^^ This. Markstrom stole a lot of games for the Canucks last year. We can focus on how great Miller, Hughes and Pettersson were last year, but the team was giving up 40+ shots a game. That doesn't seem to have changed. The problem isn't coaching, or even goaltending. It's that poor D, not nearly nasty or dependable enough. Canucks have MTL coming in, with what could be the best, meanest D in the league. I expect they'll lose all 3 against MTL, they're just better than VAN. So, that would bring the Canucks record to 1-6. Ouch.

Maybe Jake is satisfied with his role. Do just enough to stay in the lineup, make as few mistakes as possible, collect the cheque. I don't see a hungry player willing to sacrifice for his team, who's fighting for a top 6 spot. Although, there's been a few players that seem uninspired so far. Maybe Miller gets them going in this game, I'm hoping for a much better effort. Hamonic needs to get up to speed and start laying out some punishing hits. Myers needs to use his size and get some heavy shots on net.

If the Canucks win tonight and Pettersson scores, then that Miller trade looks even more genius. Bo was always next in line for the C, but Miller deserves it. At the least, he should have an A. My main concern for this team is goaltending. Does Green lack confidence in Demko? I thought he was going to be the new starter. Holtby has done alright, but I don't feel confident with him in net. His reaction time seems a bit slow, out of position, he leaves a lot of net open. Being 4 inches shorter than Marky doesn't help.

my $0.02 You barely knew the person and haven't heard from them in 7-8 months. Kind of nervy for someone to ask for money straight up front like that. Unfortunately there are some that prey on the kindness of others, especially during a pandemic. What does his Facebook page say? Okay, his Mom passed away and he and his sister haven't eaten in 3 days? I'm guessing she did all of the cooking? (bad joke) You sound like a nice person nux, good on you for caring for others. I would be careful here though.

It's actually been 282 games for Jake, and still waiting...

I just don't see the compete. Is Miller the only one capable of dragging this team into the fight? The Canucks were out-scored, out-shot, out-hit, out-special teamed etc. Is Pettersson already playing hurt or what else is going on? Poor Hoglander must feel he's all of the offence. Only guy who will sacrifice himself by driving the net and fighting for pucks along the boards. Maybe Miller should Zoom the team before the game to give an intense pep talk Okay, maybe it'll take time for Hamonic and Schmidt to get comfortable, but they don't have time for that. Every game is an important divisional game. If they lose too many early, it'll be very difficult to gain ground later. I'm not sure what the answer is, but Benning let the team MVP goalie walk, so Demko better be great. He should be the starter, and Jim needs to live with that. Holtby's best days are behind him, he should be the backup.

It's only 3 games in this 56-game season, but I see a team that's not as good in net this year and that still struggle to score goals. Seeing as there are only 4 Canadian teams to make the playoffs, and they can't seem to beat WPG or MTL, I have doubts they'll be a playoff team this year, and so it makes the 2021 Draft more interesting for me. VAN might actually get a pretty high pick if they keep playing the way they are.

[Signing] Ducks sign Ben Hutton

He's goofy, and he's in Anaheim hmm, sounds like a good fit good luck Ben -
I thought before that the new Canadian division would be to the Canucks advantage, and in a sense the travel is a lot easier for them, but the teams are tough. EDM showed that McDavid can take over a game in an instant. CGY has better goaltending, MTL and TOR will be tough challenges, Canucks can't win against WPG, and even OTT will be better this year. Pettersson is VAN's best player and he'll need to be.

So, was it a penalty shot? I imagine Oiler fans we whining throughout the night and day about it, like that would've made a difference. I'm not entirely clear on the rule, but I would think as long as the breakaway player is on his skates and manages some sort of shot, it's just a penalty? And then if he's hauled down on a breakaway, then it's a penalty shot? McDavid draws a ton of penalties because of his speed. Defenders can't keep up so they have to reach and hook, try to slow him down somehow. This is part of his arsenal, and I noticed when the ref didn't make a call in yesterday's game, Connie got upset, waving his arms and yapping at the ref. Like he had been robbed. I'd love to see Hoglander hound the F out of him all game. Oh the frustration would be sweet. I think Hogz can keep up, and he's got the skill to knock #97 off the puck, maybe even steal it.

I just meant that Jake seemed out of place, whenever he got the puck, it took him a while to make a decision what to do with it. The good players don't really have to think too much about it, it's instinct. And then when he did make a play, it wasn't the best choice. But, I'll definitely cut him some slack, it was only Game 1, and saying that, he did improve, almost like a different player in the 3rd. He was quick on pucks and plays. Maybe watching Hoglander come into camp and then Game 1 will motivate him to stay in the Top 6? He knows Podkolzin is on the way in the spring as well.

Guy is getting a lot of flack here for calling the game last night. He seems to just be breaking into the big leagues and even though he made some errors (e.g. calling Roussel, Dominik Roussel), I thought he was okay. A lot of pressure to deliver a perfect play-by-play your first time. Good for him, although, I'm looking forward to the two Johns being back. Great result last night. I thought Jake played awful for the first two periods, but really turned things around in the third. He started making better plays, faster. Holtby was good, but then he let in a bad goal. and then he was good again. It'll take time to get used to a new team. Looking forward to Demko stealing the starter position. Hoglander is like a ball of energy out there. Fast and fearless. It looks like Bo and Pears are having fun on that line. Pettersson didn't look like himself, but that's okay, only Game 1. Boeser looks great this year. Glad Schmidt is okay after getting the puck in the neck. I expect EDM to come out with a better effort, they won't want to drop 2 in a row to start the season. VAN can still win it though.

same old, year after year, the media count out the Canucks and yet for pretty much the past 15 years we've been Canada's best team. They have a complex in TOR. Similar to Trump. They're unable to accept how crappy they are.
