  1. Green's not going anywhere. Apparently, he's the best coach in Canada.....so "they" say
  2. This Brandt Clarke kid sounds pretty great, very mobile, high hockey IQ, and some scouts feel he's just going to get better. He's a right-shot too. I think the Canucks have the young forwards learning the NHL game (Pettersson, Hoglander, Gaudette, etc.), and Podkolzin, Lockwood, Focht and Zlodeyev developing. So, they may be okay going with D. Other than Juolevi, Woo and Rathbone, the Canucks don't have much talent in the D prospect pool. I guess we could throw Chatfield in there, but he's already an older prospect still trying to get to the big leagues. I'm going to have to start looking at some prospects video, some good Dmen in the Top 10.
  3. VAN lost 7 to 3 - Toffoli's number. Coincidence? lol That was brutal, embarrassing D. Rafferty? Oh my. I feel bad for Myers, he wants to play physical, but every time he hits someone they collapse and he gets penalized. It's no wonder he doesn't hit everything in site. Demko is bad this year, Pettersson is bad this year. What do we expect? They kind of suck after Benning let the MVP walk..
  4. I have been a big fan of Benning since he joined the Canucks in 2014. He has made some questionable moves, but he also made some good ones. The Canucks are suffering this year, because they lost their #1 goaltender and dependable Dman. They didn't have to, but Benning made a decision that Demko is the goalie of the future. Bad move IMO. Been thinking about other bad moves that led to this point. There's a huge list of mediocre moves, which I won't list, but a few stand out: Spooner, Eriksson, Kassian for Prust, Virtanen at #6, Juolevi at #5, and now losing the team's MVP and Tanev. Forget about Stecher, I actually think he's better than Schmidt, from what I've seen so far. Maybe Stecher isn't as jolly, but he works his butt off for his team. Benning made such a huge deal about Kole Lind at the 2018 Draft, but for a high 2nd rounder, what is his ceiling? 3rd liner? Now we see Toffoli shredding the Canucks. The new Canucks killer. 2015 - #6 Virtanen (miss) 2016 - #23 Boeser (hit) 2017 - #5 Juolevi (miss) 2018 - #5 Pettersson (hit) 2019 - #7 Hughes (hit) 2020 - #10 Podkolzin (tbd) Benning has been somewhat fortunate during his tenure that the Canucks have had quite a few high picks over the years. It would've been difficult to really mess those picks up, but I think he did in 2015 and 2017. He also got lucky with Hughes, thanks to ARI taking Hayton and DET taking Zadina. I think his time is coming to an end here. Taking this big a step back after that playoff run. Disappointing start for sure.
  5. Canucks are back on schedule, injuries piling up in January
  6. This could be an even bigger game. How will they respond after a big win? I'll bet they're somewhat relieved the losing streak is over, but hopefully they keep up the 60-minute effort and get better goaltending.
  7. Quinn does look like he's having fun anyway. When Anderson slammed Hughes into the net, he got up laughing lol Canucks got the PP off that one. Glad he wasn't hurt. Pettersson looks like he's close to scoring a bunch.
  8. I think I saw one play from him in OT where he had the puck, his team mates left for the change and he dumped it in and skated off. WTF? Jake! OT is all about puck possession!
  9. Strange that I trust Chatfield more than Hamonic. Jalen played really well, and I guess Hamonic still needs time to get up to speed. Cover Toffoli = win game. Easy. Boeser showing Petey how it's done
  10. ...with Washington. What is VAN's record against MTL, when they had great goaltending in Markstrom? Not so good. Canucks are going to have to play out of their minds to win tonight. It was a rough start to the season, losing to losers like that, but they started their rusty season on the road, which wasn't easy. They're home now, and should have a lot of motivation to play their best. A win tonight would shut a lot of people up, including myself lol
  11. Should be a good effort from the Canucks tonight. They have to give full effort otherwise they'll be 1-4, with two more against MTL. The Canadiens D though, is a nasty piece of business, so Pettersson and Hoglander will need to be careful along the boards in the O-zone. They can't take any time to shoot either, just keep firing shots and create some traffic.
  12. On the PP, I wish Pettersson would just shoot when he gets a pass in the slot, or better yet, do something different and drive the net. It's so predictable he intends to fire a one-timer - but he'll only do this if he receives the perfect pass from a team mate. Otherwise, he just passes it back and they try and again. Boring. There needs to be more attack. I really like Gaudette's 1st period last game, he had 4-5 scoring chances. Hoglander is a ball of energy and he's trying his best. Enough passive play. When that puck drops it's war against the opponent, not play time. Yes, I'm looking at you Hughes.
  13. Be great to get Luke Hughes, and due to the Canucks bad start, I've started looking at the 2021 prospects. Used to be a time we could always rely on OTT for a win, but even they got much better. VAN might still do okay, there's around 50 games left, never know, but without world class goaltending and the superstar showing up every game... come join your bro Luke
  14. Kind of the way things go with the Canucks. Surprised Tanev never scored last game. I'm not expecting the Canucks to win any of the 3 games against MTL, but I've been fooled by them before and they have come back with a much stronger effort after a terrible game. Hope they can do that tonight and break this losing streak.
  15. C - Aatu Raty would be an interesting pick, but there are some good, mobile D in the Top 10. Imagine a future D pairing of: Hughes - Hughes Looks like Ds Owen Power and Brandt Clarke could be the favourites to go #1 and #2
  16. I know they always say BPA, but positionally, what do the Canucks need most? Centres Wingers D Goalies It looks like this is a very strong D draft, possibly the first 4-5 picks being Dmen.
  17. I like it, and would even change it up Hoglander - Miller - Pettersson
  18. In his 2 games, Demko's GAA is 4.65 and a SV% under 0.900 He's been bad so far
  19. It doesn't matter how good the players are, if the goaltending is questionable, the team won't win. Benning had a decision to make - keep Demko as the goalie of the future or move on from him and keep the team MVP - Markstrom. He made a choice and here we are.
  20. Looks like the Canucks missed their very narrow window (last season when they had Marky) Maybe there will be another window in later years when Demko elevates his game. The team is a bit handcuffed with bad contracts (Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, Sutter, Luongo's penalty), nd I figure once those are off the books, then they will be in a better position to contend. And here I thought they'd be hoisting the Cup in 2022 lol
  21. Great start to the game, really good 1st period, then it all came crashing down. That's concerning only being 4 games in. Are they tired? They look it.
  22. I'm sure this isn't what Schmidt was hoping for when he got traded to VAN. Seeing them play such inspired hockey in the bubble, he may have thought he got traded to the next up and coming contender. All smiles and jokey jokey, good times during camp. He doesn't seem too jovial these days. Playing on a very good Capitals team with Ovie, then being traded and going straight to the Cup finals in Vegas' first year,. then another really successful season there, and then another. He may be experiencing losing on a mediocre team for the first time. I also wonder about Benning. Did he make a major blunder by not re-signing Markstrom?
