB: so... Marky, do you mind taking a pay cut with your next contract? We really need to re-sign Jake, and we still gotta pay Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel, Baertschi and some guy named Spooner.. JM: uh No, I was your team MVP last year and a consideration for the Vezina. I'm in my prime Jim, don't get cheap on me. JB: hmm, but Jake... JM: My name is Jacob. Goodbye. (click)

Well, no former Canucks on the Leafs, so that's a relief.
